Hello everyone!
I recently saw a thread wanting more reviews on recipes. And to be honest I had been meaning to get around to doing this much sooner than I have. With that being said, let us get to the main chunk of this thread!
All juices made at 70/30 VG/PG 2mg nicotine unless otherwise noted.
Recipe - [Mango Sticky Rice by shyndo] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/56405#mango_sticky_rice_by_shyndo)
Shake and Vape - I absolutely despised this juice at first taste. All mango and a bit of a harsh throat hit from the Rice flavoring. My initial impressions left me disappointed.
1 week steep - This juice changed entirely. For me the sweet spot is a week steep. This turned into a delicious and very well balanced fruity desert flavor. The mango takes a bit of a backseat after a week and the sweet rice comes through nicely. This has earned itself a spot in my rotation. I've been making a 240ml bottle every 2 weeks so I always have some steeped on hand. Top 5 ALL time in the recipes I've made in the past 3 years of DIY.
Recipe - [London Haze by hashslinginghashur] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/39169#london_haze_by_hashslingingslashur)
Shake and Vape - Decent tea flavor. I went into this one with high expectations so this again left me a bit disappointed as a fresh juice. The lemon and cream was there, but the tea seemed lacking.
1 week steep - Steeping helped this juice, but not as much as I had initially hoped. The tea comes out but still (for me) seems lost behind the lemon and cream. That being said, it is a great flavor when I am looking for something a little more mild or neutral to step away from my normal bakery vapes.
Side note - The lemon and cream note here is fantastic. I plan on implementing this combination into a lemon pudding/custard at some point in the near future.
**Recipe - [Tiger's Blood by jyroe] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/45957#tigers_blood_by_jyroe) *Note - Added 2% FW Extreme Ice at request from my wife for a fruit menthol blend
Shake and Vape - Pineapple menthol. This is all I got from this recipe fresh. Every other bit of flavor was lost behind the overpowering pineapple.
1 week steep - YET again the steep makes the juice. Fresh strawberry, watermelon, and pineapple blend that is balanced with a light touch of coconut. The added menthol also adds a freshness to this juice that has earned it a spot in my permanent rotation.
Recipe - [HiC Apple Almond Tart] (http://vapingunderground.com/threads/hics-sugary-almond-apple-tart-simple-variations.13178/)
Shake and Vape - Mostly taste Apple Pie. Pretty one dimensional and pretty understandable considering it's a 2 ingredient recipe. Not much to say here.
1 week steep - Almond is more apparent for sure, but still pretty boring. This is the only recipe I didn't bother making more than once in this entire list. Not a fan personally. I feel like this would be a good base to expand on a true Apple Pie flavor though. Perhaps some added INW Biscuit and FLV Rich Cinnamon (1 drop per 30ml on this flavoring) would bring it more into its own.
Recipe - [HiC Limoncello Torrone Parfait] (http://vapingunderground.com/threads/hics-limoncello-torrone-parfait-lemon-liqueur-mousse.1839/)
Shake and Vape - Light on flavor, but from what I could taste this is very well balanced. The lemon and parfait blend well.
1 week steep - Flavor has definitely developed. Getting a lot more from this flavor and is exactly on point with the description provided by HiC.
Note - I increased the flavoring by a total of 25% across the board on the second batch I made. I would highly recommend doing this as it makes the flavor stand out much more if you vape at a higher wattage.
Recipe - [HiC Lemon Meringue Pie] (http://vapingunderground.com/threads/hics-lemon-meringue-pie.9895/)
Shake and Vape - Straight up lemon pie. Good crust flavor and good lemon but not noticing the meringue unless I specifically look for it. Not bad, but not great.
1 week steep - The meringue has come through and blended into the lemon nicely. The crust has dropped a little more into the background to really round off this flavor well. No complaints here.
Note - On my second batch I increased each flavor by 25% across the board (from 10% total flavoring to 12.5%) and it made the flavor "pop" a lot more. I would say this recipe benefits from the increase in flavoring.
Now onto my own personal recipes to share with you guys. I'm super excited about these because I truly feel like anyone who enjoys bakery flavors with fall in love with these.
Recipe - Strawberry Cake
Ingredient|% :---|---: Biscuit (INAWERA)|0.70 Cake (Yellow) (FW)|3.00 Cream Whipped (FA)|0.20 Joy (FA)|0.70 Marshmallow (FA)|0.25 Strawberry Shisha (INAWERA)|2.00 Vanilla Shisha (INAWERA)|0.50
Flavor total: 7.35%
I was originally intending to create the shitty Strawberry Cake you find at a cheap Chinese Buffet. Instead I ended up with some more akin to a Strawberry Shortcake Little Debbie snack cake. You can sub the FW Yellow Cake for JF if you'd like (and I would recommend it. I just haven't had any on hand since creating this recipe).
Yellow Cake/Joy/Biscuit - This forms what ends up being a shortcake flavor. Solid combination for a start to any "cakey" recipe.
Shisha Strawberry/Shisha Vanilla/Whipped Cream/Marshmallow - This forms the filling of the Strawberry Shortcake Rolls. Shisha Strawberry is quickly becoming my favorite Strawberry Flavoring. Shisha Vanilla/Whipped Cream/Marshmallow all come together to give us a light and fluffy filling. Do note that this combination also softens up the "Cake" portion of the recipe, turning it from more of a straight "cake" into a shortcake texture.
Note - Add 1 drop per 30ml of Cap Super Sweet if that is your thing. It's fine without the added sweetness but it is also very good with it as well.
Recipe - Snickerdoodle Cookie v3
Ingredient|% :---|---: Biscuit (INAWERA)|1.00 Cinnamon Danish Swirl (CAP)|1.50 Cinnamon Roll (FW)|2.00 Cookie (Biscotto) (FA)|1.50 Joy (FA)|0.70 Rich Cinnamon (Flavorah)|0.08 Super Sweet (CAP)|0.08
Flavor total: 6.86%
This is my third and likely final iteration of my own Snickerdoodle Cookie flavor. I believe this recipe to be finalized to my tastes.
I'd break this down but all this comes into making a single cookie flavor. The CDS provides a solid base and the joy/cinnamon roll/biscuit bolster it to perfection. FLV Rich Cinnamon and Cap's Super Sweet are used at 1 drop per 30ml. I would say these are 100% required in this recipe but you could drop the sweetener if you really want to. FLV Rich Cinnamon is unmatched though; it's a super potent flavor and added a really solid element to this recipe overall. You can drop the Cinnamon Roll and go up to 2% with CDS alone or drop CDS entirely and use Cinnamon Roll at 3%. However I like my version with the two combined the best.
I know this is a long post but I really enjoyed typing this all out for the community. If you would like anything expanded upon I would be more than happy to respond and listen to any comment or criticisms.
Cheers!
As one of the people you reviewed I just want to thank you. I think I can speak for most of us mixers when I say that a good review absolutely makes our day. Reviews are the lifeblood of diy. This community is absolutely wonderful and I'm just happy I have the opportunity to be a part of it.
And I just want to say thank you for a recipe that has maintained a spot in my rotation. I also commented on trying to tweak the recipe to be used with lime/lemon and while it isn’t there yet, it is getting close. Hopefully it’ll be able to stand up to yours soon enough!
I haven't tried most of those you listed. I'll have to look into a few of those.
HIC isn't a name I see posted here very often anymore. Probably because he charges $3.99 to "unlock" his recipes now because he thinks they are as good as gold. He has some good recipes but they are really mellow. He's one of those people that have super senses so he makes recipes that are faint to the rest of us. Last I heard he still uses pen vapes for all the stuff he puts out, too. Him and the other main guy at Vaping Underground are the people that pioneered the idea of selling recipes as one shots. Granted, he did it comically wrong as he looked like a greedy ass hat.
Thanks for these! What kind of steep do you recommend for the strawberry cake?
Isn't it a positive if people who have a particular skill at DIY can make some money out of it? Besides, HIC has many recepies in the public domain, well over 100 I believe He's hardly charging $60 for 30ml of juice, if you want to talk about scams. Hopefully more talanted DIYers can make a little money from it as time progresses, as people do in other fields that require skill and dedication.
