Trouble getting a good buzz with Nic salts
submitted over 7 years ago by bbbb1914

Recently I ran out of nicotine so I decided to try out nicotine salt based solutions. I knew that it helped for a smoother vape but I didn’t realize that it also breaks down quicker.

I transitioned to more Mtl based vaping So first I made 25mg, since I liked a salts based juice in this range that I tried from a friend. Ended up being way too much for my setup. One hit and I would get lightheaded and dizzy without even feeling the stimulating buzz that my other juices typically provide.

So last night I whipped some juice up in 6mg. This seemed good at first as I wasn’t dizzy, but it still felt like I wasn’t getting the typical e cig or even cigarette buzz. I don’t crave more nicotine but I also don’t really feel anything.

Should I try going a tad higher or does it just take some getting used to? What’s weird is I totally get the buzzy feeling with my Juul, which has a lot higher nicotine than I was used to with my usual 3mg cloud chasing setup.

Anyone try nicotine salts and not like them?

You are probably just getting used to it. I did not get a nic buzz in almost 30 years. (Yes I smoked that long...). No buzz at all for me no matter if I smoke or vape.

Smoked around the same length of time. Would maybe get a buzz on my first smoke in the morning.

Maybe...if I slept for 10 hours without waking up and smoking in the middle of the night. Which I did every single night. So not even that for me :(

Admittedly, it wasn't every time for me, but I do remember it happening a number of times. I think mostly when I'd been sick.

"Cigarettes are the most pointless drug. The only time you get high is the first drag from it in the morning, and then the rest of the day it's just you smoking so you dont wanna kill alot of people"

I'm almost certain that lightheaded and dizzy feeling is what he thinks is a "buzz" and assumes this is supposed to happen when he intakes nicotine. I see these kids online that buy juuls with nic salt strictly to try and get high from it. What ever happened to the days where young adults would just go get a bag of pot for that. lol

I completely agree :)

I’ve been vaping for about 4 years and even when I’ve lowered nicotine I’ve still gotten a buzz

Were you ever a 2 pack a day smoker? For many years? Those of us who were... don't get a buzz much. We get our nic so we don't go around and, well... there's a lot of people in this world who need a good killin'... if we didn't have nic, we'd provide.

TLDR: got similar results as you, but maybe try letting it steep a couple days and see what happens

I just started mixing with salt nic just to try out because I heard it was a lot smoother than free base nic. I made a few batches for some friends at various concentrations and got odd results, but similar to yours.

One friend told me that he didn’t have cravings any more but also didn’t feel the normal nic buzz. Another friend said it was about the same buzz as freebase nic but a lot smoother. Another friend initially told me that there was no buzz despite the fact that I mixed a super high concentration for them (50mg) but then after they waited for a few days told me they got the buzz and flavor leveled out(tasted super salty right off the bat).

Personally when I made juice for myself (3mg) I only felt a buzz in the morning but not at night not sure why. I also let my juice steep a couple days before I tried it.

I was thinking about mixing freebase and salt nic but I’m not sure how that would go. I hope at least some of this is helpful if not I’m sorry for wasting your time.

Your post was very helpful! I was actually thinking the same thing - mixing freebase with salts

I'm trying 3mg freebase with 3mg salt and it's fine so far. Going to try moving to just salt as I really don't care for alkaline throat hits.

50mg holy shit.

Yeah they’re crazy and they wanted to try it in their jule pod

Not crazy at all. I refilled some JUUL pods with some 60mg juice I mixed up.

maybe you arent using the same type of nic salt? I think there are different ways to achieve a nic salt base, juuls use the benzoic acid method if im not mistaken. It seems like there are different quality nic salts on the market, i hear some are much better than others. I have tried nic salts from only one vendor and was kind meh about it (not sure which method they used to make their nic salts). I was able to get a higher concentration that was smoother, but ran into the same issues you did - no "buzz" but faster lightheaded/woozy feelings.

tbh i rarely get any nic buzz from vaping, mostly just a relief from nic cravings after a good vape. Never really expected to get a cigarette buzz style feeling. Seems like all the other weird chemicals and MAOI's in cigarettes are responsible for that strong buzz you can get sometimes. Kinda crazy how cig companies have honed their tobacco formulas/chemicals to be as satisfying and addictive as possible.

And the Carbon Monoxide...

Does carbon monoxide contribute to the light headededness after a cig?

Yes, it reduces the amount of usable oxygen in the bloodstream. One of the first signs of CO poisoning is dizziness.

Most of the lightheadedness is probably caused by the nicotine combined with other chemicals.

Yeah different formulation methods is definitely a possibility I didn’t consider. I switched to my rda and plain old freebase and I’m getting the buzz I was expecting. Might just chalk this up as a loss if I can’t get the right nicotine percentage.

The op doesn't say what their setup is. Nic salts are great at the right mg's with the right device. I haven't had an analog in 4 months and use 50 - 59 mg nic salts with a smok infinix or even in my nautilus 2 tank at 20 watts with the o.7 ohm coil (which would probably knock a non ex smoker on their ass) ...and I don't get a buzz. But I smoked 40+ cigs/day for 30 some years. As another poster said .. hardcore ex smokers rarely get a buzz. I don't even really understand this concept of chasing a "nic buzz". Stimulating buzz ??? If you are using the right amounts of nic for your body you would feel calm and level. Personally I don't know why someone would want a nic buzz.. but hey if lightheaded, dizzy, palpitations and nauseous are your thing .. vape on !

Personally I love nic salts and am grateful for them because I don't think I could have gotten high enough freebase nic without tearing up my throat and maybe giving up on quitting cigs .. salt nic has made the switch painless and something that works for me when nothing else in 30 yrs ever had.

I'm kinda laughing cause I too wonder when nic became what the kids are using to "get a buzz". I didn't even realize there was something in between feeling calm and level with the right nic and feeling sick from to much/not used to nic. Unless you are referring to the feeling of being spaced out and your brain doesn't work (usually just before you get sick from having overdone the nicotine).

Stop vaping for a week or two. Maybe your tolerance will drop and you will get a "buzz" again.

I have been using some form of nicotine since I was 11-12( I'm 30 in a couple months) so I don't know what it feels like to get a buzz, so this is just a theory.

I used my regular setup and got a buzz as usual. I’m just not used to nicotine salts I guess. It’s definitely different
