VAPE TRAIN Russian Vodka
DISCLAIMER: These are my personal notes that I am sharing with the community & all palates are different.
SETUP: Tobhino RDA N80 3x28G 38G Alien 2.5mm 0.25 Ohms 45 Watts
Testing Info: Steeped 14 days, Tested freshly mixed and after 14 days Mixed @ 4% 70/30
VT'S DESCRIPTION: " A Sharp Russian vodka flavour that will open many opportunities to create some of the finest beverage e-liquid recipes. We all know that vodka goes with absolutely anything and when it comes to e-liquid its uses are equally dynamic. Create recipes such vodka and orange, spritzers, watermelon martinis’, candy infused vodka and many more. Pairing vodka works in beverage, fruity, dessert and various other styles of e-liquid making. This is definitely a great flavour to carry in your arsenal if you’re looking for that authentic vodka taste."
NOTES: Tested on back of hand after mixing it tasted like a fruity cheap vodka. After it steeped for 2 weeks I vaped it. Fruitiness was still there but it was more like a citrus. It definitely smells & tastes like vodka. Not like a top shelf Russian Vodka, or hell not even like a Smirnoff citrus vodka. It's more of very bottom shelf plastic bottle vodka with some citrus in it. I do get kind of a Pinesol like note from, but it is not all that present. It is a decent enough vodka flavor that you can use it for a vodka note in a mix. Just be aware of the citrus note you will have to cover up if you're not going for a citrus vodka cocktail drink
Pairings: fruits & cocktails
Fun fact.. In the amatuer distilling world, you can buy flavourings and whatnot for your spirits.
A "vodka" flavouring sachet is often basically VG and celery flavouring. (VG is often added to spirits to smooth them out).
Soo... maybe if you want a touch of vodka flavouring, try a tiny tiny tiny bit of celery?
Interesting. Amateur distilling is very much against the law in the US, so even as a brewer I have to admit I know very little about it
I moved to New Zealand about 18 months ago - it's basically the only 1st world country where distillation is totally legal at home!
Found this:
"the following six compounds are primarily responsible for the characteristic flavor and aroma of celery: 3‐isobutylidene‐3a,4‐dihydrophthalide; 3‐isovalidene‐ 3a,4‐dihydrophthalide; 3‐isobutylidene phthalide; 3‐isovalidene phthalide; cis‐3‐hexen‐l‐yl pyruvate; and diacetyl. The phthalide derivatives are also implicated in the occurrence of certain celery off‐flavors reported in the literature."
So, if there's any way to locate flavors that currently exist with those... and a relatively flavorless flavor that can still impart a booze quality.
Although in theory, Vodka is just really pure alcohol with water added. The quality of the water added is usually the source of differences in vodkas, as well as triple vs quadruple distillation. (Or even just twice-distilled.) I'd be interested to try mixing quadruple-distilled grain alcohol with milli-q water from the lab. Likely to be the least flavorful ever.
Note the action of several compounds in celery ie solely to enhance other flavors, many of which don't exist in celery, but would be present as trace element contamination of the water used in the mix.
Excellent review! Thank You!
Did VT recommend to use this at 4%? Just curious.
They recommend 5-9% solo and 2-5% i have learned not to trust flavor company’s recommended percentages though
So this is basically a lemon Skol?
I have never had a lemon Skol so i can not compare it to that.
