Okay, I’ve searched the sub (using the app) and scoured the two most recent “General Questions” threads and haven’t seen this asked or answered. If someone has already discussed this question and I missed it, I really apologize.
For those of you mixing for pod devices, what total flavor percentage are you using?
I recently bought a Mi Pod to use at my new job, and I’ve been struggling with how to adjust my recipes. I’m using 50/50 PG/VG, and I’ve increased nic percentage to compensate for the lack of smoke/vape breaks I’ll have.
I realize a Mi Pod isn’t going to give me the same depth of flavor as a subohm tank, but how high should I raise my flavor percentage to compensate for the pod’s shortcomings? My most recent mix was a simplified version of my ADV at 18% flavor, but I’m still not getting a whole lot. I mix the same recipe at 14% flavor for my subohm. I don’t want to take the flavor percentage so high that it wrecks the pod coil, but I’m hoping to improve flavor if possible.
Anyone have any recommendations?

I tried that, and saw a lot of discussions about nic percentage and PG/VG ratio but not overall flavor percentage. I’ll try searching again though - it’s possible I missed something. Thank you.
There is no 'overall flavor percentage' because there is no such thing in mixing, no matter what your gear is.
My favorite example here is this:
.75% FA Cocoa
.005% TFA Cinnamon Spice
(The cinnamon is probably still gonna overpower the cocoa, but you should notice it a bit.)
You could use the same mix (but maybe double the Cocoa) in a pod and it should work.
However, I could probably put together a recipe that was over 20% flavoring that was no more potent.
TL;DR - 'total flavor percentage' depends on the individual flavors. But as a rule, increase every flavor in a recipe 50-100% to use in a pod system. It's a starting point, obviously, you still need to test.
Since these devices produce less vapor, you need more nic and flavoring (individual, not overall) to get a satisfying vape, but how much depends on the device, the flavors used and personal taste. There's no rule of thumb.
Many flavors do not come out properly in low power devices and complex recipes aren't made any justice at all. Simple 1-3 ingredient recipes using fairly potent concentrates has given me the best results. Something like 4% CAP VBIC with 4% INW Shisha Strawberry is going to be good. Single flavor 4% FLV Tangerine or 2% INW Eucalyptus With Mint or 4% FA Forest Fruit are all safe bets. But none of these will knock your socks off, the only goal here is to get some tasty flavor to go with your nicotine dose, not to get some amazing flavor experience.

I was just mixing up a recipe off ATF, first time using it, it seems off to me and not matching up to the notes I've read on it so if anyone has used this please tell me, does yours smells like roses? Im wondering if ecigexpress mixed mine up or something cuz I'm not getting any fruit notes lol just roses. (actually reminds me exactly like lush's perfume imogen rose) haha

I have the following problem: I currently have about 13 flavors and I'm mixing after recipes found on e-liquid-recipes. Problem is, I mostly have a 50/50 base and 50/50 nic shots (20mg). Almost every Liquid I'm making is tasting bad. I wouldn't say like crap, but not anywhere where I would say: that is good stuff.
For Example: If I adapt this recipe: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/313068? the red bar gets waaaay bigger. I have the same problem with recipes on atf. Can someone help me, push me in the right direction on what I'm doing wrong? :/
Taste bad, or rape your throat? Because from what you're describing, your mixes will be maybe 40% VG, compared to the more normal 80% VG. VG has a natural sweetness, PG is maybe slightly bitter, but also is irritating to the throat; depending on how sensitive you are to it (and how masochistic you are... some crave ~~'throat hit'~~ pain) you could really not enjoy that.
Ok, let's describe it that way: When I wake up and take the first hit before going to work, it tastes mostly really good, but after two, three hits it gets bad. I wouldn't say, that it hurts my throat, yes it is a bit rough but not really hard. What could I do against that?
Are you sure you have put the details in correctly for what you have? This is what I get when adapting it to 3mg with 18mg nic shots. The red part will get bigger because the original has 100mg nic so you would need a lot more if you use 20mg.
I'm pretty sure, that I've done everything correct. This is what I get for 50ml. But this Liquid tastes like shit...sadly, everything I mix by myself does so and I allready switched the base and the nic to see if it was one of them.
That looks right. Have you tried without nic? Steep maybe, I don't like most fruit recipes I've tried literally after shake and vape, 24 hours can make a difference. Other than that I'm not sure, perhaps someone more experienced has some idea. Or try single flavour tests, maybe it's one in particular that's not nice.
I've seen some people mix their juices in graduated cylinders or beaker glasses, what's the advantage of it vs mixing in bottles (and measuring with syringes or by weight)? also how do you clean them so that the next batch doesn't have any leftover taste (like when using menthol or strong flavors)?
Measuring in graduated cylinders is imprecise... beyond the judgment call on how the level matches, particularly due to looking usually from some angle, the real issue is that we're dealing with viscous liquids that like to stick. Unless you want to wait a couple hours for each GC to pour completely, you'll be leaving some amount of a mix in them. And then you need to clean them, which is doubly annoying. (Unless you always wanted to grow up to be Alice from The Brady Bunch.) It's so much easier to mix into the bottle you plan to use, right on a scale.
I'd like to get into tobacco flavors at this point in my mixing journey. They're something I left out initially because of their complexity and my lack of knowledge in their nuances and pairings. I feel I may be ready to start messing around with the tobacco flavors now and I definitely want to start mixing some of the recipes I've found with them.
What I'm most lost on is the seemingly endless variety of tobacco flavors from each flavor house. I know what tobacco tastes like but I wouldn't be able to tell you if it's more a Connecticut Shade or a Virginia Blend. I mostly have enjoyed Prarie/Snowdrift by Bigglesworth and Vanilla Tobacco by Red House as my favorite tobacco juices.
Basically I'm just looking for some advice on where to start with the tobaccos. I found a couple recipes on ATF that look good so I'll order the flavors I need for them. What flavors would be considered essential for a tobacco diy mixer? It seems FLV Red Burley is on of those essentials but I'd love to hear some more. Or just any information to shed light on this new flavor group I'm interested in getting into. Thanks for any help and advice!

I've got to come up with some better search terms on ATF as well. Searching for recipes with tobacco in the name didn't turn up nearly as many as I would have liked.

FLV Red Burley is definitely a staple.
And you'll also want:

INW Black for Pipe (actually, most of the 'for Pipe' line, but if you just get one...)
INW Tobacco Symphony
INW Tobacco Absolut (all of 'em)
FLV Kentucky
FLV Connecticut Shade
If all you get is those, you'll be able to mix and match and come up with nice mixes. And probably mix a handful of recipes.
Don't worry, you'll end up ordering more soon enough. I think I'm around 30 or so different tobaccos now... and it isn't even really what I consider my main focus, although I've been mixing more of them lately than anything else, experimenting.
Oh, and listen to CBV. He's the go-to guy on tobacco. If he doesn't know it, it either isn't worth knowing, or is just too obscure for him to have gotten around to.

I reckon I’m about to the point of having to get around to them. I’m pretty sure I have every tobacco that INW has to offer, all the FLV, 90% of the HS (100% of the ones that are easy to find), all 4 Flavor Revolution, and no real interest in exploring the rest of the FA and TFA offerings. I’ve tried a couple Euro Flavors, Delosi, Molin Berry, Flavor Phoenix, and the JF tobaccos, but nothing really stood out that made me want to try more. You test any of the SA yet? Might have to give those a shot next.
I've got that list saved for my next order. Didn't realize how much more expensive FLV is though, wow. Those flavors seem to be more of the non-aromatic, right? I've been trying to make sense of which direction I should start in these flavors. My collection of fruit and bakeries is pretty decent so it may be better to go with the straight tobacco and add my own extra profiles later.
I think getting into tobacco flavors is really where I need to step up my SFT and notes taking game.
How can I be sure I'm buying a food dye free concentrate? I recently purchased Watermelon-LA from ecigexpress and it's nasty how much food dye is in it. BullCity reviews claim their version being sold is colorless, but neither website is trying to tell you themselves.

neither company should be altering the manufacturers flavors, Im sure the manufacturer wouldn't be happy to hear if someone was cuz it looks bad for them. Only thing I can think of is to either ask them directly or contact manufacturer and ask them. Most sites have MSDS avail for PDF download (and they have to provide them to you if you ask), I keep one for every flavor I have in stock. def suggested if you're mixing, required if you're selling IMO
I have a recipe that calls for sweetness by Flavorah. The problem is I can't find it in stock. What is an acceptable substation and will the % change in the recipe.

It might even be better with a different sweetener. Notes on FLV Sweetness say it requires a longish steep for it to come out and that it has a slight bitter taste associated with Stevia. I say give it a go with whatever your preferred sweetener is at the same percentage. FLV is more concentrated than other brands, but I wouldn’t take your sub too high.
A question regarding selling recipes
Hey guys,a local Growshop wants to expand their product range by selling cbd liquids and they asked me to develop some recipes for them.I am no business man whatsoever and so i have no idea what would be fair to charge for one recipe and how many % of profit share i am able to ask for.

Track your time developing recipes, supplies used in unsuccessful tests. Put a dollar value on that, that's the price outright. But don't sell the recipe. Just sell them a one shot flavor concentrate. Charge double the cost of ingredients, plus some percentage of your development costs. Say 40% on each batch of flavoring. So on the third order of a given flavor, you make extra profit on your development. They'll still be making insane profits, but you'll have a steady revenue stream.

Depends on how much you trust them... The most effective approach is selling a premixed flavor concentrate. It isn't hard to mix, say, 120ml of straight flavoring. That's probably enough for then to make a liter or so from. It depends on the capacity of your scale how much you could make at a time...and your available bottles.
If you're getting profit share, you will then own a percentage of business equity. It sounds like you want to just sell them your juice which the business would look at it as cogs (cost of goods sold) specifically direct materials. I think you first need to figure out how you want to structure yourself with this company. Regarding how much to charge them that's on you. What do you rate your quality of work at? Gross margins can range from 20-80% but typically around 50-60.
I can't find my IGO-W. Is there a comparable cheap, easy way to test flavors MtL single coil at 1.5ish? Primary interest would be ease of rewicking, I guess.

What kind of warnings/issues are you specifically referring to?
This site shows warnings for the IGO-W as well. That being said, it seems like a somewhat standard "cover their ass" type of warning as far as RDAs are concerned... Or is there another issue you're concerned about?
That seems like a fairly standard "this is a specialist item and you might blow up" sort of disclaimer.
Avid, Empire, and High Desert all have some form of "these are known to destroy batteries and are not covered by any sort of warranty so may the odds be ever in your favor" thing going on. Sometimes there are exclamation points.
So I have a feeling that they at least like to catch fire. I'm all ears if there's a brand or vendor you personally use, though; they really do seem handy.

Just pay attention to which one you order. The one I got is basically unusable. Not sure if it's a clone "feature" or not but my top cap is two pieces. A inner barrel around the airflow and a sleeve that fits over for the actual top cap/drip tip. Fair enough except the tolerances are so loose that when you try to take the top off and drip, the barrel pops off and the you end up with juicy fingers trying to reassemble the rda.
Wasnt exactly my idea of fun imagining how easy it would have been to accidentally short a battery when I was using it on my mech. Oh well, $5 clone. Straight to the bin.
Has anyone ever done a teardown on a Sigelei Fuchai Glo? Mine is acting erratically and I want to open it up, as I suspect juice has leaked inside and is shorting something.
This is best posted to r/OpenPV or ECR instead. There’s a good chance if something is wrong in that regard, the damage is already done. Juice on the board is never a good thing, but Sigelei is also not known for their quality mods.

Alright so i used to mix my own juice, i got bottles and flavors and VG/PG and nicotine and all the good amenities to just make tasty juice for cheaper than the B&Ms. But that was over a year and a half ago so now im not sure where to order the stuff from. I cant remember who i ordered from originally but it was all decent stuff. Just wondering who the best online vendors are for the states (I live in Texas btw) and which ingredients i should buy from which ones, and also what the laws even are for this stuff because i havent stayed in the loop much at all. Any help would be much appreciated, feel free to PM or comment back. I used to have some solid recipes saved but i lost them, otherwise i would post those as a thanks
I've had no issues with Bull City Flavors and Nicotine River. Generally I order my flavors from the two mentioned, nicotine from NicRiver and bottles/supplies from Amazon.
also, anyone have general coupon codes for chefs? theres a list of pretty much all the main ones on ELR but not one for them...never ordered from them before but they are the only place I can find a bunch of flavors Ive been wanted to try, thanks!

The best way I have found to search chef's is to go to the manufacturer section I need (let's say FA) click the "show all" link at the top so I have all of their flavours on one page, then CTRL+F for the flavour I am looking for.
Their search bar is beyond broken, as in totally useless. It's a pain as you have to do your searches by brand, but it works.
I like chef's because they are the only place that comes close to being a one stop shop for me, but they really need to fix their website.
The whole site is absolutely terrible, adding things to your cart takes forever and sometimes doesn't work at all. Trying to order a bunch of stuff is just painful. There are a few other places that have quite a good stock of flavours, rainbowvapes, vapable, nomnomz. I try to use rainbowvapes, it has free shipping on orders over £10 and you get a freebie with every order. I think they don't currently stock LA but they told me they would look in to it at some point soon.
Ya, I have an order of about 28 items that include holy vanilla (couldn't find it anywhere else in NA) + a bunch of vapetrain Ive been wanting to try and the icing on the cake was their tarte au citron which is chefs choice. Id been working on a mr meringue clone for a while now and I've got is SO close but every lemon I try is just been missing something, then someone told me they had success us that so, well see

A certain recipe calls for 1.8% flavorah. I cant find the flavorah flavor on bullcity, so im using a FA substitute instead. Since FA are generally more potent, what % would you recommend i dial it back to?
What is the specific flavor? I would not generalize by saying FA is more potent than FLV, it really depends on the flavor.
Between ATF and ELR FA Melon Cantaloupe is used, on average, around 2% while FLV Cantaloupe is around 1%.
So in this case and many others, FA isn't more potent. I wouldn't recommend dialing it back, even if one person claimed it was "too overpowering"

It depends on your likes honestly. Hard to say. ATF Top 100 is a good place to start. ELR has one similar to this as well. Go down the list, grab the CAP flavors. Since those are the top 100 used, you can very likely use them if you decide to mix others' recipes.

I picked up a 10ml bottle of Acetyl Pyrazine, I believe it’s 10%? By TPA. It’s a pretty vibrant orange, and has what I can only describe as crystals stuck to the bottom of it. Should I use this, or get a new one from elsewhere?

Right, my pie crust is pretty dark as well. I’m not concerned so much on the color, as I am the crystals in the AP. Shaking vigorously seems to reduce them a little, but there’s still a crust in there.

Well, you probably get black pepper from VBIC. I've heard of getting a bit of lemon from some cream, might be one of the ones you use. Not sure where the butter in that mix is for sure... As for the mackerel, maybe you get everything else you would get in the cooked fish, and just sort of assumed?
Of course, chemical interactions between flavor volatiles that create new ones is always a possibility. As is the possibility that certain volatiles are used in multiple flavorings there (impossible to know for certain, tho) and the mix brings the concentration of one or more of them high enough to change how it's interpreted, just like the lavender/feces(IIRC) threshold.
Puffing on some Lime Longing right now and luckily I do not get pepper from VBIC. The flavoring came in the mail just last week so I was nervous about the pepperiness.
I used FE banana in some fruit mixture and I thought it was pretty good. Haven't single flavor tested the TPA Ripe Banana either but I thought it was just a Runts flavor and assumed I'd get a banana milk that's workable. Did not expect this fishy disaster. It's what I get for not single flavor testing :(
It may be something in the Ripe Banana interacting with the cream. I rank Ripe Banana up there with TFA Honey and TFA Cheesecake. It’s a foul monster of a flavor.
As bad as TFA Cat Piss and TFA Foot Cheese? How could they fuck up one of the simplest flavors ever so badly?
Question on stepping. Everything I read says to shake vigorously and let it sit for a number of days. Do you have to shake everyday to keep everything blended during its steep process and become one or just shake that one time and letting it rest untouched is enough?
What are your favorite single flavor concentrate recipies?
10% CAP Vanilla Custard V1 steeped for a month or more. It just keeps getting better, and if you get sick of it you can add fruit, caramel, tobacco, whatever you want.
Versatile and delicious, if you're into vanilla/cream types (sorry /u/juthinc).

All of these will add a cooling sensation. Menthol will add a mint flavor, koolada used high enough has other off tastes. Every person reacts differently, and you will build up a tolerance over time, so it is best to alternate cooled and not cooled juices...

I'm thinking you sound incredibly sensitive to PG. Either that, or you're trying to vape more than 3mg on a subohm.... which you could do with nic salts, but with freebase you're looking at throat rape. But it sounds like you've got the nicotine level accurate, so I'm gonna say either it's the PG (it irritates everyone's throat, but some people like that, and some are more sensitive to it) or your flavors. TFA gummy is a registered throat offender IIRC.
I vape 6mg premium juice in a sub ohm tank so I dont think it's the amount of nic like you said. Seems like out of the 25 flavours I have, no one of the sweet/fruity ones have been too satisfying on the throat. I'm so discouraged :( I've sunk almost 100 bucks into it, wasted half of it trying to make juices, and still cant make one that doesnt hurt EXCEPT one that had 4% cap van bean ice cream and 6% cap sweet strawberry. But the van bean ive cream was so overpowering I couldn't even taste the strawberry.

I received Solub Arome Black Tea as a bonus in a recent order but I can't find much information about it. The reason I'm hesitant is that I received a TPA Slim Mint Cookie which I read has some oils in it and shouldn't be vaped, so I suspect this is another one they can't get rid of.
Has anyone tried it, is it safe?
I just got a shipment in from solubarome. The main reason you can't find anything about them is that they're a french company. French = obscure for the majority of the world.
But I'll check to see if one of the flavors I ordered was the Black Tea. It's possible. (The order was held hostage in customs so long, I forget what was in it.)
I'd be really interested if you do have it or find any more info about it. I have seen some of their other flavours mentioned here and there but the black tea seems either new or not used often.

I can find no relevant mention of it through some quick searches. Which tells me one of two things: either it’s not safe to vape or it’s a brand new flavor that has not yet been released. I’m leaning towards the latter. Where did you order from? I would try emailing them to ask about it.
I believe it's more a matter of UK shops slowly adding SA flavors to their inventory. My french is very rusty, so finding info on SA flavors can be annoying... since mostly the info is on french vaper forums. What info there is, that is.
However... from checking the SA website, Black Tea was designed as a flavor for vaping.
What are the flavors exactly? Are they the same used in food/candy industry?
any flavours, whether made intently for vaping or food/candy are made with food grade ingredients due to the fact that they are being "ingested" through inhalation, so that being said, are interchangeable for both uses (until you add nicotine)
It's worth noting however that many things that are safe to ingest are not safe to be inhaled, especially since e-juice is being heated. Sugars, food coloring and oils are things you'll commonly find in concentrates from FW and LA that can actually be quite dangerous to vape in the long run.
Has anyone tried the Nic River diy starter kit? From all the ones I've seen this seems like it has the most flavor samples available. Are there any others out there that compare or are even a better value?
their starter kit is a good one. when I was first trying to get into DIY I was tempted to get a kit from them but the users on this sub quickly convinced me otherwise. allow me to explain. that kit from nic river is intended to get people started mixing by volume. this absolutely is doable but certainly is not recommended. ask anyone here and they will definitely tell you to mix by weight. the kit is also full of tools you will probably never use, for example, the pipettes. flavors from nic river come in bottles with a drip tip already so there's no need them really. along with those graduated cylinders and whatnot. use the money saved from shit that's bundled in these kits to buy a nice weight scale that reads to the hundredth of a gram. you can thank me later. it's an absolute necessity. go to ELR and ATF and sort by best or popularity. find some recipes that look yummy and put those flavors into your shopping cart. browsing through the available recipes you'll probably see those flavors can be used more than once. the kit is convenient but you can make better use of your hard earned cash by buying exactly what you need to get started. good luck
Great, thanks for the advice. The kit really did look tempting with all the flavor samples but I totally forgot about the scale, I do want to mix by weight. Also,I thought I would still need the pipettes and syringes to add things to the mix. I'll take a look on those sites for recipes, I was going to grab some flavors I though would be ok and go from there, but I guess it's probably safer to start with tried and tested stuff. I keep some pipettes on hand. I have a few flavors in glass vials that I use them for. I also use them for transferring my nicotine into a 30ml working squeeze bottle.
I prefer them over syringes because I don't have to clean them. Also because I bought something like 200 of them a couple years back and I want to use them up.
There aren't really any other kits that come close to their price point for what you get. It's a good deal to start out.
Have been slowly developing a banana bread ry4 style recipe for a bit. Just want some other people's ideas on what direction I could take this recipe to make it better/completed. I'm thinking I want more of a buttery smooth note in the next batch and also a more pronounced bread note, maybe some wfsc croissant could help?. Seems like the ry4 and vanilla Ruyan is giving a bit of a dry-ish harshness/throat hit that I want to take care of in this next version. Considering adding a bit of banana cream to give a bit more of a full banana note, would that flavor also help round off some of the ry4 harshness and dryness? Or would something like vanilla swirl work better for that? Also thinking that HS vanilla ice cream might be something that could be replaced with a better fitting flavor, any ideas on that?

I'm not familiar with Ruyan Custard, but are you sure 3.5% Sugar Cookie isn't making it dry? I'd almost lose the cookie and try a TFA Butter/ JF or INW Biscuit combo. Since you already have the vanilla caramel thing going, some FW Butterscotch Ripple or FA Caramel might take it to the next level... Just throwing ideas for you.
I’ve done something similar and I think the FE/SC Cigar is a really good pair with RY4 Double to make it more bold and less harsh.
On specific gravities: usual recipes goes for 1ml = 1g for PG, VG and any flavors?
not exactly. I personally use the batch creator on ATF, it will show you the recipe in gm, ml, (will even show number of drops if you ask it to, though that not accurate due to different droppers) and also cost per ml if you have your inventory prices added in. When creating a batch, the gm-ml equivalent is close but never exactly =. Id def suggest using something like this, its very helpful.
