Want S'more info about a mellow flavor of the Week? Check out: MARSHMALLOWS!!!
submitted almost 8 years ago by ID10-TWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!

Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

This week's flavor is: Marshmallows!

I'd like to see this comment section look like the end of Ghostbusters

How did that get to be the FOTW?

It was requested. If you're not interested in this FOTW, please take this opportunity and comment to suggest one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that).

Past FOTW posts can be found here

I just wanna make sure you guys try and mention PUR Marshmallow. My favorite marsh lately

I tried it and it seems to give me that nice powdery mouthfeel at 3-4% while working as fluffy FA Marshmallow at lower (up to 1.5%) percentage. It is quite good I must say. Powdery mouthfeel is exactly what other marshmallows lack.

I don't have that flavor yet but I can say that I know it's legit thanks to /r/MixersClub, because in that Campfire Banana juice you sent me it really made TFA Toasted Marshmallow taste like an actual toasted Marshmallow.

If you want to vape a marshmallow, Da Vinci's Brush is delicious.

I haven't had a chance to mix SMOTHER U and /u/matthewkocanda has hidden the recipe on ATF for some reason, but it looks terrific to me, too. Marshmallows flavors make great little additions to recipes but it takes a ton of work to make them work as the focal point of a recipe.

I think I made it private a while ago because I was unhappy with the final result after I mixed a second bottle of it.

Felt like it needed work, but once I started messing with it, I realized I was just making it worse. Guess I should just go back to the original since a lot of people liked it.

You're opinion of it wouldn't have been affected by a negative review based on technical details, would it.

Did that happen? Lmao that recipe lived it's life too long ago for me to remember what positive or negative reviews it had. Unless you're talking about the review Wayne did of it, literally just remembered that as I was talking about it hahaha.

I've had pretty limited experience with marshmallows in general. I've only ever used them for a blender or smoothing out harsher edges. TFA's Marshmallow is great for that iconic mouth feel at 1%. I have never used it higher to try to achieve an actual marshmallow flavor though. FA's Marshmallow is also pretty awesome. It seems to be a little more dry and less fluffy.

I've been trying to work with FLV's Marshmallow a little bit more as that has the most accurate marshmallow flavor from the few I've got and tried. It almost forces itself on top of a recipe though. I have used it from .5%-1% and it always has that jetpuff flavor hanging out in the mix somewhere. It's not a bad flavor but I don't think you can use it the same way you can with the previously mentioned marshmallows.

It gave me an idea to try to incorporate it as the main flavor to a cereal marshmallow type recipe. I also tried to use a different cereal base for it, which wasn't good IMO. (Don't mix this, it was just a starting point and it wasn't good.)

JF Biscuit - 2%

Creamy Milky Undertones - 1.5%

FLV Marshmallow - 1.5%

CAP Cereal 27 - 2%

FA Cream Fresh - 1%

The goal of the mix was to create a marshmallow cereal, which the FLV Marshmallow did a great job at as it wants to sit on top of the mix. 1.5% for this purpose seems to be a good point to keep it at when I rework the mix.

Just wanna add flv can tone down some harsh edges in a mix. Def not as versatile as most other marshmallows as you said.

Notes: Flavor Profile: Gently toasted marshmallow fluff with a touch of cunty.

Just listened to the noted marshmallow podcast and wanted to take a shot at a nice vanilla marshmallow flavor. Trying to use some flavorings i havent messed around with much - will see how it works out! Mixed up a 15ml bottle today so I will try to report back after some steeping. I took some inspiration from the Marshmallow Cunt recipe, but tried to do my own thing with it. Used quite a few flavorings in this one, will update with flavor notes tomorrow hopefully. Off of a shake and vape it's a pretty sweet marshmallow, my girlfriend really likes it. Going to mix a 30ml tomorrow without any sweetener, I don't think it needs it.

After a steep update: Still need to do proper notes on this one, but im already working on some minor changes for v2. So far v1 is really nice and has a nice fluffy marshmallow taste imo. Kind of like a jet puff but more... gourmet tasting if that makes sense. Would like to hear others opinions on it!
