PROLOGUE (from last year)
So, I'm a strange fellow. I've been going through old monthly recipe threads, databasing them, ranking them, and keeping track of who did what, and who was upvoted, what was popular, what were the trends, things like that.
Honestly only at March of 2014. I can't think of any way to automate it really, but I digress, my point is I'm seeing a lot of people that I don't know who they are. And I have no idea what they might have done for the community. NO CLUE!
They might have had a huge impact and it's really hard to know without experiencing it firsthand, this is a limitation of reddit itself, or reality I guess.
SO, I want a contest. Basically here are the rules:
THE PERSON
- Nominate One Person Who you think was the MVP of the year
- This person could have made a really important recipe, a really tasty recipe, hell you might just like their face!
- This person could be doing something with diy that nobody else is doing and their really good at it, and it's really interesting what their doing. Ex. Savory Vapes, or Green Tea Chocolate Vapes, or Earthy Flowery Vapes
- This person could be helping the community through amazing amounts of flavor notes, OR amazing amounts of flavor notes for a new company that nobody else would touch
- This person could be a moderator who is helpful and nice, informative.
- This person could be organizing and planning out a group of editers/volunteers to create a informative piece for getting new people started and on the right track.
- This person could be on top of the Weekly New Questions thread jumping on every thread helping every new person like FUCKIN THAT.
Anyways, I have a lot of people I would like to nominate, but heres the rules....
THE RULES
- Only one nomination per post.
- You can't nominate yourself.
- The nomination must be top-level.
- Each person who is nominated can be nominated multiple times (more quotes).
- You must describe why you think the nomination should be considered MVP of the year, minimum two sentences, recommend more.
- Contest ends in two weeks, 02/06/18.
- ADDED: You may make however many nominations you want to make! I want to nominate a bunch of people, a bunch of other people did too. Let's rake up the list.
- ADDED: You do not have to nominate just people, you can nominate websites, groups of people, vendors, concentrate manufacturers, concentrates, recipes, abstractions of life. I don't care!
- ADDED: Just keep it One Post Per Nomination and Top Level

I think if you saw this post by /u/apexified you know the only real choice for MVP of the year is /u/concreteriver
From Apex's post: "In 2017 he wrote 331 of his 393 reviews which is probably as close to a review a day as anyone will ever come, assuming he doesn’t outdo himself in 2018. Those 331 reviews encompass 21 flavor houses and weigh in at an astonishing 192,000 words or about 768 pages. He hasn’t just written the book on flavors, he’s written a massive book."
He's written a freakin Flavor Encyclopedia and raised the bar for how flavor reviews are done to ridiculous heights.

I cannot think of anyone else more qualified for this. /u/ConcreteRiver has been the basis of my DIY learning experience for the entirety of 2017. Thanks to him I was able to easily find a lot of great notes to use in my recipes and he definitely deserves recognition for it.
Even though I think ConcreteRiver is the obvious choice, I think someone ought to note how /u/leapinglabrats leaps on beginner questions in the weekly questions thread. You said we could have more than one nomination. This is my second one.
I don't want to seem like I'm taking for granted some of the veterans who have long been and continue to be taking good care of that thread, what they do every day there is awesome, but it seems like leapinglabrats really stepped it up participation wise in 2017.
When I have to remove someone's beginner question from the front page I usually redirect them to post in the weekly questions thread. I tell them that "experienced mixers frequent that thread and they are always happy to help and usually quick to answer." Greatly appreciate Leapinglabrats' way of helping to keep that statement true.
There are others, too many to list them all, but you've all been heroic when it comes to answering new mixers' questions that are posted in the weekly thread. Thank you.

Aw shucks, my efforts pale in comparison to some of the folks' in this sub, but I much appreciate the kind words. Thank you, good sir! I've learned so much from this community and offering advice when I can is just my way of giving something in return. I love this place and watching it grow!
I'm gonna go with /u/ID10-T on this one. Not because he works hard behind the scenes on the sub (i'm sure he does), not because I like the Noted podcast, and not because he makes tasty recipes. I'm nominating him because he's always friendly and helpful to me and other noobs here, and that goes a long way in my eyes. It's invaluable to have someone that is not only willing to help, but that will do it with encouragement and a smile, unlike some others who will just comment to say "it's in the sidebar" or "post in x thread if you want me to answer you".
Anyway, thanks /u/ID10-T, you made my first few months here better!
I flipped a coin, so first mixer up is /u/chemicalburnvictim for being the resident tobacco guru. If I have a question about tobacco flavors, if CBV can't answer it ain't nobody likely gonna know. And honestly, even when not using tobaccos, his approach to mixing is enlightening.
Thanks! When I got the resident tobacco specialist flair, I figured I had better buckle down and try to get my hands and tongue on as many tobaccos as I could. Over the last year or so I went from probably 20 different tobacco flavors to about 180. It’s been a wild time.
/u/ID10-T is the next mixer up. Mainly because he floods the sub with recipes. If someone mentioned a recipe, it's probably a 50-50 chance it's one from /u/ID10-T.
I wanted to refute this because anyone who "floods" the sub with recipes probably hasn't put much thought or work into their recipes. I thought I put out about 1.5 recipes per month last year, which seemed like a reasonable amount and not quite a deluge. So, I counted them. There were 26. That's too damn many recipes. I need to slow down. Experiment more, test more. Swap out different ingredients after I think the recipe is done and see if it gets even better. Reduce the flavors across the board by 25% and see what happens. Increase them by 25% and see what happens. See if it holds up to a month-long steep. Two months, even. Just basically slow it way down and get more meticulous. Thanks for the unintentional speedbump!
Another thing lD10-T does is in a vast majority of the flavor reviews that ConcreteRiver puts up, lD10-T puts his thoughts on that flavor in the comments, so we usually have at 2 mixers opinion of that flavor. Not saying he has done what Concrete has done-which is an amazing amount of work to help us all out-but lD10-T has done this in addition to posting recipes, running the FOTW, and helping out in lots of other ways as well.
I figured you just had 5-16 different recipes in development at all times, and took a few months for each to reach completion. But hey, if you think you need a longer design cycle that's your call.
I have more than a dozen recipes in development at all times but too many of them are back-burnered and not really being worked on at all, and too many go from barely started (one or two preliminary versions ages ago) to picked up again and "finished" in a month. I'm going to slow it down just a little. Maybe I think it already tastes perfect, but what if it could taste perfecter, you know?
Id like to nominate u/ID10-t for pouting together a recipe for me from my public stash which was tasty and has since given me some success mixing on my own. Also he was very helpful which made me stop lurking and learn how to use Reddit rather than just read Reddit.
I would like to nominate /u/ID10-T for MVP. Not only does he create delicious recipes and run the very cool Mixers Club program, he is a constant source of advice and encouragement for the mixers of DIY_eJuice, especially newer mixers (myself included).
Many of his recipes are recommended for newer mixers because they are simple, straightforward, and delicious. Several of his more intermediate recipes have been nominated in the Best Recipes Contest thread, and he has won recognition as a skilled mixer within the subreddit and in DIYorDIE and ATF.
His Mixers Club program may not have been started this year, but his continued dedication in organizing and directing the program deserves a great deal of recognition and appreciation from the community. Although the vast majority of DIY_eJuice doesn’t actively participate in the program, it’s a very cool opportunity for new and experienced mixers to try out new concepts and participate in community critiquing and coaching.
Finally, /u/ID10-T in thoroughly invested in the DIY_eJuice community. He is always willing to answer questions from a beginner, and he is always happy to advise mixers on complimentary flavors and recipe improvement. I would say that he serves as something of an ambassador for the community, making new members feel welcome and regularly lending his expertise to mixers looking for help.

Just kidding. I apologize for snubbing /u/ConcreteRiver, /u/ChemicalBurnVictim, /u/thatswhatshesaid, and any other users who put in their work keeping Mixers Club going. I think it’s a really cool program and I was mistaken in thinking it was operated essentially by one person.
Nah, it pretty is ID10-T. He's just modest. ChemicalBurnVictim is a pretty recent addition, and I just write up a couple posts and spitball on themes. ID10-T has been the lynchpin of the mixers club since he took over distro and he keeps the trains running on time. He fully deserves the credit.

Running one of the biggest ELR websites and maintenance and setting the tone for other recipe databases by new functions and forums and allowing mixers to comer together, even still processing through all the upgrades to the database and accepting user feedback. He is constantly making changes, sometimes immediately to what the community wants or suggests, and keeps it free! Still sets out time to laugh it up with the community and probably one of the most modest, open-minded folks. He does it with the team behind him, but he chimes in on keeping conversations clean, directed to the goal of the post, short easy advice for the new-goer and filters out the trolls. He is a unique, no-circle-jerk, classy mixer.
I slacked off after my first two nominations. I had intended more, but got distracted. My bad. So, while I finished the nominations of mixers, and the 'reviewer' nomination has already been made, I'm not sure how this next one gets classed... because it's a project and a collaborative effort and whatnot - theflavorwiki is definitely in a different class. Basically everyone involved gets kudos... but really it's a brilliant resource, and one I should get more involved in contributing rather than just using for my own purposes.
