So I ordered some juice which has been recommended to improve with further steeping.
And I own a crockpot. So I Googled.
Double zip lock bagged everything. Banged it all in. Took off the fruit ones after an hour. A little more than hand hot. Cooled them, shook them, uncapped for their 12hr breathing.
Meanwhile threw the dessert ones back for an hour and a half.
Oh jesus
Roasting, baggies flattened not melted. And some of the bottles, the non easy squeeze ones were now rounded at the bottom! No bubbling or anything but I know boiling point higher in pg/vg.
Have I made a mess of the second juices?
I'm gonna keep with the plan and see..
TL:DR DID I NUKE MY JUICES WITH THE CROCKPOT!
total noob BTW, in case nobody guessed...
Crockpots, ultrasonics, 12 hour breathing, it seems everyone who gets into DIY think that heating and breathing the juice is part of the process. Where do these ideas come from?
People being very impatient...
Yes, that was exactly it
We're excited to get started and taste our juices. Waiting a month sucks.
I've bought into steeping and am trying to find a middle ground by working useful shake-n-vape elements into the process (like flavor testing. i shake-n-vape them and then steep them).
I almost never mix something new up and leave it to steep without giving it a taste first. Otherwise I won't know how it changes over time, when it's ready or what flavors need adjusting. Besides, it if tastes bad right after mixing, no amount or method of steeping will make it good :)
Not neccesarily 100% true about "if it taste bad right after mixing, no amount or method of steeping will make it taste good".
There are many flavors that arent exactly "good" right after mixing them. There are tons of flavors that many DIY'ers know need to steep for top notes to fade, blend, homogonize, etc.
So in turn, some flavorings do taste "not so good" right after mixing but a steep can do wonders.
I'll NEVER understand why this is such widespread misinformation about steeping. I made the same mistake at first but caught on early. It ruins the nicotine and makes it really harsh if you don't vape it right away. But when your new and do a Google search for steeping this is the first thing that pops up.
Mix it, shake it, forget about it, the longer the better. You can't rush greatness. The real secret is mixing enough that you don't have to touch it for at least a month. I honestly go around 3-4 months at this point.
You don't need to do any of that, if anything its just hurting your juices more than helping them. If you're going to use it you don't need an Hour and a half maybe 10 mins? I wouldn't know I have never used it.
TL:DR you don't need to nuke you juices with a crock pot, just wait and let them steep.
Oh! and you don't need to leave the caps open either, that's just letting the aromas out.
heating and breathing = killing the flavor unless you plan to vape it all in the next couple hours.
I suppose I better get vaping. Feeling bloody foolish too
dont feel foolish. a lot of people do heat steep liquid, and swear by it. it sucks to lose a bunch of juice, but you should use this set back as an excuse to start DIY.
If they were more than hand hot, you borked them. And borked them even further by leaving the cap off. To be honest, all that juice is probably garbage. Don't heat "steep." There's no such thing.
I remember an advanced mixing thread in ECR about additives and stuff that talked about heating new mixes.
edit:found the thread
They concluded that constant heating @65C for a period of 4 hours did add ~2 weeks of steeping to their juices.
"Constant" stable temp seemed to be key.Personally I like to let it mature naturally in a dark cabinet and try the juice every week until it tastes ready.

I'm about to sticky this post to the top of the sub's homepage. I wish the title was better though.
I'm surprised we haven't had the "NAH MAN HEAT STEEPING WORKS, MAN. ITS CHEMISTRY, ITS SCIENCE" people in this thread.
Ya wanna speed steep? Take your bottle, Tuck it up under your nuts, go for an 8 hour hike in 98 weather. The gentle swaying will prevent over steeped areas and the humidity will ensure the aromas meld evenly. Or just wait, patiently. Usually with most juice, except some custards and stuff, a few days will be good enough to vape.
Heat steeping will oxidize your nicotine very rapidly. I did it at first too. Sorry bout your juice man.
No nuts. No 98deg weather. I'm a woman living in Ireland!
