Have you ever mixed a recipe with certain ingredients that ended up as something completely different?
submitted over 7 years ago by RokujinJamMonsterCloner

Sorry for the title gore. I'm wondering if you've ever used a combination of ingredients that you thought would create a specific flavor but ended up creating something entirely different and unexpected. Asking because the flavor I get from Dinner Lady's Lemon Tart is like a spot on Fruit Loops. Which makes me wonder if the way to accurately clone this recipe may not be trying to create a lemon meringue pie but an accurate Fruit Loops instead. Hope that makes sense.

Dinner Lady and fruit loops have a lot in common just from the basic flavor structure. You have a lemon note, grain, cream and sweetness. With that said, I personally don't get fruit loops from that recipe.

To me a lemon tart should be sour and nearly pungent, where as fruit loops should have other corresponding fruit notes, as well as that specific dry texture we associate with cereals.

Now with all that said, I've mixed OoO Oatmeal w/OoO Rhubarb Crisp, and the resulting flavor was more akin to a vegan deep-sea diver's asshole after a night at the cheap Chinese Buffet...

Oddly specific description.

You think the description is odd? You should have been in that Brazilian holing cell with me!

You can't get sour notes from a vape, that's why.

TPA Sour? Even on an iJust I taste it well enough.

Tpa sour is malic acid diluted to 20%. It gets crazy harsh before I get any serious sour notes, best I get is a tart sweetness before it gets harsh. If you look it up on ELR consensus is pretty much the same. As per source, pretty sure DIY or DIE talked about this issue. You'll never truly get that sour gummy worm flavor, maybe one that you sucked all the sugar off of at best for that tart sweetness.

Source? Because I've tasted sour in many different vapes.

What your referring to is most likely a tart sweetness like raspberry for instance. An actual sour that makes you pucker up is malic acid, which is harsh when vaped.

A long time ago I tried to make a mango-strawberry lemonade using fairly predictable ingredients and the result tasted like a sugared tomato.

Now don't tease. Recipe?

I'm sorry, I don't have it handy. This was three years ago. IIRC, the ingredients were CAP Sweet Mango, TFA Strawberry Ripe, and LA Lemonade.

I just got a free house juice from a local shop. It's basically a sweet sour wildberry candy type thing. But now I taste a chocolate note on the exhale after vaping 15ml of it. Super weird.

I get that some times with TPA strawberry+tpa straw ripe mixed with cheesecake (graham crust)

I have, in the past, attempted a fruit punch flavor using LA Tropical Punch as a base, that ended up tasting like someone shoved a fistful of gummy bears into my mouth. Not unpleasant, simply surprising. I can’t remember for the life of me what else it included.

I also attempted a pina colada flavor using LA Pina colada that ended up tasting more like a toasted coconut donut at around 7%. Again, not unpleasant, but not something I would try again. Needed pineapple.

I was trying go mix tfa strawberry ripe (@7% IIRC) with Blueberry Wild (@4%) and added just a little bit of cantaloupe (@1,5% or something, just for the freshness). Tasted like nothing but a perfume shop

Can't speak to lemon tart or fruit loops (both are well outside my profile) but I did make a spiked hot chocolate (using TFA Irish Cream and FA Cocoa) that turned into coconut after a couple weeks. Still had some of the original flavor, but coconut basically showed up out of nowhere. Wasn't bad, per se, but definitely unexpected.

I somehow ended up with basil when I mixed TPA Earl Grey with something. I don't remember what though... If I end up stumbling upon it again I'll definitely write it down because I can't get any of the Basils here.

I mixed FLV Cookie Dough with PRL Country Apple and it was indistinguishable from mushrooms. Vaped it anyway. Shroom vape, why the f I shouldn’t.

Oh yes, I also get fruit circles from dinner lady lemon tart. Fruit circles and AP.
