My first attempt at printed labels
submitted over 7 years ago by cantgrowneckbeardAMABerry Fanatic

Here’s the finished product.

I’ve been using Avery 6113 all purpose labels for a while now and just handwriting on them with pen or sharpie, but I had some time today and figured I’d try to design a label. I used pages for Mac (or Word for you pc types). I had to create a custom page size with the exact measurements of a sheet of labels, and then made a simple 4 cell table to fill in the info. Getting my cheap ink printer to work was the only difficult part. I ended up stacking the label sheets on top of regular printer paper and selecting a 100mm x 150mm page size in the printer. Depending on your printer, you may or may not be able to make this happen.

Pro tip: apply labels after you pour juice into bottles, or you risk your handiwork getting destroyed by a spill. I learned this the hard way.

This is what happens when you tell reddit your real name. XD

I thought about censoring it, but the name is common enough that I’m not worried.

Yeah it rubs off too fast, acrylic too. Oil based will stick the longest.

Cover it with sticky tape after writing on it. I got this from the last labelling thread that popped up on this sub.

Not too bad at all. I've been thinking about printing my own labels. But I'd prefer a standalone label maker. My preference is due to not wanting to mess around with the printer. Also because I mix upstairs, the printer is downstairs and I'm not walking back and forth all night haha.

Haha yeah I usually mix in the kitchen, but I took the big batch and empty bottles into the office for the same reason.

Amy always had the best vape juice back in WWII.

Thanks! I wanted it to look like an ol’ timey stamp, without needing to invest in a custom stamp.

Avery has a standalone program that makes this easy as pie and you can also do it on their website. You set up to only print a few labels on a sheet and go back and use the rest of the sheet later.

There's no need to suffer through setting this up using word processing software.

Awesome, I’ll have to check that out. I did a quick google for Avery label templates but didn’t find anything, so I decided to make my own. I tend to do things the hard way 🤷🏼‍♂️

Avery Design & Print

There's also a downloadable version at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, the program doesn't support my label size as they are not standard printer size. Next time I buy labels I'll have to cross reference with their program before purchasing.

I was going to say the same thing. You tell the program what label you're using and it automatically does the setup. It also has different fonts and graphics and pictures you can use

Schmikens!! For longevity wrap the bottle in clear contact after label. Bastards will never come off!

1 points

by cantgrowneckbeardAMAover 7 years agoBerry Fanatic

I reuse bottles, so I scrub the labels and residue off after each batch.

Sweet. Contact will be no good then.

Not bad! I don't know how I feel about the Courier/Courier New style though, have you played with other font faces at all? They look super professional though.

I have played with other fonts. I have a huge hard on for everything courier, so I’ll probably stick with this.
