As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
This week's flavor is: Apple
How did that get to be the FOTW?
It was requested. If you're not interested in this FOTW, please take this opportunity and comment to suggest one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that).

LOL, I almost dismissed it, I mean.. pickles. Apples however, I have a few. Obligatory disclaimer for crappy flavor notes.

One FA Fuji to rule them all, one FA Fuji to find them, one FA Fuji to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. Yes, I'm a fan. A red apple, very potent, the brightness of a fresh apple yet slightly musky, tartness of a cider. Stands well on its own but truly shines when combined with sweet and juicy apples. Especially when supported by some FA Liquid Amber.
-
FA Stark Apple is a bit meh. A very weak and lackluster red apple, not juicy, not bright, not sweet. I've only really used it to round off Fuji.
-
CAP Double Apple is bright and juicy with some nice cider tartness to it. Leaning heavily towards the red apple.
-
TFA Apple Candy is interesting, like a tart red apple with a wine gum backbone. Not something you could use in a dessert or beverage, which kind of limits your options with it, but for anything candy, this will do the job.
-
TFA Apple Tart (Granny Smith) has me wondering why I ordered it, but I'm sure I'll find a use for it some day. It's more like vinegar, reminds me of chutney or sherry. Would probably go great with TFA Kentucky Bourbon if you're into boozy beverage vapes.
-
INW Shisha Apple is a bit of a gem. It's like a very ripe yet tart apple, I get strong notes of almond or marzipan from it, while at the same time being bright and juicy.
-
MB Green Apple is pretty weak, not really bright or tart enough to pass as a green apple, doesn't stand well on its own yet drowns to anything you add.
-
MB Cider Apple Mint is a bit stronger, not really a cider but the slight tartness does pass it for a green apple. Alas, there's the mint and while pretty mild for a mint, you can't get away from it.
I actually thought I had more, but these were the ones worth mentioning. I'll drop a recipe while I'm at it, not quite finished, but very tasty. Not sure whose idea it was to use FW Yellow Cake with apple, but man does it work well. Bump it up to 2% if you really want some sugar dripping baked apples. Shake and vape as everything I make.
%|Brand|Flavor ---|---|--- 3%|INW|Shisha Apple 1%|FA|Fuji 0.8%|TFA|Pineapple 1%|FW|Yellow Cake 0.8%|FA|Liquid Amber 1%|FA|Apricot
Edit: I adjusted some percentages, I simplified it at first, but at second thought..
You really don't like Stark? I love it. 1:1 split with fuji kinda tastes like apple juice, it just has that crispness but with a great blanketing mouthfeel IMO. Goes great with CAP CDS, tfa brown sugar, a bit of FA joy, lorannes cream cheese frosting, and a tiny bit of liquid amber for an apple fritterish kinda mix.
I wouldn't say I don't like it, just that it doesn't bring that much to the table and is dependent on another apple for flavor. I agree that it goes well with Fuji, rounds it off a bit, and I can see what you mean about the crispness. Thanks for the notes, perhaps I'll see it in a new light :)
That looks like it would be worth busting out the Cancer Cake for, based on your description of Shisha Apple (haven't picked that one up yet).
It's only for lack of JF or even CAP YC that I still use it, I hear JF is the better of the two? Gonna have to order from Chef's soon, missing flavors are starting to pile up :)
You might get close if you sub Shisha Apple for something like CAP Double, bump that and Fuji up a bit, and perhaps add a dash of FA/INW Marzipan. Won't be the same, but should still be good.
The Tart Green TFA? I thought it was a good sourish Apple taste personally.
No, the Tart Granny Smith, two completely different flavors. I'm willing to bet the Green Apple is a lot better! ;)
Nothing new, not my recipes, but two of my favorites:
- Cinapple Fritter by returnity - Quite possibly my favorite recipe of all time. Delicious as shake & vape, but really matures significantly after a week or two.
- Sparkling Apple Peach Wine by Shaner - Extremely flavorful and refreshing. Nice and clean.
Also of note, apple fans should also peruse the last apple-centric FOTW from 2015.
Not to toot my own horn but this is by far my favorite Apple/Cinnamon recipe:
MFG|Flavor|% :-:|:-:|:-: HS|Apple Mix|1% CAP|Cinnamon Danish Swirl|2.5% TPA|Dragonfruit|2 dps/30ml FA|Fuji Apple|0.3% FA|Joy|2 dps/30ml FA|Meringue|1% JF|Yellow Cake|2.5% FA|Zeppola|4%
Steep time: Minimum 10 days, best after 14.
Full notes are on the ATL page but give it a try sometime.
I don't see this flavour combo too often, but it's a favourite of mine:
Percentage|Brand|Flavour| :--|:--|:--| 6%|FA|Fuji Apple| 1%|TPA|Koolada| 0.5%|CAP|Cool Mint| 0.5%|INW|Melon| 1%|INW|Apple Shisha| 2%|CAP|Double Apple| 0.5%|CAP|Golden Pineapple| 1%|TPA|Brown Sugar| 1%|TPA|Creme De Menthe| 1%|TPA|Quince| 0.5%|TPA|Strawberry Ripe|
The title had me laughing for a minute....
INW Apple Bahraini Gold should be getting more love imo. It's amazing on it's own (2-3%), the perfect apple shisha vape. It's great with VBIC. It's great with FLV Fig, FLV Cream and a bit of CAP SS. It fits as an accent in many tobacco recipes, and it has a bit of a menthol feel so it makes amazing apple mint pairings.
Don't really get menthol from it but a sort of anise taste. I agree it's really good though. 2.5% mixed with 3% INW Cavendish Type makes a great apple shisha.
Late to the party, and not a whole lot to contribute, but what the hell. Only ever played with FA Fuji. Originally picked it up because someone wanted me to make an apple juice for them. Sort of just winged it, but it tasted pretty good.
Apple Bullshit
-
TFA 5% AP- 1%
-
RF SC Almond- 1.5%
-
INW Biscuit- 1.5%
-
FA Cinnamon Ceylon- 1.25%
-
TFA Cinnamon Danish- 2%
-
FA Fuji- 2.5%
That's what happens when people say "I don't know, just something with apple." There you go mother fucker. Turned out better than expected.
After that I decided to play with the Fuji in my clone of Indigo The Duke, and that turned out fantastic.

TFA 5% AP- 1%

FA Caramel- 1.5%

INW Tobacco Symphony- 1.5%
I probably actually like this version better than my original clone.
I've almost picked up different apple flavors, but I think the Fuji does just fine to satisfy my needs. Unless someone has a suggestion for an apple that would work better with tobaccos?????
Bahraini Apple Gold from INW. My favorite apple for pairing with most tobacco mixes. It mixes pretty well with Fuji too. HS Apple Mix is also good but I reach for the Bahraini more often than not when mixing apple and tobacco.
Excellent, I'll pick that one up next order. Thanks!
I have been looking to clone juice called Reds Apple or Selfie Sunday( latter is the old name). It just tastes like sweet apple juice, any ideas in flavorings? It definitely uses a f ton of sweetener but it's so good . I heard INW two apples is good for it but I have no clue. It's a pretty big company and don't they usually only use one manufacturers flavorings?
I've been trying to clone it for almost a year now but I haven't come close. My best attempt was:
INW Apple dtm 2%
FA Fuji 1.5%
FA apple stark 1%
CAP Double apple 1%
FA Pear 0.5%
Cap super sweet 0.5%
Have you tried INW two apples? Someone said that was key
PRL Country Apple is a very interesting animal, if you haven't tried it yet. It is a realistic baked (or baked~ish) golden apple with significant tart floral "baked peel" note. A very unique apple, I must say. It is great in RY4-bakery profiles and quite enjoyable on it's own.
I've got some on the way!
I messed up a mix once that heavily featured LB Honey Dew that ended up tasting like some canned pickles that you'd find in some random barn and decided to pop open and try.
If anyone's interested in that horrid mix, pm me and I'll get back to you once I get home.
I love FA fuji but too me it is too bright and tart for most apple pie recipes. Cap double apple doesn't seem to be what I am after and I haven't read anything remarkably good about FA and TFA apples. What are peoples thoughts on FLV apples offerings? Maybe FLV apple filling is what I am looking for.
FLV Apple Filling will have all the cinnamon you need for an apple pie, but you're still going to want to use some other apple with it. CAP Fuji is probably going to work better for you than FA Fuji for that, it's more fleshy and less bright and tart. Edit: But try FA Fuji + FLV Apple Filling first, since you already have FA.
Anything with Apple is my favourite profile and is the main Flavour that got me off smoking a year or so ago.
I also really enjoy botboys141's recipe, best apple pie I have tasted.
However I have craved an Apple Crumble (called apple cobbler in US?) vape with more of a buttery biscuit topping rather than pie crust.
The following is my first real (from scratch) recipe which I am proud of and can't stop vaping
% Brand Flavor 0.25% FA Apple Pie 3% CAP Cereal 27 1.75% FLV Cinammon Crunch 1.75% FA Fuji 0.75% CAP Golden butter 0.5% FA Liquid Amber 1% FA Pandoro 0.5% TPA Pear 3% CAP Sugar Cookie 0.5% CAP Super Sweet
http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/1808951/Apple+Crumble+v3
(sorry I couldn't find how to copy the recipe into a table)
I would welcome any feedback or recommendations, I feel it could be consolidated and I am also wondering how FLV apple filling could fit in here?
Great work ID10T and I look forward to the noted episode on apples
This is like one of the best recipes I ever did. Altho the c27 takes the spot, fa Fuji plays a mayor role
its: 0.75 fa caramel 3 Cap cereal 27 0.5 cap cinn danish swirl 1.25 FA cream fresh 0.75 TPA Dairy milk 3 FA Fuji 2 FA Meringue 0.75 Cap Super Sweet i mix it at 70/30
Steep for about a week
Ive been trying to find the right apple for my modders choice beast mode clone, I've tried Fiji and caps double apple. Afraid to pull the plug on any other apples without experience. Anybody know which apple it might have if they've tried it? Im leaning more on the double apple side though. I feel like the right apple I'm looking for needs more "tang" in my opinion. Thanks in advance!
My co-hosts and I, along with special guest flavor reviewer extraordinaire /u/ConcreteRiver, did a live video on apple flavors:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zzXXD-anlk
And the mixer known as Substance D typed up some notes from it for people who prefer to get information in writing rather than audio/video format. Here are his notes:
