A little late to the party, but I have a question anyway. I've noticed in a lot of "premium" juices, or even B&M branded juices, the flavors are extremely present and noticable. When I mix my juices the flavors seems to be wisps of sorts. Does this mean I'm not putting enough flavors in my mixes? On average my recipes are 2-5 flavors, usually not exceeding 10 or 12%. I just want a mix that knocks my socks off with flavor, anyone got anything?

What recipes have you tried that aren’t working for you?

1 points

Essentially all lately. A few originals and some off atf.

One that really bummed me out was Adam's Blueberry Muffin, I was looking forward to it for a long time.

I ran into this when I first started mixing as well.

Assuming you're mixing well known/decent recipes...

Commercial juices are often over-flavoured and over-sweetened. Once you've been DIYing for a while your palette will adjust and you'll probably find commercial juices sickly. You could try scaling up the flavour a bit and/or adding some sweetener to recipes but it can sometimes throw the balance out.

Make sure you're using good quality VG/PG/Nic. I cheaped out when I started and it really can kill flavour.

1 points

by isiordia95over 7 years ago

How cheap is too cheap? i.e. where should I not buy from?

1 points

by BuryMeInSmokeover 7 years ago

Make sure the VG and PG are USP grade for a start. Try and order from somewhere that has well sealed bottles and likely to be moving their stock resonably quickly. Both are hygroscopic and will absorb water from the atmosphere - I believe this was my problem when I started.

As for nicotine check have a search through this sub for the good suppliers, as long as you're using one of them you should be fine.

Also, don't forget your atty plays a part too. Most recipe creators are using attys that really focus on flavour. Commercial juice being over-flavoured can make up for atty that doesn't have great flavour.

Hey, all I tried jumping a year plus ago but all the flavors I was making were harsh tasted bad and gave me a headache. but I want to get back into it. I have had everything stored in a dark chest under the bed so the cool dark place storage works. I was more wondering if I should buy new nicotine and VG pg. I got the nic from wizard labs and the VG pg from flavor apprentice. are they low quality? (I know TFA is a concentrate standard have not read anything about their bases though) and I still wonder if the wizard labs nic is what made the juice SO harsh. thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance all who reply. this portion of the vape community is by far my favorite.

2 points

by BuryMeInSmokeover 7 years ago

VG and PG should be fine if they've been sealed well. If either of them seem more watery than usually I'd replace them - it's cheap enough.

I don't have any experience with Wizard Labs nicotine. Higher quality nicotine stored this way may be OK...lower quality maybe not.

Likely it's the nicotine that made your juice harsh and and gave it bad flavour. You're saving so much money by making your own juice it's worth chucking it and replacing it with something high quality (have a search of the sub for the best nic - I'm honestly not sure who's who anymore).

Hello! I was wondering what flavor might be the best alternative to INW Waffle, since it doesn’t seem to be available anymore. I was going to order some new flavors to try and mix up a batch of Dutchie and was sad to read that they had discontinued it.

I would also appreciate any input as to what ratio I should substitute in this recipe. I’m fairly new to mixing, but I know some brands are stronger than others.

I don't have much experience in the waffle department, but this post should be helpful.

1 points

by theaudiodidactover 7 years ago

Sadly, that seems to be the consensus from what I’m reading in my Waffle search...

1 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

INW ruined a bunch of flavors when they could've made themselves more money... their management has no imagination. Just because polish or euro law said they had to have more documentation than some of their suppliers would provide, they discontinued and reformulated... when they could've easily opened a shell corporation elsewhere (like somewhere in NA) and had that corporation continue to 'produce' the originals. And by 'produce' the likely meaning is "hire a Chem plant to produce it for them" but... instead, no more decent inw milk chocolate, or inw lemon, or inw lime, or...

1 points

by kuri_sanTouover 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

On all the flavors, under settings, there's a box you can check "Use specific flavor densities" then states "It is recommended you leave this unchecked. Most mixers do not use them, and your mixes will not calibrate properly if you share."

but on e liquid recipes the checkbox states, "Use manufacturer specific gravities." I'm assuming they're talking about the same thing. And if they are, why is my box checked on ELR but not on ATF?

5 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Opt-in vs. opt-out.

Also, elr is in all ways inferior to ATF. Nobody should really be using ELR anymore.

1 points

by stump1001over 7 years ago

What is better about ATF? I’m sorry, not trying to question you in a combative way. I’m new to mixing and signed up on both but have pretty much only used ELR except for looking at recipes on ATF. I really would like to know what you like better specifically, not doubting you in any way.

2 points

by kuri_sanTouover 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

I feel my question wasn't satisfactorily answered either. I know what opting in or out of something is. the question was more or less, what is that thing? this is our newbie thread after all.

I think he's saying one way ATF is better than ELR is because ATF recommends to opt out using the "density" feature.

I really wanted to use the ATF calculator because I heard about the batch feature and that they could manage inventory. I've got my flavor stash built on ELR because it just worked for me at day one. I just can't get the ATF one to like me or let me add to my inventory.

1 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

ATF isn't nearly as full of legacy recipes that use WAY too much flavor, since they were designed for ego pens. Also, since you have to pay to make a recipe public, less horrible recipes are likely to be public. And ATF is set up to default to measuring by weight in the way most people do it.

Granted, there are issues... like the insane delay in getting different flavors and/or bases included... but compared to ELR having multiple different names for identical flavors, based on case sensitivity and spacing, and ELR has just too many more serious issues.

I am working on a simple recipe using:

Cactus (INAWERA) - 0.25%
Dragonfruit (TPA) - 1%
Fuji Apple (FA) - 4%
Pear (CAP) - 5%.

Now this is delicious so far, the apple could go down slightly but it's ok as it is. The problem is that it's a little bit harsh on the throat. I don't think it is my nicotine/PG/VG as none of the other recipes I make have a problem. I was reading in this thread that some flavour pairings can be troublesome. I haven't single flavour tested these but is there a pairing here that is notorious?

3 points

by umbra4235over 7 years ago

FA Fuji is strong, I usually mix it at 1- max 2 %. A good combo for a apple imo is 4% Cap Double Apple / 1% FA Fuji

2 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

FA Fuji, as mentioned, shouldn't be that high. Not sure about CAP pear, mostly FA Pear gets the love...

2 points

by imNAchogrlover 7 years ago

I think pear in general is notoriously harsh before a steep. Can’t say for sure Capella pear but I have tfa pear candy and Rfsc pear and it’s like razor blades for a week until it chills out... maybe that’s your problem if like they said lowering your Fuji doesn’t work...;)

So I’m getting 1000ml of premade juice with 24mg of nic. I’m also buying 240ml of 60mg of nic. If I put 30ml of the premade into a bottle, how much of the nic should I add to make it somewhere between 60 and 70mg/ml

1 points

by OdieDoodahover 7 years ago

You'll never get the result you want. The nic that you have is AT the concentration you desire - any "premix" you add to it will only dilute it and lower the concentration. To achieve what you want you need to either get a higher concentration of nic, a higher concentration of "premix", lower you desired target, or buy a magic wand (grin).

1 points

by FlubberCarover 7 years ago

What about 100mg?

3 points

by OdieDoodahover 7 years ago

If you're using 100mg/ml nic - you would need to add 27ml to the 30ml of 24mg/ml "premix" to end up with 57ml of 60mg/ml juice.

Just remember back to your HS algebra class - solve for X

(30ml x 24 mg/ml) + (X ml x 100mg/ml) = (30ml + X ml) x 60mg/ml

1 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Ok, with 1000ml @24mg/ml you have 24000mg of nic. To be between 60 and 70mg/ml...

Let's start at 60. You need, for the 1000ml, another 36000mg of nic. Also, remember that the nic source needs to be counted in the final volume. So, for each ml of 100mg/ml nic, you have 40mg of nic to contribute to that 36000mg deficit from the 1L. So you need 900ml of 100mg/ml to get to the lower threshold.

For 70mg/ml, you need 46000mg of excess nic, and each ml of 100mg/ml only contributes 30mg, so you need to add 1533ml, roughly.

So, extrapolating from these, for a 30ml of source, you're looking at anywhere from 27ml to 45ml of nic base.

Anyone here use nicotine salts for low nicotine juice? I have had a hard time finding much info on this because every time I search the results are mostly people talking about high nic juice for pod systems.

Is there anything wrong with using salts at 3mg or 6mg? Do people just prefer normal nicotine for the throat hit?

2 points

by dontpanic4242over 7 years ago

I've been using salts for all my juice lately. I like the quick buzz and I've been too lazy to crack open my new freebase bottle. I typically use 2-4mg salts in my rdas and 6mg in my lower wattage rdas. For pods, anywhere from 25-40mg

1 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 7 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

Yes, but you may want to use 5 or 8 mg with the salts

1 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Nic salts are typically more expensive. If cost doesn't bother you, yeah it's better for your throat to use nic salts. Most people, tho... just get nic salts for the juul-like gear.

Hello, been pointed here to ask this question regarding CAPELLA CAKE BATTER V2. I couldn't get V1 shipped to me so I have V2 coming. Before it comes, any advice as to the difference between v1 and v2? Should I use same percentages in a recipe? Thanks.

2 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 7 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

Same percentages. It won’t taste as good and will require 2-3 times the steeping time.

1 points

by JooseMakerWannabeover 7 years ago

Unless you feel strongly that "v2's" are better for you, you want to avoid them. They don't taste half as good as "v1's", and they take MUCH longer to steep just to be palatable. Some people choose to use them, but the majority uses v1's. We figure after smoking cigarettes for so long, we are better off regardless. Personal choice, obviously.

How do you make a fruity juice sweeter?

I'm trying to make a fruit punch vape. I'm happy with the fruit flavors that I have, but the vape just doesn't feel like fruit punch without tasting sweet.

I don't want to add ethyl maltol or sucralose to it, I'd rather try to find a flavoring to sweeten it up.

So, what flavorings can you use in fruity juices to sweeten them?

IDK.. sweet cream might be too milky.. I considered marshmallow, but it's so weak and too much might make it taste weird..

2 points

by wh1skeyk1ngover 7 years agoThanks for reading this flair

I have a punch I have been messing with, TFA Champagne, TFA Dragonfruit, and CAP Sweet Lychee seem to work at 2% each for a decent base and you can sort of bend it how you want it from there. Cap sweet Lychee seems to be a key, and feel free to play around with percentages depending on what else you're throwing in.

1 points

I saw Lychee listed on several sites but never thought to click on it. Thanks, I'll look into that.

What’s your current recipe?

1 points

by AnTi90dover 7 years ago

2% Ace Pazzo - FA

2% West Coast Punch - FR

2% Cherry Extract - TPA

1% Citrus Punch - TPA

It's nice and fruity.. not too much pineapple, lemon or mango flavor.. It just isn't sweet enough.

2 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Since you have cherry, marzipan probably wouldn't show up too much. /u/philosophucker would likely suggest FA meringue (and INW Cactus). /u/hocuskrokus might suggest TFA Honeysuckle (he's a wise man). FA Blackcurrant would change the flavor some (okay, a lot) but it would sweeten the mix up. So would TFA Raspberry sweet. Of course, a lot of these flavors likely contain sucralose and/or EM. You could try monk fruit extract, or stevia, or Xylitol.

What’s up folks. I’ve been DIY’ing for about 6 months now and have developed a few recipes I’m fond of. The problem is that I’ve purchased all my supplies through Vapewild, mostly because they ship to an APO (US) for free after $35. I usually put in one order per month. Are there any other suppliers I should check out that might be better options? Still looking to only spend $30-$40 a month and not spend too much on shipping. I know there’s better stuff out there, I just don’t know where to start! Thanks

1 points

my order from nic river shipped on the 26th (CONUS) to FPO/AP. I have a small list of vendors that ship USPS, one of which ships for free to service members. Nic river ships for free if your purchase is over $50 or something like that. unfortunately even though my order was $100 dollars I didn't qualify for the deal because it was too heavy. from nic river in cali to sanfransico (FPO) cost me $25, which is a lot. but I did buy over 1500ml of liquids so I think that's fair. besides, our options are very limited

Have you considered ordering every other month rather than monthly, and spending twice as much per order? That should give you more options for hitting free shipping thresholds.

Vapewild is a shit company, and their flavors are just rebranded FW flavors. Ordering from anywhere else will be a huge improvement. Bull City Flavors If only placing flavor orders. Nicotine River if you need nic.

Hey guys, idk if this questions goes here but I recently picked up some FLO Vapor juice for $10/60ml bottle, bamboo lids too, found an unreal deal at the local b&m where my girlfriend lives. Anyway I bought 2 bottles with 0mg nicotine because I have my own and they were sold out of 3, I am just wondering what to expect in the way of flavour loss due to the PG nic solution 'watering it down' so to speak. Thanks guys :)

1 points

by kuri_sanTouover 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

so you vape 3mg? what's the concentration of your nic?

1 points

by stonedunikidover 7 years ago

48mg in pure PG. The 60ml bottle is 75/25

1 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

So, for each 60ml bottle you'd add 4ml of nic. So assuming 16% total flavoring in the original, the 'watered down' version would be 15% total flavoring, with a ratio pretty close to 70-30.

Ironically, the 'flavor loss' may not occur, as the higher PG content would (in addition to possibly violating your throat the way Muslim prophets violate little girls) actually carry the flavor better.

2 points

by chewymidgetover 7 years agoThe Colonel

Steeping, as vaping is concerned, means the flavorings interacting and having a chemical reaction the the base, e.g. PG,VG and Nic. If you don't have any flavorings in the mix their is nothing in the steeping process that needs time to do this.

I work at a vape shop and we get dozens of samples a month from companies who want us to sell their products.

They (usually) come in 100mL bottles at zero nic. I typically use 6mg nic.

I’m on a site called Nude Nicotine (is this a good site? Suggestions?) trying to buy some nic base so I can add my own nicotine to the samples I get.

What do all the different options mean and which one should I choose? The options are like “100mg/mL,” “48mg/ml,” etc.

I’ve never done any DIY stuff and our juice is made by another company (since FDA ruling says your juice can’t be made in the same facility it’s sold in) so we don’t do any mixing in house.

Any help is greatly appreciated:)

2 points

by blazinfireguyover 7 years ago

New here myself, so odds someone with better expertise will chime in. I'd suggest to get the strongest/highest nic you can. 100mg is what I've got. You'll need either a scale that goes to hundredths (0.00) which is the most accurate, or a syringe that is in milliliters. For 100 ml's of juice you'll want to weigh out 6.22g of 100ml nic, or just 6mm in a syringe. You will end up with 106ml of juice, but I'd do that instead of dumping out 6ml from the bottle. Somebody else better at this stuff will likely chime in and tell you I'm an idiot and all wrong, but that's what I'd do. If you go with something other than 100mg nic, or a 100ml bottle the math will change, so safest bet is to Google a e liquid calculator and enter in your nic base and how much you're wanting to make. Hope I helped. Good luck. Making it yourself is fun and challenging, but cheap and now I can't imagine going back to store bought.

Thank you for the detailed reply! That makes a lot of sense now that someone wrote it out for me. Happy DIY-ing!

2 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

It depends on your PG tolerance. If you use PG base nic, get 100mg/ml... if you want VG base nic, 48mg/ml is reasonable.

Note: to get 6mg/ml from 48mg/ml, for each ml of nic source, add 7ml of the juice. Your best bet is to use a calculator from the sidebar to determine the weight of your nic source to add. Your amounts (per 100ml of juice) would be 6.383ml (of 100mg/ml PG base) or 14.286ml (of 48mg/ml VG based nic). Remember, you need to include enough extra nic to niconate the base you're adding to your desired level.

Oh... and nude nicotine is a great site. Iff you're a masochist with too much time and money on your hands. If you aren't... well... are you capable of simple logical extrapolation?

1 points

by BuryMeInSmokeover 7 years ago

Worth noting that getting that nicotine to mix evenly through a mostly full 100mL bottle is going to be a PITA - not impossible, just a lot of shaking.

Personally I'd pour off an amount into an oversized bottle - eg 30mL into an empty 60mL or 50mL into a 100mL empty bottle and dose that amount. Will make it much easier to mix.

1 points

by alcyon83over 7 years ago

And... another nicotine related question :)
Is it better to store 100mg/ml nic (PG), or dilute it in base (80VG/20PG) and store at 3mg/ml ?

1 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

The only reason to dilute to 3mg/ml is if you intend to vape 2mg/ml or lower. Just separate into smaller bottles which you can store in the freezer, and keep it at 100mg/ml. Remember, there is no way to obtain 3mg/ml from a mix if you are only combining flavors and a 3mg/ml base.

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

You probably should look at doing your extraction with PEG400 and/or pure ethanol. Instructions are out there on how to accomplish this. Note that if you use pure ethanol to do your extraction, you need to steep long enough for the ethanol to evaporate out of the mix. And ensure you filter well enough to remove all solids from your extract.

Flavorings and heat do NOT mix. It will fuck up your flavors, as the flavor volatiles evaporate away at different temperatures.

Finally, your question is meaningless. Length of puff, wattage/temperature, and coil type all play a role in determining how much juice is consumed per hit. It varies widely.

I need a funnel that isn't plastic but can't seem to find a decently priced one anywhere. Does anybody have a funnel recommdation for transferring juice into smaller bottles?

Nic River sells glass funnels - three different sizes - all for less than $4

Hip flasks often come with a small SS funnel that may work depending on the size of the opening on your bottles. The other two posts are better options if you're ordering online though.

Anybody have a good recipe or place to start for butter cookies? Nothing extra, just that semi savory profile. Shortbread is similar and that would do as well, but they are different.

1 points

by BuryMeInSmokeover 7 years ago

I've never come across a shortbread type recipe, CAP Sugar Cookie is kinda in the realm but doesn't really hit the spot - it's a bit sweet and doesn't really have that dry-buttery-ness that a shortbread has.

These recipes may not be what you're after but could be a good place to start.

Strawberry Shortcake Bar - has strawberry obviously but has a really nice buttery cookie base.

Sugar Cookies and Cream - quite creamy but another good cookie base.

Simple Sugar Cookie - as the name suggests, the addition of CAP VCV1 fills/rounds it out though.

If you search "butter cookies" on ATF, there are several recipes. One is by Kopel, and he has a reputation as a good mixer. 2 of the recipes are by Chrisdvr1 and he makes lots and lots of yummy recipes-I'm just not sure if his are what you are looking for. Google and search are your friends when trying to find things. :)

Now i do understand the fact that i need to let it ferment don't get me wrong.

I made a 250ml mix, 65-35 (~3mg), and i made a small 10ml bottle to test after a few hours the problem is i do not know anyone who mixes their own, and i just want to know if you vape a mixed flavour about 3 hours after mixing the following will happen or i made an error with my mix. The vape (3-4 hours after mixing) is strong, insanely strong, like 6-8mg feeling. The flavor is there, but it seems slightly too strong and i can get about 20 hits off a single drip, but only around 5-8 have flavor?

Now keep in mind i am a newbie, unsure of consequences of vaping it too early. I apologize if this is a stupid/ridiculous question, i'm a student who's hooked on vaping and well, budget cuts, planned this out and if i cant vape it in a week i might be screwed. I apologize for taking your time.

First of all, you should post your recipe and device/wattage so we can get an idea of what is going on.

Also let us know how you are measuring (by eye/weight/volume?)

(Mods, do you think we could put this in the OP for these threads so people that need help can see what info might help us diagnose problems? Just a thought.)

Now, there are a few reasons you might be feeling like it's stronger:

  • You used too much nicotine. Most simple explanation, and we've all done it once or twice.
  • You didn't shake it enough, and you have hit a "hot spot". This is when the nicotine hasn't been uniformly blended into the mix and you vape a hit of super concentrated nic.
  • You've made a recipe designed for an old "pen" style device, and you're vaping it in a sub ohm. Sub ohm devices are much more powerful and you should only go up to about 6mg max, or you will be ingesting a lot of nic.

Give us the details and we can help you sort out the problem.

On a side note: try not to make huge batches of untested recipes, if they go wrong you will have wasted a lot of resources. :)

Apologies for not being clear.

I assume the Nic isnt the issue because this is my first time so i bought a pre-mixed base at 70-30 with 3mg.

My mod is a KBox Mini, with a thanatos RDA at 0.3 ohms, i tried it at 50W and 15W, the 15W didnt hit the nic as hard but the flavour seems...dry? I'm very bad with explanations, but it's basically dry at the back of my throat.

The recipe i used was 2.5% of Lemon Sicily and 2.5% of Lime Tahity (Both from FA). Now that you mention it, the guy who introduced me to the local pre-mix seller did say that he used 10% flavor total, could that be my issue?

I'm an oddball, i hate anything below 3, and i feel like anything above 3 is basically having a low-key weed effect on me. So 3 seems to be my personal preference, not sure if i should just scrap this batch or not because i do have enough Concentrate and Base to make another 250ml

Once again, thank you so much for your time!

Edit: I measure by volume, using 1ml syringes, couldnt be going wrong there i dont think, severely accurate if i didn't mess up. Edit 2: I just remembered that i DID NOT shake my pre mixed base...Oh no, could this be an issue?

2 points

by lNTERLINKEDover 7 years agoI did not ask for this flair.

Not shaking your base could certainly be an issue. You should shake the shit out of everything before you mix (base and flavours).

That recipe also looks pretty harsh to me. I would recommend something to smooth out those flavours as they both carry quite a throat hit.

I wouldn't scrap the batch just yet, as you can always tweak it with some more vg/pg/nic/other flavours.

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Your premixed base may have been prepped to actually contain 3.75mg/ml so you could use 20% flavoring and have a finished product of 3mg/ml. Or it could be 3.33mg/ml (and meant for a 10% flavor mix to produce the final 3mg). Note even these possible explanations only give your mix 3.17mg/ml to 3.56mg/ml so it shouldn't really make you lightheaded. Rape your throat, possibly, but not fuck with your head.

Edit: spellwreck changed "shouldn't" to 'should' - kinda changes the message.

Started working on a mango horchata styled recipe, this is my first batch:

  • Flv mango 3%

  • TFA VBIC 4%

  • Cap horchata 5%

For my next batch I want to try and get a bit more of a rice/starchy kind of note/texture, as well as boost the mango and give a bit more of a spice accent. am just wondering what suggestions you guys might have to improve this recipe. I was thinking of changing out the VBIC with a different cream, possibly something without vanilla or with less of a vanilla note (cap sweet cream, flv cream, TFA bav cream?). As for the mango, would I be fine just raising the percentage on that concentrate a bit or would adding a different fruit like apricot possibly help fill out the mango flavor better? For adding extra rice/starchy notes, I only have one other rice concentrate (TFA rice crunches), would that concentrate work in a recipe like this? Finally, for the spice, I was just thinking of using some fa Catalan cream?

2 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

If you want to boost the mango, it depends. To boost the peach half of the flavor, CAP Juicy Peach. To boost the Pinesol side of it, use VT Green Mango. FA Fresh Cream would be the vanilla-free cream you're thinking of. And the rice you want is likely the one from /u/shydno's recipe?

Nice thanks for the suggestions, that Fe sweet rice was the first one that came to mind, unfortunately that is hard to get here in Canada for me. Might have to grab it on my next chef's order.

Ah. Didn't realize. Yeah, chef's is good. Of course, you can always buy a 1l bottle of JF YC and taunt people with it... also, what about FLV whorechata or OoO rice pudding?

Question. I've been a DIYer for over a year, and used to using flavor percentages around 10% in a mod at 100 watts.

I recently switched to the suorin drop with nicotine salts, and I feel like the flavor in it is weak. Do you guys usually run higher flavoring percentages on these low watt devices? Any advice is helpful, I'm wondering if it's just the nature of a pod device or if I have to crank the flavoring higher.

Thanks

Try mixing recipes from several years ago.

The old ego pens didn't produce much in the way of vapor or flavor either... so try 5he recipes designed for them. Note- these are easiest to find on ELR. Search for highly rated recipes, and try to sort by date.

1 points

by stump1001over 7 years ago

Thanks for that info. I’m going to try that as well.

by Lulzorrover 7 years agoMixologist

afaik it's the nature of pod devices; from a lesser amount of vapor production to lower wattages.

you'll probably have to mess around with the flavor percentages to get what you're used to out of it. maybe x1.5% but I don't use pod systems. searching through the sub will probably yield results.

I'm pretty new to mixing and I was just wondering what the general consensus was on "speed steeping". Apparently one method of steeping that's said to be faster is where you put your bottles of e liquid in a bowl of warm water and allow it to sit for 10-15 mins, then repeat as necessary. Has anyone tried this?

3 points

by OdieDoodahover 7 years ago

You should consult the experts on Speed Steeping - Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Bigfoot. (grin)

Seriously though . . . the best thing you can do is forget about the myth of speed steeping, be patient, and just let Father Time work his magic.

1 points

by Lulzorrover 7 years agoMixologist

Speed steeping doesn't exist. I mean, the concept does.. it's just that concept doesn't translate to a finished product.

Most people need to find out for themselves, though, so give it a shot with a nice thick custard. steep some normally for a month and then mix a new batch and "speed steep" with your desired method. Test them side by side afterwards and you'll have your answer.

it's also worth mentioning that heat can degrade nicotine (making it more harsh) and destroy flavors.

Mix something and label it and then put it up and wait. I shake every now and then during the wait. It just gives me time to dig through more recipes and make more test samples. There’s plenty to do while you wait and you can keep making other juices too, before you know it 10 days+ will have gone by. If you just make one recipe and wait to try it, I could see it being annoying. I make a few recipes ever my few days so I can keep busy with the hobby.

I find DIY ejuice is pretty fun, especially that there are thousands of recipes of nearly anything you want.

The whole concept of it kind of seems hard to me especially with all the percentages thing. Is there a site or something that sells like a starter kit or something? and how do i use the percentage thing with the ingredients. I apologize if this is too much, i'm a noob. Is there a special kind of syringe for the percentage?

Look, there's a really simple list of what you need to mix:

  1. Bottles.
  2. Flavor concentrates.
  3. Bottles.
  4. VG.
  5. Bottles.
  6. Scale (accurate to .01g, max capacity of at least 300g)
  7. Bottles.
  8. Nicotine (assuming you don't vape 0mg)
  9. Bottles.
  10. PG (or PG alternative. Unless you are good vaping Max VG)
  11. Did I mention bottles? You need a bunch.

And that's really all you need. But you should do more research before you order. Make sure the flavors you order are the right ones - Don't assume that because a flavor is called "Irish Coffee" it necessarily tastes like a good cup of coffee with a good amount of Jamesons in it. Or that because a flavor is called Mexican liquor it tastes like tequila. (For the record, neither does.)

there's kits but you're better off buying everything individually. kits are usually geared towards volume mixing and what you should be doing is mixing with a digital scale. plus kits are filled with things you don't really need

also, look into one-shots

1 points

by GimmeOreosover 7 years ago

Thank you, but what is a one-shot?

1 points

by kuri_sanTouover 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

look it up. I've already been banned once for linking on this sub. DIYorDie is a good start. one shots are preprepared original recipes in concentrated form you just need to mix your nic, PG, and VG, then you're done. also, you will want to pay attention to the creator's recommended steep time

by stump1001over 7 years ago

It’s actually pretty simple. There’s tons of sites that have calculators, it will give you the weight of each flavor percentage in grams. You’ll definitely want to use one of the many websites available for mixing your juices. Check the sidebar or at the top of you’re using the app on mobile. ELR is the one I use the most. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed, it’s super easy once you educate yourself. Use ATF and/or ELR and enter all your flavors, those sites make DIY simple.

by GimmeOreosover 7 years ago

Thank you very much! That’s helpful. I’ll definitely check them out. If i may ask, what site do you use to buy the ingredients?

1 points

by stump1001over 7 years ago

Glad I could help. I haven’t found a site that has every single flavor but I use ecx for 99% of my flavors. They’ve been great and have nearly everything I’ve needed. Anytime you have a question, feel free to message me through reddit and I’ll try to give you the best info I can.

Thanks for the tip - edited.

Hey all, one of my favorite juice brands is Cloud Nurdz, particularly the Strawberry Lemon flavor.

Anybody here manage to successfully clone this flavor? It's really good, but personally, I don't think it's $25 good, lol. I was thinking strawberry ripe, lemon, and perhaps a sour candy flavor base would make it?

so I was watching an older gentleman on youtube mix his favorite shake n vape. If I had to guess, he was probably Australian. anyway, when his bottle was full he stuck what looked like an electronic toothbrush minus the bristles into the bottle and it mixed the shit out of his juice. I thought it was neat and would like to have one some day. what was it? and is it worth it? it looked very convenient and lazy at the same time, haha

Look at electric paint stirrers, especially for modeling paints. It’s what I’ve begun using. Just gotta make sure your bottle or whatever you’re mixing in can accommodate the spinning head. I just picked up a new one off Amazon today, actually.
