FLV Cheesecake ... WTF?
submitted over 7 years ago by HankNice

Oh man, Flavorah really impresses me for the most part, so I was really looking forward to getting their Cheesecake flavour. I whipped up a small 1.5% test batch and waited 4 days. Tried it in my Hadaly and Le Supersonic clones. I don't know what to say. What is this supposed to be?

So yeah, not good. Anyone have any luck with this one? Longer steeping times, particular combinations with other cheesecakes perhaps?

Ps. After watching the Noted episode on cheesecake and seeing how Folkart had Yes, We Cheesecake as his top pick, I also bought that one, and yeah, couldn't agree more. Miles ahead of Flavorah. Also better than New York Cheesecake, IMO.

If you like INW YWCheesecake you probably prefer the eastern European style cheesecake, which is rather unlike NYCheesecake. The problem is there are a number of different styles and variations on cheesecake and everyone has their own opinion on how cheesecake should taste.

Yup, your second sentence is what it's all about. Back to the drawing board, I guess.

Yeah. Describe your favorite cheesecake IRL and maybe people might be able to steer you to the most similar flavoring.

I actually had to google European cheesecake to see if I even had it before, and yes, I have, but only a few times in my life. It was definitely more cakey than a cheesecake, I think it was almost over-baked and yeah, quite dense. That's definitely not what I'm after.

Maybe I got a bad batch of NYCC. It tasted more like a cream to me. No generic cheesecake filling. No crust either. I steeped for 2 weeks, I think. The thing that impressed me about Inawera's was the definite cheesey tang and a slight graham crust. It seemed more well-rounded to me. I think I'll have to give NYCC another go and hope for the best.

Edit: I also have 1% of FLV Cheesecake mixed up again. I'll leave it for 2 weeks and see what happens.

What are the European cheesecakes like? I love the NY cheesecake - both baked and as a flavor. Curious about how other styles might taste.

The worst cheesecake I ever had was from a German bakery. It was more like cake than cream cheese. Bad, flavorless white/yellow cake. Bland as hell. But... some people like shit like that.

That doesn't sound too good at all. But hey, to each their own.

Lol I had a similar experience only the cheese cake was warm. It was pretty nasty.

Dad's german, he made it once... can confirm. Tasted like chalk. Literally made me want to gag but I'm used to NY Cheesecake.

Yup, it was a good review. It's the one that got me interested. Oh, well...

Just goes to show how taste is subjective. I need to pick me up some inw yes we cheesecake to check out. I love cheesecake irl but have been disappointed with most of the cheesecake flavors. None have that rich savory aspect I think of with cheesecake. Flv I think gets the closest.

Yeah, I'm stumped.

ID10-T, Cheeba and yourself all liked it, except for Folkart. I figured, three against one, you know?

Anyway, I'm going to have another crack at it and let it steep longer. Keep up the good work!

I always wait at least a week for cheesecakes - but I've never tried FLV's version.

You could be right. I just remember reading fresh03's notes about FLV's Cheesecake tasting just fine after 3 to 4 days.

Can you describe what you don't like about it? Is it too sour or spoiled milk-like? That's the issue I have with certain Cheesecake flavors or dairy flavors in general, especially if I mix them too high.

Yeah, I definitely can. My issue with it was it tasted nothing like cheesecake at all. It was strange. Just like an odd cream of some sort. It was definitely on the darker side, like what was mentioned on that Noted episode, and yeah, like two of the guys said, not really something you'd describe as a cheesecake.

Edit: Oh, and sorry, if you wanted something more specific, no cheese tang that you'd associate with a cheesecake or any hint of a crust. Like if you had someone blind vape it and guess what it is, they definitely wouldn't say cheesecake. That kind of vibe. Maybe I got a bad batch. Who knows?

Did u go over the flavor of the week cheesecake posts on here ? That, the flavor reviews and ‘ mix life’ are my go to’s for research and feedback....😬 Uugh, ‘noted’ fkn ‘ mix life’ whatever one of those...the one Concrete is on and Dave is in the chat lately more than on the show. Oh and Adam from Fla is on there, that one..😩😂😂 You know what? I’m mistaken again, 😂.. but both shows great! Cheesecake one I’m thinking is I think the one u mentioned. Fml

No one company gets them all perfect, but like u said it’s a little disappointing when maybe we forget and set the bar so high. But, I luvluvluv Flavorah for more flavors than I want to 😩😂

I see so many recipes with cap NYCC and Everytime it ruins the flavor for me. It's very off putting to me that it doesn't even resemble cheesecake or any part except maybe the sour cream? I'm hesitant to buy anymore cheesecakes at this point
