E liquid color
submitted over 7 years ago by Bghisly

So, I've started a month ago to DIY my own juices and all of them shows a dark color. I have mixed different batches, with and without nicotine and fast steeped, and others I let them in a dark place, others I shaked them, but anyone of them has that brownish color showed in every DIY I see. Important to say they are simple flavors, like 30 ml of vainilla, 30 ml of virginia Blend, and so on. I prefer to mix by drops in my tank. Another question that comes to my mind is, being one ingredient recipes, I have to wait 1 month to use them? Or can I "shake and vape"?

You definitely should not be mixing by drops, and definitely not in your tank.

No no, I meant once the eliquid done. So, I mix pg/vg nicotine and flavor, steep for a week or two and then take half a tank of tobacco and a couple of drops of vainilla but already steeped, not in raw LOL

A lot of flavours come with their own colours too! You can't imagine a custard not being yellow can you? My bottle of Fa custard is hangover-shit-brown before I make juice with it.

Grape flavours notoriously go purple. One of my first experiments with grape soda, lime, spearmint went orange within 20 minutes. I never vaped it. Never understood why it went that colour either!

The key thing to remember is avoid UV light, and avoid heat. They will altar your flavour, and denature your nicotine. Don't speed steep. Your juice won't last.

Best thing to do is make a shake and vape and a steeper. Vape the steeper, then make another shake and vape and another steeper. And stagger your mixes that way, so you never run out and you give your mixes time. I've finally put my custard to steep for 2 months and it was amazing, didn't vape any of it until yesterday!

He he the problem is they don't last for too long once mixed. Husband search label, and fill his tfv8 with what he wants at that moment...

Then find yourself some cubby holes he doesn't know about... and get him off that tfv8! Get him something that doesn't romp through juice and produces actual flavour!

Yep, that's another thing... In my pen 22 (clone) the flavors are yummy but in his... Well is like ash ash and more ash. (And no, isn't a burnt coil)

I'd leave it a year but I definitely don't have the patience and wherewithal to make enough juice to stay away XD

I made a bunch of big batch custards (500mL-1L) at the beginning of Spring. I'm vaping all fruity shit til it starts getting cold again. When the temp drops below 60 degrees, I'm breaking out the custards.

The amber color could be from flavoring, or from the nic. You can shake and vape some stuff, while others need to steep. Nicotine oxidation will turn almost any juice Amber. More nicotine=darker color.

The color of your juice depends on a lot of things. Nicotine concentration, oxidation of the nicotine, exposure to light, and the flavorings you use. I have a fruit mix that will turn a light green as it ages, and I have another mix that turns orange. Not a big deal.

As far as "steeping" (really aging) goes, this is all down to personal preference. Some mixes are good to go as a S&V, but will get better with age. Some are unvapable without a good steep time, and some are best as a S&V but are still good after sitting. Some light floral notes will disappear quickly, like Honeysuckle for example, so you will want to make small batches of mixes that use ingredients like this as you need them instead of mixing big and letting them sit.

I'm also still new to DIY. just look at these two batches of french toast just days apart. the one on the right was mixed this morning, the other one was mixed a couple days ago. this is what's in it:

Cinnamon Danish Swirl (CAP) 4%

Vanilla Swirl (TPA) 4%

Waffle (Belgian) (TPA) 10%

the color can change over time and I try to ignore this. the vape is superior and that's all that matters regardless of discoloration

Wow. What a change!! Mine doesn't change at all. In the flavor yes, but not in the color. I will think it's the brand.

There's no substitute for time mate. Fast steeping doesn't work, and can potentially harm the mix. Keep your mixes in a cool dark place. If kept this way they last for a year or more. It's natural for mixes to turn a darker colour as they age. Don't panic there's nothing wrong with them, and in fact could be tastier.

I don't fast steep always, I meant I tried every method there. The only downside for me, is I have a dark box under my lizard terrarium,so it is somewhat tepid, nothing very hard.

From what I can tell, vape juice ages like wine. The older it is, the stronger its flavor gets. It will change color as well. That's no biggie.

You can absolutely shake and vape. I just did that today with a peach blend.

From what I've read, it varies by flavor. Some flavors dissipate very quickly, or become overwhelmed by other flavors as they age.

From many years of DIY - This is spot on.

Fair enough. Though the most complex recipe I have is just half strawberry, half banana.

Fuits and candies? Shake and vape

custards, tobaccos, coffee, chocolate? Let that shit age a week or two.

No need? It works just fine as it would sit. Sure flavor gets stronger as it ages, but you have to start somewhere. As far as I know, there are no negative effects of just shake and vaping. It's a very subjective thing.

yep, but as she/he said custard flavor NEED to age, I remember my first batch of vanilla that I tried to vape right away...hmm very faint flavor, so I divided it in little 10 ml bottles and forgot about it...And damn! a month later it's really ADV.
