OK new mixers, this is your thread to ask any questions you want of the DIY eJuice community. All posts are allowed, but we still encourage you to use the sidebar and search features before asking any questions.
- Placing your first DIY order and want to make sure you have all you need?
- Not sure about how to mix your first bottle?
- Want to get started but aren't sure how?
- Any other questions? ... then this is the thread for you. FWIW, the answers to the first three questions will eventually be found in the wiki (still in development); link at the top of the page.

I just got my stuff, made some gods milk and Hawaiian POG remix from all the flavors. They're fuckin good guys, shake and vape they're awesome, can't wait for them to steep. I'm proud of my ability to follow a mixing calculator I guess lol and that this will actually work and be really worthwhile. My friend filled his tank with the POG and loves it, wants more. How much do you guys charge friends to cover expenses and maybe contribute to a new flavoring or two? 30, 60, and 120mls.
And I need a nice scale, my kitchen one doesn't measure fractions of grams like I need it to.
I always charge friends $5 per 30ml, which seems to be the norm around here. I will sometimes lower the price a couple bucks if they get a 120 or larger, just so i dont have to make them juice as often lol.
For the scale, get the AWS LB-501. It is the most commonly used around here and for good reasons.
Hope this helps.
I calculated (and I mean, really calculated in a spreadsheet taking way to much time to do so) and it costs me $3.10 / 60mL bottle, $2.33 if they return the bottle (hahahahaha yeah right) so I charge $5 for 60mL / $10 for 120mL.
I am not factoring in my time, because:
- I enjoy mixing and I'd probably be at the workbench anyway
- They are my family / friends, or people close to them
- I'm not mixing in quantities where the cost of the materials impacts my budget / cashflow (I can afford to do it)
Since 60mL 'premium' juices can go for $18 - $25 in stores and most of these people are too lazy to order online, they really appreciate my prices.
At the end of the day, charge what you feel it's worth. I mean, don't rape them over a bottle of juice, but you don't have to give it away either!
So i got in DIY flavor shacks caramel apple (i wanted something extra in my cart with the mmmmm holy vanilla), and i mixed it at 5%. not enough flavor really, but i'm worried overdoing it will make the taste too chemically. wondering if there's a good candy to kinda go with it, or what sweetener maybe i should add? i have marsh, ethyl maltol, and a standard sucralose sweetener.
Looking at DIYFS average percentages, you can probably bump it up a bit. Without having tried that concentrate I can only speak in general terms, but few concentrates stand well on their own. You can boost whatever aspect you want of it. Some FA Caramel, TFA Brown Sugar or even a tiny amount of FA Honey to enhance the caramel part, or some FA Fuji, FA Liquid Amber or any number of regular apple concentrates to add to the apple (or why not some FA Pear or Apricot?). As for adding sweetness, you should try to stick to sweet flavors primarily. Marshmallow will alter the taste a bit, EM could work but there's a high chance it will also mute the apple. Sucralose is basically like pouring sugar over everything, perhaps not really suitable for this and will wreak havoc on your coils.
I didn't think of the pear and apricot, good call on that. I've never tried to add honey, that's a thing to think on as well. I also didn't think of the maltol muting the Apple, I've only used it a small amount, trying to figure out just how it interacts with other flavors still. Thanks for the ideas!
Just some ideas, you could take it in any direction you want. Pie crust, yellow cake, almond, etc could add some body to it.
Use FA Honey very sparingly though, at 0.5% it will blanket everything. Start at 0.1%. And avoid TFA Honey, I hear it's atrocious :)
Maltol is tricky as it's not actually a sweetener per se, unlike sucralose. It's only perceived that way. I use it mostly to take the edge off sharp flavors. The problem is that you find maltol or one of the variants in every other concentrate, and it stacks, so if you already have a couple of sources in your mix and add even more, it doesn't just take the edge off, it blankets the flavor.
About FA Forest fruit mix, thinking about adding one more flavor to it, should I go for FA Custard or just add FA Cream fresh like the majority do ?
¿Porque no los dos?
Try 3% Forest Fruit, 2% Custard, 1% Cream Fresh.
Is there a way we can follow your posts about mixing? It says "undefined karma" or whatever upon clicking your nick. And yes, I'm a noob diy'er 🙂
Welcome to DIY! I don't know how to do that other than scrolling through someone's comment history but that seems kinda stalkery. But I think the some of the best content here is in the Flavor Reviews and Flavor of the Week threads, both are complied and in the sidebar, be sure to check them out.
Are there any guides for making eliquid by weight? I get how it works, but I don't understand how to make a new eliquid by weight. I can follow a recipe by weight though.
Maybe i don't get your question but...
www.e-liquid-recipes.com, sign up, create a new recipe. It'll tell you how much of each to put in based on what percentages you enter.
You can remove the 'by weight' part from this question. I believe you want to know how to make original recipes.
I've asked variations of that question myself and searched far and wide for the answer -- and still the only answer I've come up with is 'trial and error.' You just have to mix shit and see what works.
I keep getting a burnt taste from my vape after a few hits, someone suggested it could be from the VG being too high and it's not rewicking fast enough. Should I change my mix from 70/30?
Need more details. 70/30 isn't really high for today's atomizers. What's your setup and give us an example of a recipe that is causing you problems.
SMOK Stick V8 M2 Coil 0.15ohm, It's happened with a couple different flavor Mother of Dragons Milk and a store bought The Grape White by Lost Art..
New to vaping here, just got my starter kit (2 bottles VG, 1PG, 5 flavors and 50mg/ml nic).
Always vaped premium eliquid with no trouble, but friday I tried to mix my own and got a terrible throat irritation when inhaling and mostly when exhaling.
Tried to vape only VG, went smooth, only PG, went smooth, both together went smooth too, but when I add any flavor or nic it gets terrible, even with like 3% total.
My flavors are Strawberry (Ripe), Bubblegum, Creme de Menthe, Black Honey and Vanilla Ice Cream, all by TPA.
Any idea what could cause this? I'm used to smoking tobacco so I guess nic isn't the problem (but even VG+PG+Nic with no flavors gave me this dry sensation)
still need specific recipes or brands or we all gon say its your nic.
I went with 6mg nic, 70/30 VG-PG, 5% strawberry and 3% vanilla ice cream.
Impossible to vape.
Tried 0.5% bubblegum with no nic and can vape, but I can feel the harshness yet.
hmm i have vanilla ice cream but have never used it. also seen it used much higher than that though.

have you tried your recipe without nicotine?
how old is the mix?
does your recipe taste like pepper?
where's the nicotine from?
Could be the vanilla. I get a harsh metallic shit taste from any vanilla flavouring. Other people are more or less sensitive to different vanilla flavourings. Might be worth trying the vanilla on its own in just VG.
To me most vanilla tastes like butyric acid. It's always the first impression and leaves me disgusted.
When I concentrate on the flavor a bit I actually notice that is does not even have butyric acid (in most cases) and it is indeed vanilla.
But I don't enjoy it much because of that.
General two-part question for long term DIY juice makers.
First, after Vaping your own juices for a long period of time, have you tasted vendor made "Premuim" juices, and if so how were they? Secondly, is it possible for your taste buds to become reacclimated to the taste of additives in said premium juices after not vaping them?
My example with the second question; After vaping my own liquid since the 7th of this month, I went to taste some of my S/O's premium juice, (Sour House Strawberry by The Neighborhood). To me, it tasted like smoked sausages. Very very odd, and unsatisfying at that.
Does anyone else have experience with this? Theories?
Premium means nothing except that they jack the price up for absolutely no reason. Premium isn't a measure of quality.
So it's really just because they can, and for the sake of making money, they call it premium. That makes sense. I didn't think it would have been possible for certain companies to be able to obtain ingredients that were somehow way above standard grade.
Some companies have their own proprietary flavor labs, but most are using the same ones we all have access to easily. That's still not what would make it premium. It's just a meaningless buzzword for expensive juices unnecessarily loaded with sweetener.
>after Vaping your own juices for a long period of time, have you tasted vendor made "Premuim" juices, and if so how were they?
Beyond sweet. So much sucralose I can't tell what other flavors they're using. It might as well just be 5% cap super sweet in VG. It made me sick.
>is it possible for your taste buds to become reacclimated to the taste of additives in said premium juices after not vaping them?
Yeah but the only additive you'll be finding in "premium" juice is sweetener. usually sucralose. if you keep vaping it you won't taste it as much.
The juices I thought that sucked before I DIY'd still suck and the ones I thought were good are still good. They're just a tad "safer" to my taste buds now, because they're aiming for many people to like their juice. I like to take small chances in my mixes to change things up and make an intriguing flavor.
I have heard time/steeping won't necessarily make a bad juice good. Now I understand but to me most juices taste bad before steeping. Is there a way y'all know if a juice should be thrown out instead of into your dark and cold abyss you steep your bottles?
Also I'm stubborn and bought like 60 flavorings instead of picking a recipe pack and I swear I still only have like 10 things I can make. Does the flavor purchasing ever end? Im going to pick a dessert recipe and fruit recipe and get the flavorings I don't have and do it that way now, but man other than that I feel like I can only great new recipes instead of using ATF and other sites. I guess try substituting flavorings too
> Does the flavor purchasing ever end?
Kind of depends on what you're after with diy. If you just want cheap juice, you can find some recipes you like, and just keep making those. Start buying bigger bottles of the flavorings to cut costs a bit more.
If you're wanting to start creating your own recipes and get adventurous, I don't think that it does end. As long as manufacturers keep releasing new flavors, you'll want to try them to see what you can create with them.
I started out as the first type (except I created one recipe that I made for a year and a half) and now I'm more of the second. I end up placing like 2 flavor orders a week because I'm impulsive and not patient enough to do a wishlist and all that.
You could also put those 60 flavors you have on the Suggest a Recipe thread to get some ideas.
I'm steering clear of the juices containing Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl, so I got V2 of CAP Vanilla Custard. How will effect recipes with V1? Can I replace these in future relatively the same?
Steep them 1 month minimum or twice as long as is recommended, whichever is longer.
For clarification sake, is that prior or once mixed, either or both?
Steeping begins when you mix the flavor into VG PG etc, when the flavor is on its own in the original bottle it doesn't affect anything. CAP VC v2 needs a while to steep because of the butyric acid in it, at first it will taste sort of vomit like. A month is generally optimal steep time from the day you mix it.
Is there any way to replicate LA lemonade by using any CAP, TPA, or FA lemons? I screwed up my last spreadsheet and didn't order my sweet sweet lemonade, and I've got to mail juice across the country tomorrow ahead of flying down for my best bud's bachelor party. I feel like CAP juicy lemon can do a bunch of heavy lifting, but LA lemonade has got this perfect dullness to it and I don't know how to get there.
Thanks!
Not really. You're probably going to have to just make something else.
But what is it you're trying to make that needs LA Lemonade? Maybe someone could figure something out if they had the recipe and knew what else you have on hand to mix with it.
This is the recipe-
Vendor|Concentrate|% |:--|:--|--: CAP|Sweet strawberry |.5% FA|Red touch |1% INA|Shisha strawberry|.25% LA|Lemonade|5% CAP|Italian lemon Sicily |1% FA|Polar blast|1% CAP|Super sweet|.25%
As far as flavors on hand that seem relevant, I've got: CAP juicy lemon, Lemon Sicily, TPA Lemon II, INA lemon mix, FW lemonade (never tried), FA black currant.
Guys, when a recipe calls for sucralose - is there a sweetener option that won't gunk your coils to death? I haven't gotten as far as learning to build yet... thanks!
EM isn't a sweetner but it tastes sweet but it mutes mixes.
FLV Sweetness doesn't mute or gunk and is a all around good sweetener.
Nothing is going to sweeten like sucralose will but those two are your best bet. Honestly though, I just omit sucralose all together when a recipe calls for it. It's usually not necessary and if it is find a sweet flavoring for the mix instead. Using sucralose is just lazy.
Gotcha, thank you. Utterly clueless without the guidance
FLV sweetness is great from 0.15-0.5% ... Needs a couple days to really become sweet.
Another option is erythritol which works very well when using fruity blends .. from 0.5-2%
Lastly, monk fruit extract is great for sweetness but carries its own taste and will not work for most applications. It's best when used with chocolate or banana. Also quite strong I'd start at 0.1%
These are all great options when trying to get a really sweet result and avoiding gunk
Hi all have any of you tried the Juul tobacco pods? Its a very light and simple tobacco. Does anyone have suggestions on what can replicate that flavor?
I haven't tried their tobacco one ... It's difficult to mimic their flavors because each flavor uses a different balance of acids which further effects the flavor.
I'd give the tobacco pods a try but my girl mostly uses my juul and she likes the creme brulee and mango. It'll be weeks til I can try the bacco one. Hopefully someone who's tried it knows something I don't
So I only got Capella Vanilla custard v1 and tpa graham cracker (clear) .. would 8% cap v custard and 2% graham mix out to something vape-able ?
I would say yes but personally that is too much custard for me. If you like the heavy eggy flavor then go for it. I like around 5%, assuming you have a decent atomizer for flavor. You'll need to steep it for 2 weeks to a month before it's going to be awesome.
The flavor might be slightly boring without a fruit but worth a shot.
Cap by itself at 10% is very vapable. I keep some of that around all the time for when I don't want much flavor, just smooth and mellow. Also use it to reset my coils when I had a strong flavor in there, as it mixes well with anything.
Has anyone done any testing on nicotine distribution in a bottle over time? Like if I put 1.000g of 100mg/mL in a bottle containing 80.0g of VG and 40.0g of PG, stored at 23c, it reached an even distribution of nicotine after x days without agitation.
Where can I buy lorann flavours in EU? Preferably a site that sells other common flavour brands as well.
Hey guys iv been playing around with my first recipe and need some advice from more experienced mixers 😊 im aiming for a dark berry mix, after reading the reddit and researching i mixed my first batch. It was nice but not sweet enough for my taste so iv tweaked the percentages and added a sweetner, iv now arrived at-
Haunter v1.1
Fw blue rasperry 4.5% Tfa black current 4.5% Tfa black berry 0.8% Tfa citrus punch II 0.3% Tfa sweetner 1.5%
Could this benefit from the removal of citrus punch II? Also im wanting to perhaps add a red berry such as strawberry or cranberry and also contemplating adding a fizzy sherbet. Is my my pallete off? Am i heading in the right direction?
I haven't tried FW Blue Raspberry, but this looks like it could be good. I'm not a fan of TFA's Blackcurrant, try INW or MB if you want a more realistic berry, but TFA's may work here in a way that they wouldn't.
Anything citrus tends to mess with flavors. It can make them pop, it can mute them, I always leave that out while trying things out so I can tell for sure what it does. When in doubt, leave it out until you're happy with the profile, then try again.
Same with sweetener, it has some muting properties that can inhibit development. It's usually better to use inherently sweet ingredients, as a lot of concentrates already contain sweetener and they stack. But when you're happy with the profile and feel it could use some more sweetness, then it's a good time to use it.
For strawberry, you'll want TFA Strawberry or FA Strawberry, I think those would work best in this profile. TFA for a more candy like berry, FA for a more realistic.
Yea, what you're making sounds good and I like your ideas. Don't be too concerned with what is the "right direction", that is entirely up to you and what you prefer. Be persistent, make small changes, don't be afraid to try new things and you'll end up with something you'll really enjoy.
hi! is there a good coconut combo? I'd like to try a mix with blueberries!
Any good redbull recreation flavors/recipes? I've seen a couple for sale but they don't have many reviews, or details as to if they can recreate a redbull taste as a single flavor, or if they need a good mix with something else to sell the taste.
Does steep time vary with combinations of flavors as well as individual flavors? That is, if a flavor by itself takes a week to come in, will any recipe mixed with that flavor still take at least a week to come in, or do combinations of longer and shorter steeping flavors shorten or lengthen that time?
It's always based on whatever flavors you have in your mix. If you have CAP Vanilla Custard and Strawberry in a mix, it's going to require the full steep for the full flavor to come through. Just because Strawberry is in there, doesn't mean that it's completely ready to go.
So it's always going to require the full steep for the longest steeping flavor?
That's the gist of it, but it's not the whole story and require isn't the word I would use.
Juice changes over time, it varies greatly from recipe to recipe. Some are good right off the bat, some keep improving, some have a peak, some fade. The only way to find out what's best for a specific recipe is to sample it within a few days of mixing, then in one week intervals. And be sure to take notes every time.
Edit: To clarify, a flavor may need two weeks to mature fully. But it can taste great after a couple of days too. And it will keep improving.
Am I correct in assuming that most flavorings are PG? I've been messing around with Ejuice Me Up and figuring out that it's quite a nice program, but the section where you add your flavor percentages, it asks if I need to zero out PG/VG. I'm assuming I leave this alone and leave it at 100% PG. When do I know if that's different?
Hey guys, newbie question:
Why the majority of recipes in this sub are recommended with 70% VG? AFAIK, the more PG the more flavour, which is what we're all looking for in the end.
I've been mixing the most famous recipes with a 50/50 base, resulting in a 30-40% VG / 60-70% PG, and the taste is good, but since everybody always put 70% on VG in their recipes, i was thinking about starting to mix focused on 70% VG, but i don't want the new batches to taste less or worse than the first ones.
Am I doing it wrong mixing the flavor % with less VG? or it doesn't really matter that much?
More PG does not give you more flavor. It is a better flavor carrier than VG, though. Higher PG amounts (50 and above) aren't really suitable for today's setups. You certainly can, but depending on your gear, high PG will cause leaking and will burn. 70/30 is just a decent balance between PG and VG. I myself usually mix 65 VG/35 PG.
Well i know that excess VG can mute the flavours, but i guess 70% isn't "excess". I've been vaping 35/65 VG/PG and i didn't burn anything nor leak juice both with TFV8's and with a dripper.
What i'm looking for is taste, idc about "cloud chasing" or anything like that, but i'm afraid that going towards 70/30 i might lose taste from where i'm coming from.
Thanks!
I have always mixed at 60vg. I don't notice a difference if it is 70, but higher than that is muted.
As to why you see 70/30 more, maybe that is a good balance for either a tank or a dripper?
Yeah i don't know why everybody does 70/30, i thought at the beggining that u could get maximum taste like that but after reading a bit it doesn't make sense.
As i said up, i've been vaping some recipes from here (ur kiwi cheesecake is one of them, amazing btw) with a 50/50 base, resulting in a 35% VG / 65% PG juice, which i've been using with TFV8's and with a MadDog dripper, without any specific problems and with good taste.
Now i bought VG and PG separatedly, because i wanted to mix with 70% VG...
The thing is, will i lose taste going from my 35/65 juice to a 70/30 or even a 60/40 juice? or it will taste better because the flavor % are tinkered thinking in 70/30 or 60/40?
Thanks!
I agree with leaping's reply, so no worries on taste. And thanks for the kind words! I never get tired of that recipe.
FWIW, I think in the long run you will be glad you picked up seperate pg and vg. If for no other reason than having the flexibility now to make any ratio that you or a friend may want.
really depends on the setup of the vape itself. I think the popularity of sub ohm builds is what led to a high 70% VG to become the standard, but you can always try it yourself. PG tends to give a harsher throat hit, so I mix mine at the lowest 60% vg, but I do notice a stronger flavor with less VG and more PG, it's all a matter of personal taste. Another thing about lower the VG, you don't really need as much flavoring, the VG tends to mute flavors which is why there are so many recipes with max VG and like 15% flavoring.
Hey guys and gals, long time lurker first time commenter. I'm looking to get into diy and I was looking at the recommendations on the side bar and was wondering how often that list is updated? I ask cause I know things change from week to week.
Which recommendations are you referring to?
Ah my fault I forgot that part. I'm just looking to get started making my own juice. I would mainly been looking for the nicotine, as in who has the best quality of nicotine I can use. I would be looking for a good blueberry flavor, more on the sweeter side. A good plain custard and a cactus milk. Maybe a few other flavors. I kind of have a flavor I'm chasing lol.
CXT is best quality. For Blueberry get TFA Blueberry Extra, FW Blueberry and FA Bilberry. Custard would be FA Custard (Euro style custard), and CAP Vanilla Custard V1 (US style "custard", more pudding-like). Cactus is INW Cactus. But before you start off on making your own recipe, you should find some good recipes in this sub and on ATF, and order those flavors.
this spreadsheet may help you get started if you're working within a budget.
HI beginning mixing own juice i mix per grams my question its is i already view guide for tip bottle gts/ml anyone personne have guide our similar guide ? excuse me for my English i am french Canadian hahaha
If im mixing 80/20 PG/VG am i going to produce less or more vapor then the other way around in interested in more vapor and less of a taste really
FYI the accepted convention is VG/PG, people see 80/20 and think 80% VG to 20% PG.
/u/sirfletchalot nailed it. Be aware if you're actually vaping 20% VG to 80% PG right now, and plan on turning that completely around, the resulting mix will be much thicker and may perform differently in your device / tank. Thinner juice (higher PG percentage) flows and wicks much more easily.
Good Luck!
I'm ready to start making larger batches! I've already bought and received my scale. Whats next? I know I'll have to buy beakers and squirt bottles for vg & pg. Best methods for cleaning the beakers? What do yall reccomend for stirring?
What are you using beakers for? When I do big quantity, I just squirt everything in to a condiment bottle, shake the shit out of it, steep, then squirt in to 30 or 60 ml bottle for daily use.
That makes a lot more sense. For whatever reason I was thinking I'd need to get beakers and a stirring tool, I'd much rather do this. Thanks for the advice.
I'm going to make the recipe for Mothers Unicorn Milk and it calls for 10% TFA strawberry(ripe). Well I am having a hard time tasting TFA strawberry both ripe and regular. I have RF SC Strawberry, I was wondering what % I should use to replace the 10% strawberry(ripe). I've read 2.5 is the max you should use but this recipe calls for 10%. Thanks in advance.
TFA's Strawberry offerings are not strong flavors. They need support to push them forward. And using Strawberry Ripe by itself, especially at 10%, is odd. Try RF SC Strawberry at 2% and Strawberry Ripe at 2%. It's my favorite strawberry right now. I also recommend picking up JF Sweet Strawberry to complete that sweet sweet Strawberry orgy.
I have CAP sweet strawberry. What % would you recommend adding to the RF SC Strawberry and the Strawberry ripe? If at all. Thanks.
Mistakenly bought some 20/400 7x89 PLASTIC pipettes instead of glass ones to fit on my 60mL boston rounds that I mistakenly bought with regular caps... Will these be ok for flavor bases or should I send them back and get the glass ones? I don't want the plastic eroding inside of the juice or anything in my bases that contain citric acid.
EDIT: Pipettes are LDPE so we're good!
I'm not an expert, so this is just a thought... all flavorings I've ever purchased come in LDPE plastic bottles. I don't think there's anything to be worried about.
Newbie needing advice on smooth cream flavor to buy
Hi guys I would like to convert my 18mg nicotine eliquid to 12mg. How much 0mg base do I need to add per 250ml of 18mg eliquid?
Thanks
Hey, Wondering what the best place in the UK is for all of this? I can find all the mixing stuff and bases but not sure on the flavourings. Is the best way just to order from the us sites? I am also very very very sensitive to throat hit, like most threes mess me up, I can really only vape stuff from nasty juice or herbal tides but I am wondering if the menthol is what chills it out for me, anybody know if there's any truth to that?
TL;DR: I need to know where to buy all this stuff in/from the UK and I am a wimp about nicotine so it needs to be smooooooth stuff. Does menthol cool down throat hit?
For flavorings, have you tried Chef's Flavours?
Yes, some people have reported that menthol smooths over throat hit for them.
How long should I wait before breaking a large batch into smaller ones? Mixed 110ml, wanting to breakdown into thirty's. Should I wait for it to steep?
So last night I mixed 3.5% black for pipe single flavor. Today I noticed a white foam floating on top, anyone know what that's about?
I did my research but I just couldn't find a specific answer to my question.
Just correct me if I said something wrong. So far, I've learned that for a whole 1L bottle of nicotine, it's best to transfer it to a smaller bottle to eliminate oxidation or exposure to air.
Does this apply to both VG and PG as well? (not mixed together) for example, if I used 100mL from 1L of VG, does that mean it's better if I also transfer the whole VG into smaller bottles?
Also, should I put both VG and PG in the fridge or just the nicotine?
Yes, better to break down nicotine regardless of the base it's suspended in.
Cool dark place works for raw VG and PG. I store all my nicotine in the freezer.
thank you! should I also break down VG and PG or just keep them in a dark place doesn't matter if their bottles are half full?
Hello guys i need some help from the UK readers of this subreddit. In 15 days i am moving to the uk and it would be great if you send be some link were to buy the bases i will need. I found out that on amazon i can buy vg/pg for quite the good price compared the price i buy them in my country (Bulgaria) but i think they dont sell nic bases on amazon. So if you have any suggestions or recommendations i would be very great full. Thanks.
I'm not in the UK, but I've heard good things about Lucemill.
I can't really understand the way how custard and/or creamy flavours (Bavarian, Catalan, etc.) mixes with fruits. I've tried nearly every possible ratio, steeping/aging time. I use max 7% flavor in my mixes (rarely though) and normally max 5% flavor in a 50/50 pg/vg mixes. I've tried CAP (V2), FA, FLV custards and TPA cream flavours together with FA fruit flavors.
5% total flavor percentage is probably not going to be enough.
I guess I just need to accept this when it comes to custards and creams: low flavor percentage doesn't work.
As a serious custard vape lover I can assure you that u/EdibleMalfunction is correct. I've mixed up so many different fruit/custard combos I've lost count.
And only recently have I discovered u/ID-10T simple sugar cookie recipe which is amazing, I'm on my second batch already and this one I've added a hint of CAP juicy lemon to it.
I am also a yuge fan of custards. CAP VC + Forest Fruit is amazing
Okay so I want to try and develop my first original mix, a moist heavy dragonfruit cake with vanilla icing. I still need to do a bunch of single flavor testing but thanks to this sub I have been able to do some research and select a few flavors and %'s I think might work together. Going to mix this up tonight and see if it's shit or not, any suggestions are very welcome... Can't decide if golden butter or butter cream would work or is needed in this mix. Pretty sure I'm overcomplicating this mix as well, not sure what to take out though. Would strawberry be a good flavor to try and incorporate, I know it usually works well with dragonfruit.
Did some research and updated my recipe, not sure if its better or not haha. Gonna experiment until i get my new flavorings in.
> Cake (Yellow) (FW) 2% > > Cake Batter Dip (FW) 4% > > Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA) 3% > > Dragonfruit (TPA) 2% > > Golden Butter (CAP) 1% > > Meringue (FA) 1.5% > > Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA) 3% >
TPA Dragonfruit is actually not a Dragonfruit flavor.
You probably do not want to use FW Cancer Cake. You'll want JF Yellow cake.
CAP Vanilla Custard will give you some Vanilla, but there's no egginess involved with that. It's more of an American pudding like Custard.
Awesome thanks for the Input! Really appreciate it :) I guess I have some extra flavors to add into my upcoming motherload order haha!
Currently I don't have JF yellow cake or that dragonfruit flavor. If I were to just work on the cake base until my order arrives, is there any other flavors that might work for a good heavy and wet cake base? I was considering giving CAP glazed doughnut a shot since it's very doughy tasting; to replace yellow cake?
A friend gave me a 250ml bottle of TFA Irish cream since his juice company is moving away from cream and diketone containing flavors. I haven't seen many recipies using it or many flavor notes. Just wondering if anyone could share their flavor notes or experiences using this concentrate? I love Irish cream in coffee and Irish cream type candies, so I'm just looking for ways I can use this massive bottle of flavoring in my recipies. Coffee flavors would be the most obvious but I don't like vaping coffee juices.
Also; anyone have ideas on how I can safely make my own saline concentrate for making my bakery flavors?
Haven't tried it, but you can probably combine it with chocolate, nuts, or any number of creams or coffee flavors. FA Tiramisu perhaps. Here's a suggestion with absinthe. Start with a single flavor test at 5% and steep for two weeks, apparently the steep is vital.
As for saline, you can buy it at a pharmacy, but make sure it's just salt and water, no preservatives. You can make your own with 0.9% table salt and PG, it'll dissolve if you just shake it now and then, no heat required unless you're impatient. There will be impurities however, so don't make a habit out of it, and it will spoil pretty fast so don't make a large amount. Also wrecks coils.
When experimenting with adding new flavors to a juice, is it reasonable to just start with the average % on ATF?
Example:
Say I have a 5%/3%/2% mix. I want to add Caramel FA. I look it up on ATF, by far it's most used at 1%. So I just make it 5%/3%/2%/1%?
That seem reasonable? Anything else to be thinking about?
Thanks.
This is just a simple pro tip for noobs regarding work flow, premaking the base of VG/PG/Nic and using large 120ml bottles is a life changer. I basically fill all my bottles with the base, leaving room for 5%/5g pg flavor assuming 100ml batches, then whenever I want to try a new recipe I just open one bottle and add flavors, no need to bust out the entire kit and deal with all the mess and cleanup.
