OK new mixers, this is your thread to ask any questions you want of the DIY eJuice community. All posts are allowed, but we still encourage you to use the sidebar and search features before asking any questions.
- Placing your first DIY order and want to make sure you have all you need?
- Not sure about how to mix your first bottle?
- Want to get started but aren't sure how?
- Any other questions? ... then this is the thread for you. FWIW, the answers to the first three questions will eventually be found in the wiki (still in development); link at the top of the page.

Not a question but a tip: when mixing a small amount by weight adding 0.5% to a 10ml can be difficult, just add some pg to the mix and don’t tare the scale. With weight on it most scales will pick up the added drop or two much better than they do when the scale is zeroed out.
Another option is to put something else on the scale. This cap for example happens to weigh exactly one gram, then you can still tare if you like.
so, to make sure I'm getting this, put cap on scale, and the extra weight will make it pick up the 0.1 going inside the bottle?
Yup, if it reads 1.00 before, it will read around 1.10 after, whereas it might not even have registered the 0.1 grams if zeroed out. Scales tend to resist tiny changes in that state, but not after they have registered a change. You can't expect it to read 0.01 grams super accurately though, there's always a slight margin of error.
I'm planning on mixing /u/ID10-T's Pina colada. I can only find Inawera shisha pineapple, does anyone know if this is the same as regular Inawera pineapple?
If not, is it an ok substitute?
Based off this review I would say no. Sounds like a shitty flavor.
Have you looked at BCF yet? They have it in stock.
I'm in the UK and I'm trying to get everything from chefs flavours, to avoid paying double shipping :/
Thanks for the heads up about it not being great though.
Inawera Pineapple is in stock at Rainbow Vapes. Link here
I've used them for the majority of my recent orders in the UK (since they expanded their stock), and they're very reliable.
Thanks! I have made my monthly order now, so i'm gonna give it a go next month.
On the bright side, I've ordered the stuff to make Longing, Coop's Kiwi Bourbon, God Milk, Butter Almond Custard and Ardent
Thanks /u/ID10-T /u/Loonicorn420 and /u/Coop34 (Sorry I don't know skiddlzninja or krucial's reddit usernames)
Looks like it's going to be a good month!
Awesome! I am excited people are actually trying the Ardent. Longing is such a good base. I have a bunch of flavors I want to try it with. I usually vape really in your face dessert recipes and it's such a delicate flavor. It's a nice change and I feel like that one recipe has opened up a whole new world of vaping for me.
So I've been holding off purchasing my scale, because it's been selling on Amazon for ~$33, which is a good bit higher than it typically gets. It's back down to $23.57, which isn't much higher than the historical low - it's actually cheaper than it went all last holiday season. Figured I'd post here with a heads up for new folks like myself!
EDIT: lol, I'm dumb and just assumed everyone has the damned thing bookmarked already or something. It's available here: https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-LB-501-Digital/dp/B005UGBG20
I waited for it too, two day shipping should've gotten it here yesterday, they still haven't shipped it out :/
Sigh, Amazon Prime is usually pretty good about getting things out. Once it actually gets sent out (or if it hasn't gone out by tomorrow) make sure you message them on the site, they'll give you a free extra month for the delay. If you actually paid for expedited shipping (like if you don't have Prime) they should refund the whole shipping cost as an Amazon credit. Small favor when you're anxiously awaiting something, but it's better than a kick in the teeth.
I have prime, I wouldn't mind a free month though :). The initial email they sent me said it would be here by Wednesday, it shows the 7th on Amazons site now very frustrating.
Edit: actually I just looked again, my bottles were due Wednesday (they made it). It showed the 7th from the get go.
I'm looking for a "bitter herbal" flavor - to use at the bottom of tea recipes for example. Not soap or dirt, but that "bitter plant" twang you get when you chew up a dried leaf. I will be giving FA Bitter Wizard a try, but was wondering what else might work.
I haven't tried yellow cake from FW because of the fructose or whatever that's in it, but I want to make Bronuts. What would be a good replacement? Would zeppola work?
I mixed different batches/recipes of strawberry cream. (strawberry shortcake bar; My dude remix of my man; strawberry cream) They all turned bad/muted flavor. I followed the exact flavors and percentage. steeped for 2 weeks. I got a very raw strawberry with a bitter taste and no creamy taste at all. Can any one suggest a more creamy base strawberry cream custard recipe before i go back to premium e juice? My all time favorite is vapemeet Toronor juice co. Madame and OMC. I love their custard line Captain Oilver as well. Is there a custard stone/base i can use? https://www.vapemeet.ca/collections/torontojuiceco/products/madame
Search this sub for "strawberry milks" from dirty, alltheflavors.com for "god milk", and "moo meadows remix" (moo fields? cant remember). All need 2 week MIN, best at 1 month. I rotate 100ml of at least 1 at all times. If you dont like at least 1 of those, then you are broken:)
I tried the moo remix didnt like it. I'm looking for a very creamy thick strawberry custard cream. I'm going to try EVERY recipe listed in the link below. I searched on this sub. Any recipe with vanilla custard v1 in it. Hope it will work. https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/2s3v9a/anyone_have_a_delicious_strawberry_custard/

What do you do when a mix goes wrong - how do you recover from mistakes?
In a seperate post, some awesome people helped me deduce I have some spicy old nic making me cough in some new juices I've made. For the worst ones, what can I do? Making up more juice to dilute could work, it could be a waste.
It took me a while to learn not to get hung up on fixing a bad mix. Sometimes it just doesn't work and you gotta dump it down the drain and start again. Some just need tweaking and are worth the time and energy, but don't waste time on "the worst ones."
Hi! Can I use "candyshop" flavours? When I say candy shop I mean big sweet stuff store like baking sweets and such.. I need to search for PG based flavours? Thanks and sorry for dumb question 😅
Stick to the flavors talked about in the sidebar and in highly-rated recipes you find in this sub and on ATF. Extracts can not be used and random brands may contain things you probably do not want to vape. You also will have no idea what percentage to use those random flavors.
The main brands are TFA, CAP, LA, FA, INW and FLV
TFA vs TPA - is there really a difference? I just put an order in this weekend and most of the flavors I picked up were TPA. Not that I'm worried, but I'd like to know from people's perspectives here. I went through diy-ejuice and it was either one or the other.
SCALE vs SYRINGE - Am I crazy or did I notice that most mixers are rounding off their additives to 1g per drop? And are we assuming the published weight per drop of the liquid is accurate? Also, when we're looking at such small amounts (under half gram) wouldn't things be off from the published recipe (I'm talking about precision). Is it worth going the scale method if I'm only mixing 120ml bottles for personal use?
TFA and TPA are the same thing. The Flavor Apprentice is the branch out company from The Perfumers Apprentice, which made scents for perfumes. When they first started selling food flavorings they went by TPA and later changed to TFA.
I have no idea what you're talking about with the rounding. If you're referring to people using 1drop/10-30ml then that is kinda like rounding. Most people use PG weight for all their flavors instead of manually entering each flavoring weight. Scale is always easier and faster than using syringes.
Thanks! I appreciate the info. Disregard the rounding off question, you actually gave me the info I needed (PG weight for all flavors vs manually entering each flavoring weight.)
I know what you were getting at, and it bothers my lab training sooo much to ignore the differences in specific gravity when using weight to mix. It took me quite some time to finally convince myself that if everyone does it when creating recipes, it doesn't matter anyway.
Everyone here uses 1mL=1g for flavorings. Technically, more like water weight than PG weight. (1.000 vs 1.038) All popular recipe calculators that I know of use 1:1 as well. Specific gravity is used for VG, PG, and nicotine, but for flavoring purposes, 1:1 is a universally accepted method of weighing.
I've just started DIY and I've made up several 5ml sample recipes that are currently steeping. Once I've nailed them down and want to make larger batches, what amounts should I go with to have plenty of? I know there are multiple sizes I can mass produce but I'm wondering what you guys typically do? 250mls, 500mls, etc...
Once I make a 5ml and deem it worthy of making more I make a 30ml then I wait to see how often I vape it and then make a bigger size accordingly (anywhere from 100ml-1L) . So if it's something I use 1-2 drips a day I make 100ml , if it's something I'm using 20-40 drips a day I'll make a litre. Also short steeps vs long steeps is also something to take into consideration, long steeps you'd want to make more of , short steeps arnt such a big deal to make again if you make a smaller bottle.
If I can vape it all day long I make 120 mL if the steep time is less than a week or two and 240 mL if it needs an extra long steep time so I can get away with making it less often. If it is good but not an adv/edv for me I make 30 mL. Sometimes I only do 30 mL if it is a true s&v and is an adv/edv simply because I have a lot more 30 mL bottles than my larger sizes. I like @Diyalexh's answer!
500ml if it's a recipe that ages well, 120 if it doesn't. I make my trial batches in 30ml and try a few variations on a recipe and let them age and see which one is closest to what I'm aiming for. Buy amber glass bottles from Amazon(make sure the 500ml has the polycone cap). 30ml and 500ml. 120ml pet bottles from bullcity. Amber Glass bottles are nice for long term storage and trial mixing. The 120s from BC are just cheap and I throw like 3 or 4 of em on each order, just to have.
I have a friend who has a life threatening milk and egg allergy. Does anyone know if any of the chemical compounds in cream based flavours are derived from any real milk protein? Her allergies are so severe that less than a tsp. would put her into anaphylactic shock
Read over this post as it seems to be what you're after.
Do you guys leave any PG/VG out ready at room temp at all times so you don't have to wait for it to warm up? Will it discolor if I start doing that?
Do people have taste preferences for vg/pg from different manufacturers? Or is it relatively the quality of the product created that makes the difference between a good juice and a bad one?
This is just my personal opinion.
I have tried a few different companies and they all taste the same to me. Some VG's are a tad bit thinner or thicker than one another but, generally, they all are the same.
The flavorings used and amounts used are going to be the biggest factors in if a juice sucks or not.
Ahh I gotcha. I order starter stuff from liquid barn and some flavors from bull city. Followed a recipe and it still turned out like shit. Just trying to eliminate possible factors of what could have happened. It could have just been a shitty recipe.
Post the recipe for the mixing masters here to review! You can also do some investigating by yourself by looking up the individual flavors to see if the average/most popular percentages fall in line with what your recipe is using. E.g. You see a flavor is used on average at 1.75% but your recipe has it at 3; that could be a cause for concern. I also am wary of recipes with a lot of flavors (8+?) unless I know and respect the mixer.
Kind of a weird question, but is there any secret to getting smaller drops out of your bottles? I find the average drop is usually ~.02g which can be too much when you're mixing a small tester at low percentage.
Either making a dilution of the flavor or making a bigger batch of the entire mix are your best bets. It's pretty much impossible to get a half drop from dropper bottles unless you barely squeeze and rub it on the rim of the bottle.
Yeah, that's been my experience, but I thought I'd ask in case anyone found a secret to it. When I'm working on a recipe a lot of times I'll mix up 4 or 5 small variations at a time, so I prefer to keep them small if I can.
I agree with Chewy... really you're talking about an extra couple cents per batch when moving from 5 to 15 ml batches. It takes the same amount of time to mix. I actually prefer to make 15 ml testers instead of 10 because this gives me enough to try it after one day, after 3-4 days, and after a week to see how it steeps.
Hello mixers new and old. I just signed up for ATF today finally and I have a question about licensing public recipes. Which option do most people select when making a recipe public?
I obviously want people to mix and enjoy it or I wouldn't make it public. I don't mind if other mixers sell juice to their friends and family. What I don't want is some corporate asshat to steal my recipe and make billions of dollars or for a company to sell it as a stone, or whatever they call them, and me not get the proceeds for it.
So which option do I pick on the licensing page on ATF?
If you are really worried about those asshats selling your recipes then don't post them publicly. Those licenses don't do anything. They are more so just feel good bullshit. Assuming you could prove a company stole your recipe they still would more than likely not give you any legal ground to stand on.
No special wording or phrases are going to stop someone from being a dick.
As others have said, the ATF copyrights are not really anything to worry about.
The problem with them is that there are two different categories of Intellectual Property Law coming into play here. Copyrights and trade secrets.
A recipe is copyrightable. When you publish a recipe, you automatically hold copyrights to it. You don't need to put a copyright mark next to it, or even register it. However, registering a copyright is super simple and opens up further damages in a lawsuit.
Unfortunately, this doesn't protect you from someone using your recipe to make their own juice and selling it commercially. The copyright protection in this case would be most useful in preventing someone from publishing a book or website of recipes that includes your recipe.
To keep someone from taking your recipe and using it to make juice commercially, you need to treat it like a trade secret. Trade secrets gain protection through being secret. Trade secrets really only have indirect legal protection (generally through non-disclosure agreements meant to punish employees engaging in corporate espionage). Once the cat is out of the bag, or if it is reverse engineered, other companies are free to use it.
Because you have to publish a recipe to gain copyright on it (to gain copyright, the intellectual property has to be in a tangible form), you cannot keep it a trade secret. You have to pick between the two. If you don't want companies selling your juice, keep it a secret and don't publish it. If you don't want someone publishing your recipe and making money off it (or at least without paying you), publish it and preferably register it.
Not exactly a new mixer but I'm seeing a lot lately of people mixing by weight over volume/syringe. Is weight really the preferred way of mixing to most?
I am fairly new to mixing - but it is way easier and nothing to clean. I mixed with syringe and measuring cylinder once and then paid $21 for some digital scales with 0.01g accuracy. Place bottle on scales, add juice, tare, add next ingredient etc.
> Is weight really the preferred way of mixing to most?
Yes. Everyone who has ever tried it never goes back to volume.
I get flavors in dropper bottles but what about ones in vials? Just dump in?
Hello everyone, I am currently waiting for my order to arrive. First time doing diy. I have a couple of recipes that I want to try out that were fairly popular at ATF and from advice order just those flavorings to start off.
I love banana flavors but didn't find a simple recipe that I can make with the ingredients I purchased.
Can anyone suggest something that I can make with these:
Dx banana cream
Dx Bavarian cream
Cheesecake graham crust
Vanilla swirl
VBIC
Strawberry
Strawberry ripe
Dragon fruit
All these flavors are from TFA
Does anyone have a recommendation for a scale? I know the LB-501 is recommended in the wiki, but I've seen some complaints on here about it. I'm new and am probably going to be mixing a lot of 10 ml bottles to try different recipes, so I want something fairly accurate. I've tried searching, but most of the posts were over a year old.
What complaints have you seen? I have not heard of any myself. It’s still the recommended scale.
I saw some complaints about reliability and it showing random weights/jumping around. I just wanted to make sure it was still recommended before buying it. Think I'm going to go ahead and get it. Thanks for the help.
I use the LB-501 and it has been pretty good for me. The only issue I have with it is if I am making 10 mL and I am mixing something with ingredients at like 0.25%. I always put my PG in first because it does seem to help it pick up those tiny increments when there's a little something in the bottle already. I saw a suggestion earlier to take that a step further and do the math to add your flavors instead of taring it out. I had the jumping around issue a few weeks ago when we were getting a lot of rain and the compressor on my dehumidifier had just broken. My basement was extra humid that night. It was super annoying but I have mixed several times since then when it was drier and it didn't do that. I am chalking it up to the humidity.
That's not good to hear about the humidity. I live in the southeast where it stays humid. I've already placed the order though, so hopefully it will be ok. If it turns out to be a problem I might try getting a dehumidifier.
I still haven't replaced mine. Eventually I will have to tho. But it's ok for now as long as a. we aren't getting a lot of rain and b. I am running either the ac or the furnace. My house has foundation issues so it can be pretty extreme without a little help from climate and/or humidity controls.
Hi people, it's been like a year or more i mix my own liquids, i have a good amount of pretty damn good recipes and clones, but i was NEVER able to mix a nice mother's milk. Any ideas recipes or what ever that can help me achieve something like that? I vape 70vg or more
Have you tried different strawberry and cream recipes?
Anyone of these would probably be better than that overrated mix. If you google then you can find quite a few clones of that recipe but I am willing to bet at least one of the mixes I posted you'll end up liking more.
It's funny because when I made this comment I was searching to give Mm a last clone attempt revenge and God Milk caught my eye in the process, now that you also linked it here I will for sure give it a try, thanks for helping
I’ve heard to store nicotine in the freezer. What about my flavors, VG, PG, and newly mixed juice?
I have a mini fridge, I was thinking to put the nicotine in the freezer section, and the rest of my DIY stuff in the main section of the fridge. I have it at the lowest power possible, so it’s not too cold in there.
Does the cold screw up the steeping for the newly mixed juices? I’ve heard of using heat to steep, would cold then be counteractive?
Keep your mixed juices in a In a cabinet away from sunlight, room temperature will do fine. The same goes for vg, pg and flavourings.
Hi, I'm a kinda newish mixer, and I would like to copy a recipe that I found. It is made from tpa's and cap's flavors, and those are easy to find here in Poland, but theres one - FA Meringue - which is not available here. Is there any good substitute to that (cause I wouldnt like to spent €45 just to get one flavor from Italy). And is there any difference with CAP's RF Sweet Straw and CAP's Sweet Straw?
TPA Meringue is very similar to the FA version. It's maybe a little weaker, but that's it.
The difference between RF and non-rf is that one of them contain ethyl alcohol.
Maybe check some of the EU vendors [here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/ecr_eu/wiki/vendors#vendors) they maybe ship to Poland, I know some of the UK vendors def ship to EU
But the point is, that Polish law forbids (theoretically) for vape stuff to be bought or sold outside of our borders, so I'm seeking for a replacement flavor to use in that recipe. Plus I'm not keen on paying kinda huge for me money to have a single flavor shipped to me (cause the rest of needed are easily available at local vendor's near where I live).
Hi, from the UK and looking to start making my own liquids. Would be grateful if someone could set me on the right path to get everything I need to start. I only like fruit flavours preferably fruit menthol flavours. A favourite is ruthless EZ duz it on Ice.
Hi so far I've only been mixing single flavours but am looking to branch out but am feeling a little out of my depth, can anyone help me out? I'm looking for a big fruity hit with 3mg nic, the concentrates I have are all from The Flavour Apprentice and are as follows: Grape Juice Ripe Strawberry Blue Rasberry Apple Bubble Gum Cotton Candy
Have you looked through Alltheflavors top rated recipes for things that sound good to you? That's the best way to start mixing in general. Buy flavors for recipes rather than what sounds good. You'll end up with a graveyard of shitty concentrates otherwise.
If you have your single flavourings left just play with them. Take the Blue Raspberry and mix it with Gum cotton candy 50%/50% or any other combination. Don't take it too serious just keep notes and as /u/chewymidget mentions visit alltheflavors for inspiration.
Okay, so I'm single flavor testing. Mixed the testers yesterday, doing it up at 1%, 3%, and 5%. For the sheer hell of it, on the last piece of wick, decided to try and rinse out the flavor (so to speak) with unflavored. Wanna see how tough it is to get out.
It became more true to profile.
I mean it tastes EXACTLY like it's supposed to.
During the test, it merely almost tasted like what it was supposed to.
Is this normal? If not, how the hell do i replicate it?
Just lower the percentage? You are thinning the flavour out by adding unflavoured so it should be that easy.
....that's just friggin odd, then. 3% was fainter to the flavor. 5 % was getting warmer, but not quite right. Why would an in between percentage be the answer?
shrugs
I'll wait two days like i planned and try it again. If the same thing happens, then yeah, 4% would be the answer i guess. Weird.
Should I be getting dispensing caps from bcf. Using a scale and I don't know if they come with droppers already on the bottles.
10 and 30ml come with drip tips. That option is for 4oz and up.

Anybody tested a nutmeg single flavour, or know of one that has prominent nutmeg notes? Planning a festive treat. :)
Not straight nutmeg, but check out FW Pumpkin Spice
Ooh thanks. How nutmeggy would you say it is? Do you know if it plays well with vanilla/cream/alcohol flavours?
I have a lot of flavor concentrates I want to sell (~400 bottles). ...is there a good reddit forum for that? I'd like to sell them as a bulk package, and preferably local to Nashville, TN. Wasn't sure where to post this question either, so I thought this might be an appropriate place.
Thanks.
What are your guys' experiences with adding sour to your mixes? My questions are:
1.) Who's sour do you use?
2.) How much or how little do you use?
3.) How long does it take (if at all) for the sour to come out and be noticable in a mix?
I would love to be able to pair some of my fruits and candies with a good punch of sour, you know, the kind that gets ya right in the saliva glands. Unfortunately the only sour that I have on hand currently is LB Sour, and it is no good to me. Use too little and it's unnoticeable, use too much and it imparts a horrid Tootsie roll flavor. Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.
Edits: formatting.
1.) I've used LorAnn's and TFA's and most of them are the same. Most companies either use citric acid, malic acid or a combination of both of them.
2.) I don't use it anymore. It gunks and mutes like sweetener. But when I did I used TFA Sour.
3.) The "Sour" flavor should be good right off the shake. The problem you're having is that you can't really create a sour flavor in vape form. The taste receptors don't really pick it up. There are a few juices out there that are legitimately sour and no one really knows how they do it. With the current sour additives out non of them really create the sensation. I'm not sure on LB's Sour but the others have the same sort of issues you listed. I've tried TFA Sour all the way up to 3% and the only sour I get is when the juice spit back into your mouth.
Maybe someone else has found the magic but last I heard it was still not attainable in vape form.
Well shit, that would explain the problems I've been having. Do you know of any flavors that, without sour additives, may give the sensation I'm looking for? I know it's a pretty broad-spectrum question, and I also know I could be chasing something that simply does not exist.
I use FA Sour Wizard 0.25%-0.35% but it's not crazy puckered lips sour, it's a hell of a lot better than tfa's sour. WF sour blue raspberry candy concentrate is the closest I've tasted in vape form.
I'm trying to make a pineapple menthol flavor but haven't ever used menthol before. What percent of menthol would you guys recommend to get a present but not overpowering menthol feel?
Do flavors ever spoil? I mixed up this recipe and while it smells great from the bottle, it tastes like straight up burning plastic to me when I vape it. The only flavor I hadn't used in other recipes before was the Lime Tahiti Cold Pressed, so I mixed up a single flavor of it, and that's definitely where it's coming from. Straight up unvapeable.
I bought this flavor from the RTS Vapes "going out of business" sale. Since they send their flavors in vials (super inconvenient), I transferred it to an extra plastic dripper bottle I had lying around. Wondering if that could have something to do with it, especially since it's a citrus flavor.
Edit: I guess what I'm really wondering is whether I should re-order this flavor, or write it off as one that doesn't work for me. I haven't had similar problems with other lime flavors, including Lime Tahiti Distilled.
That flavor separates and you have to shake it up real hard every single time you use it. Seems most likely that it sat too long in some kind of container at RTS and then that container wasn't shaken or otherwise mixed up good before they dispensed it to you. Do flavors ever spoil? I dunno, probably. But they definitely use their potency over time. And it could also be the bottle. Though most likely sounds like a separation issue. I find LT CP to be a good straight-up lime juice flavor, probably the most natural lime-juice tasting flavor I've had, and definitely not at all like burning plastic.
I know it seems VERY VERY stupid that I have to make a MASSIVE post like this INSIDE of a thread. But, the mods are VERY uptight here, so no matter how unbelievably silly this is... here we are. I hope I didn't take the time to compile this list, only to have it buried in a thread that nobody will see, because the mods won't let me make a post on its own.

Unfortunately, I've been looking for a cream(but couldn't find one that got good reviews with tobacco). And I'm still looking for "Tobacco Symphony". The MAIN reason I'm buying this stuff is to clone the Duke(that's how it all started). Sadly, I can't even find the flavours(because I can't find Tobacco Symphony) for that ONE clone, even when I'm willing to shop at TWO big vendors.
I just feel like I'm wasting tons of money here, on stuff I don't need, and I'm not even getting the stuff I want. I want TOBACCOs, and I don't even have that many on this list. I've spent probably upwards of 30 hours looking for good tobaccos, but have no way of telling. On websites, the reviews are 5 stars for pretty much ever flavor there, so reviews are useless.
I'm on a VERY limited budget. I'm buying all of this with the intention of it SAVING me money. SAVING money is the primary goal here. Some tips would be appreciated. I'd certainly like to get this down to below $80. But, I will NOT have an opportunity to buy more flavors in the future... so I'd rather spend more now, than have to make a second order, that I won't be able to afford.
Main Questions:
1.) Need Cream.
2.) Need Tobaccos.
3.) Need to eliminate a Chocolate, or two... but it's the most important flavor next to tobacco, so don't want to be stuck with 1 or 2 bad ones, then I can't make chocolate tobacco mixes.
4.) Need Tobacco Symphony(don't know WHAT to do about this. Can't make Duke clone without it. It used to be sold at EcigExpress when I first made the list... but then it went out of stock... and now it's completely gone from their website).
5.) Don't know if my bottle purchases make sense.
6.) Don't know if my syringe purchases make sense.
7.) Don't know if my Flavors/Tobacco Flavors/PGVG/Nicotine ratio is correct in this order. Don't want to be stuck with tons of leftovers, because I run out of one substance way too early.
8.) Trying to save as much money as possible. Coupon codes for these vendors, or an idea for a new vendor is appreciated.
9.) I bought the smallest quantity of every flavor. Is this a good idea? Should I buy higher quantities of some flavors? I'm scared to buy a lot of one flavor, because ANY of them could be complete garbage, considering Reviews are basically all 5 stars, regardless of the flavor. Really clueless on this, and how long 10ml of flavoring will last.
10.) I've already spent MANY hours compiling this list. I'm starting to get impatient, as I'm running out of E-juice, and will need this to be shipped soon. I'm really not trying to read 20 pages at this point. I've already devoted so much of my life to this. I just want it to be shipped so I can start mixing... I just don't want to end up regretting my order, considering I can't make a second, due to financial limitations(no job).
So I am looking everything over a bit closer, and I think your goal and your budget are going to be in a pretty big battle with each other. I agree that you should probably shoot for the kit at Nic River, then add on some FLV to top it off. If you’re dead set on that Duke clone exactly how I made it (assuming you’re using mine), then you’re going to need to order from 3 different places unless you want to completely scrap that Nicotine River order.
So what I would do: get the kit from Nic River, and get the FA Caramel and Acetyl Pyrazine through there. Throw some HS Australian Chocolate in with those 15 flavors. Add on your FLV stuff, and include FLV Cured. Go to ecigexpress and pick up the Hongtashan and the other FE flavors. Make the Duke like:
Hongtashan- 3%
Acetyl Pyrazine- 1.5%
FA Caramel- 2%
FLV Cured- 1.25%
Just a few days ago I put together a shopping list for someone looking to get in to DIY with that starter kit. I gave him recipes for every flavor I recommended, but you’ve got some slightly different goals. If you’re interested just hit me up and I can try that for you if you go with the kit. Just to make sure the recipes don’t suck, I’ll even mix them up to test them out. Hell, I’ll send you samples of them. Let me know.
You're good people, CBV.
After you're done helping this guy, can you come help me pull this veritable LOG of a stick out of my ass so I won't be so uptight?
honestly, if you're gonna do the syringes and what not, I'd order the starter kit at nic river. 50 bucks, gets you the labware, the 60ml bottles, the pg, vg, and nic, and 15 flavors, many of which i saw on your list at ecig. frankly you'd be able to scale them back to...the fe flavors, and mebbe the inawera and bottles, cutting your cost there.
Hmm, I would, but I'm scared of non-glass bottles honestly. I'm one of those people who is scared of chemicals leeching. I've seen some posts of people who kept flavors/mixes in "plastic"(non-glass) bottles, and that the bottle had been partially dissolved.
Other than that, I would have chosen that kit, so thanks.
E: Disregard, your initial shopping list looks fine. Go all in, I'm sure you won't regret it.
> 1.) Need Cream.
TFA Bavarian cream is godly. FA Vienna cream is useful.
> 3.) Need to eliminate a Chocolate, or two... but it's the most important flavor next to tobacco, so don't want to be stuck with 1 or 2 bad ones, then I can't make chocolate tobacco mixes.
Drop INW milk chocolate. it was reformulated and mostly tastes like bandaids now.
> 5.) Don't know if my bottle purchases make sense.
Looks fine but the general rule is to buy more bottles than you think you need. you can re-use glass but i've always found that it's cheaper in the long run to buy 50-100 LDPE bottles at a time. it's also really helpful to have larger LDPE Dispensing bottles for your VG and PG. at least 120ml. Nicotine is best kept in the freezer to prolong life but it's a good idea to keep a working 30ml bottle of nicotine out so that you don't have to wait for it to thaw every time you want to mix.
> 6.) Don't know if my syringe purchases make sense.
don't bother mixing by volume. It's good practice to have pipettes around in case the flavors you buy don't come in dropper bottles. buy a scale.
> 7.) Don't know if my Flavors/Tobacco Flavors/PGVG/Nicotine ratio is correct in this order. Don't want to be stuck with tons of leftovers, because I run out of one substance way too early.
It doesn't say how much VG/PG you're buying but buy more VG than PG. I don't know much about tobacco flavors. are you basing your other flavor purchases off recipes or ideas? the nicotine should be ok. a higher MG would be better and last longer. with 36mg you'll need to use 2.5ml in a 30ml mix to reach 3mg/ml but only .9ml for 100mg/ml base.
> 8.) Trying to save as much money as possible. Coupon codes for these vendors, or an idea for a new vendor is appreciated.
check out gremlinDIY. they're good people.
> 9.) I've already spent MANY hours compiling this list. I'm starting to get impatient, as I'm running out of E-juice, and will need this to be shipped soon. half of this hobby is reading those 20 pages, i think you'll be disappointed if you rush it.
your best option, to save the most money and come out with something you like, is to follow one or two well reviewed recipes and buy those flavors to start with. hopefully one of the tobacco enthusiasts here will point you in the right direction.
it's also worth mentioning that most coffee flavors are garbage. though i don't know if those specific ones are horrible i'm probably not too far off.

Didn't look very hard though. and i don't know anything about buying directly from INW.

Vapers Tek has Tobacco Symphony, INW Tobacco Absolute Garuda, INW Tobacco Absolute Virginia, INW Tobacco Absolute Oriental (very hard to find in stock anywhere else), INW Gold Ducat, and INW Sweet King is pretty creamy and good with tobaccos. This weekend they have a sale. Inager35 gets you 35% off, and shipping is $2.77.
Didn't read your whole post, but the noted podcast has three episodes going through all of the best tobacco flavors and explaining their uses. Imo it's the definitive info source for finding tobacco concentrates that might work for you. Such a great source of info. So lucky to have it available to the community.
Hi Guys, Any experience here with TFA Pistachio? Is it still as good as the reviews say it is, even though those reviews are now a year or two old. In addition, I found a video somewhere of enyawreklaw, and he was saying that something happened to TFA Pistachio; it changed somehow and now requires to be used in more percentage than it was before.
Do you think WF Pistachio cream would be a decent substitute for it?
thanks for your help here guys.
Maybe this will help you out: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/662iu8/have_a_question_i_mustachio_whats_the_flavor_of/
Yeah... I saw that and went through it before I posted. But my recipe is using 9% tfa pistachio and the flavour is very muted and harsh on the throat without nicotine. The recipe is for a pistachio Ice cream and I want it to taste like the candied pistachio like everyone says is the taste of tfa pistachio. I am also using 3%tfa vbic, 1% tfa marshamallow, 0.5% ethyl maltol, 1% cap whipped cream, and 1% fa meringue. Could be that there is muting happening somewhere. But for the life of me I can't figure it out. Thanks so much for your help here.
On one of Wayne's videos he talks about using pistachio as an enhancer for butterscotch flsvorings, maybe that'll work in the opposite way as well? Maybe try using a low percent of a butterscotch flavor and see if it does anything special for the pisachio notes? Maybe someone with more experience could weigh in on this idea? I have yet to try it but plan to soon, I have had similar issues with TFA pistachio being rather weak and hard to work with.
Just received my nice new batch of flavours. Chefsflavours.co.uk had a little sale section so purchased a couple of flavours I'd not normally try. Well........3 of said flavours are black, not slightly coloured....im talking black as night. They are
- TFA pancake
- CAP pancake syrup
- TFA fudge brownie
Checked out some reviews and this seems to be the standard with these flavours but holy hell I've never seen anything like it! So, any of you guys used these successfully?
Are there any websites that sell large packs of a bunch of flavourings? I want to try a bunch of new ones
Like at a discounted “pack” price or something? You could just fill a cart up with everything you want to try. If you’re interested in Inawera, Vapers Tek has a sale on them this weekend. Inager35 for 35% off.
Bull City has recipe packs that I believe have a bit of a discount.
I have 42 flavors, and All The Flavors is saying there’s two recipes I can make. What should I buy to expand this number? Is there a resource out there where I can see what I’m missing? I know the first question is impossible to answer, I’m just looking for suggestions. Also, how can I flavor shop more effectively? I originally thought that simply buying more flavors would equal more possible recipes. Clearly I was wrong...
Yes. I can tell you exactly what to do.
Go back to ATF and hit the "What Can I Make" again.
Now go over to the filter, get that drop down menu.
Scroll down until you see where "my flavors" is checked.
Change that to "+1"
Now click on the magnifying glass.
What happens?
I get 30 recipes, and understanding of how to further expand my repertoire. Thank you very much, I think I’m gonna go to +2 and compile a shopping list :) is there any best source if I want to buy a wide range of flavors, from multiple manufacturers? I’d like to get them all from one site to get free shipping. Thanks again!
Bull City Flavors my to-go. If they don't have everything you want, you might try Nicotine River, Ecig Express,Wizard Labs, Gremlin DIY, DIY Vapor Supply, Flavor Place... take your pick. Sometimes it's hard to find everything you want at one place.
+2 should bring up a ton of stuff. Might want to go back to the filter and short that by "rating."
THANK YOU.
Never understood what the hell that did, and honestly, never thought to click it. sighs the ONE time i avoid my instinct for "What does THIS button do?"
So I’ve been mixing a few different recipes this week, mostly pulled from the ELR site, all with great reviews.
I tried searching the sub to find some answers but couldn’t really find super pertinent info. My apologies if I simply didn’t see it.
The recipes I’ve been making have generally been a strawberry candy recipe.
I’ve made various attempts using TFA strawberry ripe, & TFA strawberry milkshake. Been following recipes to the T.
Anything I try, it simply tastes bland as a shake and vape. Really looking for an intense strawberry jelly candy like vape. Thinking about giving one of the amazing strawberries and cream recipes a try from this sub.
Any helpful tips? Steep times? Recipe suggestions? I’d really like a great strawberry SNV.
Have you tried anything using TFA Strawberry (not Ripe), CAP Sweet Strawberry, JF Sweet Strawberry, INW Shisha Strawberry, or RF(SC) Strawberry?
The recipes I’ve been using have called for TFA strawberry ripe. I think I’ve got some CAP sweet strawberry on hand I could try instead?
I'm a noobie but I can say that FA Strawberry (red touch) combined with CAP strawberry sweet creates a heavenly strawberry flavor imo. Also, lots of people say inw shisha strawberry tastes quite jammy. Also, FA black currant added to another fruit can give a jam/jelly effect - Fresh03 swears by that flavor.
This is the recipe I was referring to that called for strawberry ripe and strawberry milkshake https://imgur.com/gallery/6hPKC
You can’t shake n vape with RF VG flavors. Those require steeping. That’s an unnecessarily complicated recipe IMO. Part of the problem with ELR is that it contains a bunch of people who don’t know what they are doing.
Thanks for the tip! Did not know that about RF VG flavoring. Considering it has two RF flavors in it, would make sense why it’s bland. In regards to ELR, that’s also helpful. I’m not completely new to DIY, but might as well be. Would you recommend a different site for recipes, or simply pull recipes from this sub to get mixes that are actually going to produce what I want?
Yep. In addition, those RF VG flavors aren’t very good. Generally speaking, RF flavors kind of suck, but the SC versions (non VG) have some definite winners.
As far as sites go, this sub is a wonderful research, and All The Flavors is a good recipe site. It’s much cleaner and has none of the BS that ELR does.
Another tip I hear is apparent essential, is that you need to heat up those VG concentrates before mixing and that makes a huge difference. I assume it helps make the juice less thick and easier to shake up, preventing seperation and flavor hot spots.
Can someone recommend a replacement for the much loved FW Hazelnut? I don’t know what it is but I can’t stand this flavour, I find it brings to many things to the table, it’s too rich, too sweet, too creamy and I find it completely dominates a lot of subtleties in a recipe.
I’m thinking FA but let me know your thoughts.
So I have been reading up a lot about DIY and searching around for cheap ingredients and I'm having a hard time finding the cheapest supplier. I figure I can get more bang for my buck buying everything separately rather than a kit as I only really need the syringes as far as tools go. I've searched this thread and google and I can't seem to find out what the cheapest supplier is currently for vg/pg nic and tfa flavors. I'm kinda doing this on a budget. I was looking on ebay but would rather order it from one company to save on shipping.
No eBay. You don’t know where those flavors are coming from. It really is going to depend on where you live. I recommend you skip the syringes and mix by weight instead.. Nicotine River is probably your best bet if you are stateside. Don’t limit your self to TFA only flavors. You’ll want to find recipes before you choose your flavors.
I've done a lot of math on this (although I suck at math) but even with the Halloween sales, nobody beat Nic River (even though they didn't have a sale!) This is including shipping too, I didn't get the free shipping from Nic River this last time. They are just consistently cheaper than the rest on 90%+ flavors, their nicotine is good, and they have been (so far) reliable on shipping.
I've also kept notes on shipping times since I'm new and trying to find my "go to" supplier. Here's what happened:
-Nic River (4 orders) average 4 days
-Gremlin (1 order) 4 days
-Ecigexpress (1 order) 3 days
-Nude Nicotine (1 order) 20 days
-Carolina Xtracts (1 order) 4 days
So for an extra day I save $10-$20 depending on how large my order is. If it's over $60 and I get free shipping from Nic River, I save even more. There's no question in my mind who to buy from, plus, I like how NR puts pics on their flavor bottles, it makes it so much easier to see for an old fogey like myself who wears glasses.
The fa for tfa really threw me off because I couldn't read it lol
don't mean to sound like i'm getting paid by them or anything, but that starter kit from nicotine river really works. $50, and with the cost of the nic, pg, vg, labware, and bottles taken out of it, the 15 flavors breaks down to like $0.37 each if you use the coupon "welcome" (knocks like 2.50 off). add one more flavor into the order and boom, free shipping.
Best bang for the buck I've found yet.
You'll regret the suringes, I got them because I was broke, huge mistake. The scale is back down to $22 if you can afford it, strongly suggest you get it. Turns a 20 minute job into 5 minutes if that. If you really can't afford it, put some tape around your suringes, or mark them with a better marker or something. The numbers and lines will rinse off after 2 or 3 cleanings.
I'm trying to make Grack Juice but I cannot find INW Grape, are there any subs for it?
So I really love vaping fruit only flavors when they are sour. I heard that it isn't really possible to make a sour vape flavor but I know this isn't true. Vango vapes has created a line of sour juices that are actually really sour. Also, flavor snobz made a sour lemon flavor that was also quite sour. So I'm just wondering if anyone knows how they have achieved this? I don't care if it will make my coils funky fast, I can make that sacrifice for a truely sour flavor.
If it helps, I heard a rumor that VanGo vapes mainly uses Chinese flavorings to keep down production costs - could they be using some kind of Chinese concentrate that isn't well known yet?
They are most likely using something not available to the public. Everything I have ever read about sour juices is that it’s not possible/extremely difficult to do when mixing your own.
I've tried to make mixes "sour" but haven't had much luck. Closest I've gotten is with FA Sour Wizard 0.25%-0.35% and even then it's not make your lips pucker sour or anything close. WF makes a sour blue raspberry candy concentrate that is actually the closest thing I've tasted. I wonder what they use for the sour effect.
I'm about to mix up a Nanner Bear clone but I'm stumped on how it could be a Max VG juice when I'm making it at 12mg nic. When I enter it in the calculator I can only get just above a 50/50. Do I gotta order a VG based nic since I have a PG based nic? I'm new to all of this keep in mind. I'm shooting for 70/30. He said when he posted the recipe that "the recipe has no added PG. It's approximately 81/19 VG/PG." So he just mixed it with only VG?
Max VG means nothing except for no added PG besides the flavors.
Thats what I figured. So just use the flavors in the recipe, add nic and fill with VG?
You can make the juice at whatever ratio you want to mix it. The ratio that the creator posted the recipe as shouldn’t make a difference. You just change the variables in the calculator and use what it spits out. But before you do mix it, what’s the recipe? Because it may not be a great recipe.
What is the difference between TFA Smooth and MTS Vape Wizard? Which is "better"? Which is more helpful? Is one harder to use then the other as far as causing any off flavors or turning weird with certain flavors? or are they basically the same thing?
I've read the descriptions and they seem pretty similar as far as "enhancing flavors" and "smoothing out harsh tones" (except one "might" have fruity undertones and the other that's not mentioned.)
MTS is probably harder to use because it has more stuff in it than TFA Smooth so there are more possibilities for a bad reaction between it and whatever you're adding it to, but they're pretty similar. MTS is really good for doing what it says it is going to do, making things thicker and smoother. TFA Smooth is more smoothing out harsh notes and emulsifying without the thickening. Both are as likely to ruin your recipe as fix it though by over smoothing (muting) your flavors. Both can be fun to play with. But I wouldn't recommend them unless you've already ruled out other ingredients that could easily do the same things, like TFA Whipped Cream, Marshmallow, Dragonfruit, etc.
Is there a reason why 100mg/ml nic can't be shipped via air while 48 mg/ml nic can?
That concentration is considered Hazmat by DoT/FAA as far as I know.
I suppose my clarification would be, will nic at 48mg not be considered hazmat anymore? I only saw nicotine river's statement on the matter. Can't find any info about less. I assume it is so, and is safe to ship, even internationally, but just double checking.
Hi. Just wondering is there anywhere- in the UK or Europe- I can order Hangsen flavours? Specifically French Vanilla ice cream and Italian cream. It only seems to be available in the U.S. through Bull City Vapors. Was googling for ages.
Cheers in advance.
Might try this and see if any places on that map sell their flavors.
Cheers for the link! Had tried their uk store but they only sell juices and not flavour concentrates.
Is this what you are looking for? https://www.cig-eliquid.co.uk/DIY_e-liquid_Flavours/cat649231_1182624.aspx
Hello, If I buy something like this from Nic river, all I need to add is my flavors, correct? What I'm buying is a 50/50 pg/vg mix with 18mg nic that's really just unflavored juice ready to vape as is or add flavor, right?
https://www.nicotineriver.com/collections/e-liquid-nicotine/products/18mg?variant=33089734862
Not really, adding flavorings will lower your nic levels and change the percentages for your VG/pg. Read the side bar, it's super helpful explaining what you need to diy.
Thank you. This would be the correct product though if I just wanted to vape unflavored, yeah?
Hi guys, I'm trying to find a thread on how steeping effects flavors by category. For example I've noticed on the few fruits that I've mixed so far that they all seem to have a harsh grassyness or harsh citrus to them until they settle down after a few days steep. I haven't had any luck finding anything on this exactly, does it very to much from flavor to flavor? I was looking for this wondering if creams fade or become more prevalent in a mix over time, or does the taste of the cream just change but hold the same percentage of the taste?
The basic steeping guidelines apply by flavor profile, though this may differ depending on the flavors used.
Can you elaborate a little? Or help point me to some more in depth info? I really want to learn more about this, but my searches even though the side bar only come up with people asking about speed steeping (not helpful lol)
Im trying to gather flavors for my next two mixes and noticed Bull City doesn't have Eggnog or Red Burley, or Rich Cinnamon in stock. I'd rather use them over anyone else because they are so close to me and was gonna wait until they had the Black Friday sale before I placed my order anyway. Do y'all think they may be reup'd on those flavors by then?
Hello, I've always bought the cheap stuff, will doing DIY still save money? I would assume, yes.
Say when mixing a batch, 120ml for instance, can you add it all together, then divide it into 4 30ml bottles or is it better for each bottle to be it's own fresh recipe?
Nicotine: I plan on buying a smaller bottle to start..Just keep it in fridge and take it out when ready to mix?
I saw some of the stores sell beakers. I thought one would be handy for adding ingredients then transfer to bottles. Thoughts?
Sorry if some of this has already been asked.
Thank you
EDT: is the Nicselect from liquid Barn reliable?
It’s a safe bet that it’ll be cheaper.
For larger batches it is fine to mix a big one and separate in to smaller bottles, but you’ll want to let it steep in the big batch before you transfer it.
Small bottle of nicotine in the fridge should be fine. I transfer mine in to 30 ml glass bottles and keep my working bottle on my desk and the rest in the freezer. Never have it go bad in the time it takes to use the room temp bottle.
If you mix by weight you won’t need any beakers. Just mix right in to the bottle you’ll use. It can be a pain in the ass transferring juice from a beaker to a bottle. Just easier to go right in to the final bottle.
Hello! I️ got into vaping 2 months ago and I️ discovered that people make their own juice just recently. I’m quite interested as I️ can make my own flavors without having to search for them online. What are all the materials I️ need to start making my own juice and where would I️ get all the materials? How much will I️ be initially spending to get started? Also if anyone can help me make a lychee flavored juice that would be great. Thanks guys really happy that I️ quit smoking. Vaping has been one of the best things ive decided to do.
Going through here will answer most of your questions about getting started. In short, you need VG, PG, flavors, nicotine, and bottles. Highly recommend you get this scale as well. If you don’t want to mix by weight to start off (though, again, it’s highly recommended) you’ll need syringes to measure. Depending on how deep you want to dive in, you can get started for probably $50-$100.
For flavors, search ATF and get flavors from highly rated recipes. You can search recipes for “lychee” and sort by rating.
Starting out, what base for nic is recommended PG or VG 50/50, 70/30, etc?
Edit: guess from LB, it's either VG or PG
