Some of you may have remembered me posting a few months back about going on my year long RV trip across the USA and making juice for the trip. Just wanted to give an update!
I batched almost 400ml of juice for myself to make it a few months to use on the road. I didn't take my supplies with me as I was coming back to our "home base" after 2.5 months and would re-batch again for the remainder of our trip.
I ended up almost perfectly calculating how much juice I needed and ran out 2 days short! Pretty good if you ask me! So I had to buy a bottle of premium juice to make it through until we got "home".
I tried that premium juice after only vaping my stuff for almost 3 months and wow. The quality and flavors of my juice far exceeds what I got out of this premium. I guess I always thought starting out that my ejuice would just save me money but the premium stuff would always taste better. But now after tweaking some recipes and even using clone recipes my juice I make at home is KILLER.
Wanted to thank this sub for the great info and encouragement. It's crazy to think I paid $27 for a 60ml and I just made 200ml last night for pennies on the dollar.
Much love from a traveling hippie family!!
We did it Reddit!
edit: /u/philisweatly if youre ever in south tx and need or wanna make a recipe himme up.
We will be traveling through south TX probably around jan or feb next year. Will definitely hit you up.
what was your recipe?
I make a clone of mothers milk that I tweaked a bit. The strawberry falls off after a few weeks and the creamy flavors dominate so I changed the original percentages. I also use "caramel creamy custard by thirdworldorder. Both these from eliquid recipes.com.
I am trying to come up with a good banana cream pie as well as a salted caramel coffee but alas, I'm still tinkering with those.
Can you share your tweaks to mother's milk? You described my exact issues with it.
I lowered the Bavarian cream, sweet cream and vanilla custard by 1 percent in one batch and it did pretty good at the 2 month mark. The strawberry still dies off but the creams are not as strong keeping it somewhat balanced.
I just batched another and cut everything by 50% and I'll see what that gets me. I did this because i just ran out of enough strawberry ripe to make another 100ml batch so I figured I would mess around some more with the recipe. I have a feeling that the strawberry ripe flavor just simply dies after a few months and there isn't much I can do.
honestly ive never really heard about diy juices till today, but do you really have to use all the chemical flavourings? asking as a dumb ass, why wouldnt stuff like orange or vanilla extract work? like natural flavourings i mean
They probably would work but not at the same potencies of flavor. In ejuice it's also about the chemical reaction between your flavors/base liquids that make the juice flavorful and remain flavorful. Those flavor concentrates allow for that.
Now if you made some straight up natural flavor tinctures and used those I would be excited to hear your results.
I'm speaking from only 4 months or so of doing this myself.
Bro this is awesome! I've noticed a big difference the other day when my friends asked why the juice they bought from the store didnt taste or feel as good as the juice we make at home.
It even shows in my coils and wicks. I used the same cool and cotton in my RTA for over 3 weeks and the cotton was still clean and coils had 0 gunk build up. It was amazing. I kept getting good flavor and kept checking the coils every few days and they kept looking clean so I kept using em. I eventually rewicked just because I had a new flavor but I could have kept them going even longer.
Man that's so good! I am actually going to track that now. Since getting into DIY juice I havent really given my coils and cotton much thought and care (just been using replacements for my tank). I'll track it and see how well they do, didn't even think about it! haha
If you are ever in need of juice in the new york city area id be happy to help you out!
You forgot to put quotes around "premium"! Dude, don't even feel egotistical, I've grown to the same conclusion, I sell juice (locally and kinda of under da tayyybllleee) and have heard the same thing from so many customers. I think it's the lack of effort to put into "premium" juice, but really, wouldn't they want their juice as good as this? Not like it's any cheaper to make theirs. I honestly can't figure it out. I do however know they use sweetener to make it seem better, which to most it does, until they try it without. That shit makes me puke. I literally use 1 drop sweetener/30-40ml, they use up to 1-1.5%+ which is more than 10x as much as I use. The only reason I even do, is just for a tiny tiny hint of sweetness om some flavors that need it. Also, I've always wanted to go on a road trip like this, glad you had a fun road trip, positive vibes fam~.
Thanks brother! Its been a hell of a trip so far.
I thought the same thing about sweeteners when I first started DIY. I was bummed out that my juice didn't have that sweetness that I thought I craved out of a juice. Then after my palette adjusted to my own juice with none or like 3 drops in a 100ml of sweeter I came to realize how much better and smoother it felt. Will never go back to store bought big brand juice!
Much love as well.
>400mL of juice for myself to make it a few months to use on the road.
I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem like near enough unless you're vaping 6-12mg/mL nic. Even then... I go through at least 120mL a week at 3mg/mL. If I was looking at 2-3 months away, I'd be bringing at least 1000mL of juice.
That's you, I can get by on 30-50 ml a week easy.
I could get by too, but not if I'm on a road trip. On the road that much I'd easily up my consumption by quite a bit.
