Hi folks, I've got some ws-23 crystals on order but I've never made my own solution before. I've read a few posts about it but most of them just kind of say put a tea spoons worth in a bottle add your pg and shake. I would like to be a bit more accurate than that for future replication.
If someone could tell me their procedure for doing this I'd be very grateful, I'm looking to make something the sort of strength readily available. I'm sure I read 20% was the norm. In which case, say I'm looking to make a 30ml bottle, I would add 6g of crystals and then fill with PG and shake like crazy? Does that sound right. Also would a little heat be needed?

I've been making 30% because that's what ECX and Chef's have been selling.
Make your dilution by weight. If you want about 30 mls, I'd mix 9g of crystals, with 21g of PG (for 30%.)
You don't necessarily have to mix in a separate container, but you're going to want a lot of head space so you can get really good shake. Again, you don't necessarily need heat, but a little will make your life easier.
Personally I've been mixing in glassware, hitting the bottom with a heat gun for about 15 seconds, and shaking like hell. It's going to be cloudy at first, but it will clear back up. You just want to make sure that you don't have any visible clumps in there by the time you're done shaking. WS-23 clumps like crazy in crystal form, so by the time you get the clumps out all of the individual-ish crystals will already be in suspension.

Drip Hacks says you can mix it up to a 50% dilution on their WS-23 crystals page. As much WS-23 as I use in my MTL recipes, I'd like to do that. At the same time though it might be better to go 30%, since as you said Chef's and ECX seem to have set that as the baseline, and when someone says 1% WS-23, they usually mean 1% of a 30% dilution.
Never heard of WS-23 before this. I am not a big fan of koolada and even less of menthol, so this "cooling effect with no odor or taste" sounds intriguing. Just added it to my shopping list (which kind of sucks, cause I just placed a big order.
Interested to get some feedback from people who have played with this.
WS-23 is sold my Ecigexpress pre-diluted in Pg.
It's a lot of people's favorite cooling agent, including mine. It's relatively newer. It has a crisp cold cooling with no after chemical taste. It doesn't seem to degrade nicotine either from my limited experience. It's everything koolada is with none of the negatives.
I would highly recommend getting it if you enjoy koolada but don't enjoy much past the cooling sensation. 1% is a good percentage for me for a strong cooling sensation.

WS-23 is really smooth and doesn't have an after taste. The cooling sensation seems to be more authentic or realistic. It's really smooth and doesn't seem to add much of a throat hit. Best of all, it has absolutely zero flavor to it.
Koolada is similar except it has a "artificial" quality about it. It doesn't seem to get as cool except in high amounts. The chemical taste it gives off is off putting. It seems to make nicotine degrade after steep for a short while.
ECX is the only place I've seen sell it as a dilution. Drip Hacks seems to sell it in it's crystal form if you want to make your own dilutions to save a bit of money.
WS-23 is newer? The Wilkinson Sword company came up with about forty different compounds years ago. I'very seen Chinese merchants selling WS-5, WS-12, and WS-23 (all labeled as 'Koolada' along with the number) but I don't recall if it's in solution already or if they're selling crystals. Probably some of each.

Phew, means I put it in the right place. I like to add a few drops to some of my fruit mixes, 1 or 2 per 10ml, it just gives it a very light cooling, usually in mixes that have a tropical style feel to them. I have some friends who I mix for sometimes who love it super cold (brain freeze) and for that I would use 1-1.5%, not a fan of that myself but they like it.
I definitely prefer it over koolada.
Wow, I guess I really do have a weak perception to cooling agents. I get absolutely nothing from Koolada (WS-3) expect flavor muting and harshness. With WS-23 I get none of the downsides of Koolada, but at 1% I guess a nice comfortable cooling sensation. I'd need 3-4% WS-23 for actual brain freeze territory.
Interesting how this sub used to be years ahead of the Facebook groups but now with cooling agents this sub is about 1 year behind the Facebook groups.
This sub is still much more 'advanced' overall though. Just weird that cooling agents seemed to miss this sub.
I guess I'm confused right now. Are you implying that there is something new/better/even more powerful than WS-23 hitting the DIY community right now? If not, WS-23 has been taking this subreddit by storm (at least for brain freeze chasers).
WS-5 has long been identified as more cooling than WS-3 or WS-23. WS-12 is supposed to be even more potent. This is the article I found over at deeper diy... still trying to locate the supplier of the crystals. Looks like minimum order is 1kg... Dunno if I'm that interested unless there's interest out there in splitting it up into at least four or five portions.
