Alternatives to e-liquid-recipes.com?
submitted about 8 years ago by Exploring_Uranus

I found references to it in this subreddit, ~~but the site appears to be down~~ but the site doesn't work unless I disconnect my VPN (Private Internet Access) - WTF?

Any other ways to answer the not-allowed question of "Suggest a recipe for me with these ingredients?" (And hello auto-moderator, how nice to hear from you).

This is a wonderful sub, and I have managed to produce three mixes that I like better than store-bought, after maybe 3 weeks of experimenting. I'd like to branch out a bit more, and the flavors I liked best are all riffs on existing recipes. Having a way to find recipes based on things I already have would be great.

I have some additional flavors coming soon to make Grack Juice, as well as various tobacco flavors for a couple of in-laws who want to quit smoking. This sub gave me a good starting point for the latter (I never would have thought to buy "dirty base").

There's https://alltheflavors.com

Also I'm not sure what you mean by elr being down, here's a link to it. I just went there and it's working fine. http://e-liquid-recipes.com

Thank you! I have been trying it all weekend and I got an error message every time. It might be because I was running a VPN on my computer and I am not on my phone. I'll try it out on the same machine and see if I get the same result.

Does ATF let you enter your flavors and then list recipes containing what you have?

Did you configure the VPN yourself?

I subscribe to PIA and I'm running their client... Now that you mention it, I think that I had to tweak a packet size setting on another of my computers to get it to work with particular sites. I'll look into that again and see what I did.

Also try using the chromium browser for ELR, it seems to run a lot smoother than firefox or regular chrome.

I found this to be true as well. Vivaldi (also blink engine) renders without issue.

Agree, ATF is an invaluable resource. I maintain my stash on both ELR and ATF, but when I'm looking for a recipe or attempting to create one, I turn to this sub and ATF.

ATF looks nice, but how can i add flavours to my stash? I can not find that option =(

I'm not sure, I believe they have a subscription model that includes features like that. I usually just browse there to see what the best flavors to use for a particular recipe are. Kind of a which one and how much type thing.

You have to create an account, free or paid, to save a stash. When you search flavors, there will be a checkbox on the right that will add to your stash and an arrow that will expand the flavor for more options.

there's a weekly thread devoted to this.

I've seen that. I was looking for something more comprehensive, but I'll post my stash and see.

Thanks!

I wasn't aware that PIA was affected. Due to an increasing number of attacks against ELR I have had to implement blacklists - a lot of the blacklisted IPs are open proxies - I wouldn't have thought that PIA was among them. Just this Saturday someone used a large number of IPs to attack the site. Fortunately I was able to rectify the problem as soon as I got to a machine.

I really wonder who do this, and what they hope to achieve :P

PIA is probably not one of them. It works fine as long as I check the box that says "use smaller packets". I've hit that with other sites too, and I think it has something to do with your server software. Not a big deal to just leave that box checked.

Ah, I see.

not working very well when I have PIA on as well.

Just checked and ELR works for me (also using a VPN). Maybe try a different server?

It's only when I'm running PIA. Works fine without a VPN.

In the event that the site operator happens to see this it's almost impossible to find anything without "google-fu". 82k recipes and all I can do is sort them by name, author, date, and rating.

If you could filter out things by strength, pg/vg ratio, or number of ingredients it would be way more usable. I prefer something stronger than 6mg and the only way I can sort through it all is 'site:e-liquid-recipes.com "Strength: 12..24mg"' on google.

You can make any of the recipes you find on elr or atf for that matter whatever nic strength you want. Just go to the blue wrench and hit adapt recipe.

Exactly what /u/mINikon says. In a later iteration I will do away with nic strength etc in the recipe display, so that only when you want to mix it will you have to choose nic level etc.
