Hello all! I have been trying to perfect the Upper Midwest delicacy known as "Blue Moon Ice Cream". Being in the lower Midwest, this flavor is very hard to find. I have had it maybe 3 times in my life, but it was hands down the best flavor I have ever had. I have tried a few clone recipes, but they don't quite hit the mark. Seems most people go too high on the lemon or they add blueberry to get the "blue" part. From what I have learned, the only thing blue in the real ice cream is food coloring. These are the flavors I was able to detect the last time I had it:
Vanilla Lemon or lemon/lime Raspberry or possibly blue raspberry? Orange Dreamsicle Marshmallow
Using this, I was able to come up with my closest recipe yet.
CAP Vanilla Whipped Cream 1% TFA Coconut Candy 0.5% FA Vienna Cream 3% CAP Juicy Lemon 1% CAP Lemon Lime 1% TFA Orange Cream 3% TFA Sweet Raspberry 1% TFA Toasted Marshmallow 1%
Ice Cream Base: Vienna cream and the VWC are the main players here. I have just recently started using Vienna cream but I am in love with it already. The VWC gives it sweetness with a nice touch of vanilla. As for the coconut candy, this may seem like an odd choice, but I think it really rounds out the ice cream flavor in low %. It can easily turn your juice into a nasty bottle of sunscreen.
Fruit Base: I was playing a guessing game here since there are tons of opinions on the exact flavor of Blue Moon. I started with orange cream to simulate the "dreamsicle" flavor I gathered from my last tasting. I don't see a lot of love for juicy lemon, but I think it works pretty well in ice cream flavors. Lemon lime adds another nice citrus element without being too overpowering. And finally, the sweet raspberry. This is the flavor that is puzzling me. I haven't quite nailed the balance of raspberry and citrus that Blue Moon is known for. Any advice with this would be much appreciated!
Misc: I decided to use toasted marshmallow instead of regular marshmallow to add a bit of complexity to it. I also feel that it adds a bit more sweetness to counter the juicy lemon and lemon lime.
I am still working on this, and to be honest, I'm kinda stuck. And not having this ice cream available in my area as a reference is not helping. Any tips from my Northern neighbors would be much appreciated!
Most of the homemade recipes for Blue Moon ice cream call for Vanilla pudding, Raspberry puree / Raspberry Extract and Lemon Extract.
You could take a ice cream stone base and add those previously mentioned flavors to it and see if that gets you close.

Milkstone is for a milk flavor. You can Google 'ice cream stones diy ejuice' to find a couple.

Have you tried the RF Blue Moon Ice Cream flavor? I have no experience with it but it's worth a shot.

So what seems to be off in your recipe? Never had the ice cream, just trying to "unstuck" you. Do you think you have nailed the ice cream base? Is the fruit close to the original? Does it feel more lemony or does it need more raspberry?
I think the ice cream is on point. I may sub the Van Whip with Vanilla Swirl, but other than that it's good. The problem I'm having is with balancing the fruits. I'm trying to balance the lemon and lime with the raspberry. I've been told that sometimes that blue moon almost tastes like fruity pebbles. Hoping to find the balance out soon!
Every time I've had blue moon ice cream it reminds me of like fruity pebbles, with almond. I think there's almond in it.... have you thought about adding some of that to your mix? Good luck finding your missing link bud.
can't be bothered to check through all the comments right now (at work), but have you tried using FW Beetle Juice? It's not gonna be your saving grace like it was for Cannibal's SHURB clone, but in a low amount, it may bring about some of those bright underlying citrus and fruit notes you would want in Blue Moon ice cream. Added benefit of bringing a nice creamy mouthfeel.
Honestly not sure how well this will work, if at all, but I'd definitely give it a shot for science.
