So today I found a German flavor company that has a vanilla pudding in their arsenal.people claim it tastes exactly like the pudding you can make out the powder you can find in the supermarket when you mix it with milk. That’s exactly the pudding flavor I am looking for. Now on the flavor spec sheet it says that there is 0.6% lactic acid in there,Vanillin and pg. I haven’t tried the flavor yet but I’m wondering if that is the secret ingredient for getting the pudding flavor down. And yes,I am aware of flv vanilla pudding and cap vanilla custard. They don’t do the trick for me.they are either too light or too heavy/eggy/dark and I’ve been through various versions for the pudding base.I’ve tried a couple of other combinations with other flavors as well.some are pretty good but I hope to really nail it some day. Maybe someone out there knows something... u/ID-10T maybe?help me out here Dave
I don't know, bud. The only thing I know about lactic acid that is pertinent to mixing is that it is used in only six of TFA's flavors: Caramel (Original), Cranberry, Dulce de Leche, DX Caramel Original, Malted Milk, and Pineapple. And I only know that because I just looked it up. Curiously, where they give the description of each aroma for other flavors, such as "sweet, maple, bready, caramellic with nutty nuances" for the cyclotene that makes Bavarian Cream take on a maple flavor if you use it too high, lactic acid has no description. Weird, right? Elsewhere I've found it described as having a sour taste but being odorless. Which makes sense if you consider that TFA makes food flavors that we just happen to use for vaping.
If I want a pudding flavor I just steal one from /u/deejaymillsnyc 3.5% FLV Vanilla Pudding, 0.75% INW Custard, 0.2% FLV Coconut. That's good enough for Mills and it's good enough for /u/chewymidget and it's sure as hell good enough for me.
If you wanted that to be milkier, I'd probably add like 2% FA Fresh Cream or 1% TFA Sweet Cream... Though I'm about to take a deep dive into a bunch of other milk flavors this week so I might have a better suggestion for you after that. If you try that base and it's too buttery, use less FLV Coconut. If it's too eggy, try less INW Custard.
If that German flavor is nothing but vanillin, lactic acid, and PG, I'm calling BS on it being a perfect-from-powder pudding. Surely there's other stuff in there?
Regardless, I hope you don't let any of this dissuade you from buying that German flavor, trying it out, and reporting back.
well,i just read the spec sheet again and it's kind of weird because it says under ingredients:PG,Aroma,Ethanol,E270 (lactic acid) further down under nutrition facts you can see only PG and Vanillin but apparently vanillin only because it might be harmful for people with allergies...weird,right? So as you said correctly, there is more to it than just vanillin and E270. I'm gonna try your suggested combo but i don't have FLV Cocount.just got the sweet coconut and a bunch of others from different vendors.Which one would you suggest for replacing it? Milk: all the milk flavors i've tried so far give me the same rancid, overpowering taste in the nose. There is almost a pungent sensation when i vape TPA malted milk in a mix.I can't use any of them. Anyways, i already ordered the vanilla pudding and i'm going the report back here on this thread. thanks a lot for your thoughts man! P.S.: oh and i even ordered their milk flavor because i still wont give up in finding a useful milkflavor either :D
You could try 0.35% TFA Butter in place of the 0.2% FLV Coconut
i've tried using golden butter, but i was thinking for my next batch i wanna try butter cream, which isn't too buttery but brings some creamy thickness to table as well. i just bought some 80% lactic acid and used it at 0.5% in one of my batches.so far no sour note, even some slight improvement in the diary department.i might be on to something here...
Lactic acid tastes sour and fermented. Dunno how much that would lend to a good pudding but I'm sure it's in some cream and yogurt flavors. I have no great love of pudding but I do have a bottle of lactic acid lying around somewhere... Might play with it a little when I have some free time.
So for the people that are still interested in that specific vanilla pudding flavor i got:
Mixed at 3,5%
After a shake & vape this stuff has almost a fruity top note which i can't quite put my finger on.the base is light but creamy. It has an overall sweetness to it which is quite nice and not in your face.it's not a sucralose sweetness.Might be some ethyl moltol compound or it could just be the sweetness of the vanillin.it's not a spoon of sugar you dump over something.it's more like a sweetness that emerges from the inside.
After a 3 day steep
The fruity note has settled down and all has come together a bit better.I can see how this can turn into a nice pudding flavour after a week.It has a nice mouthfeel but isn't too heavy like a custard nor has it any egg notes.
Is it the powder pudding i've been looking for? I'm still not quite sure but it's definitely a good flavour and with some help from other creams you can turn this concentrate into your prefered pudding base or even a light custard
