Weekly 'Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors' Thread - Week of March 09, 2018
submitted over 7 years ago by AutoModeratorBootylicious

Got a bunch of flavors but not sure how to make them work together? Post your list here, and our team of semi-professional mixologists will make suggestions for you! Don't forget to include manufacturers' names for all of your concentrates, and make your list easier to read by using bullet points or at least listing each of your flavors on a new line by hitting return twice after each flavor.

Impatient and want to do this on your own? /u/daath has a nice website that has this functionality, but you will need to register to make it work. It is not very intuitive but if you work with it you can input your flavors and get a list of recipes that you can make. To get this to work, first set up an account. Then add your flavors to the stash (under my page / my flavor stash). Hit save. Then go back to the front page and click the link next to the search field, "Search by flavor stash." You can select a couple of your flavors and recipes that have those will pop up.

Happy Mixing!

I just made my first diy order. Main goal is to find a suitable replacement for Pinky from Mitten, which is a pink starburst flavor. I struggle terribly with juices, I have 2 ADVs out of 200+ flavors tried.

Going to be coming up with a bunch of different variants to find a winner, but would love some input on places to start with what I got:

Edit: future purchase ideas also welcomed, I just got all 10mls to start to work on something.

FLV Candy Roll

CAP Lemon Lime

RF SC Pink Burst

FA Strawberry (red touch)

CAP Strawberry Taffy

FA Marshmallow

FA Meringue

CAP Sweet Watermelon

INW Cactus

CAP Vanilla whipped

TFA Vanilla Swirl

Just looked up Pinky, i have no idea what starburst tastes like, but if it's candied strawberry i think you'd be better off with TPA's Strawberry (the normal one, not ripe) and CAP Sweet Strawberry, although i haven't tried CAPs strawberry Taffy.

Is Pinky REALLY sweet?

Maybe try:

FA Strawberry @3%

CAP Strawberry Taffy @4%

FLV Candy Roll @1%

FA Marshmallow @1%

CAP Lemon Lime @.5% (maybe less?)

TFA Vanilla Swirl @1% (maybe leave this out)

CAP Super Sweet - From 0% to 1% depending on how sweet Pinky is.

Not super sweet, more of a tangy bite finish to a candy strawberry. Does well on coils too for a candy.

Thanks man :)

No problem, just make sure you shake the shit out of it and let it sit for some time. If it's not good right away maybe give it a few days and try it again.

Btw, i have a Wasp Nano and a Squeeze coming in because of you haha

Nice to see you around!

*edit: and CAP Super Sweet is well.. super sweet, go slow with it.

Considering both of your creams require a hazmat disposal site, rather than recipes...

I mean, if you really want to put on a respirator while you mix, and are willing to steep for four months until they don't suck as much, ok...

I guess you could try the Greek yogurt with raspberry sweet. Maybe add 3% wild cherry or some rose candy. ..

by Der-Pinguinover 7 years ago

Lemon, orange, or pineapple would be a good one if you wanna shake up the flavoring a bit.

Blueberry would be good if you wanna stay close to the flavor profile of the original.

Also i typically use the coconut extra, but that LB coconut milk sounds like a good substitute. Whats the flavor on it like compared to coconut extra?

TFA- Strawberry ripe

TFA- Grape candy

2 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Circus Cotton Candy is supposed to have a horrible off taste - black licorice. So that's out.
Bavarian Cream has that unfortunate vanilla element.
And coconut and grape aren't known to go together, but that's about the only thing other than single flavors of both that I could see mixing. Now, if you had HS Italian Cream and or FA Fresh cream... that could work with your coconut. As could some double chocolate clear. Or tfa white chocolate. A strong enough orange may work to cover the off taste of the cotton candy. Some FA Fuji would go well with the grape candy.

3 points

by H0tTamal3over 7 years ago

I like TPA Circus Cotton Candy. I've never gotten a black licorice taste from it.

0 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Like I said, it's supposed to have that. I researched the flavor before buying, hence didn't buy. And either way... 10+% ethyl vanillin is pretty disgusting anyway.

2 points

by Der-Pinguinover 7 years ago

I was thinking of adding some form of bubblegum to the cotton candy, got any recommendations for a good bubblegum flavoring?.

Ill def try out one of the creams you recommended, and ill get some orange since i want a citrus flavor

2 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

I saw a recipe a while back for old school bubblegum flavor. Basically it was cinnamon, vanillin, some sort of citrus, and a fourth flavor I can't remember, mint maybe.... was based on the original recipe for actual bubblegum flavoring. Basically they all sort of cancel each other out or something, and just taste like gum...

My four areas I focus on are fruits, beverages, tobaccos, and florals. And I'm really new to the last two. I've mixed a few candy flavors from time to time for friends, but it's not something I concentrate on. Sorry.

If memory serves... lychee and kiwi should work together. So those two in a lemonade should go well.

Otherwise I'd try the sparkling wine with the lychee and some pineapple.

2 points

by hookedonponicsover 7 years ago

any percentage recommendations? I have used kiwi in the past and I kept it around 0.5 - 2%. I haven't honestly used sparkling or pineapple yet.

i'll give kiwi and lychee a run.

2 points

by juthincover 7 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Honestly, I only have two or three LA flavors, sparkling wine isn't one. BUT I didn't see tfa Champagne, or Kentucky Bourbon and Toasted Marshmallow, so I had to substitute. Do a SFT... mix 8%, use half of that to make a 4%, and use half of that to make a 2%. I'm guessing 4-5% would probably be right, but it's tough to predict how concentrated a flavor is. I'd have to look in my notes (which are elsewhere) to see what I have on the pineapple. Not something I really use these days. Eventually..

Omg, don’t throw out your dx stuff or your yellow cake it’s delicious! Just know the dx stuff takes a lot longer to steep most times.. as far as your flavors you’ve got a nice selection. I’m not great at offering up specific recipes so I won’t pretend to be I just wanted to counter the last comment. True, Jf yellow cake is a good sub but not always available to everyone. Use our flavorwiki it’s awesome and read up on the reviews there for your flavors and you’ll start to get a better idea what works and why and always single flavor test everything to really get to know them.. this hobby is a lot of work but it’s a lot of fun, very rewarding and a great community of ppl so welcome and congrats on not smoking! That’s the best part!

Might as well throw out:

DX Sweet Cream, definitely one of the most disgusting flavors I've ever encountered.

I haven't tried the DX Marshmallow to suggest throwing it out, but it's suspicious.

Haven't tried Sugar Cookie V2 but I hear it's pretty good with a healthy steep. CAP Vanilla Custard V2 is, regardless of what I have said about it in the past, not too shabby at all. Just be prepared to steep anything you put it in for at least a month.

I wouldn't say throw away the FW Yellow Cake, but maybe when you run out of it, try JF Yellow Cake instead, if not for your health, then at least for your coils and cotton.

Thank you for taking the time to reply so thoroughly.

I've just started to single flavour test my concentrates, starting with the most obvious top notes, and found out that the one strawberry I always hated in commercial juice is TFA Strawberry (the fake strawberry/candy/jam flavour, excuse me while I develop a better vocabulary to describe stuff). All I know so far is that I like ripe and red touch.

Three questions if you don't mind.

  1. I've tried a recipe very similar to yours for a creamy strawberry but with ripe instead (7% ripe, 7% TFA VBIC, 1% Super Sweet). I love it but I really want the strawberry to pop more, maybe in a tart/tangy way, and the cream base to be a little heavier/thicker while staying fresh, like heavy whipped cream, no more vanilla. I'm already at 15% flavouring in that recipe so I don't think the answer is to add more ripe, but probably to layer it with another strawberry and another cream base, or some additives. Any ideas for a starting off point?

  2. What would you recommend as an alternative for TFA Strawberry in the first recipe? Or more generally, is substitution mostly a matter of figuring out the ratios between different-maker-same-name-flavours, strawberry in this case, or will I find that different strawberries will interact with the VBIC (or another cream, bottom) in different and unexpected ways?

  3. I made your Mother of God's Milk a couple of days ago, waiting for it to steep. This was before I realized TFA Strawberry is the one I don't like, but still excited to taste it as whole. So really same question as number 2,

I suspect I can answer some of these myself over time with single flavour testing. I am currently working on that, but it's going to take me a while to get through my inventory, I've just started with the obvious top notes and working my way through about 5-6 at a time over the course of ~10 days each batch to see how they develop.

Other than that thanks again, I will base my next order on your suggestions above. The rest of the stuff I need for Coco de Leche is arriving tomorrow and I reaaaally need to grab some LA Lemonade (I hate the FLV Lemonade I have, it reminds me of a perfume or cosmetics, vaping it takes me back to waiting for hours for my wife when she goes to Mac or Sephora).

I'm going to use the FW YC I have just to see if I like it or not and if so grab some JF YC.

How's about 2-3% FA red touch (if that's the strawberry one), 4% strawberry ripe. Lower the vbic to 4% and top up with your cream of choice? Be sure to mix a tester of the old one at the same time and then you can directly compare them :)

You're not alone in disliking TFA Strawberry. I've heard it described as crayon flavored.

  1. Several things you can try. Add some FA Cream Fresh and/or FLV Cream and/or FA Vienna Cream use less TFA VBIC, add 1% TFA Dragonfruit for a tarter/tangier strawberry, and/or take out some of the Ripe and replace it with FA Red Touch, and/or get some INW Shisha Strawberry because it will very likely change your strawberry life. Also if you if you want it to pop in less tart/tangy way and more in an extra ripe, bloody way, try 1% FW Hazelnut instead or in addition to any of these other things. Except the Dragonfruit, don't do both Dragonfruit and Hazelnut at the same time, that probably won't go well.

2 and 3) You will indeed "find that different strawberries will interact with the VBIC (or another cream, bottom) in different and" often unexpected ways. But if you're looking for a candy strawberry like TFA but not TFA, try CAP Sweet Strawberry or better yet JF Sweet Strawberry. You won't be able to just 1:1 sub those out or even have them work as subs in every situation, but you can find recipes that use them or build your own.

Throw out the DX stuff. And I'd toss the Yellow Cake as well. If you're scared of DAAP you should be terrified of vaping that YC. You can replace it easy enough with JF's version.

Looks like you have the ingredients for /u/ID10-T 's original Strap-on and probably several of the variants. Given that I hate strawberries and don't like watermelon vapes, I can't suggest which is best of them, tho.

I'm guessing you've already tried Leche de Coco (I'm not sure, it looked like you have the ingredients that I remember.)

I'm going to guess you're not into straight fruit flavors, since you're missing the good berries, but if I'm wrong, you seem to be missing LA Lemonade, CAP sweet tangerine, any of the Lime flavors, a Pomegranate and a black currant. And I'm sure /u/ID10-T would suggest 3 or 8 mango flavors, starting with FLV. (And the complete lack of florals and tobaccos, should you choose to change those, I'll leave to /u/hocuskrokus and /u/chemicalburnvictim - respectively - to help you develop your shopping list,)

I'm waiting for a couple of things to arrive for Leche de Coco.

I need to grab that lemonade and some lime, don't really like the FLV lemonade I have. I'm mostly into strawberry, watermelon and apple when it comes to fruit, I like mango and peach too but haven't really experimented with them much. Would like to try new things though so I'll have a look at what I could make with what you mentioned.

Thanks for the info and taking the time to go through my list, I try to avoid DAAP so I won't be using YC.

Well, unlike DAAP, vaping fructose is actually bad. So good call.

Maybe a blavk currant cactus absinthe cocktail sort of thing. Black currant should be able to stand up to the absinthe...

yeah it does, i've tried the black currant with absinthe and it was fairly tasty, didn't think to add cactus to it though! I should add that to everything going forward! thanks for the reply!

A little cactus is always good in a beverage profile mix. A lot of cactus... that's more suited to specialty mixes. And in this case, the other flavors are strong enough for the cactus to go fairly high without being too noticeable as a flavor...

I’m really interested in TFA Horehound. I’ve enjoyed horehound candies in the past but never thought to look for a horehound vape flavoring. It makes me wonder what the potential of that to add depth to cream recipes at low %s would be. I’m a big fan of juices that have a depth that you can’t identify if no one tells you what it is. Let me know what you think of it.

I did a horehound/orange/absinthe mix, was OK, the orange though ruined it for me as it tasted like a cleaning product?! No I don't tide anymore ;)

Vaping Tide pods is sooooo three months ago. I’ve moved on to vaping hand sanitizer.

Cactus and Kiwi is a great combination. Try 5% TFA Kiwi Double + 0.75% Cactus+ 0.5% each INW Pear, TFA Koolada, and CAP Honeydew Melon.

that does sound delicious! funny thing is, i've used Kiwi allot but never as the main flavor profile, always in the back and at low %' s! This sounds like a good opportunity to see how it shines as the main, thanks mate for the suggestion!

Hey all, I am thinking of going for some Inawera tobaccos which I found available near me. Sadly ordering Flavorah would be too expensive for me right now but I have read nice things about Inaweras.I have read the tobacco megathread but I don't know if I can just get the ones I find most appealing and hope for the best, although that would probably work.

The tobaccos(and others) I am thinking about are:

INW Dromedary- Pyramid

INW Classic Royal Tobacco

INW Tobacco DNB

INW Desert Voyager

INW Perique Black

INW Cavendish type

INW Flue Cured

INW Classic RY0

INW 7 leaves

INW Sahara

INW Morning Rain

INW Classic Cigarilos

INW Gold Ducat

INW Tobbaco C

INW Nugat

INW 555 Gold Tobacco

INW Nutty Princess

I am looking for simple profiles, 2-4 flavourings. Should I also look into getting some AP cause I like nutty flavours a lot.

My profile is mostly vanilla, nutty not overly sweet tobaccos.

Cheers guys!

I just mixed this to try and I like it off the shake... steep will make a good juice better, I'd mix two and steep one for a few days while you vape the other... good luck

Is that your list of flavors? If so, it matters where they're from. Otherwise, you really should reply directly to the post you were suggesting the combo to... although that's a fairly odd combination to suggest.

I got it sorted out last night.

I appreciate you taking the time to type this up. It means a lot to me.
