Has anyone else tried Hangsen 5? I kind of hated it at first. Now I love it.

Editing because I might need to put something “here.”

So - I totally hated Hangsen 5. I thought it would be like RY4. It’s not even close. It’s salty, a little harsh, and kind of like Hangsen Indian Tobacco.

After I got used to it, now I like it.

Also - it has no flavor when first mixed. Second day has some flavor. After about a week - bam!

No. 5 is on my list of tobaccos to mix. I plan to try 6% for a single flavor after reading that others typically use 5-7%.

Most reviews mention a nutty tone, but I haven't seen anything about saltiness before. What percentage do you use?

I generally steep HS tobaccos for 2 weeks. They seem pretty much mature at this point.

I am doing 8 percent with another 1 percent of WS-23. I think I could likely go down a percent or two and not notice the difference. I think this is more true now since I started squonking. Having a constantly wet wick seems to make the flavor come out.

Wait... what? WS-23 with a tobacco? You like chewing tobacco out of the freezer?

I think I see where you’re coming from with salty. The closest comparison I’d make is INW Tobacco Symphony, which also has a sort of salty nutty feel to it. I’ve been really digging the No. 5 with FLV Red Burley to make a bit of a nuttier Burley.

Yea. I haven’t mixed it with Burley yet - but that sounds like a nice mix. Nutty- totally- that is the word I was looking for, kind of nutty/salty.

Hmm. So have you tried #5 with Tobacco Symphony yet?

Haven’t tried that yet. Lately I’ve been grabbing No 5 in the places i would usually grab Symphony just so I don’t overdo it with the Symphony. Might just give it a go though.

I've been meaning to get it, mostly because CBV vouches for it. I find, when it comes to tobacco at least, to trust him in all things is the way to go.

I'm sorry, but this is the worst flavor review I've seen on this subreddit. At least tell us what concentration of it you tried.

It was reported for "Not a flavor review" but I approved rather than removed it because there are already some good comments here and because a flavor review is better than no flavor review. Maybe you could give us just a little more information, though?

Sorry. I fixed it in the comments. I should have fixed it in the post. Here’s a more detailed review:

It was/is:

70vg/30pg 8 percent Hangsen 5 1 percent Koolada 15 mg nicotine

There was basically no flavor when mixed. Just the koolada feel. Next day, some salty/nutty flavor. Flavor continues to improve over next week.

It’s not sweet like RY4.

After it steeps, it has a rich smooth flavor kind of like Indian Tobacco or Burley, but there’s not any one flavor note that stands out except for hazelnut or peanut and maybe flu-cured tobacco. It also has a slight chocolate flavor. There’s also a maple note. They are all subtle.

I looked up the SDS and the nutty flavor is caused by Acetylpyrazine. The flu-cured tobacco is caused by Neophytadiene. The cocoa flavor is from Tetramethylpyrazine. The maple is from Cyclotene.

Interestingly, there’s also a slight amount of nic in this flavoring.

For me, what I like is that no one flavor is overpowering. RY4 tastes too much like caramel vanilla for me. Hangsen 5 is a complicated flavor that is more than the sum of its parts.
