Quick question about staggered steeping for you fine folks. By that I mean, for eg., like how creams will "peak" after steeping for 14 days. But something fruity will "peak" after only a couple of days but lose its "punch" over time.
Is it worth the trouble/scheduling to mix the creamy parts of a recipe first, let it steep for say 12 days. Only adding fruits to it a couple days before you expect the creams to peak at 14 days?
Know what I mean? Am I overthinking it?

I personally think this is a good idea.. I have a 750ml bottle of Cap VC1 6% as a base that’s been steeping for at-least a month which is where I like it..I then add my fruits to this base as I go and it’s a shake and vape blueberry/strawberry/peach custard etc.. when my bottle gets down to half I add an additional 6% VC to the mother bottle and repeat the process... it’s been working for me ...
Overthinking it. The "peaking" occurs when all the flavors have mixed together fully. If anything I'd imagine that adding the fruit flavors later to a mixture of your creamy flavors would just make the recipe taste differently than the creator intended for the first few days, then after a few days it would taste the same as the all-at-once version anyways. Just seems like a waste of time.
I'm glad you asked this, as I'd wondered something similar - I'd thought about making a big batch of cream base, with the intent of adding fruits later. I had it in my head that I'd be able to turn some of my favorites into something a little more shake and vapey. I might do it any way (I'm kind of dumb and often have to learn things the hard way.) I'll respond here if I ever end up giving it a try.
That sounds like a great way to do it. Instead of mixing too much of something you'll get sick of and having to wait another two weeks for more creams(or w/e) to set. All the while Hate-Vaping what's left, lol.

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone could give me some tips on getting a "deep fried" effect in a bakery recipe? If i wanted to make a deep fried yellow cake for example, how could i make the cake taste deep fried? Like a nice warm crust with a bit of residual greasyness and that crunchy fried batter flavor.
also wf has a deep fried pastry dough that is pretty good for that.
Look up /u/Mlnikon review on Donut by Solubearome. She mentions some greasy/fried notes that you might be able too utilize in your recipe.

No one stateside carries them (yet) so your best bet is Chefs. The shipping price is about $6.50 and it definitely takes longer than BCF but you can find a whole lot of stuff there that's much harder to find across the pond.

My last stuff before that was darkstar but when I went to get out of the freezer it was bad very very bad smell, and didn’t taste good and then the replacement was the same so don’t want to try them again.

Sorry to hear that source has closed for you, then I have nothing to suggest. I'm curious about the nic from your freezer though, did you smell it before you put it in there? It won't degrade in the freezer but it might have separated to some extent. Did you let it come to room temperature and then shake the hell out of it? Concentrated low quality nic will smell foul but properly dispersed in the base it might be usable if you have no other option.
To be honest I can’t remember smelling when it went to the freezer I just wanted to get it stored.
I let it come to room temp and allways shake the hellout of any store nic (don’t want a syringe full of concentrated)
The freezer stuff was all refunded now and I’ve still got some good nic left just looking for other good sources for when I next need some.
I'm afraid you might be out of luck then. I think Nicotine72mg might have been the last ones selling under a claim that it was a loophole to state that the nic was not for consumption, seems the authorities shut them down. The UK is still affected by the TPD in spite of Brexit, which limits you to 20 mg/ml in 10 ml bottles.

I'm just glad that I finally managed to get down to 6mg /ml - looks like I'll have play around with 3mg / ml.
Just wondering if there is a spreadsheet or any info on certain concentrates recommended steeping time. Just from searching around I've learnt about a few and know certian types of flavorings take longer... But also know there are some acceptions (like how most custard concentrates take about 1 month to steep filly, but inw custard seems to need only 2ish weeks).
Assuming there isn't any list, could you guys give me a recommended steep time for a few concentrates I've mixed up recently: cap cake batter, cap sugar cookie, fa custard, OoO milky undertones, cap butter cream.
Lastly, will certain flavors steep times change when mixed up in a recipe. Like, say cap van custard takes 1 month to fully mature, If I mixed it up with another concentrate like cap sugar cookie, would the steep time change at all or would I just need to steep for 1 month (or however long the slowest steeping concentrate in my mix takes to fully mature)
The general guide line most people use is the following.
Fruits - 0-3 days. To calm down or cut the harsh edges off it might need 5.
Light creams - 3-7 days
Custards 15-30 days. Really depends on the flavor.
Tobaccos - 30-60 days. Depends on the manufacturer, FLV tobaccos are more shake and vape friendly.
There isn't a public spread sheet as this is kinda subjective and some like to let mixes sit longer than others. For the flavors you have I would say a week. Most mixes steep time will go off of a certain flavor needing to sit for a while rather than the combination of flavors used together. 7-14 days seems to be a good general time for most of everything you'll mix. Remember this is all subjective to an extent, try it after a while and if it tastes good then vape it. If not wait a while longer.
I want to make a nice eggy recipe, and am just curious which concentrates you would consider the most eggy. I know custards are eggy but which one takes the cake as the egg king haha. Any other concentrates worth checking out?
FA Custard and FA Meringue are very eggy.
I read that FA meringue went through some type of reformulation - apparently it used to have some strong egg white notes but now its more of a caramelized marscapone type deal? Or did they keep the eggyness and just add in some lightly caramelized notes as well?
Gonna have to do another single flavor test on that one, its been about a year and half since my first SFT on that flavor.
Has anyone tried Carter's jungle juice? I just tried it and their jungle on ice, and the ice has become my adv. I can't place what fruits they have in there, and the only jungle juice concentrate I know of is flavor West jungle juice, but I've never had it. Any help to get something close to this would be appreciated.
Ok, so I already placed my first order on Nicotine River - got the starter kit and a bunch of extra flavors. All in all, I got a liter of VG base, 7000mg of nicotine, a beaker, a graduated cylinder, some gloves, some syringes, a bunch of 30mL bottles, and these flavors:
CAP Sweet Strawberry, CAP Vanilla Custard v1, CAP NY Cheesecake v1, CAP Sugar Cookie v1, CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl v1, CAP Golden Pineapple, FA Fuji Apple, FA Fresh Cream, FA Lemon Sicily, FA Meringue, FA Forest Fruit, FA Vienna Cream, FA Caramel, LA Watermelon Colorless, and LA Cream Cheese Icing. I also picked up these TFA flavors: Marshmallow, Bavarian Cream, Graham Cracker Clear, Strawberry Ripe, Strawberry, Dragonfruit, Vanilla Swirl, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Raspberry Sweet, Double Chocolate Clear, Cotton Candy, and Sweetener.
I know I still need a scale and some pipettes before I get started. Will I need anything else? Did I do alright choosing my initial flavors? I've been mostly using Killer Kustard Strawberry, so my initial goal is just to be able to make some similar stuff and have a bunch of other flavors to play with and sample.
You either need a scale and pipettes OR syringes and beakers. You don’t need both. I would have suggested scale and pipettes for mixing by weight.
Have lots of paper towels on hand since you are mixing by volume. The way to choose flavors is to look for well-regarded recipes and order flavors based on those. No one else can critique your flavors since you are the one who knows what you want. But ordering flavors blindly is not the wisest thing to do when starting out.
The kit just came with that stuff, I'm quite content with not using the syringes except to doctor up some 0nic juice I'd purchased. I'd originally preferred volume because the idea of fudging specific gravity really bothered my lab training, but I finally came around to the idea that if everyone does it when creating recipes, it really doesn't matter.
I chose those flavors basically going down the first order flavors list, choosing the ones that sounded appealing to me that had the most recipes listed in ATF. Not sure that was really the best option, but I do have an awful lot of recipes listed in 'what can I make' and I still have money in the budget for larger versions of what I like, a few extra flavors I perhaps should have ordered to begin with, and a gallon of base.
I mostly just want someone to be like, "Nope, you didn't royally screw up your first order,' more than anything. This is new territory to me and my only real goal at this stage is to make a few hundred mL of vapeable juice. Particularly tasty would be nice, but I'm setting my sights low =p
honestly ya did pretty good on those flavorings. lotta flexibility there. Already see Mustard Milk by fizzmustard and cliche by skittlzninja, as well as Strawberry Cookie from Edible, and Mother of Dragon's MIlk from ID10-T. So, yeah. Bang on job.
Nope, you didn't screw it up. You really picked some solid flavors! All are staples to have, excepting chocolate IMO. But some like that one. Don't worry about scales at first, then you'll really appreciate them later:)
No PG? I highly recommend getting some. It is way better as a flavor carrier than VG.
Anyone tried a Bounty flavour/recipe? Referring to Bounty the chocolate bar. There’s a few on ELR was wondering if anyone had tried them.
TFA Coconut Candy should create a solid coconut base. It's the same type of coconut as a bounty.
Someone else should chime in on the chocolate, maybe TFA Double Chocolate (clear)

First of all thanks for a the information you all post here. It has really helped me start my DIY journey. So kudos to everyone. Thanks a lot. I just started DIY, and have a question regarding a recipe I tried. I tried to clone dewwyboba based on enyawreklaw's honeydewwy recipe. I wanted the vape to be creamier, more to the side of ice cream, wanted it to be sweet but did not want in your face honeydew flavour but more of a rounded creamy honeydew flavour.
What got me to this idea was that I think dewwyboba kills my coils too fast and is too sweet for me now.
So here's my question: what can I do to this recipe to make it creamier:
3% TPA honeydew 3% CAP Cabtaloupe 4% TPA VBIC 2% CAP VBIC 0.5% EM
I am now getting a very subdued honeydew flavor, and not as creamy as I would have hoped, plus a harsh throat hit. I let it steep for three days. Enyawreklaw's recipe said SNV approved. I mixed this at 70VG/30PG at 3% nicotine, actually slightly less than that.. In addition I am vaping this in petri v2, coil 0.3 ohms dual build at 45 watts.
Any help would be welcome.

TPA VBIC can be upped to get a creamier vape. Try it at 6 and skip the cap version maybe?
Maybe use a different cream base. FA Cream Fresh and FA Meringue at 2:1 ratio.

OK, I'm about two weeks away from my first DIY order. (I'm waiting to see if Bull Flavors / Wizard Labs / EXC has a Halloween sale.. but I can't wait all the way until Black Friday, as I'll need juice before then and I don't want to pay $20 for 30ml, again.)

I made sure to not add anything that had diecetyl warnings. One guy on ECR did suggest WS-23 to go with my menthol and WS-3 Koolada.. but the only place I see that has it is in the UK. I already have the sucralose in PG, but I don't think I'll use it. I think ethyl maltol will give me the little bit of cotton candy sweetness that I'm looking for with the blueberry menthol / blueberry cotton candy.. but I'm not certain. I have considered erythritol, but I don't even know what it really tastes like. I might pick up a vanilla flavor to see if I like it with the blueberry menthol, but I'm not certain about that, either. Oh, and I really hate spearmint / wintergreen.. so that's why peppermint is my only mint.
So.. any further suggestions, input or insights are welcome. Thank you for your time.
Skip the syringes. Get a scale and pipettes to measure by weight. People are scared of diacetyl because of fear-mongering. You are obviously free to mix however you want to, just saying that there’s nothing wrong with vaping flavors that contain diacetyl.
sounds good. Um for the ws-23, one stop diy shop has that in 30 ml from chef's for like...6 bucks? saves ya a ton on shipping, yeah? And way better'n paying $5 for 10ml at ecx.
You may want:
FA Lemon Sicily (it really perks up LA Lemonade)
TFA Circus Cotton Candy (the basic cotton candy is EM, this is supposed to be different, and will thus work better with other flavors)
I'd suggest buying Stevia powder and making your own sweetener out of that and PG, rather than sucralose.
There are a couple places in NA that have WS-23, can't remember them unfortunately.
are there any common household food items that can be used to sweeten juice? I made a first batch and I would like to make it much sweeter.
If you can find some pure stevia or pure sucralose you can use either of those, you'd need to find a tutorial on how to dilute the crystals into some PG. Maybe someone else on here has a good link to a tutorial. Make sure there is nothing else in it aside from the Ingredient you want. Sometimes its hard to find pure stuff.
i find 1 g in 10g of pg is a 10% solution? lemme double check my math...well, roughly at least, i know the actual weight of pg is a tough higher, but meh 1g=1mL. still 10%ish.
to slightly speed making the crystals meld into the solution, zap the bottle for 3 seconds in the microwave, then shake until the bottle is cool. repeat as needed until no more crystals. Made a quick and dirty citric acid solution this way in like 5 minutes.
This may help. Assuming you have pure stevia crystals at home.
How often do you experienced mixers make single flavor mixes that turn out to be good enough to vape as they are? A bit if back story; After ordering flavors based on recipes and using those flavors only for those specific recipes, I've recently started taking the individual flavor ingredients from these recipes and making mixes using just these single flavors. A few of them have turned out to be good single flavor mixes. I was wondering if this is common amongst other mixers? I know people suggest testing all of their flavors alone first before mixing them into recipes, previously I haven't been able to really do that based on a tight budget. Any thoughts from the crowd?
There are definitely a lot of flavors that are good by themselves but that tends to get boring after 10ml or so and then it's about coming up with ideas to make whatever is good about the flavor fit into something more interesting. Depending on your goals that could be as simple as pairing it with one other flavor or building something more complex.
Does anyone know if Xpress flavor flavourings in chefsflavour are the same as FE flavourings?

I'm just looking for a good flavor supplier. There's just so many options, I'd appreciate a hand.
I'd like a good USA supplier that doesn't include diacetyl or any other of the supposedly harmful additives. I'd prefer something like virgin vapors how they steam extract their flavors from the actual thing. I'd settle for something that just doesn't include potentially harmful additives I like smooth throat hit, don't know how much that matters here as I won't be adding nicotine for my first batches. I think the act of clouds does the trick for me.
Any suggestions? Any flavor kits that would fit this?
If you look up a flavor on ELR, you will see at the top if they have warnings about certain ingredients. For example: CAP Vanilla Custard v1.
If you shop at Bull City Flavors they also have warnings about some ingredients. CAP Vanilla Custard again. “Natural” does not always mean safer when it comes to these things. There are higher standards for artificial flavorings to pass some regulations. TFA and Capella both have alternate versions of their flavors that contain potentially hazardous ingredients (DX for TFA, V2 for CAP.)
Sticking to one flavor supplier isn't the best idea as each flavor supplier has good flavors and bad flavors. If you want a particular flavor, company A,C, and E may make a tasty version of it while company B,D,F,G, and H have awful versions of it. A different flavor would have companies C and F making the only tasty version.
That said, certain companies are much better about letting you know what is in their concentrates. Based on your request I would recommend The Flavor Apprentice as they are out of California and they list what is in their concentrates on their website. Some of their concentrates have potentially harmful chemicals but as ChemicalBurnVictim said, they also have versions of those flavors without the chemicals. The Flavor Apprentice (TFA) also has a number of very tasty concentrates and they are pretty newbie friendly.
Start out with some TFA but don't limit yourself to just them. Other brands have safe products and better versions of certain flavors. Just do a bit of research and you'll be fine.

I started with 10ml bottles. That way it wasn't a big loss if I didn't like a flavouring. Looking at the flavourings you've ordered I'm guessing you enjoy fruit mixes and it looks like a very capable list.
Also search for "simple recipes" there is a couple of threads with recipes with only a few flavourings.
Regarding flavour enhancers like menthol, sour and sweetner... Liquid Barn's bottles say 1% recommended increments.
Is there a "safe" percentage I could start at? Is 3% a good place to start at for enhancers?
Hi everyone, I realize I might sound like an idiot posting this... As title says, do single flavor concentrates taste good on their own? For example, buying a strawberry concentrate and using only that flavor. Want to get into the DIY game, but would like to start off simple by choosing flavors that sound good on their own, and then gain some confidence and then mix them as time goes on. I see all these crazy mixes with like 5+ flavors, so curious if just one would satisfy the average vaper. Thanks!
Some of them do, some don't. I'm really into TFA Red Licorice at the moment, can't get enough of it.
There are some threads about this where loads of people recommend their favourite standalone flavouring.

Edit: I am a dumbass, I forgot to tell you there are great oneshots. They aren't as cheap as single flavouring/ml but it's something.
I personally like RF Strawberry as a standalone. It's not as robust as if you mix multiple Strawberry's together, but it is one of my regular juices.
Wondering about steeping. I made a thing about it, JakePhelpsMarylandCrabbing on the tube but was wondering if I should ferment it after doing the speed steep? like with a tiny hose and a bottle of water? Like with diy wine?

Yeah, I was wondering when I was looking around I can't seem to find anything about doing it this way. Any non-super technical reasons for not doing it? Like the flavors evap Or something? Or just people have tried it and it isn't necessary or doesn't work?
I don’t even know exactly what you are talking about. There’s no fermenting or brewing going on when mixing juice. Make it, leave the cap on, shake it and leave it sit if it needs to steep. Whatever you are thinking about doing, don’t. Speed steeping also doesn’t work.
Is anybody else using a beaker to make DIY juice ? I mean, putting everything first in the beaker and then into a bottle ? is that the right way
That is a mess and you are incorporating unnecessary air into the mix. There’s no reason not to mix directly into the bottle.
Yes I use beakers all the time. I use a large bore needle on a 3ml syringe for my 100mg nic, without issue. I do mix by weight and use a magnetic stirrer. I heat up my VG to thin it a bit so it will mix properly. I find trying to mix into a 30ml unicorn bottle with a small opening at the top and having to shake the sh*t out the bottle a bit tedious. There are many ways to mix, beakers work for me.
Hey all, about to try mixing again after giving up last year for various reasons. I’m wondering about shelf life of flavoring concentrates. I’ve got a ton of them that are right around a year old, and wondering if they are still good or if i need to trash them.
I have flavourings that are older than year and it's still good. But I keep my flavourings out of sunlight and in a cool place (temperature wise)
But some of them have gone bad.
Your only choice is to try them individually and compare other peoples notes or go by memory.
I did the same thing and most of my flavors from a year ago are ok. I just ordered replacements for them all and then compared smell and taste when my new bottles came in. If they were very different I would toss the bottles that went bad. Ended up only trashing a hand full of flavors and saved most of my old ones. Some of them actually tastes better than my fresh bottles for some reason haha.

About a week ago I got the materials needed for DIY after some extensive research,I also asked the store for some advice aswell.
I made a few batches of juice using the recommended %'s (5-15),tasting them about a day after I made them. a single one tasted pretty good and others were a bit subpar so I figured they needed to steep longer. base/flavoring & mixed batches were shaken.
About a week now and I can taste/smell sweetness (or nothing) but that's about it. The batches smell nice/fine but lack in taste,i'm assuming since they're creams they need 2~4 weeks according to most results I found regarding steep time.
- Did I overflavor & get olfactory fatigue? Or did I underflavor?
- Did my tank mess with my flavor?
- Do I need to steep them even longer?
If I overflavored,can I add more base to thin it out,would that fix it?
I vape 0 nic so it's just base & flavoring,as for the recipes I made & material/mod/tank used :
- 30% PG 70% VG (used from a premix,1L bottle,shaked heavily before use)

what calculator are you using for mixing? And what’s with the odd total amounts of the mixes? Some of those are overflavored a bit. In the case of TFA Grape Juice, it’s just not a good flavor on its own at all.
I used http://www.steam-engine.org/juice.html but eyeballed most of it,so that's why it's a bit off (my bottles do have ml marking though)

Don’t eyeball your mixes. You could try adding more base, with those flavors, though it’s not a guarantee that you will fix it. You’re probably going to want to buy your VG and PG separate next time.
When listing recipes, list them using percentages. Most people mix by weight, and using percentages will eliminate the need to list your total volume.
I recommend you find some good recipes before jumping in to mixing on your own. Along with making smaller batches, (10 ml if you have never tried it before) this will eliminate wasted supplies.
Use sites like All The Flavors or E-Liquid Recipes for your calculator. That steam engine calculator is very minimal, and not very useful for making juice from the ground up.

Ok so I asked earlier about getting a deep fried effect and have added a few flavorings to my next order. But I wanted to try and use what I have on hand to come up with a concept. Here's what I have so far, just wanted some second opinions. Mixed up a small bottle last night to see how it turns out. I'm using cap cereal 27 to hopefully give a more deep fried crust effect as well as using zeppola to help out the Belgian waffle flavors and give them a bit more of a fried note. Also using GLF Fried Doughnut in a mix for the first time; which so far seems to give a greasy, sweet kind of flavor without any doughy notes (when single flavor tested at least). Please note that 3% is a weak amount to use for this GLF flavor, it looks high but according to what the mfgr told me 3% is more of an accent percentage.

I know TPA belgian waffle needs a good long steep to get where it needs to go. It seems to be odd from weeks 2-3 and my favorite time is at about a month with anything containing that. I've never used the Fried Doughnut, so I couldn't say, but it seems like you would end up with a fried doughnut flavor with a possible grainy textural crust? Is that what you are aiming for?
the belgian waffle can make sweet music or be like a 2 year old beating pans. its a strong one. very maple syrupy with hints of yeasty dough.
Haha yah that flavor is an interesting one. I originally was going to use a maple syrup concentrate but figured TFA bw would work better possibly, since it has such a strong maple note to it. Also has those yeast notes which will hopefully lend a helping hand to makkign a fried yeasty dough taste.
Yeah that's kind of what I'm after, I find waffles to have a very similar vibe to doughnuts when so I'm hoping that zeppola will slide in there and work it's magic without overpowering the waffle side of things. If I have any breakthroughs in achieving this deep fried effect I will make sure to update! Don't see to many deep fried anynting out there aside from the typical doughnut or funnel cake recipes. I really wanna figure out a way to make less obvious things deep fried (like a deep fried bannana!!).
I'm about to make my first order for DIY ejuices. I have found most flavors I want, but one still eludes me. Chocolate. I can't find any chocolates sold at ecigexpress(where I'm buying my stuff from).
The only two chocolates that seem to get good reviews as being accurate, are Flavorah's Chocolate, and Deutsch chocolate. I really don't want to have to make an order of 2 flavorings from flavorah. But, If there aren't any other good chocolates, I guess I have to, and I'll just have to pay the shipping(which I hate doing, as I'm low on money as it is).
I'm looking for either a dark chocolate, or regular chocolate, that would be good for mixing with tobaccos. I like tobacco mixed with chocolates, creams(light), coffee, and nuttiness, and caramel. Going to try different mixes with those flavors..
Also, because I'm probably going to have to make a small order from flavorah... do they have any other really good flavors I should consider buying? Might as well, when I'm already paying for shipping.
A question for more experienced mixers: when working from a recipe, have you found that decreasing the VG/PG ratio (e.g. from 70/30 to 50/50) calls for adjusting the percentage of the flavoring?
For example, consider the following fictitious recipe
- George's Cherry (3%)
- Johnny's Apple (2%)
- Georgia's Peach (2%)
- Unflavored Base for 70/30 (93%)
If you replaced "Unflavored Base for 70/30" with "for 50/50", since PG carries flavor better, do the flavorings need adjusting to prevent overpowering?
Also, what is "The 100-drop test?"
Haven't seen this mentioned before, but two possibilities come to mind:
- Keeping a unflavored base in a unicorn bottle, measure out flavorings and base by drops to get to a total of 100 as a way to approximately get percentages in a mix (not really useful technique)
- Drip 100 drops into a GC to measure the approximate volume of '1 drop' of something. Either way, doesn't seem as useful as a scale.

That would be a no. FLV Mango is our lord and savior and no other mango comes close to it. CAP Pineapple is also a really hard one to find a replacement for.

I was wondering if there was a raspberry version of the blueberry trinity. I've tried a few searches with no real success, so figured asking here was safest.
3% TFA Raspberry Sweet to 0.5-1% INW Raspberry is my go to combo. You could sub INW for FA or use both depending on the type of raspberry you want. For what it's worth, I much prefer a similar ratio between TFA Blueberry Wild and FA Bilberry for my blueberries, FW is far too candy like for my taste.
I want to start mixing with nicotine. Ideally I would just add nic to juices I've already made, at least to start. I've seen vape shops do this quickly to juices I buy from them. What nic would people recommend I buy?
I like NicRiver, so if you can recommend a specific product I might get from them. Then any instructions on mixing it would be helpful. I vape at 3mg or 1.5mg if that matters.

If you like Nicotine River then go with them. The concentration and base it's suspended in are what you have to decide. The higher it is (up to 100mg/ml) the less you'll use and you get more bang for your buck. Some people don't feel comfortable using nicotine that high but it's really hard to fuck up if you're safe about it. I personally have bought and will always buy 100mg/ml PG based nicotine. PG is a lot easier to work with.
You can also get nicotine salts from them now. The absorption into your system is a little different and it's ultra smooth. I'd recommend searching that in this sub if you want more info.

Notes: Don't get me wrong it's a good tasting liquid as I've been vaping it for about 3 hours non stop but it tastes like it's missing something and I can't tell what.
Been mixing for about a week now and I've finally completed a nice tasting liquid, I'd be happy if I could have a few tips off of some people to make my experience better and to learn from my mistakes?
Those are very high percentages. As for what's missing, this is mostly cream with a bit of light raspberry, you might want a more potent berry flavor.
The percentages do look quite high but I tested before and to get the full flavour I had to put them quite high. Would sweetener work? Also what's a more potent Berry concentrate?
You can always add sweetener if you wish, though it may mute the berry.
Most berries are stronger than TFA Raspberry Sweet, it's just really weak. If you want raspberry specifically, you'll want some INW or FA Raspberry in there too. You could also use TFA Strawberry, TFA Blackberry, INW Blackcurrant, some lemon or lime or even pineapple, lots of things go well with raspberry.
As for flavor strength, a lot of mixes need to steep to reach their full potential. The Sweet Cream is likely putting a damper on the raspberry. And using too much of a concentrate doesn't increase the strength, but it may change in flavor. And bombarding your senses with flavoring increases the risk of olfactory fatigue, so you end up getting less flavor as you increase the percentages.
I would like to start mixing my own juices with nicotine. I stumbled across people recommending liquid barn for premixed 500ml bottles. Question would be : what kind of experience you guys had with it ? Or is it better for me just to buy seperate bottles of vg and pg and nicotine ? Havent had any experience with mixing or anything yet.
Just starting out, a premix is fine to get your feet wet, learn the ropes and all that. But you're limiting yourself to one PG/VG ratio and nic strength when you could have the freedom to make whatever you want if you got them separately. On top of that, premixed nic tends to be mediocre quality at best and that is the one thing you don't want to go cheap on.
When I started my mixing, honestly not too long ago, I ordered the premixed liquids to get me started. They are good for people who don't want to make anything other than 80/20 liquids. I found that I wanted to alter my ratios so I started buying the chemicals separately. If you're just starting out it will give you an idea of how the flavors come together with the base.
They call it "beginner e-liquid" or something. That's exactly what it is. It was good, but I don't see myself buying premixed liquid base anymore, simply because I want to vape something other than 80/20.
i have 2 friends who vape strictly menthol (in tanks), no nic. Using a 10% solution, they seemed to agree on a sweet spot of 8% menthol (70/30).
i didn't try vaping that juice. But I made some extra so I decided to try it. I thought, this is what it must feel like when you're dying. It made me wonder what it would be like to vape tabasco. I coughed my lungs out.
Now they tell me it's not strong enough, or thick enough (they say that it lasts longer if it's thicker. I've tried different variations, but based on what I've read here, I'm happy with 70/30 for mostly everything except tobacco). They are combining my stuff with commercial juice because it's "stronger" and I guess thicker. I haven't tried the commercial juice.
What I have mixed for them to try is a 15ml of 10% of the 10% menthol solution and 4% of a 30% WS-23 + max VG (so 86% VG). I'm not trying it.
I am wondering how strong and how thick can i make their juice? I have menthol crystals, PG, and I even picked up a bottle of Everclear because I read there is such a thing as 66/34 menthol/PGA. (Why? How much of that stuff can you use??)
Appreciate any advice on how high I can go on the menthol and WS-23 for my friends (without killing them), and how high is reasonable VG% in a tank.
Menthol has a solubility of up to 50% in PG, so you could make some crazy strong juice even if you go for max VG. To get the equivalent of 10% of a 10% dilution, you'd only use 2% of the 50% dilution.
The solubility in PGA is greater than 100%, but you get added throat hit from the alcohol. You'll have to ask them if that is something they desire, if the insanely strong PG solution doesn't cut it.
WS-23 won't add any flavor, only the chill factor. As for how strong they want it, I guess you'll just have to make a few samples and let them decide.
In a way, they have a point that VG lasts longer at the same wattage, since it has a higher boiling point. PG evaporates more easily. But using a tank, I would favor lowering the wattage over increasing the VG ratio, to avoid the risk of dry hits. If they insist though, I wouldn't try to go above 85% VG in a tank.

PG/VG I last got from Nic River, but before that I ordered the Essential Depot stuff on Amazon. I think Nic River is the cheapest I’ve seen it as long as you spend enough for free shipping.
I've been trying out a few recipes this last week or two and had an epiphany. The recipes I really liked mirrored real life items that were artificially flavoured.
E.g my absolute favourites were Lemonade based (Best Damn Pink Lemonade and Backwoods Lemonade). In real life most of the lemonade you can buy is completely artificially flavoured. Hence lemonade type vapes closely resemble the lemonade that my palate is used to.
Cookies, custards, strawberry vapes etc. are fully artificial whereas the real life equivalents I'm used to are not artificially flavoured.
So, I'm guessing sodas and candy are going to be where there is the closest match.
Any other suggestions on things that are almost always artificially flavoured in RL?
There's artificial flavoring in almost everything these days, but you're supposed to get tricked. If it actually tastes artificial, they've kinda failed.
The problem with vaping is different as you're only getting the fragrance, not the taste, texture or anything solid to swallow. You can't get a strawberry juice to mimic biting into an actual berry, instead think of it like sticking your nose into a bowl of berries and taking a whiff. Then let your imagination do the rest. The power of suggestion is an important aspect of flavored e-juice.

^^^ You are dead on with what you said about the complexity of taste and how lots of different things contribute to it. Smell, texture, tongue, imagination etc. These are all things that I was aware of (this is what prompted me to search for 'How to vape properly' vids).
I didn't express myself very well when talking about things that taste artificial very well. I don't come into contact with many artificially flavoured things in my diet. My wife and I both cook almost all of our food from scratch with with fresh ingredients (it's the only way we can control our weight). Where we do eat processed food, it almost always contains only natural ingredients. Strawberry flavour is either fresh, freeze dried or maybe jam. etc.
So when I vape a strawberry juice - it tastes sweet and fruity to me but not at all like a strawberry - no matter how vivid my imagination ;) On the other hand when I vape Lemonade juices then it truly tastes like the lemonade I'm used to because store bought lemonade is artificially flavoured.

Is it worth to use Nicotine Salt if you generally sub ohm and mix your juices at 1.5 - 3 mg?
I've been getting a bunch of emails from nicotine river about their nicotine salt. I was thinking about trying but I'm not really sure if it would be worth it. From what I can tell it's a smoother nicotine which allow you to vape stronger juices without the nicotine throat hit. I don't use Juul or any mtl devices and I mix my juices between 1 and 3 mg nicotine strength so there's already very little throat hit in my juices. It seems you use the same as regular nic so I would buy a 100mg bottle and use the same exact amount as I would regular nicotine. any thoughts?
Salts with benzoic acid apparently give an instant but brief buzz, as opposed to regular nic that slowly builds up in your system as you vape. The trade off is that you have to use far more concentrated nic (50-60 mg/ml) to get any effect. You wouldn't want to sub ohm 50 mg/ml and if you tried to use it much less concentrated you wouldn't get any buzz at all. It really only works for MTL as far as I understand.
thanks. after my initial purchase of nic (liquid barrn) I've been buying Carolina Extract nic which is very smooth. there's been a bunch of buzz (pun intended I guess) about nic salts. guess I was just checking to see if this is something mixers are using a lot nowadays. I guess on pass on nic salt unless down the road I buy a mtl tank or something like that. I vape for a small nic fix (I'm generally down to about 1/1.5 mg nic) rather than a nic buzz.
as an aside when I smoked cigarettes I would get a definite nic buzz from that first cigarette in the morning or if I smoked fast during the day. I don't really get any nic buzz now unless I chain vape (sub ohm) at 3mg or higher.
Okay so i have been trying to achieve this profile for a little bit, first version wasnt too great so i changed up a bunch of stuff. This version is a lot better but i still want to change a few things. Was hoping to get some suggestions on how i could improve this recipe. Imo i think it needs a nice bright vanilla, and maybe a bit of extra butter. The pistachio flavor is noticable but i think a bright vanilla would provide some extra contrast without overpowering the delicate cake notes. Also wanted a bit more lime zest, would raising it to 0.75% negativity effect anything? or Would i be better off changing something else to let the lime come through more?

Oba oba for me is more of a beverage lime,maybe putting INW Lime instead could work.
INW Shisha Vanilla or TFA French Vanilla Deluxe would do the job of adding a good vanilla.

Is there any subreddit or thread regarding list of flavor concentrate that gunks? Or if possible to update our flavor reviews and add if the specific flavor concentrate gunks in coils/ cotton (wick). I have this dilemma when I bought FA cocoa that it gunks up my coil and cotton big time. Thanks!
Usually if a flavouring is gunker the reviewer will mention it. You could look up the flavourings content and see what's in it to get an Idea of its a gunker.
A rule of thumb is darker flavourings usually is worst for your coils. Chocolates, coffees, Cinnamon and a couple I'm forgetting are the main villains.

Flavorah is expensive, the limited use i have with them have been positive so far atleast.
Some of them are worth it because they're so very concentrated that you use so little, it winds up costing no more than the cheaper stuff.

Looking to mix up some lemon peppermint ejuice for a relative that's new to vaping and wants to get into diy.
I've tried TFA peppermint at 7 plus fa lemon sicily at 3 and koolada at 1.25. but she said she could barely taste the lemon. I want to use these three ingredients only.
Maybe I should pump lemon sicily up to 7 or 8 and drop the peppermint? Any ideas? She flies home tomorrow and I don't have time to mess with trial bottles to get the numbers right

TFA Peppermint is an extremely potent flavor. That’s what is muting the lemon. Drop it to 1%.
She's using 50vg in a mi one with 18mg nic. Do you think 1% would be enough ? Also are you saying keep lemon sicily at 3?

Do you have bottles and a scale that can go down to 0.01g. Maybe you wanted critique on the flavourings? Looks solid IMO, i would maybe add FA Meringue because i love FA Fresh Cream with FA Meringue.

Oh my god, it's so good. I'm still not an all-day vape kinda guy (usually switch flavors four to six times a day) but with Cardinal I could be an every day vape guy, since I would be perfectly happy to have that be my first vape of the day every day.

I'm using 100mg/100% VG (Nicotine River) nicotine salts for my adv juice (about 13% flavor, 70/30 VG/PG) mixed at 50mg in my Suorin Air and I'm noticing some wicking problems. I'm assuming it's because almost half of the base is the nicotine so it bumps up the ratio of VG a bit. Would a small percentage of distilled water solve this?
Also to anyone who's tried nicotine river nicotine salts: does anyone else think their nicotine almost too smooth? Compared to 50mg juices I've bought from local shops I don't really feel the buzz/throat hit with nicotine river salts.
The nic being VG won't change the final ratio because all of that should be entered into your recipe calculator for a target ratio of 70/30... What calculator do you use?
I'm using a premixed 70/30 base so I don't think the calculations are as precise. I'm using the calculator on e-liquid-recipes.

Tfa Orange Cream - I think it’s TFA I’ll double check in a bit - never used it but I really want to. Remember reading it was somewhat difficult to get the hang of any tips on percentages to start? Usually go off ELR but if it’s hard to use I would guess there are a lot of recipes with wrong percentages.

0.75 to 2% in a mix and steep it. It changes with a good steep on it. It's not for shaking and vape. I think there's some alcohol in there that makes it taste bad fresh? And regardless it just gets so creamy and full-feeling with a steep, it's worth the wait.

Hi, Im just exploring mixing my own juices, but i havent got alot of funds to explore all the flavours for what im looking for, therefore i am looking for suggested recipes for a 70/30 4mg nicotine cherry bakewell liquid.
what flavours would you suggest to make the cherry bakewell flavour?
Take a look at that link, the bakery part seems easier you could replace the fruits of existing bakery recipe(or add to a non-frut bakery). You need to find a good cherry, wich is really difficult.

Putting an order together at BFC and wanted some help choosing specific concentrates and would also like a few suggestions. I pretty much only mix creamy, dessert, and bakery type recipes - so when im shopping for flavors i am always looking for things that will play nicely within those flavor profiles. I do go through and look at flavor notes and reviews but that is very time consuming, so i was hoping i could get a bit of help from one of the many human flavor encyclopedias that hang around here. Would give me a nice head start!
Okay so im looking specifically for:
- Cranberry (sounds like TFA has the best one?)
- Peach (Hoping to find one that would work well in a pastry or pie, like a real peach in a sweet peach syrup sauce)
- Pear
- Apricot (i hear a lot of good things about flavor art's version)
- Apple (already own FA Fuji, want to expand my apple variety)
- Saskatoon berry (if it even exists)
- Mango
Also, if there are any bakery concentrates that arent commonly recommended, but are really good - id love to hear about those as well!

Peach i would look into INW Peach or FA White Peach. INW probably edges it out in accuracy but both are good.

Mango, FLV Mango is probably the most used in this sub and is worthy checking out. Also TFA Philipinne Mango could be worth checking out.
Also take a look at FOTW threads, i know mango has been featured there and probably some of the others aswell.
Wanna create a 50/50 50mg/mL salts base using 250mL of 100mg/mL PG based salts. Math isn't my strongest subject, but simply adding 250mL of VG would get me where I need to be wouldn't it?
That would do it. But out of curiosity... why? As soon as you add flavor, you'll have around 60% or more PG.
I have a few friends that want 40mg salts juice for their pods, but I despise working with VG nic, since I only keep a 60mL working bottle at any given time. I hate having to wait for freezer-stored nic to return to room temp.
I posted in the suggest a recipe but I'm impatient.
