Rather than make a pitiful pun Title, I'll just post the Flavor of the Week: PEACH!
submitted over 7 years ago by ID10-T

As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!

Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

#This week's flavor is: PEACH

How did that get to be the FOTW?

It was requested. If you're not interested in this FOTW, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that).

Past FOTW posts can be found here

The NOTED podcasts, which are bascially video FOTWs, are listed on this sheet, maintained by /u/apexified

I always find peach to be insanely harsh. If anyone has a halfway decent recipe that doesn't feel like lung asphalt, it'd be appreciated.

6 points

by jdrocker77over 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

Have you tried JF Honey Peach? That one is solid and I don't get much harshness from it.

3 points

by TheMostSolidOfSnakesover 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

I have not, thank you. Where can I find more JF flavors? To my knowledge BCV doesn't have a wide selection.

You have to get them at ECX. I think Chefs has them too, just rebranded.

2 points

by Prometheus_unwoundover 7 years ago

If you put an order in from ECX, you have to get JF Honeydew Melon, JF Sweet Strawberry, and JF Biscuit!

3 points

by Prometheus_unwoundover 7 years ago

Might not be harsh, but it is super potent, particularly it’s “honey” component. I’ve diluted this flavor to .05% before, and it still overwhelmed the fruit, cream and bakery stones I was playing with. This isn’t necessarily bad, but I feel like JF Honey Peach is a niche concentrate. If you’ve got any favorite uses for it, kick em my way please!

2 points

by bhamcatmaybeover 7 years ago

i always find it tastes too much like overripe/vaguely rotten peach because of the honey, unless used at ridiculously low percentages. even then, there are better peaches. i like medicine flower's peach and inw's peach- also WF peaches and cream pie flavor, although it needs a small booster from another peach flavor to be really good. i also use fa's armenia/apricot to simulate or boost peaches at lowwww levels, like no more than .5%

by ID10-Tover 7 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

I don't get a lot of harshness from peaches. Have you tried a number of them and can you sort of rank them in terms of harshness? JF Honey Peach feels different enough from other peach flavors that I could see it working for people who can't do other peaches. Another one that comes up when people complain about peaches that might not be painful is FLV.

3 points

by Trevorxgageover 7 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

I love me some JF honey peach, but I'll also throw a vote for FLV peach.

Honestly TFA is the one that really kills me. I can use FA's peaches fine, but I use them at fairly low % so that may have something to do with it

If you are doing a bakery, WF Peaches and Cream pie is very good and not harsh at all.

Look how many components there are in TFA Juicy Peach. Could be any number of things or combinations of things that you're sensitive to in there, but from what I hear, the most likely one is Linalool. See any other flavors on this list that try to murder you?

by TheMostSolidOfSnakesover 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

I use (TFA) Sweet Tart in my Sprite Mix, and it has a bit of roughness. Orange definitely gives me pepper throat. Thanks for the tip ID10-T. Big fan of your work.

Do you have any issue with it tasting weird? Came here to see if this was addressed. I LOVE peach. I love peaches, peach snapple, anything peach flavored. It's crack to me. But any juice I vape with a peach flavor never fails to taste like rubbing alcohol. It's awful. I have juices with only the slightest amount of peach in the mix and it throws the whole thing off for me and I can't wrap my head around why because I love everything peach besides when it's in my vape

2 points

by tehspamninjaover 7 years ago

I have the same problem with peach and harshness, despite it being one of my preferred flavors. One of my favorite mixes thay isn't harsh is "Resinite Peach" on ELR, check it out if you have a chance.

Nebulous

A nice summertime cocktail of a drink/juice/recipe. No surprises in this recipe but it's a nice simple blend.

  • 6% TFA Strawberry Ripe
  • 4% INW Pineapple
  • 2% TFA Dragonfruit
  • 1% INW Peach (personally I find that 1.5% INW Mango works better than INW Peach but since Peach is the FOTW...)
  • .8% INW Cactus
  • 1.25% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
  • OPTIONAL .75% Koolada to simulate an icy blended drink

Personally I actually prefer the recipe with 1.5% INW Mango instead of 1% INW Peach but since Peach is the FOTW I chose to place it in the recipe instead. Both work fairly well though, you can even replace the Peach with TFA Juicy Peach in various percentages. In fact for that matter the percentages can be tweaked across the board for all the ingredients.

INW Pineapple is the star of the show and is in the running for one of my favorite all-time flavors. If you haven't tried pushing it then do so, immediately. One of the few INW flavors that is actually quite effective from 1-7%+ without blowing out your taste buds.

TFA Strawberry Ripe is a reliable old workhorse. Similar to TFA Vanilla Swirl there are no surprises here, it does exactly what you expect it to and it too is very functional at a wide range of percentages. Same goes for TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, super predictable but just works so perfectly in this mix.

The rest are just my own personal blend of additives that add particular nuances to the juice. These end up in many of my fruit juices. TFA Dragonfruit works an emulsifier to nicely blend the ingredients together, INW Cactus adds the predictable "juiciness" we all know and love it for, and TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream adds a nice and sweet creaminess.

Edit: Remix of the original Nebula posted by /u/matthewkocanada. Apparently he began the mix as a attempted clone of Stargazer by Viper Vapor

This is very much a work in progress but I constantly come back to it to vape occasionally and tweak it here and there.

Enjoy!

Hey what would you sub for vbic? I'm a pepper taster (not really pepper but that's seems to be the category I fall into, vbic makes me gag quite badly)

2 points

by psykiover 7 years agoMixologist

FA Vienna Cream was pretty good although use a light touch as it has a tendency to mute the fruits. TFA Bavarian Cream was a no-go for me personally, the flavor is rather heavy handed and was incongruous. FA Fresh Cream could be tried as it has a relatively neutral flavor profile but in my experience it too can mute fruits at higher percentages. I would try FA Catalan Cream if I were to go back to the drawing board, just watch out because it has its own unique flavor but it does bring a nice citrus to the table. Hell, even TFA Vanilla Swirl would bring a healthy vanilla flavor to your palate.

It'd actually be perfectly fine without a cream component! If that's the thing holding you back then try it without it.

2 points

by Typical_Pakehaover 7 years ago

Ah cool I'll have to try a pinch of FA Vienna Cream and FA Fresh Cream or the TFA vanilla swirl. Unfortunately don't have the Catalan cream.

Definitely keen to try this out as I've been eyeballing the recipe for a while but have been holding back because I wasn't sure wasn't which to sub the cream for. Thanks for replying!

FW peach. When I think of peach flavor, this stuff nails that candy peach. It's a great artificial peach flavor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

To me it has virtually no throat hit and carries a good sweetness. Maybe if the ol juicy peaches are too harsh or lacking in flavor for you, try this stuff.

Been puffing on this lately

6% FW peach

3% FA mangosteen

3% strawberry ripe (thinking of CAP sweet strawberry next batch)

1% FW Blood Orange. (a little tang and throat hit)

No sweetener required, pretty good shake and vape.

4 points

by Prometheus_unwoundover 7 years ago

That sounds pretty tasty. I’d probably cut all of those percentages in half, but I like the flavors and ratios you are using.

3 points

by McTouchButtover 7 years ago

I really like the FW peach, tastes like peach candy almost, really sweet, peachy and pretty mild on the throat.

2 points

by BlazeDemBeatzover 7 years agoMentholatier

Me too, I'd say FW peach is my preferred.

I mix something similar to yours except it's Peach/Strawberry/Dragonfruit.

The Peach/Strawberry/(insert another fruit) is one of those combos where you can mix and match different flavors into it and come up with a ton of great variations.

2 points

by DarkJester89over 7 years agoThe Clone-y Professor

Just curious, whats the deal with cutting flavorings in half all of a sudden, it's like the fifth time ive seen it, even on somewhat low %'s like 12%, low being..compared to like above 20%

2 points

by Prometheus_unwoundover 7 years ago

It’s not like a rule of the thumb thing, but the specific concentrates in this recipe. Particularly the FA Mangosteen, and the Strawberry Ripe. Mangosteen turns into spicy basil above 2%, which isn’t necessarily bad, but doesn’t seem to fit with a peach profile. Strawberry Ripe at 3% would be fine for a day or two, but after a steep... weird ketchup.

Total percent of flavor isn’t really much of an indication of actual flavor, imo. If you are using all Inawera or Flavorah for a recipe, you’re going to end up with a low total percentage of flavor. If you are using all TPA and CAP, you’re probably going to end up with a higher total.

1 points

by McTouchButtover 7 years ago

Changed it up today to a smoother peachier version

3% FW peach

1.5% magosteen

1.5% strawberry ripe

1% blood orange

1% FA white peach

1% TFA juicy peach.

Pretty tasty

I've been playing a bit with One Drop peach. Tastes very fruit like, as opposed to candy peaches. Very very slightly floral and i havent noticed much throat hit but it's not done steeping.

Currently im using it with ONE custard, ONE strawberry, cap sweet strawberry, tfa marshmallow, and RF's VG butterscotch pudding. Recipe.

I was considering throwing in vcv1 but i didn't have enough to make 120ml so i skipped it altogether.

2.5%. I'm not sure i'd want it to be much higher, i can taste it over everything else pre-steep. we'll see.

You should try halving the %'s, it might taste even better.

1 points

by DarkJester89over 7 years agoThe Clone-y Professor

Other than the stigma that "oh no, its above 20%" flavoring, (which is normal given how old this juice line is), what grounds should I halve the %?

Just curious, I've made gallons of this flavor, and its 99.99% clone of the juice, if not a stronger flavor.

1 points

by KillScreen-over 7 years ago

Fuji 3%, Peach juicy at .75% (or 0.2% peach juicy/0.35% FA peach white). The fuji will boost the peach, so those %'s are enough and tested to exhaustion. I don't know the original recipe but at those %'s they will be even in flavor. Koolada at 3% is an overkill and it will mute your flavors, as well as a metallic off notes to the juice. Go with ws-23 (30% solution) at 1% max! For the extreme ice, sub it with ws-5 (10% solution) at 0.4% max, above that it will give you freeze headaches. For the strawberry i would start with 4% and go from there. hope it helps

My first time I can contribute to a FOTW!

Here’s something I threw together last week when it finally started warming up. I’m pretty happy with it right now but am always open to suggestions.

  • Peach (Juicy) TPA 5%
  • White Peach FA 3%
  • Strawberry (Ripe) TPA 2%
  • Sweet Strawberry CAP 2%
  • Sweetener TPA 1%

If you ever find it too floral you can lower the White Peach by half. Also can add some Koolada - it's great with the warm weather.

by btcruiserover 7 years ago

I have spent the past 1.5 years trying to formulate a strawberry peach custard recipe. Custard steep time just draws out the process. I’m looking for a real fresh peach flavor, and I find most peach flavors out there are either candy like or canned peach like in flavor. FA White Peach is pretty close to a real peach, but I find it likes to take over a recipe easily. Lately I have been playing with LA Peach (Clear or Colorless) which seems pretty authentic to me, and really mixes well with other flavors. I steered away from LA Peach in the past as they add food coloring to the smaller sizes, but a few resellers have been purchasing larger uncolored batches and selling it in smaller vials as ‘clear’. Any way, if you are looking for a more authentic peach flavor maybe give LA Peach (Clear) a try.

I've never had Ruthless Slurricane. I found an old post here about it, a clone recipe. I liked the flavors involved, but not the percentages. It's a blend of Papaya/Peach/Guava. I also added some coolness. I've been vaping the hell out of this. TFA Papaya is the star. I've really grown to like it. Peach in a supporting role-

"Slurricane-esque"

  • TFA-Papaya 6%
  • TFA-Juicy Peach 2%
  • CAP-Sweet Guava 2%
  • TFA-Koolada .75%

(I probably messed up the formatting)

2 points

by MasterBeernutsover 7 years ago

Looks tasty! I would up the CAP Sweet Guava to 5 or 6% as I find it gets easily swept away by other flavours. FLV Mango would be a tasty sub for the peach in this, as an alternative. I strongly recd you add 0.5-1% LA Cream Cheese Icing to this recipe too - I have a couple of very similar recipes and it really lifts everything.

Thanks for the icing tip. I'll try it out next time for sure. I've never had real papaya in my life. So when I got the flavoring I didn't know what to expect. I didn't really like it at first, and thought it was musky. I've since grown to really like it in this.
