So, long story short, I need to stop vaping for a week or so due to a throat issue (not caused by vaping, but it isn't helping). I've searched around a bit but want to see if anyone here has ever tried this as we all have large bottles of concentrated nic laying around.
Would it be possible to place 0.2 or so ml of diluted nic on a bandaid or other substrate and place it onto the skin? Or even simply drop a set amount and rub it in? I've read stories about accidental skin exposure, but not much about intentionally doing this.
I have some VG with 2.5mg/ml next to me and am considering using it for this experiment. If I remember right there is something like 0.7mg nicotine in a cigarette, so maybe using 0.2ml for a total of .5mg nic would work? I've brought my typical mix down to 1.5 mg/ml when vaping.
I know I could just stop vaping, but as a decade long smoker, nicotine still helps considerably with anxiety and stress, as you all know.
Hopefully this post isn't breaking any rules, but I figured /r/DIY_eJuice would have the most knowledge on nic.
EDIT UPDATE: Tried this last night and it worked surprisingly well by just putting 0.2 ml of 2.5mg/ml VG on a Band-Aid and sticking it to the inside of my arm. To be honest, it was more of a nicotine body buzz (a la cigarettes), and was stronger than expected.
It was a little messy, but that was to be expected.
As a side note: there was discussion about using DMSO, but this is probably not a great idea considering how quickly it can transport nic to the bloodstream.
Thanks everyone!
That's pretty close to the way the nicotine patch was created. (Developer was working with liquid nic, spilled some on himself. Noticed side effects from the exposure was similar to smoking, tested it on his wife and brother in law, IIRC, dropping liquid onto bandages on their upper arms.) To make quicker absorbtion, mix powdered nic with DMSO (then you need to come up with a steady slow release mechanism).
Really, for a patch to really be useful, the sustained steady release is key. Scavenging material from the absorbant layer of a diaper might be useful...
Interesting, I didn't know that, but it does make sense.
I'm assuming DMSO would be easier absorbed into skin than VG or PG?
Do NOT do this. Read up on DMSO. That shit is incredibly dangerous because it penetrates the skin so easily. The fact that you've never heard of it means you need to steer very clear of that. Else you fuck around and die of nicotine poisoning.
I've never tried it, but I've often wondered if a few drops in a beverage would work. Like, on a long plane flight or something I could just add a few drops to my complimentary beverage and get my fix that way.
I'm pretty sure we're kidding ourselves if we say we never swallow any juice, anyhow.
A while back there was a guy that would put a drop or 2 on Altoids mints or something that seemed to work for cravings. Might work better than a messy nicotine band-aid.
Here is the post with instructions. Note to anyone wanting to try this, be sure to adjust for your nic concentration, or dilute it to around 60 mg/mL.
Thanks for that link. I may try this when my SO get home, she always has altoids. I'm into the idea of flavouring them as well. That said, I'm supposed to refrain from getting any pg/vg in my throat for a bit. I'll update this post once I try the messy bandaid method.
Not a patch but similar idea - there's been a few times where I've put a bit of juice (3mg, my normal vaping strength) on a bit of cotton and tucked it in between my gum and lip. Works quite well. Just start low/small as it can hit a bit harder than you'd expect.
I've just squirted it straight under my tongue and gone without swallowing for as long as I could. It hits the spot. With some recipes this would be a disaster - things don't exactly taste the same way when vaped as they do in your mouth. But when you think "that is so good I could drink it" - maybe you can.
Haha, squirting straight under the tongue, that's hardcore dripping.
Yeah the flavourings don't always translate well, but when it's one of those days you know you're gonna be stuck in meetings or whatever and can't get out for a vape it works pretty damn good.
Off topic but talking about 'so good I could drink it' - just the other day I flavoured a bottle of plain water with + TFA Sweetener + TFA Cotton Candy + CAP Lemon Lime + citric acid. Came out pretty damn nice considering I was just blindly squirting concentrates into water.
Have you guys seen those nicotine toothpicks? Pretty sure they are just flavored toothpicks soaked in a little nicotine. Maybe soak a toothpick in diluted flavor of choice like FA strawberry, let it dry, then soak in diluted nicotine. Worth a shot
I've never heard of this before. I don't think pg ever actually dries though, maybe they have nicotine in a ethanol solution to pull this off. Not sure if that's possible though, I'm no chemist.
Here is what I was talking about.

If you scroll down it says they use VG and distilled water but that's all they say, but then again you may not want to be that guy with a toothpick in his mouth haha.

Someone posted about rubbing nic juice on his gums a month or so ago. Basically everyone called him an idiot but I thought it wasn't such a bad idea. You could give that a try and report back with how that works..
Also where did you get your information about cigarettes containing .7mg of nic? I thought blues/classics contain like 14/16mg of nic and reds/virginias have like 18/20mg.
My Band-Aid method has been working in a pinch.
I did some quick searching and read it was an average of 1mg that is absorbed from smoking a cigarette, and looked at the back of an old pack of Cuban smokes someone gave me that said there was 0.7mg nicotine. 14-20mg seems like a ton of nicotine for one cigarette, but I could be way off. I've brought down my tolerance to nicotine considerably, so the 0.5mg in contact with my skin has been working, or its placebo. I miss my vanilla mango juice though..
https://imgur.com/TIuvbCG https://imgur.com/4krA4Yt I've never heard of .7mg in a cigarette before. These pictures show the numbers I'm more familiar with.
Hm. Here is something I found about cigarettes in Canada http://www.smoke-free.ca/eng_research/elasticitytable.htm and another website I found with a table of Tar / Nicotine content https://www.sayonarasmoking.com/how-much-nicotine-is-in-one-cigarette/
The Tar content seems close to those numbers, but the actual amount of nicotine seems much lower.
Edit: and something from the FTC: https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/documents/reports/report-tar-nicotine-carbon-monoxide-smoke-1206-varieties-domestic-cigarettes-year-1994/tarandnico.pdf
and http://www.tobaccofreemaine.org/explore_facts/tobacco_and_health.php
I think those numbers are listing the Tar content of the cigarettes, of which about 1/10 is nicotine. I never knew this before... Oddly enough Canadian and European packs of cigarettes do not contain this information anymore.
