Howdy Mixers! How many new year's resolutions have you already thrown out the window?
Here go again. Nevermind that I'm STILL working on one that came up because of the first Monthly Clone Challenge way back in March 2017.
/u/SlashaLo is the MVP of the December Challenge and will be contacted about a small token of appreciation.
The purpose behind this monthly clone challenge is to gather the community behind an effort to clone just one juice.
The subject of this month's challenge is Hex by Golden State Vapor, which was requested by /u/penatbater
Penatbater writes, "Description says sour watermelon gummy, but im tasting more gummy watermelon. The sour is very light (probably only a tiny amount of malic acid added after the general mix was made). Has that cloying mouthful so perhaps some marshmallow was added. Not really juicy or fresh watermelon, more candy watermelon. But doesn't have that blatant artificial watermelon flavor. Perhaps cap jelly candy was added, I see that common in candy mixes. The watermelon is the trickiest one imo, coz idk where to start due to sheer number of variants. Also, seems like a good amount of cap sweetener I think, since there's this overwhelming sweetness lingering on your mouth."
A reminder from the previous clone challenge posts: You are perfectly welcome to completely ignore the cloning aspect of this challenge and just consider the juice description as a prompt to create a recipe all your own with that profile. In this case, that would be Sour Gummy Watermelon.
Please respond with recipes for Hex by Golden State Vapor, ideas about how to start an attempt to clone that flavor, your own delicious sour gummy watermelon recipe, general thoughts about having a monthly clone challenge, hate mail, love letters, lewd artwork, dirty limericks, comments, questions, concerns, anything remotely on topic.
If anyone would like to replace the monthly clone challenge with some other monthly or weekly community involvement-oriented feature, let's hear it!
Thank you. Love you all.
Edit: Sorry penatbater!
Watermelon (RF) @ 2%
Sour Watermelon Candy (WF) @ 4%
Sour Gummy Candy (SC) @ 2%
Marshmallow (Purilum) @ 1%
Optional - Super Sweet (CAP) .5-1.5%
Hex is a perfect replication of a sour watermelon gummy candy.
Do you get a candy flavor out of rf watermelon?
I picked a pure watermelon to separate from candy, so it's a distinct flavor, but the sour candy will blend it in well. Straight candy candy candy will make it taste odd (in my opinion)
R/chewymidget review said this is the sweetest, sour patch kid watermelon he's had. I'd say it tastes like sweet watermelon though, and an excellent base for a watermelon candy https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/5zum53/rf_sc_watermelon/
Does it have to be purilum marshmallow? Currently the only store I see selling these is nicotine river. Idk if a fuller marshmallow flavor will work better than FA, at least according to this review https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/5qz7m4/purilum_marshmallow/
awwww yea! :D I don't have a lot of watermelon to work with, and it sucks my order of hex isn't coming till the 3rd week of january. It's my favorite juice despite being super sweet. I found an 80/20 ejuice that's practically either only koolada or WS-23, so I add a few drops of it to my squonk bottle to dilute the sweetness while adding some deep cooling feeling.
I will admit I am a newbie to DIY, but this will be my white whale. Once I've gone through a number of recipes, gone over the basics, and have a better understanding of flavors, I will try my best to clone this damn delicious juice.
Also u/ID10-T it's penatbater, not pentabater :D Like... peanutbutter, but pronounced with a Filipino accent. (I have also been frequently called patbenatar on numerous occassion)
Sorry I messed up your username. I've corrected the post. Please don't hit me ^with ^your ^best ^shot
This makes me wonder how the clone challenges didn't end up with pun titles
In my experience, mixing TFA and FW candy watermelons in a 1:1 is a really good starting place. They both have their strengths and together make a much better flavor. If you want to add a bit of "realism" to the melon flavor, I suggest TFA Honeydew. It has a fantastic melon flavor and plays nicely with watermelon.
The gummy part is tough. I like CAP Jelly Candy. It has a nice body that sits somewhere between swedish fish and boring jelly beans. It doesn't stand on it's own though. It needs support. A little CAP Super Sweet and maybe a splash of citric or malic acid can help.
Candy watermelon with a dash of honeydew sounds kinda like INW Watermelon when you describe it like that.
Flv wild melon might work in this- it’s definitely a melon jolly rancher, with a mute farinaceous note.
Ok so I got my hex from the mail, and was previously vaping chrsd1vr's watermelon jelly rancher. As I said the watermelon flavor is different, but the mouthfeel and sweetness was very similar. So I think there should be around
0.5% cap super sweet 2% cap jelly candy 1% fa marshmallow/meringue
not sure which one tho but i definitely taste a very light creaminess to the mouthfeel at the end. I'm gonna hedge my bets on marshmallow.
So now all you have to do is try a couple dozen watermelons to ID the right one, and hope it's not a combination of watermelons because that'll make it harder to figure out
Chrisdvr1's watermelon jelly rancher sounds like it could be a good start , never had hex but really like the jelly rancher recipe.
I've just made his watermelon jelly rancher. It's not really it. I mean, they're both watermelon jelly candy vapes, but, idk the watermelon is different. Perhaps hex used a variety of watermelon? Or sth else? And hex is... jelly-er. Idk how else to describe it. x.x
Dunno could be. Does it taste like watermelon sour patch? Wonder flavors has a sour watermelon gummy flavor that's good stand alone. Wouldn't wanna think a company would use one flavor but you never know?
