Whatchu vapin' on Willis? Plus 2 stupid simple recipes and why they work.
submitted almost 8 years ago by RockyHarlow

What's up DIY_Ejuice, it's been a while since I've checked in on everything and ~~I need inspiration for new flavors and I'm too lazy to search~~ I love seeing what my fellow DIY community members are up. It's also been a long time since I've seen one of these threads posted.

I think this post is okay as a standalone thread because I've included some flavor notes and it's meant to be an active thread about current flavors. If not a mod can PM me and I'll rework or delete it or something, who knows.

I'm currently ~~being a lazy damn bastard~~ going back to the basics and using 2 or 3 flavor recipes. Of course tweak percentages as you see fit, these are just what I use most often.

Pink Lady

[LA] Watermelon 2%

[TFA] Dragonfruit 2%

Optionally you can add 4% [TFA] Strawberry. I can't taste any fucking strawberries at all so I don't bother wasting the concentrate.

Pretty simple right? Definitely needs some steep time for the LA Watermelon because that shit initially harsh as hell for me. If you want to add some Marshmallow or a few drops of sweetner it will mellow out faster, but both fruits are already really really sweet. Alternatively the Ethyl Maltol in TFA Strawberry does a nice job of smoothing everything out and if you do include it in the mix I would skip the additional sweetner. TFA watermelon doesn't work for me in this mix at all, not juicy or tangy enough for what this recipe needs to be. LA Watermelon is one of the only fruits I've come across that needs more than an overnight steep, pretty bizzare. Shake and vape if you dare.

Strawberry Dragonfruit

See if you can guess what this one is. I'll wait. Again I'm part of the 'unable to taste Strawberry' club, but this was one of my first mixes back when I started DIY and I could still taste the ole' red berries.

[TFA] Strawberry 5%

[TFA] Dragonfruit 2%

Holy shit man that's just the same as first recipie minus the Watermelon. Yeah I know. These 2 work together so well it's dumb. Dragonfruit makes the strawberry pop out a bit more and adds a mild juicy mouthfeel similar to Cactus or Eucalyptus (which would also pair well here. Cucumber too) You can use other brands of Dragonfruit too if you so desire, TFA just does it for me here. FW Dragonfruit has an almost yogurty twang to it (a great addition to yogurt recipes at around 2% btw) but not what I like in this almost candylike flavor. Keep in mind if you go balls to the wall and add more Strawberry or sweetner your juice will mute over time and drown out the Dragonfruit.

I'm placing a new flavor order soon and working on some new profiles. Apple cinnamon muffin, peach gummy, more fruit blends, yogurt, skittles, banana cream, etc. I've just vaped straight fruit blends for so long it's ridiculous. I'm hoping by navigating away from the same old flavors that I'll regain the ability to taste the 'sacred red berries' again. When I do get the flavors I plan on doing some write ups for you guys, especially on the Wonder Flavors Super Concentrate (looking at you, Cucumber)

But anyway, enough of my rambling, run-on sentences, and excessive (and poor) formatting. What are you lovely folks sucking into your lungs today?

Thanks for stopping by all, xoxo.

P.s. anyone try this muffin man clone or have a solid one that's only 3 or 4 flavors? This one seems overly simple.

Sorry, recipes with less than 15 flavors must be posted to the monthly Lame Efforts thread. You have been permanently banned from /r/DIY_eJuice (and /r/Pyongyang while we're at it). :P

Preachin' to the choir. I rarely mix anything more than 3-4 flavors. Lots of 7-12 flavor recipes being posted these days. And most are just a muddled mess. Half the flavors can be left out and the results can be better.

This tank is a strawberry custard that's 3% INW Shisha+2% Cap VCV1 aged for a month. Really good base to start with, but I usually stop here.

2-3% each of watermelon and strawberry+1.5% Cap coconut aged for a week is way more awesome than it sounds.

Cap Sugar Cookie+Cap Custard, with or without fruit is a staple for me.

I hope to see more simple mixes posted!

I agree for the most part. Some of the really complex recipes I see have had a lot of work put in to them and I know that the nuances and add ins do serve a purpose (especially from the master mix gods amongst us), but I think for the most part they act more as an enhancer to make the recipie a little bit better or add small complexities but don't necessarily make or break the mix. Salt and pepper does it for me most of the time, I'm lazy and and ain't nobody got time fo dat.

>Cap Sugar Cookie+Cap Custard, with or without fruit is a staple for me.

My god I wish I liked custard flavors. I've never tried one I liked but my experiances are limited. Cap Sugar Cookie is bomb diggity though.

Agree on enhancers. They def can make a bland mix better. Marshmallow, meringue, cactus and the like have their place.

master mix gods lol. There are def some really talented folks around here, but also a lot of circle-jerking goes on as well.

Have you tried INW Custard? It is heavy, prob the most base note I own. But no eggy vanilla like my first love, Cap VCV1. You seem to be more into straight fruit-only mixes, but you may like it. Steep time is half of Cap too, so bonus.

Yeah pretty much what I mean when I say that. I would list the people who really help the community but I know I would miss or forget one and feel like an asshole. There's a good amount though.

No, no I haven't. I've used mostly tfa vanilla custard, cap and tfa creams, etc but nothing that didn't have a nice strong butric acid overload and taste like dog puke smells. I'm pretty sure the eggy vanilla is what kills me on the ones I've tried, I don't necessarily want to taste egg yolks every time I want to chuck a tit. I'll throw a small bottle in my current order and give it a shot when it comes in. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm praying for a good custard and let's hope this is it.

Edit: and of course the place I've already got a full cart on doesn't have INW custard. I'll still get it down the line and try it though.

Hey, your CAP sugar cookie + CAP custard, what %ages do you use these at, and what does it end up sitting like? :)

3 points

by coop34almost 8 years ago

4% SC and 3% VC. I tweak those, sometimes going heavier on the custard. I don't like it before a full week and 2-4 weeks seems like the sweet spot.

Haha I should really just make a dump thread for these. There are a ton of 2 or 3 flavor recipes I mix for myself when I need something quick. I'll post a couple of them.

flavor 1 | flavor 2 ---|--- Wf peach pie and cream 7% | FLV eggnog 1.25% WF-sc Princess cake 4%| FA pandoro 1.5% FA fuji 2% | TPA vanilla bean ice cream 4% WF-sc Coconut custard 3.5% | TPA pineapple 2% FE sweet rice 6% | FA Jasmine natural 1.5%

I've been messing around with tropical fruits because they sounded easy, and they are!

Juicy Peach (TFA) 4%

Golden Pineapple (CAP) 3%

Sweet Mango (CAP) 1.5%

Super tasty and I haven't got any flavor fatigue from it yet.

Golden Pineapple (CAP) 2%

Sweet Mango (CAP) 2%

Blueberry Extra (TFA) 2%

Blueberry (FW) 5%

4 flavors is as deep as I go. The only reason I used an extra one here is to really make the blueberry shine through without overpowering everything else.

I feel like tropical and to a lesser extent citrus flavors tend to take longer to fatigue your olfactory senses because they're so bright and stand out so boldly in a mix. I have a hard enough time having Mango not overpower a mix, often even at low percentages.

Edit: How is Cap Sweet Mango? It's in my cart and I'm waiting to pull the trigger on it. Is it a realistic flavor or more like a candied flavor?

I've been vaping a berry blend I mixed up, one of my favs that I have made.

3.0% TFA Strawberry Ripe

1.5% CAP Sweet Strawberry

1.0% INW Cranberry

O.25% INW Cactus

I really like the TFA Dragonfruit + watermelon combo @ 4% each although I prefer TFA's version in this instance. Here's another simple recipe that's made it into my rotation.

  • Cherry Concentrate (INW) - 0.6% (NOT INW Cherries)
  • Fuji (FA) - 2.5%
  • RY4 Double (TFA) - 2%

Good stuff. Simple is good.

I'm to the point now where if I open a recipe and it's got more than 4 flavorings in it I just move on. My palate can't sort out all the nuances, and it would be a waste of my time to try several versions leaving out things to see if I can taste a difference.

I've been trying some different 2 flavor combos by making singles and letting them mix in the tank. Once I got a combination that seems good I'll play with the proportions in a real mix. The last bad one that required a tank wash was forest fruits and cinnamon spice. Tasted like my grandma's house at Christmas.

One of my favourite recipes here is Grack juice. It has a nice refreshing, mysterious, cactus floral note that pairs extremely well with the grape. Lately I've been subbing the 4% INW Grape to experiment with new Grack variations. Using only 2 or 3 ingredients, the Grack "backbone" of cactus, dragonfruit, meringue, strawberry, raspberry and koolada have made some of my ingredients really come in out in a glorious 3D palette experience. Some variations include: sweet coconut lime cream, mango papaya cantaloupe, pineapple gummy champagne crack! Basically think of any 2-3 ingredient flavor combo that you would like and sub it in the 4% grape.
