Help stop the FDA flavor ban! We need all vapers to help in this fight.
submitted about 7 years ago by SmokinJoe23

FDa has proposed regulations which could severely restrict or even ban flavors in vape juice! There is three easy tasks vapers can do to help in the fight. Follow these directions laid out for you. https://savevapeflavors.com/

I was going to make a similar post, but OP beat me to it. I'm not sure if there is a misinterpretation of new regs or what, but after bitching to Flavour Art, i got this response:

>Hello,
Thank you for your input - the restriction of sale for diketone containing flavours was a decision made to comply with the upcoming regulatory atmosphere. We understand that this decision brings negative revenue and popular opinion, however we must comply with the various global agencies that are restricting the use of these molecules.
Regards,
Richard Hong
Vice President, Sales
FlavourArt North America

Now, while I get that some of us naively assume they can't ban flavorings, this message has me thinking the legislators actually can and will. I haven't followed up further, but as I understand this reply, there will potentially be a diketones ban in the nearish future.

There will indeed be a diketone ban in the near future (for use in commercial Ejuice, which I think is what you meant). FANA is helping to make sure of that.

No they can't. Sodas. Ice Cream. Everything has flavors.

Flavors for Ice Cream making are very delicious by the way and have been used for vaping for many years. Some friends of mine still only buy flavors which are marketed for ice cream making. They have VG too.

Follow the money --->Big tobacco has been behind all negativity towards vaping

by Prometheus_unwoundabout 7 years ago

Hate to break it you, but ‘Big Vape’ is probably behind this one. When all the diketones are banned, the company that’s reimagined itself as being “diketone-free” is going to make a killing.

by johnknapikabout 7 years ago

Exactly, they brought out all the shitty e-cigs knowing people would try them and go back to cigs and put a bad taste in consumers mouths so they wouldn’t even try vaping. Just like big tobacco was behind the banning of the sale of flavored cigarettes.

by ReMaxxUTabout 7 years agoTobacconist

> flavored cigarettes.

I thought that move was purely the old politicians' "Look at how we're saving your children from the slow death of smoking cherry-flavored cigarettes, so re-elect us because we're doing good stuff!"

Self-serving bastards.

by johnknapikabout 7 years ago

Nah, big tobacco pushed that shit but it was done to look like it was for the children. Yeah a cherry flavored cig is the devil, but I can buy bottles of cotton candy flavored vodka and drink myself to death in a few short hours.

We make juice. They can’t ban food flavors.

A lot of vapers don't diy even though they should. We have to preserve our rights.

I know. But this is the DIY sub...

If the FDA does succeed in a flavor ban this sub will be overrun with thousands of people who won't read the sidebar. Please help preserve our quiet & orderly corner of the web. (joking ... kinda)

Actually DIYers seem more invested into helping preserve vaping, imo. It shouldn't matter if you DIY, everyone should be filling out this survey. It's not about you and/or me. It's about the millions of lives it can potentially save.

From what I hear, the FDA has there eyes on the DIY community as well. While they can't completely stop DIY, they can make it much more difficult. Restrictions on nicotine, for example.

I'm sure you didn't start out ~~makwing~~ making your own. What was your first bottle of juice? Premade?

Edit: speeling

did the survey and sent an email. will write a letter tomorrow. Smoked almost 2 packs a day for 15 years. I quit the day my vape arrived in the mail. never bought another pack, tried smoking one while drunk a few months back and nearly tossed my cookies.

Just mixed up my first DIY batch this morning after vaping for a little over a year now. I imagine this flavor ban would be a very real and unnecessary hurdle for new vapors.

smoked for 35 years and quit the same day mine arrived, too. I'm loving Naked 100 Really Berry and D/B's Abomination. This is just disheartening. You'd think the government would want HEALTHY tax payers instead of dying ones...

by rubermnkeyabout 7 years ago

for bonus crazy, they aren't even allowed to advertise as being a way to quit or reduce smoking.

I get they don't want teenagers vaping, but if everyone is doing their jobs right, no one should be selling the products to minors anyway. A blanket ban on all flavors on the off chance a teenager might be attracted to some of the flavors, is just beyond dumb.

I'm not terribly concerned about the FDA banning flavors in juice, seems like vendors could work around that problem by selling the flavoring and the unflavored base in separate bottles. If necessary, sell only the flavorings in one store or website, sell the base in another under a partnership agreement.

I'm worried about them striking at the heart of vaping by tightly restricting access to nicotine or placing an outrageously high tax on it. Might even do both. Or completely stop nic sales to individuals.

They did similar in Europe.

Juice containing nicotine got limited to 10ml bottles in packs of 3. Also have to have a huge waste of paper warning booklet inside and a bunch of warnings. Any liquid in bottles larger than 10ml can't contain nicotine.

So now they sell 60ml unicorn bottles containing 50ml of 0mg juice and a separate nic bottle you pour in and shake.

by lNTERLINKEDabout 7 years agoI did not ask for this flair.

They did do that, but it's trivially easy to still get 72mg nic if you know where. It hasn't affected DIYers of the level we have in this sub, as they will know where to look for it.

by ClownstickV0nFckfaceabout 7 years ago

Would be glad to hear any tips on that!

(Although I live in germany and you can get jail time for importing high nic -.-)

The survey wont let me take it because it says the age i entered is "not the same" as the one "previously entered"

If this applied, they would have to restrict cigar flavoring that taste like apples or peaches right?

Or liquor that is flavored?

Food based flavors that are sold commercial as just that wouldn't be banned for me, a consumer, I doubt this would hit me as a DIY'er.

I understand non-DIYer would be hit with this, but I doubt it would happen.

I believe Finland was the first jurisdiction to ban (or at least severely limit) flavors in ejuice. Ontario recently approved a fretwork for eliminating flavored juice, but hasn't implemented it yet. There's probably more examples... it's not what anyone would consider original thought. Or rational thought, for that matter.

by tannerpending2113about 7 years agoMixologist

They're seriously just gonna create more of a black market with this. People are just gonna buy their juice from their friend who DIYs instead of a store.

by EitherBicycleabout 7 years ago

And i thought living in the UK and having to use a 2ml tank was bad but taking flavour away just proves how corrupt the FDA are, money will be changing hands and it will be coming from tobacco companies.

And from the pill-makers.

And the anti-smoking movement. (If everyone quits smoking, everyone in the movement is out of a job... and a lot of those jobs are for really nice money.)

I tried to comment but it will not alow me to send the form no matter what I do. I will try again later. I am really hoping some people get off their asses and do this. Honestly, I am a USA citizen but have been living in Asia for the last 13 years. If I ever return to the states I will simply mix my own juice which is what I do now.

I would love to help out my American cousins, but after Cambridge Analytica I will never fill out another online survey.

No worries. The survey only wants US residents.
