So, I wanted to try something new with my ever growing flavorstash and my curiosity.
Actually, I bought a potted basil for my kitchen and put it in nearly every dish I make. Fresh basil on pizza, fresh basil on strawberries with balsamico vinegar and sugar, basil with dark chocolate and red wine.
Somewhere in there, I figured that there aren't many recipes that get creative with basil, so I ordered some FLV Basil. Smelling it is a bit weird, because it is sort of a sweet basil I never had in real life.
After tinkering a bit with the percentage (that stuff is strong!) I thought about creating a recipe that's not really sweet - hard to do with VG being sweet on it's own. (Flavor notes below the recipe)
Basinth
Flavor | Percentage ---|--- Absinthe (TPA) | 1.00 % Basil (Flavorah) | 1.20 % Bubblegum (TPA) | 2.00 % Pink Lemonade (FW) | 3.00 % Total | 7.20 % Steep time | 1-2 Days, no more than 1 Month
Absinth by TPA is a great, strong herbal - licorice flavor. It's not sweet per sé and leaves a nice, vibrant dark green taste in your mouth.
Basil is a bit sweet on it's own, but the main note is definitely like the green Thai-Basil. Very earthy, like the smell/taste of watermelon rind.
Bubblegum by TPA has become one of my favorite flavors. It's very versatile, a bit sweet and has a fresh, blue taste to it. You can nearly mix it with anything on the e-liquid flavor market.
Pink Lemonade by FW looks like the main flavor here, but it's kind of weak compared to the others. I get a blood-orange like citrus flavor from it, with a pleasant tang to it. In this mix it mellows out the earthy notes a bit, as a sour contrast.
Steeping this recipe is really something I don't experience often. As a shake and vape it is not rounded out, kind of edgy. After one or two days, the taste is a really pleasant, earthy taste. Not much sweetness at all.
But the older it get's, the more of the pink lemonade and sweetness of the basil you get. After one month it changed completely to a different flavor profile, so I would recommend not to make too many bottles at once.
Please feel free to share your thoughts on this or tell me about your non-sweet-recipes. I would really love to try something new :).
I have to ask: what was the profile like after a month?
This sub used to be filled with recipes that made me want to order dozens of new concentrates. It's been a long time since that's happened. Today won't be the day either.
FA Dark Bean 2%
FLV Rich Cinnamon .2%
(The only other thing to add would be a bourbon, but that would be quite a recipe, since there's no decent single-flavor bourbon. Or Scotch. Or any whiskey.)
FA Dark bean is now on my list. Would you describe the flavor as some instant coffee or more like a dark, fresh espresso?
Do you have any whiskey flavor you can recommend?
Interesting combination, I could see this being pretty good especially with some of the spices and flavors that are in bubblegum. If you like Absinthe and haven't heard of DV Absinthe, I highly recommend checking it out. I still need to get me another bottle of the stuff
Im happy to see someone using TFA absinthe. I bought a bottle with my last order just because but haven't been brave enough to use it yet. Even though I only have 1 flavor in the recipe it gives me a starting point and your description helps a lot
Well thank you :) other fantastic combinations for tfa absinthe are spearmint by cap, cap hibiscus or some fw black tea/tfa apricot. Added in low percentage it’s just a fantastic layer to add, but quickly get’s in the front if added as more than 1.5-2 percent (depends on your other flavors).
Additional tipp: Fw cucumber mint fits also very good in combination. Add a small amount of brown sugar and after 1 day you have a completely new experience with cucumbers ;).
