Weekly 'What are you vaping?' Thread - Week of May 28, 2018
submitted over 7 years ago by c5b4c91772c729fc7d0a

This thread is for you to share what you are vaping lately, be it your own or another mixers recipe. Maybe you happened to stumble upon your new ADV in the May Recipe Thread? Or did someone recommend your first mix to you in the Suggest a recipe for my flavors Thread?

Share what you liked or didn't like too much, but most importantly, please make sure to properly link to the recipe and to the mixer if they're on reddit.

If you need some inspiration, some websites keep track of your mixes and batches: e-Liquid Recipes and All The Flavors.

Also make sure to checkout last week's thread for inspiration or to follow up on a mix that turned out even better after a week of steeping!

Happy Vaping!

Lots of things!

Right now, this second, I'm vaping Crumb's Custard by /u/LonesomeRhodesTN

Ho-lay Mo-lay! This rocks my socks! Have you ever eaten Cookie Butter Ice Cream. It tastes like that, only with the frozen ice cream replaced with a warm, buttery vanilla custard. The spice notes are bit on the high side for Cookie Butter Ice Cream but you could make the case that it's accurate for a warm custard because the warmth would boost those. Whatever, it tastes amazing. I'm only trying it for the first time this morning; I'll leave a proper review later.

In a hour or two it will be too warm out for that, and I'll switch to a tank full of my ice cold blueberry cream recipe that'll I'll soon get around to cleaning up the notes for and sharing, now that I think it's finished. Here is a preview for those interested in ice cold blueberry creams. Yes, that says 19% flavor. I am not sorry.

In the pod system that I've been using at the office, it's STILL Charlie Noble's Pistachio RY4 Salt 25mg. I can't get anything done on the pod recipe development front as long as this is in my possession. I just can't seem to bring myself to fill it with anything else. Opened up a fresh pod, tried to muster some willpower, and yet failed to resist the temptation to put that in there. I hate /u/prettymatthew for how much I love this stuff. Well, maybe "love" is a strong word. It's hard to really love anything out of a Sourin Air, just not my preferred way of vaping. But it sure beats the hell out of other low-watt high-nic salt pod thing juices I've tried.

This week I've tried a bunch of recipes with cantaloupe flavors in them and I think I learned something from each of them.

1-2-3 Jackalope. I made this. It's not a real recipe. It's meant to be the cantaloupe part of a cantaloupe recipe that needs something else to complete it. After trying half a dozen of them, I learned that FLV Cantaloupe is, at least to me, the ONLY cantaloupe flavor to add to a combination of CAP Cantaloupe and TFA Jackfruit. Single flavor testing a bunch of them, I think FLV Cantaloupe and CAP Cantaloupe are the only two anyone really NEEDS. One for the real deal, authentic cantaloupe flavor, one for the fleshy melony base note it can give all kinds of fruit mixtures.

Mango Melon Chew by the JuiceFairy, sorry I don't know her reddit username or if she even has one. I learned that the rindy underripe top note in FA Melon Cantaloupe CAN be masked with other top notes and a steep, while still harnessing that sweet melon ring candy flavor underneath.

Mango Sorbet by /u/enyawreklaw. I learned that the slight piney peel note that ruins the otherwise yummy ripe VT Shisha Mango for me as a single flavor can be covered up with bright citrus flavors and that 5% CAP Lemon Lime mixed with other bold flavors makes one hell of a great sorbet. If some coolant works in there without throwing things out of whack, it will be wonderful. Might have to play around with that later. But, it's refreshing even without it and will be used to fill a tank as soon as one needs filling with something new.

HoneyMelon BubbleGum by Jbird. I forget his reddit username. jdrocker77 or something like that, I think. I learned that FLV Watermelon and FLV Bubblegum is a god-tier pairing.

Gumby by /u/LimeDrive. You might think it's strange sounding, but Koolada and INW Bubble Gum (yc) is another one of those super pairings. There's other stuff in here too, but I think using those two together is the takeaway.

Candew Milk by RudeRudi (again no reddit username that I'm aware of) I learned that not even 5% FW Cantaloupe a match for 4% TFA Honeydew. Please chill with 4% Honeydew, people. It's just too much. A little of that stuff goes a really long way.

Strawbmelontopia by Burgster. I learned that 3% TFA Papaya can beat the hell out of a lot of other stuff, and that the waxy thing people complain about with TFA Strawberry, which I previously thought I was immune to, can be brought to my attention in certain combinations.

Beer Goggles by the inimitable /u/philosaphucker . I learned that my palate's deep love for Mr. Saphucker's unique creations does have a limit, and this is it. I nominated Grack Juice for recipe of the year. I mixed up the 11-ingredient cactus pear custard and gushed over it. I loved the Cactus Cookie and even Hop Spit, his cactus tobacco, as well as quite a few others. Eventually I will try them all. But the combination of TFA Toasted Marshmallow and FLV Cantaloupe is not one I ever want to go near my facehole again.

Melon Head by Mr. Good Vape (one-shot from Liquid Barn's Tastemaker Collection). I guess I learned that you don't have to make great juice to get someone to sell your one-shot? This is bad. This is not "eh, just not for me" bad. This is objectively bad. This is "I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul" bad. I'm not sure I want to even continue living in a world where people are paying money for this. It's that bad.

Edit: fixed link.

You sold me on /u/jdrocker77's HoneyMelon, I mixed it up right after Noted and you weren't exaggerating about how good it is.

I'm almost never exaggerating. I'm sure it often sounds like I'm exaggerating about how bad things are, when really I'm just struggling to find a relatable way of describing how much they disgust me. But about how good things are? Never.

I've tried about two handfuls of all-FLV recipes and Honeymelon Bubble Gum is the first I've tried where I didn't think it could be improved by adding something from another brand or replacing one of the FLV things with another brand's version of that thing. It should be part of their marketing somehow. "This is what you can do with Flavorah flavors." /u/flavorah

Been all about the tobacco recipes after my last order I’m flipping between:

Native god which is fantastic in a way I still can’t describe and I’m 60ml deep already.

abuela which I’m still confused by. Sometimes it tastes vanilla-y sometimes mango-y sometimes just plain weird and sometimes just plain tobacco. I dont get it.

sweet leaf which is just smooth and nicely balanced. I love it.

brigade 2506 This is next in the vape list when I get home. I tasted it a couple of times and it was good but I haven’t had the chance to really hit it yet

gold I made this with the newer version of gold ducat but I figured what the hell lemme see how it comes out. I figure I’ll get a chance to see what a sweet tobacco flavor can be like. Also I had everything to make it so why not.

And lastly, single flavor testing black and dark for pipe and red burley. It seems to take me a long while to get to know the flavors. Like about 20ml worth. So I make 10ml batches about every two weeks rather than three at the same time of different concentrations and then vape them alongside recipes with them in it to compare with how they interact with others. I almost taste them better by subtraction rather than alone. Weird.

My rotation this week:

Malibu by Meliante - I'm glad that I didn't end up tossing it (see my comment from last week), because after a week, the Koolada has faded a little and it's now a very nice strawberry coconut mix. The different strawberries really work well once the Koolada wears off, so I'd give this at least a week of steep next time I'm mixing it.

Green Tea Kit Kat by /u/exclusivegirl Had to mix this up again after some time. I can taste only a hint of green tea in it, but it has been a revelation for me about what TFA White Chocolate and CAP Vanilla Whipped Cream can do.

Cardinal by /u/feartx - Had it steeping for a while and treated myself to this and a nice stout beer just yesterday.

Peaches and Cream by /u/Vurve Mixed it up after /u/Cepsita recommended it in last weeks thread. While I enjoy it, I think I'm going to stick to the holy FA Peach duet and the recipe I posted there as it's a little heavier on the cream.

2 points

by ID10-Tover 7 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

I'm going to have to mix some more Cardinal. I don't really want to, it'll be a setback as far all of the other things I want to mix and mixed things I want to test and work on. But it'll be easier to get up in the morning knowing Cardinal is waiting for me.

I'm really impressed with the flv tobaccos. A tiny drop completely turns the recipe away from a ry4.

Red Burley by itself is a really interesting flavor; I added it to chocolaty recipes a couple of times and it added some nice accent to them.

Oh I also did cardinal but with a sub Tpa ry4 double. I like it but I wish I could try the recipe as it’s written. Seems pretty good to me though!

I’ve been enjoying Peaches and Cream myself lately, or trying to anyway. The throat hit on this one is killing me. Does it mellow out more with a long steep? It’s been about two weeks so far and, while it’s better than it was, it’s still really harsh.

Here's what I'm rockin:

Key Lime N Piel B.1.2a.b 3-week steep

MFG|Flavor|%
:-:|:-:|:-: TPA|Cheesecake Graham Crust|1% LA|Cream Cheese Icing|1.5% FA|Florida Key Lime|1.5% FW|Graham Cracker|0.33% FA|Meringue|1.5% CAP|New York Cheesecake v1|2% TPA|Whipped Cream|1.5%

This one I'm thinking of finally making public on ATF, it's hitting all the right spots for me and as much as I want to flavor test 5 more key lime flavors FA's Florida Key Lime does the trick (Been at this for a few months now). Anything higher, you get that syrupy note that u/ConcreteRiver talks about, go any lower and the pie filling base takes over.

The amalgamation of creams you see in here are what I've really been tweaking the most to try and get a dense and creamy key lime pie, with that whipped/meringue type finish, and this combination does a pretty damn good job. You could argue that it's more of a key lime cheesecake but having had a few key lime pie's in my day, the density and richness that CAP NY Cheesecake/LA Cream Cheese icing brings to the table make it absolutely perfect for what I want out of a Key Lime Pie. Combined with TPA Whipped Cream and FA Meringue, it makes for a symphony of pie filling on your tongue.

The crust was kind of a tough one too, I don't know why I hate doing flavors in 1/3's % but it always erks me, and gets to me even more when it actually works the way I need it to for the profile. The combination of TFA Cheesecake Craham Crust and FW Graham cracker help give that granular graham cracker crust with just a hint of cinnamon that I have really been enjoying.

I'd say let it sit for at least 2 weeks, but if you're patient the longer you wait the better it gets. When I do get around to releasing it, and you happened to have mixed it, I'd appreciate any feedback. this one I've put my heart into.

I'm a Peach Fiend 5.2a 2-week steep

MFG|Flavor|%
:-:|:-:|:-: FLV|Cream|1% DFS|Holy Vanilla|1.5% CAP|Juicy Peach|4% FLV|Peach|2% TFA|Vanilla Bean Ice Cream|3% CAP|Vanilla Custard v1|3%

This one is probably going on ATF soon too. Have you ever eaten one of these? Imagine that but it's peach flavored instead of strawberry. I know peaches and cream have been done to death, but idk I like peach and I like to play with creams so fuck it.

This has a nice creaminess to it with FLV Cream/CAP Custard. CAP Custard for the buttery creaminess and FLV Cream to help smooth it out a little. Surprisingly TFA VBIC serves another purpose than being a cream; I'm specifically using it for the slightly peppery/spice note that it has. I know it's weird, but when combined with DFS Holy Vanilla it actually helps give that granular sweet candy taste that you get from hard cream candies like this and Worther's original. CAP Juicy Peach kind of helps with this too has it is more of a candied peach to me, with FLV Peach backing it up with a little more of an authentic peach flavor.

Wanderlust Remix by McFly

This is definitely a 5-star recipe in my book. I'll be dropping a review today for it. It's light enough that you could definitely enjoy this throughout the spring and summer, but the graham cracker clear, meringue, and sugar cookie give the bakery notes that I enjoy in my day-to-day vaping. I would highly recommend this one.

Thanks for mixing it! I am fortunate enough to have a close friend IRL that also does DIY that I can bounce recipes off of, but it really feels great when I get to hear feedback from people on here/ATF. I'm sure you'll love it even more when the cheesecake steeps out in a couple of weeks.

I have an e puffer I bought myself for Valentine's Day, the 2018 model. I like to puff on it when I am kicking back in the evening. Because it is more of a "special occasion" device, I only vape super special recipes in it. Right now I am puffing on some Autumn in the Shire by /u/highwind.

When I let a friend try it recently, his face lit up and he said, "That's delightful!" And it is. I am not a huge fan of apple vapes but this stuff is wonderful. I have no idea why this wasn't a top contender for recipe of the year last year. I didn't discover it until this year or I would have nominated it myself. Somehow this recipe is flying under the radar and only has one review. It's a raving review, but still only one. I will be leaving a second one soon. It's on my todo list! I haven't tried it in my standard subohm set up and I am probably missing some of the nuance, but even so it is one of the best recipes I have ever mixed.

I can't remember how I stumbled across it. I may have been looking at ATF recipes that use INW Black for Pipe because I had just purchased some. Mixer's Club got me hooked on tobacco vapes which I previously claimed I didn't like. I know I was rifling around on ATF and the name and description caught my attention because I am a total Tolkien nerd. I now kind of want to do a series and make a mix for the other 3 seasons in the shire! When I get a little more tobacco experience under my belt I may take on that challenge. I have not attempted to craft any of my own tobacco recipes yet.

I have a total of 11 tanks I rotate between, 2 for the e puffer and 9 subohm. I am a variety is the spice of life kind of girl. Rather than detail the other 10 flavors I am rotating between I will let Autumn in the Shire have the spot light this week. Next week I will talk about the super special recipe I have in my other e puffer tank and give some props to one of the subohm recipes I have been enjoying recently.

Peace :-)

Edit: Ok, so highwind's Reddit handle is not highwind. Perhaps /u/ID10-T or /u/Kitu5 can help me identify the correct one. Dude seriously deserves some credit for this stellar recipe.

Just want to send some love to /u/hashslingingslashur for publishing Zappole. It’s amazing, tastes just like an apple fritter from my local doughnut shop.

I followed the recipe exactly, with the exception of substituting FA Stark instead of FA Fuji (don’t have that one yet.)

Excellent! I just mixed some up for a friend of mine. She wanted an apple pie juice and I didn't have all the ingredients for botboy's, so I settled for an apple fritter type. I wanted a non cinnamon one so Cinapple Fritter was out. I took a chance on the Zappole because it was slashur's recipe and I trust that it will be good. Usually I don't mix for friends unless I have already tried the recipe but decided to make an exception. Glad to hear it's good. I am giving it to her this weekend!

Hope they like it, it’s become one of my favorites immediately. I’m a big fan of apple recipes though, so this was a no brainer for me.

BTW the finished Zappole has just a hint of cinnamon from FA Apple Pie, not a prominent flavor though. I just mixed up a 120ml of it with one drop of FLV Rich Cinnamon to give it a little boost.

If your friend is looking for more apple-y goodness I can also recommend Apple Pie Allah ‘The Second Coming’ by KRUCIAL. I always have some of this mixed up (I’m an apple fiend.)

I have had a lot of random bottles of juice left over from last summer, most of which I can't even remember making and mostly fruit mixes. As it's now getting hot here I have a craving for menthol and just a added menthol to all these random bottles. Most of them actually taste pretty damn good now and I'm not going to have to make up anything new for the next few months.

On holidays at the moment and have been vaping ID10-T's Lucky's Charms Recipe. It's a sugary cereal mallow treat and is balanced nicely between marshmallow ( I used the 1% FLV Whipped Cream option) and cereal. I didn't have FW Cake Batter Dip so used 0.75% CAP Cake Batter, which worked great.

Cap Cereal 27 really does bring out the oatish flavour in Lucky Leprechaun without going all corn flakey. I like the way Creamy Milky Undertones is used to tame CAP Cereal 27 too. Neat mixing trick. It's not an ADV, more for bingeing on when you want to indulge. In that respect it's definitely the Motley Crue of cereal vapes for me.

Last night I whipped up a batch of IPA Smoke by /u/matthewkocanda. I couldn't find FLV sweet cigarette so I tried to replace that with FLV commercial cigarette on my first batch. It was good but very heavy on the tobacco (which is my own fault for replacing a flavor), so I'm definitely going to have to place an order for the correct one next time.

I've been trying to make a mojito juice lately after trying Skinny Vape's My Mojito. It tasted exactly like sipping on a fresh mojito and catching the sugar in the straw, which I have no idea how to replicate. On my first try I used a simple recipe I found on here somewhere with 1% TPA spearmint and 12% TPA key lime. It ended up tasting like toothpaste. On my second attempt I lowered the amount of spearmint to .5%, used 10% of key lime, and added in a little coconut at 2.5%. It's not bad but definitely isn't mojito, more like eating a coconut chip right after I brushed my teeth.

After being bummed about something I try not really working, whether it's because I had to replace a flavor or because my recipe is just straight bad, I always have Mustard Milk to fall back on for how consistently good it is.

Kids and wife are gone this weekend so I'll be doing a shitload of mixing. I just got a massive flavour package in. At work today I’ve got the trusty Brigade which has been making me feel really nostalgic about last summer for some reason. Nothing super awesome even happened last summer, but it’s been taking me back.

Also brought along some of my Desert Rose. It was my submission to Mixers Club last month. It’s not bad for a floral tobacco I suppose, but it’s still a floral tobacco so probably won’t be getting another mix. Still not completely giving up on florals, but my violet RY4 is on the back burner for a while.

At home in the mixing lab (my basement) I have been messing around lately with a lime cigarette like a Camel Twista Lime that I didn’t even know was a thing until /u/ID10-T suggested I try to make it. Kind of wanted to try to make it work with things available at BCF, but it was really needing a tobacco absolute, and then I really wanted to try INW Arabesque in it. Turned out really good that way, but now I’m at the point where I always end up where you’d need to order from 3 different flavor houses to get all the necessary ingredients. Gag me with a spoon.

Also been messing around with some fruit stuff lately. Got banana cinnamon roll, peach pie and cream, and spiced apple bourbon all in the testing phases.

Other than that I’m hoping to find some time tonight and tomorrow to do some testing on the Mixers Club samples since I’ll be out of town this weekend for a damn wedding.

My take on an RY4. I call it The Wild West. 1% FA Caramel, 1% SM Perique, 2% SM Dark Fire, 2% SM Nicaraguan Seco, 2% SM Honduran Ligero, 2% SM A+ Blend, .5% TFA Vanilla Custard. I made a 60ML of it 3 weeks ago and it is just amazing. A+ Blend (leather), Dark Fire (ash), and Perique (dark tobacco) really shine. NS and HL are weak sub 3-4%, but add a few tobacco profiles into the mix that are hidden prior to a steep.

Along with a few other leftover mixes I had, and a bottle of Evaperated's Potion of Scholars... mostly this:
#Elderflower Lime Cider

MFG | Flavor | % ----:|:-------------------------|-------:
FA | Lime Tahity CP | .5%
FA | Lime Tahity D | .5%
FA | Fuji | 3%
TFA | Koolada | 3%
TFA | Champagne | 2% INW | Elderflower | .75%
CRR | WS-23 | .25%

I've never tried INW Elderflower, but if it's anything like FLV's, I think those flavors are meant to be together (Lime, Fuji, Champagne, Elderflower, Coolant).

But.

3% Koolada?

For real?

You could remember that coolant is always a function of your tolerance. Stop vaping uncooled flavors for a week, and 3% koolada isn't that much. And there's a interaction of the off taste into the flavors that works.

I know exactly what you mean by that “interaction with the off taste into the flavors that works.” And by the tolerance thing. 1% WS 23 is nowhere near as chilly to me as it as it used to be. But 3% Koolada? I have some concerns about your tolerance for cold. It’s like saying 30 beers is not that many because you’re a hardcore alcoholic. You gotta put a warning label on this sort of thing in case of noobs.

I never tried FLV Elderflower. INW's is perfect for me, so I didn't see a point in overpaying. And I was trying to mimic a drink from RL. A really good drink.

My CBD Crunch Berries recipe at 15mg/ml all day, and 50mg/ml when I'm out. Freaking can't get enough of it. I just woke up after passing out with my vape on my night stand and the first thing I smelled was that delicious flavor. Whenever I need to switch it up I pull out the Strawberry Shortcake recipe I found on E-liquid-recipes as well as the Strawnana Custard which is so highly regarded. Finally almost a month of steeping on that bottle, as if I wasn't sucking it down the first week lmao

Do you think crunch berries could be used without the cbd at a lower amount of nic? Or is it purely a cbd/high nic kind of juice?

Totally. It's great with 0mg of anything too

Glitter: by Dr. Crimmy absolutely love this stuff! There's this peachy , pineapple, mango flavor to it that is just the best I've ever tried! Actually I love any of the Vapes I've bought from there. I've not found one I haven't ordered again.

I think you meant to reply to a different post. I'm guessing you want the recipe for Dan's Nuts... which I just searched ATF for, and no recipe by that name (or variations thereof) seems to exist, so no luck.

Right now I'm vaping a real simple mix of.....

  • TFA pear 4%
  • TFA kiwi double 2%
  • TFA koolada 0.5%

Super simple but surprisingly super tasty and refreshing

I've been vaping Cap vanilla custard v1 at 5% with 4% TPA vanilla swirl, and 1% TPA marshmellow. Simple custard, but I can't get enough of it.

This week I tried my very own RY4 Strawberry that I mixed three weeks ago and I gotta say, it is delicious. The recipe:
TFA RY4 Double - 1%
TFA Strawberry (Ripe) - 5%
TFA Sweet Cream - 2%
CAP Sweet Strawberry - 3.5%
20% Menthol (20% crystals/80% PG) - 2% (this one is optional)

I'm making my way through a Strawberry Eton Mess ( http://tjek.nu/r/mGwp ) i've been working on recently. It is vapeable after 24hrs steep and tastes really nice .. But after 2 weeks steeping it is another level. I'm using it as my ADV but i do have a dessert/sweet-tooth when it comes to vape juice

My other juice that i've been playing around with is a straight up shake & vape though - Strawberry Jolly Rancher ( http://tjek.nu/r/kt1z ). Very simple to make and tastes just like the boiled sweet/hard candy that everyone loves

Let me know what you think if you decide to make it :)
