Hi all,
I've only just started DIYing, but every recipe I've made hasn't tasted sweet enough. Not sure if the issue is my recipes or perhaps my my machine/tank etc.

Tank is the one that comes with an Endura T18E.
Recipes I've made are as follows, and all max VG as I didn't buy any PG as my nicotine is max PG and 18% nic (max available in UK) so leads to most recipes coming out as approx 60% VG anyway. All aim for approx 4mg nicotine level, which works out around 22.2% volume of the recipe.
All have been tried straight away, and after up to 5 days steeping (depending on when I made them).
Examples of recipes
Just strawberry ripe
- 20% strawberry ripe (TPA)
Straw/Rasp/Dragon mix
- 4% Strawberry (ripe) (TPA)
- 4% Strawberry (TPA)
- 4% Raspberry (sweet) (TPA)
- 2% Dragonfruit (Cap)
Raspberry/Apple mix
- 4% Raspberry (sweet) (TPA)
- 4% Apple (TPA)
Strawberry Vanilla Danish swirl
- 3.3% Cinnamon Danish Swirl (Cap)
- 3% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (TPA)
- 5% Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA)
None of the above are horrible, they just taste a little bland.
So do I need to add more flavour? A sweetener? Are my recipes just a bit rubbish? Or do I need a better hardware?

I think you got some pretty good replies in your previous post, before you reposted here. But for sure, your 20% Strawberry ripe is just way too much. Cut that in half, at least. And possibly used a second strawberry, something like 3.5% Strawberry ripe, and 2% Strawberry, something like that.
Sucralose (Sweetener) can really help fruit mixes pop, so you can experiment on that, and how sweet you like it. I'm a fan of Capella Super Sweet @ .25%.
In your next 2 recipes, I feel you could cut those %'s in half as well and try there, possibly add a hint of sweetener.
In your last recipe, honestly, it doesnt look that bad. It looks like it would be ok tasting.

Give yourself a week or 2 to get used to no added sweetener. Everyone coming off of commercial juices experience this. A big plus is greatly increased coil life. I go a full month (300-400 mls) between changes.
Or, pick up some sweetener to add, it's up to you. There's no right or wrong, just personal preference.

So, I need some help.
I have been trying to mix my own e juice and am getting next to NO flavor. Im starting to wondering if its the TFA flavoring I am using.
I have been searching various forums and reddit for a possible solution with no luck.
I was vaping juices that my local shop carried. Those still taste great. Im not expecting that same quality at all yet - I just want to taste some damn watermelon.
I have let other people who vape try my juice - they agree - next to NO flavor.
TFA Watermelon @ anywhere between 8-15% Sometimes, I will add a little menthol.

I am using a scale to precisely measure and am mixing everything properly.
I let a couple batches at 10, 15 and 20% flavoring steep for a week.....still nothing.
I am using 18mg base strength nic, mixed @ 3mg

Starting to wonder if i made a mistake by ordering more TFA.

Looks like you are using too much Flavor. It's counterintuitive, but try tfa watermelon at 1% and see what happens.
Still nothing. I really don't know whats going on here. Almost tastes unflavored.
Edit: I guess I will just wait untill my new flavors get here. Hoping that will make a difference.
You're probably missing the sweetener.
I was thinking that, I just diddnt think it would be such a drastic difference. Will I eventually get used to no sweetener I guess? I know I could add it but if I can avoid it I would rather do that. I just diddnt think no sucralose would be such a big difference. I could vape unflavored and would be almost the same.
TFA makes some insanely strong flavors, (Cinnamon Spice is craziest, but Spearmint is really strong) but they also make a few that are among the weakest. Their watermelon isn't one I've used tho...
It will take time to adapt to juice with less sweetener. You could start by using really sweet flavors... INW Grapes comes to mind. Some coconut flavors... some chocolate flavors...
I was wondering if anyone might know a place where I can find the gravity weight setting for the real flavors I sent them a message but I haven't heard anything back from them yet
Just sampled a few flavors from their website and some have their specific gravities in their description.
Bought some TPA Pralines and Cream on a whim since FlavorPlace was having a GOOB sell. Just read the MSDS and found that it has vomit flavoring (butyric acid) in it, so I probably won't be mixing it in any capacity. Which other PnC flavorings are good and don't contain BA?
I currently use a 10ml syringe to measure VG and want to start putting it in some sort of squeeze bottle to make the process faster. Any recommendations?
I use 16oz squeeze bottles with Yorker caps. Think condiment bottles. You can buy them at Walmart or Amazon pretty cheap.
I had to cut the tip to open the flow a bit for VG.
That's what I use as well, super convenient. I also use a 30ml bottle for my 100mg nic base. It's nice being able to keep my big bottle of base in the freezer (lasts longer before going bad) and the smaller one in the fridge (so it isn't as thick and hard to pour when mixing).
Finally got a fire lit under my ass and am going single flavor test crazy, just looking for some recommendations on good single flavor %'s for these flavors (ELR suggedted % has steered me wrong so I no longer trust it for suggested single flavor percentages lol)

I would like to get an advice. I recently mixed my first two mixes (-> see here Link). I was told there that I should just wait, and I'm fine with that. However, I just tried one of the mixes again, and it still has not changed much.
I also received today a concentrate mix of Lunch Lady - Lemon Tart from FlavourBoss. I threw it all together, and also checked a little bit in my Wasp Nano. There are worlds between my mix, and this one. It has not steeped a second, but already nails the original pretty much. The Lemon is strong, and the biscuit is very smooth in the background.
This is a mix, where I'm absolutely sure it will be perfect after steeping, just because it's already so good, it's just that the different flavors taste a little bit separated from each other, and not yet blend together (which I'm sure will happen during steeping).
So I'm now curious why this is not the case with my mix. Of course, the used flavors are not the same. For example they use Inawera Biscuit, while I only had the one from Capella.
Is this the reason? Are those flavors completely different in taste/strength and can't be changed for another one?
Or is there another reason?
Flavors differ wildly from vendor to vendor. Most of the time, you cannot sub flavors for others you do not have. There are definite exceptions, but they are not all the same.
This is interesting, I bought a sample 10ml of the Lunch Lady juice from them this week and I was a bit disappointed by it, I couldn't taste much else other than a lemon curd flavour, the biscuit seemed very weak to me.
Hi all, I was hoping I could get a bit of help choosing my first flavors, I have a short list and I was hoping someone could point out any I may have picked that I should avoid.
I'm mainly into tobacco flavours (not a huge fan of ry4 but then again I've only tried one years ago from Vaporcraze) with a sprinkling of others, I'm limited to manufacturers from Pink Mule here at the moment and would prefer stuff that doesn't need to be mixed at more than around 3%.
Anyway I'll stop rambling and show you my list, hopefully you can help, and point me away from any horrible mistakes, thanks very much.

For tobaccos, I’m not super thrilled with their INW selection. The American Type that you’ve got on your list I would probably drop. No matter what I did with that, it just tasted like Sweetarts to me. The Virginia is pretty decent, but it’ll probably be best used in a mix as more of a supporting tobacco. Desert Ship I have not had, so it might be worth the gamble. Maybe you could report back and let me know :) Kent is a pretty decent one, but it does have a little bit of a black licorice taste. I really don’t like black licorice, but I find it tolerable in that one. It’s also got a bit of a coffee vibe. It is super strong, so staying below 3% with that should be easy. Even at .3% I can easily pick it out in a mix.
If you happen to be a fan of that black licorice/anise flavor, then Old Havana might interest you. That’s about all I can taste with that one. INW Turkish is pretty good, but sort of strange. When I first tried it I picked up on this cream soda taste, and ever since then I only taste cream soda when I try it. INW Arabic can add a bit of mustiness to a mix kind of like what you smell in a jar of moist pipe tobacco. Gold Ducat is a pretty popular one if you are in to a pipe tobacco with a sort of raw honey sweetness. INW Cuba Cigar is ok with some custard or something that kind of tones down some of the funkier notes.
TFA Western is about the only usable TFA Tobacco for me, and I have to use it below 1% or its just too damn strong.
Just getting these flavors might not be all that great without some other things to mix them with. Do you have any kind of flavor profile in mind that you are shooting for? I could try to help you pick a couple of those tobaccos and then some other flavors that will mix well with them so you don’t end up with a bunch of flavors that don’t mix well together.
Wow that's brilliant, very nice of you to put so much work in. The Turkish sounds interesting actually, I quite like cream soda, not a huge fan of liquorice flavors either so that's good to know so I might act actually pass on the Kent, unless it's really worth it. The Ducat sounds interesting too.
Flavor profile-wise I smoke/ed a French tobacco called 1637, handrolled probably closer to a Virginia tobacco than anything else, on the lighter side not a heavy Drum or Old Holborn type. Or failing that I am quite partial to the Lucky Strike/Marlboro/Camel toasted US blends (which is what I was thinking when I saw Desert Ship, I'll definitely get one of them and tell you what I think).

No problem! Also, there’s FA Black Fire that might be worth looking in to. It tastes more like Latakia than anything that’s actually called “Latakia.” Super strong stuff. Used low enough (around .25%) it can add a little hint of smokiness to the mix.
For Virginias it is unfortunate you can’t get Hangsen or Flavorah from that site. Both are much better than the INW Virginia. INW also has a Tobacco Absolute Virginia that is very good. But the normal INW Virginia is still better than FA Virginia.
INW has some weird shit they do with the names, and they’ve got like 4 or 5 different lines, and have similar names for two different lines. Like there’s the INW Virginia that is on that site, then there is the “Classic” line that has Classic Virginia, and then there is the Wera Garden line that carries the tobacco absolute Virginia. Then they have a flavor that’s called S’Camel, which is also known as Dromedary, which I just found out tonight is also sold as Pyramid. So maybe Desert Ship is the same as another one, but I can’t say for sure. There’s S’Desert Ship as well, but I don’t think it’s the same as what they have. If it is the same... I’m sorry. But I think everyone that is diving in to tobaccos should have a surprise licorice experience. Builds character.

It is way to strong in my new RTA. I take two good hits and I get light headed. It’s a shame for it to go to waste as I know people use 6mg
I’d like to trade for the same value in 3mg.
Just get a liter of the same base liquid just without nicotine, mix it 50:50 and you got 2 liters of 3mg liquid.

Just get a bottle of VG. Use the 6mg as your nic base in whatever recipes, the flavors will affect the ratio of PG and VG, but you'll be able to get to 3mg/ml more accurately. (If you only vape unflavored, and you have a problem with 90-10, then go with the other suggestion.)
I've just tried to create my first recipe, a kind of tangerine ice cream. Is there anything that looks noticeable that I should try?

So I decided to try to quit smoking and start vaping today. Problem is, I live in Finland so as you can imagine or have heard vaping is restricted here.
I bought an Ego AIO and some 12 mg nic tobacco flavored e-liquid. Obviously it's not encouraging to smoke tobacco flavored e-liquid while trying to get off cigs, but according to finnish law they are only allowed to sell that flavor. Afaik same goes for nicfree.
Anyway so my question is: Does anyone know how I can make my own e-juice legally in Finland, since ordering online is illegal and all the stores here only sell tobacco flavors? Can I just add some taste to this e-juice somehow?

That would be really the only thing holding you back from making whatever you wanted. VG/PG are used in many different applications. The flavorings used in Ejuice are actually made to be used in food and beverages. So buying those shouldn't be an issue.
Yes, I'm pretty sure buying liquids containing nicotine (other than the ones with tobacco flavor) is illegal both online and physically. Nicotine is considered a pharmaceutical drug here if I recall... But would it be hard to just mix some flavoring in the already existing tobacco flavoured ones? I think there is a 18mg nic bland "flavour" too.
Edit: would the bland nicotine e-liquid be considered a base? If so I guess it'd be easy to make flavors, only drawback is the amount of money it'd cost. Thanks for ur answer by the way!
Well if by bland that means unflavored then it would be a nicotine base; granted, not a very concentrated one at 18mg/ml.
You should look around though and see if base nicotine gets around the regulations or not though. I have hard enough time keeping up with the USA on regulations let alone Europe's, but at least the US DIY stuff is unregulated so we don't have the hurdles you guys do so I wish you luck.

I think you would make some progress by taking a step back and skipping the cream and sweetener completely for now. Either reduce the Jelly Candy or bump up the two watermelon flavors a bit. Then see where you're at and consider your options.
Perhaps some FLV Wild Melon to replace FW? An additive such as TFA Dragonfruit or INW Cactus? Or a complementary flavor such as apple or strawberry?
Shoot me links to some of your guys favorite fruit mixes! I'm primarily into dessert and bakery stuff but occasionally fancy anything with berries or melons, but willing to experiment. Just picked up tfa kiwi, and some cap fruits (passionfruit, pomegranate, etc.) I'm excited to test out

What flavoring of TPA FLV FA Capella to be aware of when mixing for a PMMA tanks like on the SQuape and Nectars?
Is there well known more aggressive flavorings or something happen when certain flavorings mixed? thanks!
Not familiar with those tanks. Can you explain what you mean?
The tanks are made of PMMA material - because of the designs. Both atomizers are amazing, on nectar it clamps the tank between negative deck and positive, without orings. On the swizz made one the tank have threds. I'm only weary about what mixes to throw in, because they'r expensive. I guess skip zesty lime lemons cinnamons ect - fruit berry/creams/custards are ok?

Ok, I have a flavour that recommends it makes up 20% of the final mix. It's a 10ml bottle and I want to make a 10ml ejuice mix (50% PG & 50% VG). The flavour is PG based, so I understand the breakdown is 20% Flavour, 30% PG, 50% VG.
The part I'm unsure about is the above mix requires 2ml (going by the calculators), so I fill the syringe to 2ml, leaving 8ml of Flavouring in the Flavour bottle. Is this right?
Also, this is confusing: "All of our concentrates are available in 10ml bottles - enough to mix up 50ml of delicious eliquid when used as 20% of the final mix." I just don't understand it.
It sounds like you are using a one shot concentrate and not a flavor. Do you have a link?

Idk if this would be the place to request recipes also? I've stuck to mainly bakery flavors but would like to try my hand at some simple foolproof fruit flavors. Anyone suggesting easy fruity recipes I'd be forever greatful.
Well, if you have the blueberry trinity, LA Lemonade, FA Lemon Sicily, INW Grapes, and a couple more flavors, I could give you a bunch of recipes. Basically my Dead simple approach is add a fruit to a mix of 4% LA Lemonade and 1% FA Lemon Sicily, then throw some cooling agents at it. FA Fuji is also really handy for making fruit juices. INW Cactus is handy as well. But without knowing what the limits are as far as what flavors you have... it's kinda difficult to name recipes for you.
No limits gimme what you got. I was planning on placing an order for fruit flavored mixes so I'm game for anything!!!

...well, a bunch are still in development (like the Elderflower Lime Cider recipe, the mulled cider recipe), Cherry.... and some range a little farther from the fruit profile, like a raspberry/cherry Arnold Palmer. I also have a couple saved on a computer I don't have access to right now, like a blueberry lemonade...
And pretty much every fruit benefits from cooling, with the exception of something like a mulled apple cider, since otherwise most fruit juices are best consumed cold, so the expectation in your brain will translate "cold OJ good, hot OJ not good." But personal preference/tolerance for cooling agents varies so much...
Is it worth getting scales opposed to using syringes? If so what are the benefits?
One scale. And yes. Less clean up, faster. Way less of a hassle in dealing with syringes.
I'm trying to increase just the VG ratio in my juice but I'm not sure how.
I've been mixing my own juice for years now and have run into a problem. I have been mixing my juice with a 50/50 base forever now. I've started using sub-ohm tanks over the last year or two and it just finally dawned on me that they are most likely leaking due to my juice ratio. The last three tanks I've used have all leaked and my new one is already leaking after just a few days. I was talking to a buddy and he said hey it's probably your juice...
Anyway I've used the same calculator forever and it's always done me well but it is simply too basic for what I need to do. I make my juice in batches, typically about 10-15 120ml bottles at a time. I've got all this juice mixed up and don't want to waste it or let it continue to leak like I'm currently doing. I think if I get some 100% vg I can at least boost these up to a useable level.
Here's what each bottle currently has:
- 4ml nic base (100mg/ml 50/50 base)
- 24ml flavoring (I can only assume 100% PG base)
- 92ml base (50/50)
As you can see with this layout I'm probably closer to a 65/35 or 70/30 PG/VG ratio. I would like to bump these existing bottles up to around 80/20 VG/PG if possible. I realize I'll have to also add more nic and flavoring as well, I'm just not sure whete to start. Thanks in advance for any help.
Your current mixes come out at around 60PG/40VG with around 3mg nicotine. With 20% PG in your flavors already, it's unfeasible to get to 20PG/80VG without producing huge amounts of liquid in the process.
Getting to 40PG/60VG for example though will (for one 120ml bottle) require 92ml of VG, another 24ml flavoring and 4ml nic base added. That might already help with your tanks.
(Just for completeness sake, fiddling with my calculator gives me around 20PG/80VG if you add 1000ml VG, 176ml flavoring and 44ml of your nic base to one of your 120ml bottles)
So basically just mix up another bottle with 100% VG and then mix them together? That's probably the easiest solution. Thank you! I guess I need to make another order to get the VG base. I only make orders like twice a year so no worries, I'll probably go ahead and order more nic in 100% VG while I'm at it. Thank you again for the info.
You're welcome! :) I usually aim for 60VG/40PG and never had too much issues with leaking while the amount of PG transports flavors very well.
One thing you should know about VG nic bases is that you should make sure to shake them properly before using it as the nic can apparently separate. There's something else about lesser shelf-life compared to PG nic, but that shouldn't be an issue if you're ordering twice a year.
I want to get some base that already has nicotine in it so that all I have to do is add flavoring, where is the best place to get that? I was thinking of Nude Nicotine, but is there any where else that is good?
Not sure if you are new to DIY or not, but I just got into it in the past 4 weeks (been lurking for months, but decided recently to take the plunge). If you are new, like me, I can offer you my experience. If not, feel free to ignore me. I started with mitten vapors premix 3mg 90/10 (base with nic added, like you are inquiring about). I figured with the recipes I was going to try, it would work out to about 80/20 to 70/30. I was mixing by volume, because the idea of mixing by weight was intimidating. It was awful. No matter what recipes I tried, they all tasted metalicy, and muted and just bad. Figured I would try with separate PG, VG, nic, and mixing by weight, before I throw in the towel and decide DIY isn't for me. Ordered PG, VG, and nic from Nicotine River. Nic arrived leaking from the seal of the bottle, but was in a sealed bag. Figured "I'll give it a go anyway". Flavor was better, but it was WAY TOO harsh at 3mg. Completely unvapable. "I suck at this, DIY is not for me". "But... just in case, let's order a 120ml sample of 100mg nic from Carolina Extracts, if I can't make a decent juice with that, then I'm out". Well, the nic made all the difference in the world. Don't get me wrong, my recipes still suck because I am new to it, but I am 100% certain I will get better as I learn with my own pallet how different flavors interact with each other. As a noob, I can tell you if you want to try this seriously, start closer to where you are going to end up anyway, and don't waste money like I did.
You realize that unless you're planning to vape unflavored, with no nic, your final pg/vg ratio and nic content will be off?

It can't really do that... unless you use a fixed percentage of flavor in every recipe. So either you're limited to what you can mix, or you need straight PG to dilute the flavors with (to retain the same PG ratio) or you just make everything max VG...but you still need straight VG to do that. So really, what's the point of a premix at that point?
I have bought the Liquid Barn Basic liquid a few times now-it's the VG/PG with nic added. I like it alot! The nic they use seems to be good-no harshness or odd taste from it. I like 70/30 3mg nic, so the one I get is actually 80vg/19.7pg 3mg. That leaves room for the pg in flavoring and my mixes usually end up around the 70/30ish mark.
A couple of questions:
Does anyone have any feedback on Vape Train Australia (VTA) concentrates?
Is FLV Cream that good and what other concentrate is it most comparable to?
So far I have only tried five of them.
Fizzy Sherbet - Incredible. None of the other concentrates that are supposedly "fizzy" come anywhere close to this one.
Yogurt Drink - Odd name, wonderful flavor. It tastes nothing like yogurt. It tastes like a light lemony citrus in a silky smooth slightly dairy-flavored cream.
Sour Lemon - Mediocre, nothing wrong with it, just another lemon candy flavor. Not actually sour.
Shisha Mango - I've seen people raving about it but personally I'm not a fan. I get a little bit of a piney peel note an otherwise deliciously ripe mango and it just makes be wonder if people out there are not properly peeling their mangoes before making flavors based on them.
Coconut - It's bad. At the heart of it there's just another suntan oily coconut like TFA Coconut, but in the top notes there's something weirdly woody and an errant hint of citrus that just kinda ruins it.
I have the whole line now and am going to be working my way through it until I've tried them all. This week I'll try Caramel Mocha, Creme Caramel, and probably Golden Syrup.
And yes, FLV Cream is love, FLV Cream is life. It's probably most similar to TFA Whipped Cream or CAP Vanilla Whipped Cream. It's really not very close to either of those, though, it's pretty unique. But it works in a mix in much the same way that those do, just more deliciously than TFA Whipped Cream and without the vanilla flavor of CAP VWC.

Another thing that's confusing me:
I used to vape store bought premium juice at 15w, when I make my own juice, at 15w I get a horrible burning taste, and need to go below 11w to get rid of it, but this reduces the overall satisfaction of the vape experience.
Is there a reason for this? Anything I can do to stop it? 15w gives a much more pleasurable vape.

Yes, broadly, would usually buy 70/30, most of my recipes are above 60/40.
Are you able to use 70/30 of commercial juices? I have the T18E and I've found that even at 50/50 it can struggle sometimes. I never managed to pin down what the problem is but I used to add a bit more PG or a little distilled water. I would recommend to make your juice at 50/50 for that tank.
What atty are you using? Those wattages seem really low.

I'm working on a recipe that involves the Kentucky Bourbon/Toasted Marshmallow base, and it seems really muted. Anyone know roughly the EM content of the two?

I just bought 250ml of 100mg nic in VG by accident... meant to buy it in PG to avoid hot spots. What's the best way to avoid hot spots? What if I mixed i mixed it 50-50 in PG to make a 50mg solution? Would that help? Or just add too much air to the mixture and degrade the nic quicker?
People usually do a variation of this with nic to break down and store it. I'ts perfectly fine to do this and you will still want to shake it before every time you use it regardless of the base it is in. Just VG is very difficult to shake and more so if you freeze it.
Any DIYers from the UK here? I’m struggling to find a good website that has a full range of flavours. Make My vape seems ok but I want to make some of the top recipes of 2017 and literally can’t make any, MMV has lots of TFA and some CAP but not much else it seems. Any recommendations?

Hi. I've been cracking my head trying to figure out this one. I bought some allegedly food grade VG, but I've noticed that the think it's way too thin, watery. I've done some research and found out that VG absorbs up to 20% water from moisture in the air if not treated correctly, so I think that may be the reason... Now, how do I remove the water from my VG? Is it possible? Is it viable? Should I give up and buy some more from a trustworthy source instead?

A blend of FLV Granny Smith, FLV Green Apple, and FA Fuji should give a decent green apple. You'll want a hard candy base to get your jolly tho...

I found a lot of recipes on Pinterest, what i want to ask if anyone else finds this a good source of good recipes or are most of them shit? A lot of them claim to be clones / stolen recipes of commercial juices but god knows how accurate this is. For some reason most of them are in Russian???
Probably not a great source for quality recipes, most likely copypasta from a recipe site. The real question is their motive.
Stolen from a company? Very unlikely. Clone? Well, anyone can make a "clone", that doesn't mean it'll taste anything like the original.
Are they all shit though? Probably not. If you don't want to gamble, link something that looks good and we can probably dissect it for you.
I have a BVC aspire coil at 1.8ohm i use a 70pg/30vg blend with 3ml nic in a 30ml bottle, i add about 30 drops so it makes about 2% flavor. i have Cappelle flavors atm and i find that i have barley any flavor. when i smell the bottle i smell the flavor pretty strong but vaping it another story. i barely taste anything. is there anyway to fix this?
It really depends on the flavor, if 2% is enough. But seriously, how you fix it is upgrade your gear to something from the last four years or so. Typically a 1.8ohm coil isn't going to produce enough vapor for you to taste much.

I bought it 7 months ago and it is stored in my fridge all the time, I take it out when I want to make some DIY liquid. Recently my mixes don't taste that good, so I don't know if it's my flavor concentrates or the base itself.
Your mixes will be harsh if it goes bad, and you’ll be able to tell. So if that’s what you are tasting, yes. You don’t want to take the same bottle out each time. Ideally, you want to transfer a smaller amount to a glass dropper bottle for your immediate mixing needs.
So depending on what that “not tasting good” is, it could be the nicotine. How old are your flavors.
Well, they're not really harsh in any way, I vape it fine, but it's like I can't really taste the flavor in the best way no matter what. My flavors were always new and fresh, but it could be them...
So you say I can buy another liter, and put half of it for example in a glass bottle and store it at room temperature, other half in the fridge?
In my first 2 months of DIY, I've spent a couple hundred dollars on 100mg nicotine alone.
I purchased from ECX first with 4 or 5 flavors. The nicotine had a strong odor and was super harsh.
Then it was from Nicotine River. I thought this was going to be good, because the bottle was cold. Had a slight odor and harshness even at 3 mg.
I then tried to order from Vaperstek a couple weeks ago, but they were sold out. So I went with Carolina Extract. Bottle came and it was sealed, wrapped in bubble wrap, sealed inside of some kind of bag, which was wrapped in bubble wrap, inside of a box. I thought to myself, "Third times got to be the charm!" Wrrroooooong. It's harsh at 3mg.
Back to Vaperstek. Order a bottle. Also with odor and harshness.
I've shaken every bottle until it had thousands of little bubbles in it. Separated and stored them in Amber dropper bottles in the freezer. I've tried single flavor recipes, multi flavored recipes, just nic and vg, different pg/vg ratios, 3mg, 6mg, and 9mg for shits and giggles. Everything I've tried has been harsh.
WHAT AM I MISSING???
Edit: After typing this out I'm starting to think maybe DIY just isn't for me. Nothing but bad experiences so far with all the mixes I've made.
Can you give us some more information?
- What PG/VG ratios did you try?
- Where did you get your PG and VG?
- What recipes did you try out?
- What's your vape setup (coil, tank, wattage)?
- Did you try nic-free juice?
All this. It doesn’t really sound like a nic issue here given the different bases you’ve tried.
As far as the nic bases, the first two were 50/50. Carolina and Vaperstek were 100pg. The eliquids I've mixed have been anything from 70vg/30pg to 'max vg'.
I didn't order any extra pg to start with. VG came with my first order at ecigexpress. On my last try at Vaperstek I bought their vg and some pg.

I've been using a baby beast with the t8 coil and a dead rabbit with a few different pre-made coils from this. Anywhere from 50-80w.
Every recipe I've tried with nicotine, I've tried without, and they're smooth as can be.
Puh, you might actually be the one so unlucky to hit three bad batches :(
A few more questions or ideas if you don't mind:

Can you give us a ml run down of one of your mixes? How many ml Nic base (which one), how many ml flavor, etc?

Can you vape your nic base flavorless? E.g. mix up the following:
- 0.31g of your 100mg/ml NicRiver base (100% PG?)
- 12.22g of your nic-free VG
That will give you 10ml of a 3mg 97% VG flavorless liquid. If that's still too harsh, I'm at a loss.

You seem to have a friend who mixes - can you ask them to mix something up for you? If they can mix something that works for you (with your base/their base) we might be able to close in on the root cause.
In any case, it's perfectly normal for some recipes to be more harsh than store-bought juice (less Ethyl Maltol, less Sucralose, no MTS Vape Wizard). Keep it up, there's no secret with commercial juice that makes it less harsh, it's all down to recipes.
If it isn't your sources, how confident are you in your measurements and calculations? Is there a chance you've been making something stronger than you think?
I'd say I'm pretty confident overall. I've been using the calculator on e-liquid-recipes.com.
The scale I have, I've been having for quite a while now. I'll have a friend come over with a scale and just to rule that out. Maybe that's it and I have 1000s of ml of 100mg nicotine. I really hope so. I fell into the rabbit hole and have about a hundred flavors already....

When people refer to pepper tasters, for those who don't taste strawberry, is it a sensation more than a taste?

Pepper tasters refer to Vanilla flavors. And that’s definitely a taste thing.
The not tasting strawberries issue is entirely different.

I'm working on a raspberry ice cream, but it's just so damn dry. I'm gonna start by cutting the raspberries to 1/2% and adding some strawberry, but curious about what I might add to make this wetter. My go-to on a fruit mix would be INW Cactus or FA Pear, but those don't seem right for this mix.

I've got what I feel is an incredibly stupid question, I followed the beginners buyer's guide at the $65 level.
So I have 100mg nicotine in 100% pg, and a gallon of vg with some assorted flavors thrown in.
My issue is that I can't figure out how to ratio it out to arrive at 3mg strength juice of approximately an 80/20 or 90/10 (or there abouts) mixture.
I feel like I'm just missing a super basic component here.
Use a calculator. You don’t have to figure anything out.

I vape Grack right away. It changes a little the first week (for me) The cactus settles down and the grape comes forward. Its a pretty unique flavor and I love it. Its not trying to mimick anything in RL. Although I've seen someone compare it to "delicious urinal cakes" lol.
This one is tripping my brain out. I'm trying to mix a premade liquid (store bought Earl gray flavour) with a DIY custard that I'm making. I'm not sure how to go about the percentages. I want the final product to be 50/50, without having my DIY liquid being too diluted. How should I go about the percentages of my DIY mix? Keep it the same or double it?
Wanting it to be 50/50 (I get that 50/50 stands for half the store-bought and half your own liquid?) and not wanting to dilute your liquid is a little contradiction.
If you want to follow through, I'd suggest creating a flavorshot, so your pure custard flavors without any base (no PG, no VG). Now you can try adding a few percent to the store-bought liquid. If you want to dilute the store-bought or want to keep the nic/vg level, just add some base to it.
This way, as it's only about the ratio and dilution anyway, you can play with the percentages until you find something you like without wasting any flavors.
What's the ratio on the premade?
That's what I don't know.. it's single flavor so I'm guessing around 10%.
No... what's the PG:VG ratio?
If you want a final result of 50:50 then assuming the store mix is 70:30 (VG to PG) you need to make the same amount in 30:70
If that's not what you meant... the store bought juice is 100% of the flavor it is meant to be. Make a straight custard or whatever at 100% of the strength you'd likea custard to be. Mix equal amounts of the two, and the final result will be half strength tea with half strength custard. There's no reason to make two flavors use equal amounts of flavoring - I could make a all-TFA juice that's White Chocolate with cinnamon ( using White Chocolate and Cinnamon Spice) and I guarantee if I used equal amounts of the two flavorings, there is absolutely zero chance of you tasting the chocolate, because the cinnamon flavor is more than 200 times as strong as the white chocolate flavor. Or for something less extreme, if I were to make a juice using FA Cocoa and TFA Spearmint at the same concentration, it would be mint with a touch of chocolate... because the mint is more than twice as potent as the Cocoa. There are countless examples of flavorings that are of differing potencies. It's rarer to find two flavorings that are of identical strength.
What's more difficult to clone: a multi-flavor juice like cinnimon danish, strawberry milk, strawberry jam (I saw diyordie just did this one)... or is it more difficult to clone a single-flavor juice standalone like grape, mango, orange?
I feel like cloning a single-flavor "mango" juice could be quite difficult, there are so many possibilities to begin with from base mango flavors to other flavor additives that give it the trademark touch you're looking to clone. I've bought many mango juices out here in Vietnam (super popular from Malaysia) and they all have an original take on the flavor. Sure if your going for fresh green mango versus sweet orange mango you will have an idea about where to start, but I have 3 incredible orange mango juices in front of me that all quite different.
Typing this making me think single flavor testing A LOT would help, but do you see cloning a great single flavor juice more difficult or less difficult than cloning a great multi-flavor juice?
