Deep-Fried Spongecake
submitted over 7 years ago by jengamaster345

I've tried a couple of times to make a cereal recipe that actually tastes like cereal, and as you can see from the title of this post I still have not succeeded! This recipe came from one of those attempts, but has changed a fair bit since the initial recipe.

I don't feel comfortable calling this a Twinkie, because I have only had one or two Twinkies in my entire life. Tragic, but true. I think this tastes pretty close to a deep-fried spongecake. It would probably make a good base for a fruit flavour of some kind, but I have been vaping this all day for about a week so I think it's a decent stand-alone flavour that is hard to get tired of.

Cereal 27 (CAP) 4.00%

This is the main fried dough flavour, and has a nice honey-glazed taste that plays nicely with the other concentrates.

Custard (INW) 0.50%

This is added just as an accent, to give the recipe a more full and complete taste. Without the custard, the mix tasted a bit flat. I chose INW over CAP or FLV for that decreased steep time. 0.5% probably takes away from the authenticity of the flavour as the custard is pretty distinct, but it just too good.

Milk and Honey (FLV) 1.25%

Has a delicious malted milk aftertaste, but also a much darker honey flavour that fits well with Cereal 27. I love this concentrate, I feel like it goes with almost everything.

Super Sweet (CAP) 0.25%

A little bit of super sweet never hurt anybody. 0.25 adds to the junk-food taste of this without totally destroying your coils. The recipe works fine without this though, so take it or leave it.

Toasted Marshmallow (TPA) 1.25%

Part of the 'Unnatural Cream Center' flavour profile. Does seem to boost the creaminess and body of the recipe overall.

Vanilla Swirl (TPA) 1.00%

This one serves two purposes, to accentuate the milky taste from FLV milk and honey and to turn the INW custard into a vanilla custard.

Brown Sugar (TPA) 0.50%

This adds a dark, fruity caramelised taste to the recipe. Helps with the baked/fried taste, I think.

I just get bran cereal from Cereal 27. I'd probably need some FA Joy to make this work for me.

Yeah it's worth a shot, I've never had much luck with Joy myself. Let me know how it turns out if you do!

You can try Zeppola (FA) at about 1-2% starting. Has a nice fried doughy taste to me.

I get more powdered sugar than a fried effect until u get to around 3%. That powdered sugar could work well here though.

Zeplola has the best fried flavor imho. Its so universal at anything less then 2%. Try 0.5% and go up for ur Twinkie homage.

This is interesting. Have you tried Using a little AP to add the graininess to the Cereal 27? That is how I get my cereals to actually taste like cereal. I can use Fruit Circles, Cereal 27 and some AP and to me it has the mouth feel and taste of real cereal. You can also try Joy?

This recipe looks good though and I am tempted to make a strawberry version. What kind of steep have you had on it?

I haven't tried AP with either Cereal 27 or Fruit Circles, what kind of %s or ratios have worked for you?

As for steep it doesn't need much, 3-4 days. It tastes decent after shaking, but the steep helps.

I start with .25% and i have used it up to 1% totally personal preference and how "grainy you want it" In my fruit loops, I do 12% Fruit Circles TPA, 5% Cereal 27, and 0.5% AP. Needs a week to settle in.

What kind of cereal are you ultimately going for? Like golden grahams, or a fruity cereal?

Sounds delightful. I am hooked on Bakery flavors as my ADVs. Currently on "Cake Batter" from The Vapory in Las Cruces, NM. I haven't taken the "One Giant Step Forward" into making my own juices yet (still in the reading and learning phase); but have saved your post for future reference. Thanks.

WF Deep Fried Pastry Dough will add the "oily" aspect that I see missing from here. It also adds a really great, thick mouthfeel
