OK mixers, this is your thread to ask any questions you want of the DIY eJuice community. All posts are allowed, but we still encourage you to use the sidebar and search features before asking any questions.
- Placing your first DIY order and want to make sure you have all you need?
- Not sure about how to mix your first bottle?
- Want to get started but aren't sure how?
- Any other questions? ... then this is the thread for you. FWIW, the answers to the first three questions will eventually be found in the wiki (still in development); link at the top of the page.
Ask away!
I've done some DIY here and there for a while, but I can never seem to get good, strong flavor at my typical wattage and I had some questions that I'm hoping can be answered.
Background:
I have been using a Super Tank Mini with the .5 ohm coils at 40 watts for well over a year now. Excellent flavor and vapor production for me. I use nicotine from Nicotine River, VG from Nicotine River or Bull City Flavors, and PG from Nicotine River or Bull City Flavors. I have about 30 flavors all bought from Bull City Flavors. I use PET bottles to store my juice while it steeps so I know I'm not losing flavor or oxidizing the nicotine much because PET bottles are not oxygen permeable like PE bottles are. When I mix I usually end up between 75/25 and 80/20 for VG/PG, unless a recipe specifically calls for something like 60/40 or 88/12, etc.
Questions:
I struggle to get strong flavor out of juices I make. The juices I make taste good, but the taste isn't "strong". I carefully follow the recipes I find on here, AllTheFlavors, DIYorDie, etc - but the flavor I get out of the juice is almost always weak when compared to juices I buy online. When I buy online, I predominantly get: AwesomeTown line and Get Your Kicks from TheSauceLA during 75% off sales, Dolphin Milk (Blue Raspberry candy) by VanVal Vapor, and Apple Butter by Liquid State (haven't bought this in a long time, it's too expensive and has too much sweetener for my tastes now). All of the aforementioned juices have very strong, distinct flavors. When I mix my own, the flavor is never nearly as strong as what I buy online, even after steeping for 2-3 weeks. Why do I struggle to get good flavor like what I buy online? Is the solution as simple as raising the amount of each flavor in a recipe by 50% (for example)? Doing that would put me close to 30/70 or 35/65, which seems like a ton of flavoring compared to the 20/80 that is typical of juices bought online. Does adding sweetener greatly enhance the flavor? I never add sweetener to my juices and recipes I follow rarely ask for it, but I know there is sweetener in the juices I buy online. Lastly, when I make my own juice I have to raise the wattage of my setup from 40 watts to 45-48 watts to get much flavor, which still isn't as strong as what I buy online is at 40 watts. I believe the flavor is better because the wattage is higher so I'm vaporizing more juice per puff. I like a cool vape though, so I prefer the vape I get at 40 watts.
The TL;DR version of this is: Even when following recipes I find online perfectly, they never match the flavor strength of the juices I buy online. What can I do to fix this? Specific questions and examples are above in the non-TL;DR.
edit: I found this comment from 2 years ago: "Have you tried different VG? Shitty VG will make you the flavor not pop".
I have always used Bull City Flavor's VG, but on Friday I have my first VG from Nicotine River arriving. Is there any truth to the quoted statement above? Anyone have flavor strength issues using Bull City Flavor's VG?
Thank you!
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet in other responses is that DIY ejuice is just different than commercial juice. Everything everyone has said is true. Add to all that info that it just takes a little period of adjustment to get used to diy juice. Make super-flavorful recipes at first and add sweetener if you must. Eventually your taste buds will adjust. Soon those recipes with 6% total flavoring and no sweetener will taste 1000 times better to you than anything you can get commercially.

Thanks for this. I'm 90ml into my 120ml of God's Milk and I can now taste more than just TFA's Cheesecake (Graham Crust). So it tastes better now that the cream and strawberry are in the flavor profile. So it does seem that I am adjusting to the flavoring. I vape 15-20ml a day, so in the last 5 days this went from flavorless, to graham cracker, to a really smooth strawberry cheesecake vape. I do think when I mix it again I will add 1% to both TFA Strawberry and TFA Strawbeery (Ripe) to make it pop a bit better. We'll see how that comes out! Thanks for your response!
Adding too much flavor can actually kill flavor. Especially flavors that contain a lot of EM. And yes, frequently the reason commercial juices taste stronger is the sweetener. Also, fruit flavors rarely need steeping, as they'll lose flavor while steeping. If you're making creams, custards, and/or tobaccos you need to steep. Candy and fruit are usually best off the shake, or a day or two later. Never got VG from BCF, so can't answer that part.
Finally, what's the VG ratio of what you make VS what you buy? Higher VG mixes will be a bit sweeter, but also require a little more power. Higher PG (or PG alternative) mixes will deliver more flavor.
Lastly: throw some WS-23 into your recipes, and you'll get a cooler vape at higher power...
Respectfully, I feel like your first two sentences contradict each other, no? Ethyl Maltol is a sweetener right?
I thought sweetener mutes flavor, which is why I think most recipes state to only add sweetener (if at all) in small amounts / to taste.
Conflicted here... help!
No, EM is an additive. It does increase sweetness, but 'sweetener' in DIY mainly refers to sucralose, which is more potent. EM does more than sweeten a mix, it also mutes flavors. That's why it's used to 'take the rough edges off' of a mix by the pros. Beyond ~.5% of a mix, EM will mute a LOT. And since it's hard to know how much EM is in flavors... (TFA lists a range. For example, Cotton Candy is 10% EM, Toasted Marshmallow is 5-9% EM, etc... but not all companies give that much info.) you really shouldn't use much EM in a mix.
Hey thanks for your response! I like fruit and candy over desert flavors, though I am currently vaping on "God's Milk" from AllTheFlavors which is a strawberry cheesecake. I'll try shorter steeping on fruits and candies to see if it helps. I also did buy some TFA Sweetener with my order from Nicotine River so I can try adding in a small amount (1-2%) sweetener to see if it helps enhance the flavor strength.
Most juices I buy are 80/20 or 30/70, which is close to what I make when I mix my own.
I have a broad question for everyone. What's the number 1 diy trick you wish you had known in the beginning?
Pick recipes you want to try and order the flavors you need for them. My first order was all kinda crazy stuff that sounded good, but I couldn't make much out of them! Also, when they say READ THE SIDEBAR!!!-it's true. Everything you need to get started is there. I still (after 4 months) read that stuff.
I can't think of any DIY tricks that I wish I'd known, but that's probably because I did a lot of reading before I mixed a single bottle. The best advice I've been given is to single-flavor test all of your flavors before using them, preferably at different concentrations to get a feel for their range.
Flavor reviews are awesome, but they're no substitute for personal experience. Use them to decide which flavors you want to test for yourself and a good estimate of what strengths you want to test them at, but not in lieu of testing them yourself.
Go slow. And nothing short of a miracle can save bad juice combos. Research. Not a hobby to get carried away on. Concentrates don’t taste like they’re labeled. Recommendations.
I’m still new btw.
Me too. Literally started a week ago. I'm prepared to waste some money right now on bad recipes or Just stuff I don't like.
I started last October. I pick up little tidbits here and there that make me happy. Someone posted one day looking for an Apple recipe and some more experienced poster suggested Fuji Apple with liquid amber. I stole it and holy moly, is it a good combo. I did near 9 testers of different additives and they aren’t bad but rather I’m enjoying taking it where it wants to go. Looks like it will be a spiced apple cider.
I bought too many flavors that have people wincing when I mentioned them. Hard to find the right ones for a flavor profile when you just don’t know. I’ll post some links I’ve saved that we’re helpful to me.
Generally, buy a 10mL on your first go with a flavor. People's palettes vary greatly, and that flavor everyone is ranting about might not be something you want to have 30-120 mL of. Better to have wasted $2-3 rather than $8-23 just to realize you hate it.
I read about this and still got slightly burned thinking I was saving money buying bulk. Just get a 10mL!
Also, write down everything, even random substitutes/additions or quick mixes. Use dates.
Hey /u/ChemicalBurnVictim,
It looks as though INW Dark for Pipe has gone the direction of Black for Pipe, and all the biggies (BCF, ECigXP, etc) are no longer stocking/restocking it. I just placed an order with Vapers Tek last night to get some Black for Pipe (your fault!) and they don't have it either. Can you reach out to them and see if they will adopt that one too? Heck, if they just carried all the INW tobacco flavors I would just order those exclusively from them since they are being cool and not boycotting tobacco flavors!
Is there ever a drastic change in flavor when you steep the juice? Like completely different than the raw flavor?
Absolutely. I doubted this as well, I mixed up Grack Juice and day 1 test it was kind of nasty, no koolada, day 5 it was soooo good. Cuprian has been my favorite juice so far, day 1 is good but after 5-6 days it is amazing.
Interestingly, I really enjoy Grack Juice the first couple of days, after that it's pretty meh. Taste is subjective etc :)
Hey,
So the wife has said I'm allowed to buy a few more flavours and I'm looking for advice for how to best advance my collection. I only have a few so far, which you can see here:
http://e-liquid-recipes.com/publicstash/160101
I'm keen to get hold of flavours that can be used to enhance those that I already have. For example, I have heard CAP Sweet Strawberry and INW Strawberry Shisha can be paired well with the TFA strawberries. I'm also keen to have access to caramel and hazelnut flavours. I've seen a lot of people saying they like FA Carmel - is that one of the best ones?
I'm regularly browsing recipes, so I have some flavours in mind already... but if anyone has any great recipes that I'm really close to completing I'd love to see them.
-
FA Liquid Amber and also some CAP Double Apple will help the FA Fuji.
-
FA Pear will brighten up your TFA Pear. It also is great for adding wetness without the strangeness of INW Cactus.
-
You will definitely want INW Shisha Strawberry. JF Sweet Strawberry also seems to be a hit among some mixers.
-
INW Raspberry or FA Raspberry to help out your TFA Sweet Raspberry. These 2 flavors are quite different, maybe look into some reviews before deciding.
-
Something like FLV Mango or FA Mandarin to help the FW Blood Orange. (orange is kind of a PITA flavor to work with)
-
Other fruits worth getting IMO:
FA Blackcurrant
INW Grape
FW Blueberry
FA Bilberry (goes great w/ FW Blueberry, do not confuse it with INW Shisha Bilberry unless you like cough syrup)
FLV Pink Guava
FLV Boysenberry
CAP Harvest Berry
FA Kiwi
-
FA Caramel tends to be the go to, but CAP Caramel v2 has it's uses too, and FA Butterscotch helps those flavors shine a bit more. I can't say much for CAP v1, but I've read it has some maple to it.
-
FW Hazelnut is a very popular one, and it mixes relatively well with most flavors. Otherwise TFA Pistachio is interesting with a salty nuance but it doesn't go very well with fruits. FA Almond is a great one too, more texture than flavor to me, but it's a useful ingredient and it has it's place in recipes.
-
Let's see, since you're allowed to maybe splurge a bit and might need a couple more things to get free shipping, here are some things worth considering:
FLV Rich Cinnamon
FA Coconut
CAP Cake Batter
CAP Vanilla Cupcake (I actually prefer the v2 of this one)
TFA Toasted Marshmallow
TFA Kentucky Bourbon
CAP Graham Cracker
INW Biscuit
FA Zeppola
and my personal favorite FA Torrone.
There's likely some gems I've missed here, but you've got a solid list of stuff to look into at least.
Edit: At some point you might also want some Koolada, WS-23, or menthol.
Edit 2: CAP Caramel v2
This is a great list. Thank you for helping OP out. I have a question about Edit 2, have you tried both CAP Caramel V1 and V2 and compared them? I haven't, and I'm wondering if I need the V2. I'm not a fan of V1 as a caramel at all, no problem with it as an ingredient, but it tastes more like maple syrup than caramel to me. Do I just have the wrong V of CAP Caramel?
Hi, thanks so much for your detailed reply. I'm going to do some research into all of the flavours you suggested, but this has given me a lot of inspiration! I had already considered picking up some WS-23 as many are saying this is easier to add to mixes without altering the flavour.
Think I might have to pick up this FA Torrone - I have no idea what it might taste like but somehow I feel I can trust your judgement!
Hey guys, so I’ve been mixing for a few months now and I’ve always been intrigued by steeping mint leaves in a base mixture and straining out the remaining leaves and filtering my liquid. My question is how would I go about doing this successfully? Stuff a few spearmint leaves in a bottle of vg/pg/nic and let it sit in a warm bath for a while then cupboard it for a few more weeks to steep? Is that safe/even worth it?
Edit: I actually found this
> You can distill flavors out this way but you'll end up with a lot of crap that will gunk coils and possibly add health risks.
>Steam distillation is one of the safer methods. There are home distillation kits for under $300. You end up with a hydrosol and need to basically separate the essential oil from the top of the hydrosol mix.
>I have done vanilla. With EtOH it literally takes seconds to extract flavor components. Too long and you will extract gross tasting ones. Vanilla in warm VG works fine but takes longer. You need a thermometer and a way to control heat (sous vide works) and a stopwatch to time it. Keep notes.
>Most plant matter will have some lipids (vegetable oils). Look to see if someone sells that plant oil and that'll tell you if oils are there or not.
>I personally avoid natural extracts unless they're post-washed with a solvent that carries volatile compounds without lipids.
>The gold standard for natural extraction is lyophilization (freeze drying) followed by CO2 supercritical extraction followed by an HFC solvent wash. But this will cost a few grand per liter done professionally.
>Depending on access to lab equipment you could also centrifuge and filter, too.
>Steam is your best friend. Alcohol distillation is another option but EtOH can extract a lot of harsh top notes and also tastes like alcohol.
>I've done ethanol distillation and everything tastes like the flavor plus fresh cut lawn or bitter skin.
So it looks like it’s a “yes but it’s iffy” to do it the way I stated. Will probably keep away from this and see if I can find pre made natural spearmint ejuice
Hi all,
I wanna make Wayne's Hawaiian POG remix (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/51670) but I'm missing the Cap Juicy Orange which he uses at 4%. I have FA Orange and TPA Orange cream instead. I'm thinking of using FA Orange as a sub but not sure at what percentage.. any input?
If you sub FA, you will probably need to lower the percentage to 1.5 - 2%. I don’t think TPA would really work, as the cream would change the entire profile of the recipe.
Agreed for sure, but it might change it for the better.
I'm a beginner, only made one batch of simple recipes and a couple of single flavours for notes so far. I've been told DIY juice can taste a little underwhelming to begin with. The reason being that commercial juice is loaded with sweeteners to make the flavours stronger.
My wife actually really likes the juices I've made, and prefers the lighter taste they have (SNV recipes steeped 1-2 days). She's gone off commercial juice completely. She says the taste is all there, just not being „thrust in her face“ as much as she puts it.
I want that thrust from my juices though, and I will be probably be vaping commercial and DIY side by side at least until I understand recipe composition better and can hopefully create substitutes for the profiles I enjoy vaping.
-
Will my palate adjust to the lighter taste of my DIY juices even though I still vape commercial alongside it?
-
If I want my juices to be comparable to commercial juice, for example if I mix a batch for a friend, is it really only/mostly about sweetener?
-
Is it a general rule that I can make my flavours pop more (or more simply put just have more taste) with adding a little super sweet or something similar to them?
-
Am I thinking about this way to soon? Will the flavours pop more after a couple of days? Most of the recipes I mixed up two days ago are SNV, only a couple of creams/custards that I haven't even tasted yet.
- I don't know. Probably not.
- Depends, but a lot of them are stupid high flavor %s and stupid high amounts of sweetener %.
- Depends, you can also mute out your flavors that way, depending on which sweetener you use, how much of it you use, and what other flavors are at play.
- Probably not if they're just fruity flavors.
Maybe try an experiment. Pick one of those juices you've made. Make it again in four batches. One, exactly the same way your wife already likes it (at least you know that one won't go to waste). Two, same flavor percentages, but add 0.25 to 1% sweetener (depending on which one you choose). Three, increase all the flavor %s across the board by 25%, keeping the same ratio, so use 1.25% instead of 1% and 2.5% instead of 2%, etc. Four, same thing, but with some some sweetener. Compare them. Then you'll know whether you're just not that sensitive (yet?) and need more flavors to get the same effect, or whether you're just missing the sucralose, or both.
Thanks for the reply!
> 2. Depends, but a lot of them are stupid high flavor %s and stupid high amounts of sweetener %.
So what purpose does the excessive sweetener serve in commercial juices? Just to make them pop and stand out?
I'll do that experiment after the weekend. The only sweeteners I have are:
- Sweetener (SC) (WF)
- Ethyl Maltol 10%
Should I just use the "average mixing quantity" I find only for each one online to start with?
Lastly, am I missing any useful sweeteners for more variety? I need to place a small order anyway so it would be great to grab them now.
People like dem sugar lips, IDK, it give me a headache and I don't appreciate the coil gore.
So WF Sweetner is really weird and nobody actually knows what's in it. Ethyl Maltol is sweet but not really a sweetener. Small amounts of it can alter juices and make them taste sweeter, but it can also make them taste muted and dull. TFA Sweetener contains both Maltol and Sucralose and can be useful for certain things, but you really want to pick up some FW Sweetener or CAP Super Sweet, whichever your preferred vendor sales. CAP Super Sweet is a little more potent and also contains citric acid (which can make flavors pop to an extent but can also mute them especially after a steep or when too much is used) and a couple of preservatives that might be pretty bad for you (but remember, the dose makes the poison). CAP Super Sweet is in a lot of commercial juices. FW is just sucralose, PG, and water, so you might feel better using that one.
Depends, again. Where are you finding these average mixing quantities? ELR?
> So what purpose does the excessive sweetener serve in commercial juices?
When people test juice flavors at a B&M, the super sweet flavors tend to be 'better' in comparison. Although personally I don't disapprove, for one simple reason - when someone first quits smoking, the taste buds are shot, but choosing as tasty a juice as possible, so that cigarettes taste really bad in comparison, is almost certainly the most effective way to achieve long term success.
> 4. Probably not if they're just fruity flavors.
Most of them are just fruit and some koolada in two of them (I wanted a super crisp exhale with green apple). I did make three with cream just to try them out in a couple of weeks but I don't expect to be really able to dissect them since I have yet to develop an understanding of individual flavours.
When I'm ready to move on I want to learn how to add a mild creamy bottom/carrier to them. The juices I like most are fruity with a creamy assist so to speak.
Is there an inexpensive gadget I can buy to give my bottles a short super intense shake? Something that fits a variety of bottle sizes, maybe even more than one at a time?
I know there are various DIY methods with sawzalls for example, but I'd very much like to be able to just buy something that does the job for like $30.
I used an old erector set motor along with 2 battery banks to make a little contraption that spun the bottle and after a minute or so it was like shaking it. Batteries cost money and my hand works just fine though.
^^^That's ^^^what ^^^she ^^^said
Zip tie your bottle to a sawzall. I use 2 zip ties on a long blade. Juice looks like foam in less than 2 minutes. Make sure the bottle clears the bottom of the saw stroke and start out on slow speed.
If you have a fairly powerful electric motor handy, with a straight shaft, and you're able to bend the shaft ever so slightly... turn it so the shaft is (mostly) upright. Put a soft rubber cap on the end. Turn it on, and you have essentially a homemade vortexor. Press the bottom edge of the bottle to the cap, it should vibrate like crazy and form a tiny tornado looking motion in the bottle. If the bottle has minimal air in it, it's the best mechanical solution other than a paint shaker based contraption. If you have a pulley on the shaft of the only electric motor you have, securing the bottle so it's centered (and will stay in place) would allow you to spin the bottle rapidly about its center, which should work as well.
I made a green apple juice and substituted (FA) Fuji Apple with (CAP) Green Apple at the same percentage.
On ELR, the average and median mixing quantities in recipes is quite higher for the CAP flavouring I used than FA.
Should I have upped the percentage of the substitute? I'm a beginner so I'm not familiar with the flavours, still working on mixing up single flavours to take notes.
The juice is good, although not very flavourful. I can taste the apple but I feel it's too subtle. This is the recipe
Yep, you've got the right idea with the recommended percentages. That is a good rule of thumb. Just keep in mind when substituting, some ingredients with the same name can be extremely different (potentially ruining a mix) from manufacturer to manufacturer.
I just bought my first vape (Smok G priv 2 230w). I also bought batteries (Sony US18650VTC6 3000mAh High Discharge Flat Top) and extra coils for it. I want to make my own juice, so far I bought a scale, pipettes, gloves, 500 ml VG, 500 ml PG, 125 ml of 100mg nicotine, 10 flavors and 23 glass bottles of varying sizes. Is there anything else I need to get started?
You have everything to make your first few batches. You may find you want other things as you go, but you have all the basics covered. Have fun with it; it's a great hobby and helps keep your mind off the stinkies. Soon you won't even miss them! As the other poster said, keep reading the sidebar and come back to the weekly thread as more questions come up.
I bought a bunch of stuff to make some juice... I bought some stuff to make some recipes off of some websites, but I bought a lot of other flavors to try to make my own recipes as well. I also bought a bunch of 10 ml bottles to test single flavors so I can start taking notes. My question is, what percentage should I for these single flavors to test them?
This is my flavor stash link on e-liquid calculator. I also wouldn't mind taking any recommendations on recipes I could whip up! Thanks guys.
Didn't read through your flavor stash, sorry. The best advice is to search the flavor wiki on here and you'll most likely fond reviews. Most reviewers, concrete river for example, will list their results with varying percentages.
I find these to be way more helpful than a standard 3% or whatever as the manufacturer can have vastly different strengths within their own lines, let alone between different companies.
Another plus is that u/Concrete River frequently reviews a lot of the more unusual flavors that you probably won't find on elr or atf.
Any reason you didn't go for strawberry or strawberry (ripe)? Also RFSC marshmallow isn't the one commonly used, and it's quite different. You could use that Cheesecake Graham Crust with a bit of biscuit to create a nice pie crust though...
I would try:
4% TPA Cheesecake (Graham Crust)
1% INW Biscuit
1% TPA Graham Cracker (Clear)
1.25% FA Cream Fresh
then layer whatever fruit you want on top.
If you were looking for some things to add, i would definitely pick up some staples:
TPA Bavarian Cream
CAP Vanilla Custard V1 or V2
INW Custard
INW Shisha Strawberry
TPA Strawberry (Ripe)
FLV Cream
INW Shisha Vanilla
FW Blueberry
FA Lemon Sicily
INW Cactus
should help you really beef out the set you have with a lot more possibilities.
Thank you for the response! I’ll probably pick those flavors up. I’ve had a hard time enjoying custard and cream flavors so far. I know strawberry and cream is a very common flavor of juice, but I just don’t like it. The strawberry is great, but the cream is eh.
What flavor profiles do you prefer:
straight fruit?
beverages?
bakeries?
custards/creams?
tobaccos?
candy?
What counts as staples depends on that... I have zero need for CAP Sugar Cookie, for example. You might find it mandatory. I couldn't live without cooling agents, you might find them useless.
For single flavor testing, if I can't find any information on the flavor that I trust, I start @8% with TFA or 4% for anywhere else, then use half of each tester to create a lower concentration tester, down to .5% and test from weakest to strongest (I dislike rewicking, so...) and stop when it's too strong. So I use maybe .8ml of flavor, or less, total. Otherwise, I go with what the review suggested.
From what I understand, Capella, TFA/TPA, Flavors West, and Jungle Fruits test at 5% and Flavor Arts, Flavorah, Inawera and Rf usually at 2%. But it doesn't hurt to test flavors at multiple %s just to get to know them. People with more experience please correct me if I'm wrong!!
That's fine, but if you do that and the flavor is terrible, don't assume that the flavor is actually terrible, assume first that you've used too much or to little. For example TFA Blackberry 5% will give you nightmares it's so bad. TFA Blackberry 0.75% is nice. INW Rhubarb 2% you will probably die. INW Rhubarb 0.25% is very nice. Lots of exceptions to those rules. Best to first look around and see what other people are doing with the flavors. If you can't find anything, start low and work up. You can always add more if you find the flavor weak. Or start high; you can always dump some out and re-dilute it.
Are there any one shot concentrates sold by US merchants that are decent?
I’ve been searching a lot and everything seems to be in the UK that gets recommended.
Not dealing with Wizard Labs anymore since it seems my card was compromised around the time others were last year...
Brokevaper.ca in canada has one shots, but they're mine so I can't be impartial as to how good or bad they are :P
So, I was trying to input a recipe into ATF, and it wouldn't let me save because there's no supplier on record for WS-5. What's the workaround?
I think you have to use their suggest a flavor feature or whatever.
So basically there's no answer... since it looks like there's a multiple-month backlog of flavors to be added... (I basically cheated. Saved the recipe using VT's 10% WS-23 in place of the Rebranded Range 10% WS-5 from Chef's. If the flavor ever gets added, I can make the fix. Hopefully it doesn't fuck up the stats for the weak-ass WS-23...)
Does anyone have an ADV that contains Blackberry?
I've got one promising one in development. Maybe next month. I want to test some different cooling mixes.
Excellent mate - please keep me informed :)
I'm starting from absolute scratch with Blackberry. I'm thinking of branching 2 ways initially. One way with a Blackberry and LA Lemonade, and the other way with a Blackberry and TFA Greek Yoghurt.
I have TFA/LA/FW Blackberries. None of them smell tremendous which I was a little disappointed with - as I didn't want to just go the route of hiding the blackberry underneath a shitload of blueberry/raspberry/blackcurrant/the usual suspects. I wanted the blackberry to be fairly centre stage.
Well, the it wasn't the central flavor of anything. I suppose it could fit a more prominent role mixing into a hard cider flavor. I should test that. The one I was initially referring to was a mostly citrus blend. Although it was one of the rare occasions I didn't use LA Lemonade for the lemon.
That is actually a flavor I need to play around with more, very tasty and surprisingly realistic.
I only have one recipe saved, not mine, no idea who made it. I wouldn't use it as an ADV with all that DAAP, but it's very tasty IIRC and might inspire you. Looking at it now, I would probably cut everything in half, blackberry is potent, but I'll leave that up to you. And you can sub the creams for whatever you have/prefer.
2% TFA Bavarian Cream
2% FA Bilberry
4% TFA Blackberry
2% CAP French Vanilla
2% CAP Sweet Cream
5% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Plum smugglin is pretty good
> Plum smugglin
Thanks a lot - I didn't realise Kentucky Bourbon and Toasted Marshmallow had a thing going on. Here's the link to Plum Smugglin
I've seen INW Plum come up 3 times in the last couple of days. That's going on the next order with Kentucky Bourbon.
Is there a different way to go about making juice for mtl? Like those with high nicotine? Also, is it fine to use freebase nic for around 9mg if the intent is for strict mtl draw? or will it be too rough?
So I ordered the flavors I need to make some Grack that I had about a year ago, with a couple issues.
Firstly, the website I order from didn't have the raspberry (Malina concentrate), so I ordered some shisha raspberry INW. I don't know if it is a viable substitute, or if I should reduce or increase the percentage I use with it it just not use it at all...
Secondly, they didn't have the INW grapes that it calls for, so I ordered grape FW. Don't know how this will turn out but I guess I'll have to deal with it for now. I'm wondering though how much of a difference this will make.
Thanks for any and all feedback!
I’m pretty sure that grape sub won’t work at all... might have better luck with the raspberry sub tho.
Do you think the grape FW will be too powerful or too weak? Or just a completely different flavor profile?
Apparently I was mistaken, and was thinking of FW grape soda so perhaps ELR reviews or the Noted podcast will help you out.
Question about alcohol based flavors
When aging/steeping a mix that uses flavorah for example, is breathing or steeping with the cap off necessary? Will the alcohol work it’s way out of the mix regardless?
FLV flavors are not all alcohol based. So there’s that to think about. Only a handful of flavors across all the main brands contain small amounts of EA. Breathing is not recommended at all. The alcohol is not the only thing that will escape the bottle. Just steep normally.
Breathing a mix is bad. And other than a few flavors each, most manufacturers don't use alcohol in their flavors in much of a concentration. The SC concentrates from China are largely alcohol, tho.. Alcohol will evaporate out of a mix into the headroom in the bottle. When you open it to use it, the alcohol will dissipate. Don't worry.
Any recommendations for a heated magnetic stirrer? Price range 100-150
I would save your money and buy something actually useful. Those things aren't necessary at all.
Well tired of the old milk frothier for 500 ml batches think it would be cool to have
Both are bad. Get a paint shaker. Or.. how good of a handyman are you? And do you have access to a four tooth lathe chuck? If so, I could give you instructions for how to make a vortexor, which is probably the best way to agitate a mix, as it minimizes mixing oxygen into the liquid.
Can anyone please help me with a coffee recipe I love sweet caramel lattes from coffee shops and would love a simple recipe to make my own juice. iv also just subbed so I’m new plz be kind I’m still learning.
Have you ever vaped a coffee juice and liked it?
Where do you live?
Gday yes I live near Albury and there’s this juice to die for it’s called coffee licious
Hi! So I have been trying to get a decent "cool" watermelon e liquid down. I currently have LA Watermelon, TFA Watermelon, and FE Lemon. Also have some Koolada, sucralose & EM.
I am vaping a mix now of 8% LA watermelon, 1% sucralose, 1% koolada and a drop of lemon per 10ml. It is pretty decent, I really like the flavor I am getting, but would prefer it to be a little stronger.
Anyone have and good idea of what percentages I could mix these flavors I have at? Want to use LA and TFA, or just LA by itself. Prefer koolada, but if I can get decent flavor, sweeter is not nessecary. Thanks so much.
Melon is inherently kinda weak, you might need a more potent brand to give you that punch, such as FLV, INW or FA. But there's no harm in trying, say, 4% TFA in that mix, see what it does. I can't be specific as I don't have those concentrates myself.
Koolada and lemon can have some muting properties. And if you mix with less than 20% PG, bump that up a bit.
Thanks for the reply! I am normally mixing a 75/25! I am going to try your suggestion at adding 4% TFA and see how it is here soon. I am also going to order multiple watermelon flavorings and give them a try to see which one I like best! It is normally my ADV and all I vape.
Right now I have FA, FLV, Both sweet watermelon and double from CAP and INW in my cart - any other suggestions?
Someone asked last week, check this post for some replies. Especially my links.
I personally didn't like this mostly because it just tasted like a cold (possibly cryogenic) watermelon candy, and I'm not that big a fan of watermelon candy. But you may like it.
So I’m thinking of an Apple ice cream.... have been debating on how to do this for a few days. Maybe hints of cinnamon too.
I have... vanilla bean ice cream cap & tfa. Fuji tfa. Caramel and cinnamon danish swirl cap. Just debating on percentages here. I don’t want any overpowering apple, just a nice cinnamon apple with hints of caramel with a vanilla bean ice cream base... anyone make something similar.
3% VBIC, 1% Fuji, 0.25-0.5% CDS, optional 1% Caramel. Just pulling numbers out of my behind here to give you some idea, but that's where I'd start. The real question is TFA or CAP VBIC, they are quite different.
Edit: Pondering that a bit, I think I'd prefer to tone the VBIC down a bit, add in a lighter cream, but above all a juicier apple. I love Fuji, but it's not very refreshing. Something like INW Shisha Apple or CAP Double Apple to back the Fuji up with some brighter notes. And something sweet, since it's ice cream. I'd skip the caramel and either use sweetener or marshmallow, possibly marzipan. The first response would be okay, for what you listed, but these changes would make it shine, IMO.
8% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, 3% Fuji Apple (assuming you meant FA and not TFA), 1.5% Cinnamon Danish Swirl.
CAP Carmel tastes like maple syrup, I would leave it out.
Hey all,
I'm set on the idea of making some DIY juice, and have two goal recipes to aim for. Firstly, a Pistachio Ice Cream (for myself) and secondly, a Cigarette-esque Tobacco (for my dad).
I know roughly what to buy RE supplies through trawling this sub, but would appreciate some flavour recommendations for those two recipes. Anyone got any suggestions for a starting point?
I'm based in the UK and a link to a site which does UK shipping would be ideal :)
If you want to order everything from the same place, let me know which site you decide to go with and I will browse their tobacco selection and throw out some ideas for you.
I'm not from the UK, and I've still ordered from Chef's repeatedly. For a cigarette mix, /u/chemicalburnvictim is the guy to ask.
As far as suppliers go, there is a good list here on the third table. There is also rainbowvapes which seem to have quite a good selection, good prices and cheaper delivery.
I've been having real difficulty setting up my first order. Thanks for this, somehow I didn't come across it before. Broke my heart trying to set up the basics from 3 different suppliers.
Edit: actually, I'm at about the same situation. This 20mg/ml nicotine shot phish is not looking all that well.
Edit2: Everything liquid does a good concentration/size and VG is cheaper than at Chefs. On the other hand, Chefs restocked supplies so I'm scrapping my old shopping list and downsizing to 2 suppliers. I can make it!
It is a pain, especially if you have to pay postage from each supplier on top of everything. I was going to suggest darkstar for nic shots but rainbowvapes has the same price, will have to pick some up myself when I place an order in the next few days.
The other thing you might come across is rebranding. Chefsflavours, for example, change Lorann to Lauren and something else to Flavour Creative. I think darkstar rebrand one or two as well so perhaps they do actually have what you need?
Feel like I'm missing something really obvious but how do you add recipes to your favourites on alltheflavors?
When viewing a recipe you wish to add click on the white border star next to the recipe name and it should turn solid gold signifying that it is now in your favorites.
The only star I can see is to follow the mixer, that's not the one you mean? Is it a feature of the paid version?
Hey guys, can you suggest some good vendors to get nicotine from in Australia with decent pricing?
Monk Fruit Extract- why is this not popping up more ? Looks like it would be the perfect sweetener in a lot of mixes.
I think the answer to this is that Nude Nicotine is the only place that sells it in a form ready to be vaped. Most people don't order from them anymore with how comical their shipping times are. I'm not sure if their shipping times are any better if you would just order extracts though.
Most powders have anti-caking agents to prevent clumping. You want to avoid vaping those things. You could buy this version that doesn't have anything added but it's $25 for 3.5 ounces of powder.
TLDR: The cost and only NN sells it.
So.. 100g can make 1l of 10% solution, correct? Doesn't sound terrible when you look at it that way.
I may have to check to see if anyone local would be interested in splitting the costs some...
9 grams of PG with 1 gram of Monk Fruit Extract would make a 10% dilution for a 10ml bottle. How much you add depends on the total volume you want to make. You would also have to look at the solubility of MFE and see how much you could add to it before it wouldn't dissolve anymore.
Is FW Cotton Candy one of the CC flavors that's 10% ethyl maltol?
EDIT: Also, does anyone have any really good candy flavor recipes they can recommend? Trying to find that 1 recipe that really pops.
Hey all, I have a few flavors I want to turn into something tasty. Could you recommend some percentages? I'm going for a strawberry frosted Graham cracker or a dry strawberry cereal maybe. CAP Strawberry Tardy, FA strawberry, TFA strawberry ripe, CAP cereal 27, TFA rice crunchies, FW Graham cracker, FA Vienna cream, TFA sweet cream CAP vbic , LA cream cheese icing, FA fresh cream. Thanks!!
Dry Strawberry Cereal - try as a starting place: 3% FA Strawberry, 3% Strawberry Ripe, 3% CAP Cereal 27, 1% FW Graham Cracker. This would be better if you had some TFA or FA Meringue.
Strawberry Frosted Graham Cracker - try as a starting place: 3.5% FW Graham Cracker, 1.5% LA Cream Cheese Icing, 1.5% CAP Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, 3% FA Strawberry, 2% CAP Strawberry Taffy.
Chubby Bubble Razz Clone So I looked all around the web for this particular flavor and every site gave me the same recipe:
Bubblegum (TFA) - 6% Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy (CAP) - 3% Sweetener (TFA) - .5%
I followed this recipe to the letter and I'm getting a strong bubblegum flavor but like a "dentist office bubblegum" if you could imagine that (tastes bad).
Anyway, I'm wondering if this has to do with steeping? I don't taste the blue razz at all and that's what I need the most. I figured that it wouldn't taste exactly like it but with so many websites telling me the same flavors and percentages for a certain clone I figured it would resemble it in some way.
TFA Bubblegum isn’t that great. I prefer a combo of LA Bubblegum and Ethyl Maltol.
Well I bought the exact recipe and several different diy recipe websites all showed exactly what I put in. Do you think the steeping has anything to do with it? I literally just made them a few hours ago and rn I'm letting them breathe. Maybe letting it breathe will dilute the bubblegum and enhance the blue razz (which I don't taste at all, only bubblegum)
Never let your mixes breathe. That’s only for off-gassing flavors that contain alcohol. Which you don’t even need to do, because that alcohol won’t be the only thing that evaporates.
What do you mean you “bought” the recipe? It’s very rare for somewhere to have a vendor’s exact recipe for a juice. Which means it probably isn’t.
Just received my first DiY supply shipment and I'm feeling confident about the first few recipes I plan to make. I know that a lot of mixing is subjective, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips concerning steep times and storage for dessert juices.
I won't be making any fruit, menthol, tobacco, or juices with additives/sweeteners. Just cakes/pastries/creams/cookies/cereal vapes. I'm shooting for 70vg/30pg -80vg/20pg range.
I know that steep times vary for different flavor profiles, so do I have anything to worry about when it comes to steeping dessert/bakery juices?
Any tips for a first-timer making juices along this kind of flavor profile would be very much appreciated. I've made a profile on the ejuice recipes website and have been taking notes from there. Thanks!
Without seeing the specific concentrates you have, it’s going to be difficult to help.
hopefully this works: https://imgur.com/a/qqQDX
this is a list of everything i bought. the strawberry and banana are a request for someone else.
Maybe something like:
CAP Sweet Strawberry 5% FA Meringue 1% FA Vienna Cream 1.5% TFA Banana Cream 2.5%
It would need to steep at least a week, most creams need a while to really settle in. The FW Yellow Cake is generally considered unsafe for vaping because it contains it contains Fructose, which is not safe for inhalation.
Don’t be afraid to use a bit of CAP Super Sweet, but a little goes a long way. Most of the time, .1 - .3% is plenty, but don’t use it until you have mixed a recipe and given it a chance to have a good steep. It can definitely enhance your mixes, but isn’t always necessary.
Also, here is a simple recipe that’s very nice. It calls for CAP Sugar Cookie V1, but I’m fairly sure you can sub your V2 in. You may need to adjust the percentage though, I’m not sure if that’s necessary, but I have no experience with V2.
Maybe u/ID10-T can clarify.
Is FE Lemon the same as SC Lemon by SuperConcentrated?
Got me some SC Lemon so I'm hoping it's the right stuff. I have JF Juicy Lemon but so far only tried it in a mix with JF Sweet Strawberry and it was dry AF.
No? Why would it be the same?
I thought it might be the same as VZ SC Lemon. I thought VZ, FE, and SC are all the same Chinese alcohol based concentrates, just relabelled by vendors.
Some of them are. The consensus is that it depends on where you are getting them. I wasn’t aware so I apologize for my trite reply, but VZ SC and SC from BCF are the same. FE may or may not be, depending on where it’s from.
JF Juicy Lemon is actually really good, though.
So just got in my first order of vg pg and nic. I read up on storage and decided to seperate the nic up in amber glass bottles and store it in the fridge in a bag. However, I didnt shake up the nic in its original container before separating it into the bottles.
Is it likely that the nic wasnt well mixed up? Like, likely enough that I should consolidate them and mix, then re split them up? Or nothing to worry about
Edit: should have mentioned the nic is 48 mg/ml and full pg
Is there a website that lets me input my currents flavors and tells me what recipes I can make?
If i mix up some juice, allow it to steep, try it, and decide it's missing something, can i add more flavorings to it? or is it better to scrap the batch and try again next time?
There's no harm in experimenting, you'll always learn something from it. What you might find is that you need to steep the mix again to make it tolerable. It might also be great, but when you try to recreate it, the results aren't quite the same. Could also be perfect. Or terrible. Depends on the recipe and what you add to it.
TL;DR - Maybe. Depends. Try it and see.
It's possible. However, it's unlikely you kept accurate enough records to do it properly. If you have a record of how much the full mix's gross weight, then you can determine the percentage that you've used, so you can accurately determine the effect of the change in flavor.
If you only made a 30ml tester of 3mg, it's not like the ingredients likely cost much. Unless you used a lot of Flavor Monks flavors. So really, it's best to just try again.
Also, it depends on what flavor you think is missing. A fruit, maybe a spice, will probably not need any time after adding it to a presteeped mix. Adding a DX flavor? You'll need to wait another month or two until you determine if it was what you wanted.
tl;dr - You could, with a bunch of caveats. So don't.
Anyone have any suggestions for a menthol vanilla juice? A friend of a friend is requesting it but I'm not sure where to start. VBIC? Vanilla swirl? Menthol? Koolada?
If I was gonna use menthol with vanilla I think I'd probably opt for something like a spearmint vanilla combo. In my head it feels like the only kinda mint/menthol/cooling agent that would work with vanilla. I'd probably go something like.....
- CAP spearmint 2%
- TFA French vanilla deluxe 4%
- TFA whipped cream 1%
- TFA koolada 0.25%
My HVAC system needs servicing. My house is normally 75 degrees day and night, but it's warming up outside and I can't turn the AC on ATM and it's been hovering between 80 and 82 degrees during the day. Is this harmful for my chemicals? My nic is in the fridge but my VG, PG, and concentrates are all in a room with blackout curtains that have been stapled to the window seal to help prevent UV rays from entering the room. It's basically pitch black dark in here at 12pm. But is it enough given the daytime temps in my home?
Put your nic in the freezer. The fridge does nothing for that.
Simple question. Can I store my flavoring bottles sideways? I read a post from years ago that the cap may interact with the flavoring but I don't know if there's any truth behind this.
If you don't mind the possibility of yhem leaking...
Note: you probably don't want to take the chance with TFA Honey. Or Perique Black. Or, for a different reason, anything from flavor monks.
Hi all,
I’m looking to mix up a banana milkshake vape, I have TFA Banana Cream, TFA Koolada and TFA VBIC which I think are the obvious base favours. I have a couple of questions. Anything you’d add in small amounts to this to make it better? Cinnamon etc? Secondly what flavour %s do you think would work? I want a noticeable banana flavour above the vanilla and want it really cold.
Banana isn't really my thing, but this recent FOTW post on bananas has a TON of information dealing with banana flavorings.
Hey guys, So I'm waiting for my DIY stuff to come in the mail and just watching videos on how to mix everything well to get a good start. But one question came up about steeping that I haven't found an answer to. Basically the idea is that a decent number of juices reach their prime after 2 weeks of static steeping, that all makes sense but what I don't really get is how exactly do i stop the steeping or just keep the juice in it's prime other than trying to go through it as fast as possible?
You don’t. Unless you want to keep your juice in the freezer. I wouldn’t really be concerned about that. Just don’t make large batches.
So a 100ml is a reasonable batch i presume since companies sell juices in that quantity
Any good non-daap custards out there? Cap vanilla custard v2 is good, but a bit thin... Any suggestions on how to buff it? (Never tried V1)
FA Custard is my go to (~2%). Add some FA Cream Fresh (0.5 - 2%), some FA Marshmallow (0.5%) and maybe a bit of FA Biscuit (0.2-0.5%) to fill it out. If you want to go full deliciousness then add FA Marzipan (0.2-0.4%) and FA Coconut (0.2-0.5%).
It takes a while to steep, but it is worth it. For strawberry custard, just add 2-2.3% INW Shisha Strawberry (though it may contain DAAP)
When mixing with flavors that melt syringes do I need to mix the entire recipe in glass? Or can I use my regular plastic bottles?
EDIT: Ripe strawberry doesn't melt syringes
Ripe Strawberry doesn’t melt syringes
Regardless, the question still stands with other flavors that do
There aren’t any. Ripe Banana has been known to make the plunger in a syringe “stick.” It’s been a long time since anyone has complained or mentioned that flavor melting syringes or pipettes. Whatever ingredient responsible for that only reacts with a specific type of plastic. I’d wager a guess that it’s probably garbage syringes/pipettes that are affected by this.
Regardless, Ripe Banana comes in a plastic bottle.
You won’t be using Ripe Banana for anything, though.
Is there a definite answer to the ultrasonic steeping question? Does it actually mix the liquid throughly? Would one without heat be a good choice? Or should I just keep shaking my bottles like polaroids?
Does anybody know if Mt. Baker Vapor's old Pink Champagne flavor was just the straight FW Pink Champagne extract?
I'm planning up my first real full-recipe DIY order and have been craving that flavor ever since it was discontinued, then saw FW's thing and thought that sounds like a very Mt. Baker thing to do, just plonking in a single flavor and calling it a day. Not that I'd mind, that would make a clone super easy lmao.
99.99 % the same.
Hey noob here
I've seen a deal online for 1L of PG and 1L of VG could I mix the bottles together in say a 3L bottle and add flavour to that and also how much flavouring would I need for it 🙂
How much favouring depends on the particular recipe you're aiming for. The sidebar guides have all the relevant math formulas explained, and also links to calculators if you want fast math.
Can't answer to the other part of your question as I'm new in this, too.
I just can't seem to google this and don't have bottles nearby. Does anyone know the dimensions of labels on 60ml and 100ml Chubby Gorilla style bottles? The size that leaves a little gap in the back.
