This a first look/impression of a flavor and not an extensive review. Don't expect any concrete level write up here :)
Setup: Narda Clone, Triple core alien (thanks loco) Nichrome 80 coil. 3x28g / 36g @.33 ohms. 45w power, Full Cotton Wicks.
Testing: LB Lava Cake @4%, snv
Flavor Description: First off, I wanted to get this info out right away because I was excited about this flavor so it is not a full review. I mixed it up and loved it and looked right away to see if there was a review out for it. Since there isn't anything I thought I would bring it upon myself to spread the word.
This is a really good chocolate, finally! To me it tastes like the inside of a lava cake with maybe a crumb or two of the cake itself. It is a semi sweet chocolate with a bit of bakery behind it. I am assuming it is the ap ness of the flavor that actually is making this a decent chocolate. It is not overtly grainy so I think it could be covered up easily to turn this into a chocolate milk type flavor.
This is very smooth right on the shake and lingers in your palate a bit. It's not coat your mouth thick so can use some help with creams or sweetener if you want that lip smacking flavor. That being said, it does have enough inherent sweetness if you just want a chocolate accent to something, I don't think it needs any sweetener unless you are making the chocolate the main note.
Off-flavors: Not a one, this is all chocolate, all of the time, pure and simple. Pretty accurate to the profile it is going after but I would add some additional cake-y flavors to push this a little more.
Throat Hit: Very smooth, no tingle at all, even on the shake
Uses & Pairings: I would comfortably use this wherever you want a chocolate. Whether you throw creams at this to make a chocolate milk or layer in your favorite fruit for one of those brooks candies I think this would be a good choice. Like I stated earlier this is just a first look so I haven't made many mixes with it. I think this and flv red velvet would get along wonderfully to make it a more true lava cake.
Thanks for the review I don't see reviews for a lot of their flavors interested in seeing one for Belgian waffle looks like only two flavors been reviewed
This sounds yummy...thank you very much. Love me some lava!! Purilum is releasing a chocolate cake in the next week or two that will probably work well to help add cake notes. It's actually pretty good, it is a slightly dry vape. Maybe if this is moist enough and or a little sweetened condensed milk to add moisture might be good.
This is pretty moist, its more like hot fudge than cake imo. You've tried the new pur chocolate cake then?
Funny but true story. It was named and supposed to be lava cake. After testing it was missing the lava part but the cake was present. So they named it chocolate cake instead. I was a bit disappointed as I was hoping they would go back to the drawing board as I would love lava cake. Just an interesting coincidence :)
Great review. Just adding my two cents after some testing, for posterity mostly. Tamachicken also had a review of this up.
Disclaimer: I didn't pay for these, they were sent to me by Liquid Barn. Shout out to Liquid Barn
Setup: Recoil w/ flavor barrel, Dual 15 wrap 26g 3mm Nifethal 70 coils @.17 ohms. 60w power, 450F temp limit. Full Cotton Wicks.
Testing: Liquid Barn Lava Cake, 3 and 6% @ 1g/ml, 60/40 VG/PG base, Steeped 33 days.
Flavor Description: Box mix chocolate cake, but pretty decent overall without any major drama or issues.
The chocolate here is pretty solid. Semi-sweet bakers type of chocolate. Nothing too cocao heavy or creamier like a milk chocolate, but it's definitely competent. Some of that cheap chocolate cake fruitiness but not too major. This tastes a lot like OSDIY Chocolate Yum Cake but the chocolate is a little darker in this, so this is probably a pretty solid sub for that if you're having trouble tracking that down. I'm not getting anything really rich or chocolately enough for an actual lava cake. More just tastes like a cake from a boxed mix.
There is some soft cake grain to this, although I feel like it needs something a little grittier to really sell the cake texture. I'm getting something a bit waxy out of this but it largely works for the profile and could probably serve as a jumping off point for a richer chocolate frosting. I'm missing anything really rich or buttery from this, but the data sheet here doesn't list any DAAP if you're into that sort of thing.
As a chocolate flavor, this is a little hard on the wicks but nothing crazy. No coil gore or burning sweetener, but after about 10ml my wicks are getting pretty crunchy and the flavor is a bit muted. Nothing catastrophic though, especially considering the relatively high percentage for a chocolate flavor.
Off-flavors: Doesn't really work as a lava cake for me, but nothing off if you go in expecting something less rich.
Throat Hit: Light to moderate, the steep really helps here. I tried a bit solo as a S&V and I got a lot of ethyl alcohol.
Percentage testing: At 3% this feels pretty thin. I'm not getting much cake texture but it definitely tastes like the chocolate from a cake. A lighter baker's chocolate kind of flavor. Not much in way of richness or vibrancy.
At 6% this feels a bit more like cake. Chocolate is a little darker and more saturated. Could still use a bit more texture and richness. Some waxiness that might be the beginning of a frosting. Still not seeing a gooey lava cake out of this, but pretty solid.
Liquid barn suggests 6% and that seems about right for a primary flavor. I'd probably mix around 6-8% for a chocolate cake base or 3-4% as a chocolate cake booster.
Uses & Pairings: Just based on my testing here, this is probably going to be pretty much relegated to cake profiles. As a primary note, it has enough going on to pull off the cake in a lighter chocolate cake or chocolate cupcake. A little bit of extra AP to make this a bit heavier would be nice, but it'd probably work out pretty well. If you get the layering right with a vienna or pastry cream type flavor and a waxier chocolate coating this would be a really good fit for a ding-dong snack cake type profile.
Additionally, this might work to bulk out FLV Chocolate Deutsch without pulling it too far off the profile while still letting you tone down the coconut note from that a bit.
