As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

Here's my custard from a couple months back, Maple Almond Vanilla Custard 🍁🍮 🌰. I'm using INW Creme Brulee and LA Cream Cheese Icing to pull out the custard flavor, which is sort of novel. I love the stuff!
Flavor|% -------|- Biscuit (Jungle Flavors)|1.50 Cream Cheese Icing (LA)|1.50 Creme Brulee (INAWERA)|2.00 Yellow Cake (Jungle Flavors)|2.00 Marzipan (INAWERA)|1.00 RY4 Double (Jungle Flavors)|2.00 Vanilla Shisha (INAWERA)|1.50
I just want to note that this has been on the FOTW schedule for months and it's only a coincidence that today is the day we learn of the WORLDWIDE DIACETYL SHORTAGE.
Edit: new imgur link. You happy now /u/Lulzorr ?
Oh No! I think it happened because I bought a 120 ml bottle of CAP Vanilla Custard. That had never happened before. which must have wrecked the forecasts of the whole diacetyl supply chain since such a thing had not happened before. My bad.
Oh, you think diacetyl is your ally. But you merely adopted the diacetyl; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn't see the clean version until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING! The diketones betray you, because they belong to me!
Is this Diacetyl shortage actually a real thing? I've only seen that post on the chef's group mentioned and can't tell if it's a joke or not.
No there’s not really a diacetyl shortage. Why someone would say that there is? Not entirely sure but the best theory I have is that is a situation where lying to one of your vendors about the availability of a product is incredibly stupid, but just coming out and saying you don’t want to sell it to them because you know where it will wind up would be even worse PR.
I have an honest question. Isn’t diacetyl directly linked to popcorn lung? Why use it in vape juice? Isn’t there a movement to get it removed from juices?
I smell Big Tobacco 😡! And if I wasn’t so pissed I’d give them props because damn that was clever on their part...cocksuckers ! If they’re successful with this it could actually hurt imo...I pray they are not and never will be successful against us and/or our diketones. Amen...;)
- CAP vanilla custard v1 6%
- CAP juicy lemon 2%
- CAP Italian lemon Sicily 1%
- TFA whipped cream 3%
Steep for 2 weeks = a solid lemon custard
Would subbing caps lemon Sicily for FA be a huge change?
That sounds pretty close to what I'm vaping right now. I did a riff on a recipe you posted a while ago (Lemon Curdstard). I took out the Cheesecake Graham crust (that never tastes quite right to me), amped up the lemon, and added Orange. Let me see if I can format this correctly...
- CAP Vanilla custard 4%
- CAP Juicy lemon 5%
- CAP Lemon Sicily 3%
- TFA French vanilla II 1%
- INW (I think) Orange 2%
- TFA Whipped Cream 2%
I have tried a lot of different store-bought lemon flavors, but none of them taste as good as this. I just did a shake-and-vape, and it tastes great to me. I'll mix up another batch & let it steep while I vape this.
I might drop the orange down to 1.5% and raise the Lemon Sicily by 0.5% on the next batch, though. In any case, thanks for a great starting point!
I mostly fucks with INW Custard because I’m not a huge vanilla fan, and I don’t really get vanilla from INW.
I’ve got my own strawberry milk cream thing that’ll probably just stay private forever because who needs more strawberry and cream recipes?
Lil bit of custard in my Humbug recipe.
Using some CAP VC v1 in this VCT clone. I need to check in on that now that I’m thinking about it.
Got some more CAP in my Tripoli “as close as I can get” tribute.
Without getting down and dirty searching through my recipes, that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I don’t use it often, and I don’t use it well, but I do sometimes use it.
I still haven't made my Vaper's Tek nic order and they don't even have INW Custard >:(. Might have to get Creme Brulee instead.
It’s really weird they don’t have Custard. They’ve got so many other INW flavors. It just don’t make no sense. I picked up Creme Brûlée a while back, but haven’t messed with it too much. Can’t even remember what I was working on when I used it. Probably some failed idea for mixers club.
Let me know how that VCT comes out!
I need to rewick my testing RDAs to do a good side by side, but just a quick drop of each is telling me it’s pretty close. I’m guessing they probably use CAP Vanilla Custard v2, which I don’t have. TFA Turkish might need to come down just a hair, but it’s actually pretty good where it is now.

Hi I’m new here, made this custard recipe a few months ago, Vanilla custard TFA 8% French Vanilla CAP 3% DX Bavarian cream TFA 2% Vanillin TFA 2%
I had few custards and TFA always taste like carton box to me :) realy try INV or Cap version it will change everything.
I would say something about fa custard premium, but I don't want to receive a c&d letter....
Apparently it doesn't matter what you say about it, you can't get any.
WORLDWIDE DIACETYL SHORTAGE
- 2% Inw custard
- 1-2% fa hazelnut (the one in pg not vegetal oil fuck-o)
- 50/50 - give it a week.
sticking with impromptu portmanteaus for the lel les call it:
nutstard
That reminds me, this last weekend I made a nut nog tobacco.
Enjoy some Nut Nog with your Nutstard.
I've mostly used custards to help make otherwise unwanted flavors more palatable for friends. otherwise i don't have much to say about them. Custard's not on my list of favorite flavors.
in this recipe RY4 custard, I used CAP VCV1 to give the already delicious RY4 a more creamy, thick, and full flavor which passed the test for a picky friend. He said he did not want and could not vape tobacco flavors. That recipe changed his mind.
Though, to be totally honest, I think that RY4 flavors on their own would change most people's minds. more notes on the recipe page.
Manu. | Flavor | Pct. ---|---|---- CAP | Bavarian Cream | .75 FA | Cookie | .75 DFS | Holy Grail RY4 | 4 FA | Marshmallow | 1 CAP | Vanilla Custard | 2
steep: 25-30 days best around 70/30-80/20
E: wtf i put fw Instead of fa and didn't notice for a week.
I'm here to hype Simple Sugar Cookie again. By far the best use of CAP Vanilla Custard I've had. I just made a little bit with 3% of FW Butter Pecan added and it's stupid good!
edit: also I've tried INW Custard in 1 or 2 mixer's club recipes, it's clearly tasty
<3
Is there a way to make that recipe work with v2's because I've had a 6 week steep on a 1;1 sub and it still tastes... kinda like FA Fuji after a tank or two
Mhm....good stuff. Can't wait to try that variation!
- 3% INW Shisha Strawberry
- 2% INW Custard
- 1% INW Shisha Vanilla
Its hands down my favorite simple shake and vape. INW Custard is the best custard in the world for getting a quick steep.
I'll weep when they reformulate that one. I mean just on the floor, ugly crying.
Mr 10 - can you please answer a couple of Q's? They are reformulating INW Custard? Do you know why? I've finally sourced some (there seems to be only 1 shop in the whole of Australia that sell it) and it arrived yesterday. It smells amazing but i haven't mixed with it yet. From what I've gathered here, it seems to be mixed quite low (1%-3% tops), and I'm just thinking of all the different ways to use it. The recipe above looks nice so i might start with that, and then get creative after. I love Inawera.
I've posted a previous version of this before but it was quite high percentage flavor wise. I reworked it a bit so hopefully it's ok to post it.
Vanilla custard overload v2
-
Bavarian cream (TPA) 1%
-
cheesecake Graham crust (TPA)2%
-
creme brulee (inw) 1.5%
-
French vanilla (Cap) 2%
-
vanilla bean ice cream (Cap) 2%
-
vanilla custard v1 (cap) 4%
-
*white chocolate (RF SC) 1%
The white chocolate is optional as it's not a really common flavor, it does add a bit more creaminess though. This is really vapeable after a day or so but given a few weeks the flavors really blend together for a decadent vanilla treat.
Creamy vanilla custard with strong vanilla flavor is what I'm trying to make since i started diying, i made some solid batches, but not what I'm looking for. I made over 100 batches so far...
Creamy vanilla goodness. Try on day 2, if you like it carry on vaping (I really like it when it's freshly mixed). If you want it a bit more coherent, let it steep for two weeks. This is really dreamy and very vanilla-y stuff. One of my favourites.
(DFS) Holy Vanilla: 0.5
(INW) Shisha Vanilla: 1.5
(CAP) Vanilla Custard v1: 7
(TPA) Bavarian cream: 1
(TPA) Vanilla swirl: 1.5
(TPA) VBIC: 2
I'm definitely gonna try that one, it seems good. Is there a chance i can leave holy vanilla out or replace kt? I used it all i had and I'm not planning to place a new order in the near future.
Here here that looks gooood! But no Vatican City Vanilla here either... but it’s only .5, could be educational trying different vanillas in there. My dog treats got my new flavors budget. 😩😂 damn those bully sticks!
This looks delicious! Do you have an ATF link so I can favorite it and put in my mixing software later. I r lazy rn :-D
Cap Vanilla Custard is utilized in nearly 1/3 of my 145 recipes.
For simplicity's sake, Cap VCv1 @ 5% + basically any fruit flavor at a percentage you're comfortable with is great after a week.
I get a noticeable bit of lemon from FA Custard so I only use it to make lemon-centric flavors. Works well @3% with a bit of FA Lemon Sicily and 1% FLV Cream.
I know it varies, but is there a "go to" start % for the fruit with this?
That's dependent on the flavor. Some stuff doesnt taste well above 1% and some stuff doesnt well til you get above 3% lol. This is a good place to start. And here's a good read on single flavor testing.
My favorite fast steep custard -
Fa forest fruit 3%
Inw lemon mix 0.25%
Jf biscuit 1.25%
Inw custard 3%
Diyfs holy vanilla 1.5%
That looks really interesting! Would you use INW Biscuit or Cap Sugar Cookie or FA Cookie as a sub for the JF Biscuit? Never thought to use my forest/berry mixes with custard, I have a few random ones that might work. Cheers mate
Is FlavorWest Vanilla Custard any good? I’m super super new to this and want to start with a good vanilla.
I've got some mixed up that I'm going to try later this week but I don't have high hopes. There has to be a reason why you don't see it used in any recipes, unlike other vanilla custards.
So anyone have any thoughts on that One Drop Custard yet? I cant seem to make up my mind about it aside from how weak it is.
Have some steeping but haven’t tried it yet. What % did you mix it?
Tried it at 8% and have it steeping, seem to have different feelings about it every time I give it a taste. Also mixed some with sugar cookie and ODF vanilla to experiment and it turned out ok, but I think cap sugar cookie is carrying most of the weight in the recipe. Seems like the custard and vanilla kind of just moistened it up and added some extra butter flavor and texture. My pallet isn't all that developed yet so I struggle sometimes to identify exactly what I'm tasting.
Vanilla ruyan custard, was given a primer on here from someone who's name I have forgot, is the sleeper of all custards.
I've never seen anyone other than this individual mention it. But it is creamy, eggy, and caramel all in one go. And you get it within 24hrs of mixing! This is definitely the best for snv custards.
I mixed a simple 1-2-3 with some pecans. It was divine after a day. Don't think itll last the month, i know nuts benefit from a long wait... Recipe as follows:
3% wf vanilla ruyan custard 2% cap butter pecan 1% cap pecan
Agreed. WF Vanilla Ruyan Custard is delicious. I don't really get that eggy custard thing from it but it's so tasty I'm not mad at it for that.
