Update 6-12-15 (TLDR at the bottom)
ATF was kind enough to give everyone 1 month of ATF Pro for free a couple of weeks ago. They have extended the offer for a free month with code "LETS-GO-2018" that can be used multiple times until October.
I think this is the perfect time to sign up if you haven't already and go back through and rate the recipes you've made previously with a free account. Its the least you can do and it helps everyone out a lot.
So many recipes there are unrated and its a shame as I know many get mixed. I've been part of the problem since I never had a paid sub but I've been going through and doing 10-20 reviews each day which adds up to 300-600 reviews if you do that each day for the one month trial and they really don't take that long.
Just a quick comment and rating selection takes a couple minutes each. At 10-20 a day you're looking at well under an hour a day(more like 10-30 minutes) and together we could potentially add hundreds and hundreds of reviews to ATF. If you are mixing others recipes reviewing them is the least you can do. It just takes a few seconds of your time and helps everyone out.
While you are there why not go through your flavor stash and make some notes. One big thing ELR has over ATF is the plethora of notes on single flavors. Many are repetitive, especially FA stuff thanks to HIC, but its better than nothing and they are almost non-existent on ATF.
Oh, and if you subbed out a bunch of ingredients please don't rate the recipe since you didn't actually make it. Instead just pop into the discussion section and tell us what you subbed and how it turned out. That is a lot of help too since not everyone has every flavor.
#Now onto the prizes
Myself, Apexified, and queuetue are offering prizes to the top two people who submit the most reviews and flavor notes within a 30 day period. First place will receive $50 from Apexified and myself(mostly Apexified) and 1 year of ATF Pro for free courtesy of queuetue. Second place will receive a BNIB Vaporesso Orca Solo from me
#The Rules are simple:
-
Sign up for an ATF Pro account if you haven't already with code LETS-GO-2018 (I think you may also need to create a free account first if you don't have one)
-
From there you have to ways of earning points
-
Go through, rate, and leave meaningful reviews(it doesn't have to be huge review but more than just, "tastes great") on recipes that you have tried. (Please don't review recipes you haven't made or you have significantly altered. If you have altered the recipes leave the notes in the discussion section and do not rate it please since it skews the rating)
-
Go through and add flavor notes for individual flavors pages.
- Send me a PM or make a top level comment showing the number of reviews and flavor notes you've left. (note: reviews you've already left do not count.) It would be helpful if you took screenshots of each review/flavor note and then sent them all to me around the deadline instead of one at a time but either way will work
4)Contest will end July 15th and the winners will be announced by July 18th
TLDR:
-
Use code LETS-GO-2018 to get a free month of ATF Pro
-
Rate and review flavors you have tried and leave notes on individual flavor pages. Previous reviews do not count
-
Send me screenshots showing each one and the two people with the most ratings/notes by July 15 will win prizes.
This isn't really about the prizes. Its just my hope they will act as an incentive. Its about getting some flavor notes and more ratings on recipes on ATF. There are tons of great recipes on ATF that get mixed all the time but have zero reviews or ratings and a lot of great mixes and mixers are going unnoticed because of it so please do not take this opportunity to churn out a bunch of reviews on stuff you haven't tried just to win a prize.
Good idea, worthy of a chance, so here you go, people. Use the code LETS-GO-2018 if you think the advice above is good.
This code is good for 1 free month and you can enter it until October (even use it multiple times), so give it a swing!
I could never figure out where to put the code, but I decided to opt for a year subscription. I figured I wanted to commit to a full year of diy exclusively. And I appreciate that the site is there, is pleasant on the eyes and has already some great content on it that I’ve used. And everyone is right, I don’t like the lack of reviews either but I trust that only paying members can post recipes.
Why do you think I give out free codes? It's a honeypot for softies like you. :)
Thanks for the support.
Thanks, this is great. If I bookmark recipes and then the code expires, what happens to the bookmarks? Will I still be able to see them?
If you bookmark them (browser function) then they will be there forever.
If you "star" them then they will stay in your favorites even after your subscription expires. Or, if they don't, yell at me because that's a bug. :)
I do wish there were an apple mobile app for atf as I’m not on my laptop often. But I will leave some reviews on the ones I have mixed since i love reading reviews. I just subscribed and am looking forward to contributing. And maybe some recipe development (one day, sigh).
The site works perfectly fine on mobile.
>I will leave some reviews on the ones I have mixed since i love reading reviews. I just subscribed and am looking forward to contributing.
Awesome, thank you.
>And maybe some recipe development (one day, sigh).
You'll get there. The more you mix the more you'll figure out ratios and what works best with what and before you know it you'll be developing tons of your own recipes.
I also want to point out. If you're a newer-ish mixer, and you're looking to pick up an ATF account, do yourself a favor and start logging your flavor inventory in it NOW. This way when you want to track your inventory, you're not logging in thousands of bottles all at different fill-levels. It's one of the best aspects of ATF that's rarely used.
Lol. Pay to review... Reeallly?
The pay wall is to stop anyone and everyone from leaving reviews and just those dedicated enough to pay. However it's not stopped some bad reviewers such as those that say "mmm yum yum 5star!" with little depth to attract mixers that might be looking to buy the ingredients that want to try it out.
Another problem I find with the system is that it makes it really hard for mixers to have their recipes tried and tested as the majority of people wanting to try something new will just rely on those which have already made a name for themselves as trusted, even though some of the stuff they are releasing isn't that good at all they are still getting a lot of good feedback just because of the name they've made for themselves from previous releases.
It's really a double edged sword for possibly the best recipe site out there that's reaching a point of over saturation, even if it's a niche and small audience with a constantly evolving catalog of flavours, there's only so much you can do to keep people interested.
> even though some of the stuff they are releasing isn't that good at all they are still getting a lot of good feedback just because of the name they've made for themselves from previous releases.
I would assume you know it's not good because you tried it. Did you leave a critical review?
I'm not sure what the issue is here.
I don't have a single recipe posted on ATF publicly so my recipes can't be reviewed and none of the people who have their recipes reviewed gain anything from it.
I am also not affiliated with ATF in any way there just aren't many reviews on most recipes, if any at all, and next to no flavor notes. Having these things helps everyone.
How would I know if I got a month free? Everything still looks the same. Is there added functionality to paying a subscription? I still get those “upgrade” links appearing.
I guess I should have included that from: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/8m6kn6/faq_friday_best_flavors/
/u/queuetue gave everyone a month of ATF for free. I thought the offer ran the whole month but I'm still going to leave this up. Also going to offer a free brand new pod device as a second prize.
>I realized you need to be a pro member to favorite recipes so I decided to ask /u/queuetue (5 minutes ago) if he would do a Memorial Day free month of ATF and he said yes. So if you’re not already a member and you want to try it out for free you can use the coupon FAQ-MD-2018 for a free month of ATF. The code will work until Tuesday morning and is good for the first 100 people who use it.
Since you were the first person to point out my mistake about the free month offer if you want to participate PM me your details and I'll buy a month for you. Its only 2.99/month. It does offer some added features most importantly in the case the ability to review and to add flavor notes to flavorings. You can see all about the pro membership here: https://alltheflavors.com/go_pro
Sorry I can't do this for everyone. That is my bad. I forget that not everyone reads every thread posted so not everyone signed up for the free month.
No worries, I’m still dipping my toes with the ATF site but I’ll definitely go pro if it fits my needs. Right now ELR is sufficient which is why I’m wondering how beneficial going pro with ATF is. If you could enlighten me with that “killer feature” that is specific to ATF then it’ll make my decision to support the site further easier. I like the site design and the ease of use with managing flavors though, flavor database is also way cleaner but less flexible than ELR from my experience as a non-pro.
Thanks for the offer, I don’t want to take advantage of your misstep as the “pro” upgrade is pretty affordable imho.
For me, it's the fact that the recipes are newer, and less likely to be bad. They are much less likely to be created for old devices with absurd amounts of flavouring by today's standards.
I am also a sucker for design, and I must admit I don't use ELR mainly because I hate the look of it.
The owner came in with a new code (LETS-GO-2018) so now you can give it a try. It gives you a month free and can be used each month until October so you can try it out and see how you like it.
Both ELR and ATF have their advantages IMO. ELR has more recipes but they are a lot of the same recipes renamed or just single flavor recipes. ATF has less but they are of a higher quality since you need a pro account to post recipes publicly and most of the "big mixers" are on ATF. ATF's flavor notes section is mostly dead, which is one of the things I am trying to improve with this post, but while ELR has one and it can sometimes be useful you have to wade through a lot of nonsense and repeats especially on FA flavorings since people just copy HIC's notes over and over again.
that's very cool of you. I use ATF for the what can I make feature but I don't like using the free version. I just adapt what I find there onto ELR. I wanted to really use the batch feature only at ATF to track inventory but I ended up just creating a spreadsheet for that. it's an extra step but it works for what I'm trying to do
I dig your idea. But to add more incentive let’s make it $50 and a year of ATF for the winner. I’ll cover the difference.
What's atf
All The Flavors. It’s a great recipe site with reviews, flavor inventory, comments, message boards, etc. It is much better than ELR
