Weekly 'Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors' Thread - Week of August 04, 2017
submitted about 8 years ago by AutoModerator

Got a bunch of flavors but not sure how to make them work together? Post your list here, and our team of semi-professional mixologists will make suggestions for you! If you are impatient and want to do this on your own, here are a couple of good links:

  • /u/daath has a nice website that has this functionality, but you will need to register to make it work. It is not very intuitive but if you work with it you can input your flavors and get a list of recipes that you can make. IMO this is the better site if you have the patience to make it work for you. Edit2: to get this to work, first set up an account. Then add your flavors to the stash (under my page / my flavor stash). hit save. Then go back to the front page and click the link next to the search field, "Search by flavor stash". You can select a couple of your flavors and recipes that have those will pop up.
  • This site has a nice big search button with just what you're looking for.

Happy Mixing!

Cactus (INW) 1%
Dragon Fruit (INW) 1%
Fuji Apple (FA) 2%
Sweet Strawberry (CAP) 3%

Someone will have to suggest a percentage for subbing in TPA's dragon fruit, but I saw someone say at the same percentage is was good.

This is a pretty good summer recipe. Also cactus that high at least for me, has an almost cooling effect, which is near.

I posted a few weeks ago, and then I ran out of Kentuck Bourbon. I'm getting tired of root beer mixes and desperately need to order more flavors. (CAP Sugar Cookie is on the list) So any suggestions to get me by till I can order more flavors, maybe a decent pina colada recipe. Thanks

Decent pina colada flavor with just TFA Coconut Extra for coconut and TFA Pineapple for pineapple and no rum? Not possible.

Try some easy pineapple ice cream though. 3% TFA Pineapple, 7% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

And if you like that but get bored of it, try jazzing it up with 0.5% Coconut Extra, 1% TFA Sweet Cream, 1% TFA Toasted Almond, or 1% TFA Toasted Marshmallow.

You're gonna need some different tobaccos for a good tobacco custard, I think. But try this custard:

6% CAP Vanilla Custard, 3% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, 2% TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust, TFA 1% Sweet Cream, 1% TFA Marshmallow.

Thanks, I'll try your recipe.

For the tobacco, yeah, I actually bought these on my quest to replicate tiki juice from halo. But if you have some recommendations, I am willing to buy some.

  • Cookie (FA)
  • Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA)
  • Vanilla Custard v1 (Cap)

2 flavor mixes of these? Sure. The only one I can't help you with is Kettle Corn.

6% Vanilla Custard

6% Vanilla Ice Cream

4% Bavarian Cream

4% Cheesecake Graham Crust

1.5% Cream Fresh

1% Sweet Cream

0.75% Cookie

0.5% Biscuit

0.25% Acetyl Pyrazine

Choose any one of the top three and mix it with one of the others in the top three or any of the bottom six.

Choose Cheesecake Graham Crust and mix it with one of the others in the middle three but not one of the bottom three.

I've never tried it. Butter Toffee Fiddle Fiddle vape does sound great though. We should send Butterscotch Boy (crap I missed the chance to res tag him) some FW kettle corn and see what he comes up with.

Np. Blueberry cheesecake is awesome. Cheesecake ghram crust is a flavor to consider for your next purchase if you like it. You can add .5% ghram clear if you want.

Juicy peach, dragon fruit, and sweet mango are all awesome flavors and my failsafes for lazy shake n vape. Try the peach and mango separately as well. Sweet mango plus bravarian cream plus a small amount of FA white peach is a good peaches n cream (FA white peach is incredibly dry but it gives the juice character)

Mango-tfa, Cool Mint-Cap, 10% EM, Extreme Ice-FW, Hard Candy-FW, Honeydew-tfa, Koolada 10%, Marshmallow-tfa, Peach Juicy-tfa, Pineapple Juicy-tfa, Pomegranate-FA, Strawberry ripe-tfa, Sweet Strawberry-Cap, Watermelon-LA.

Just starting out, and if it wasn't obvious I like fruit and menthol. Any help appreciated.

1 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

The thing about menthol/koolada is that it's very much a matter of sensitivity and personal preference. That's why you'll often see recipes that say to add it "to taste." So it's going to take some experimenting to find the amount that's right for you. 0.5% is a good place to start with Cool Mint, Extreme Ice, and Koolada, though. If it's not cold enough, use more next time.

What to try those things with, though?

Try 2% Honeydew + 2% Juicy Peach + 1.5% TFA Mango + a cold thing at 1%.

And/or 4% Strawberry Ripe + 4% Sweet Strawberry + 2% Juicy Pineapple + a cold thing at 1%.

And/or 6% LA Watermelon + 3% Sweet Strawberry + a cold thing at 1%.

3 points

by tboneathomeabout 8 years ago

Thanks so much for the reply. I'll give these a try. Maybe 2% on the honeydew will keep it from over powering everything. The la watermelon and sweet strawberry didn't occur to me.

Strongly advise trying all of these flavors individually, taking some notes on them, and deciding for yourself which ones taste to you like they'd be good together. If you really want to get into it, try them at different percentages to get a feel for how they taste at different concentrations.

But here are some ideas for simple combinations:

Strawberry Nana: Banana Cream 3.5%, Strawberry Ripe 5%, Dragonfruit 1%

Strawberry Kiwi: Strawberry Ripe 4%, Kiwi Double 1.5%, Dragonfruit 1%

Vanilla Mint: Vanilla Swirl 4%, Spearmint 0.75%

Kiwi Melon: Watermelon 4%, Kiwi Double 1.5%, Dragonfruit 1%, Strawberry Ripe 1.5%

Dragon Cream: Dragonfruit 5%, Vanilla Swirl 3%, Strawberry Ripe 2%

Strawberry Melon: Strawberry Ripe 4%, Watermelon 3.5%, Dragonfruit 1%

Let the ones with Vanilla Swirl in them steep for a week.

Thank you very much, I will definitely try them all out individually, just wanted some recipe ideas for when they arrive. I am a chef by trade so I understand flavors, but this is a bit different

2 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

Well, shit. As a chef, you don't need me telling you which flavors should go together. Could have just given you some solid starting percents for using them in mixes as a main vs. accent flavor.

The only one you might not be clear on is dragonfruit. It tastes like white gummy bears, sort of a pineapple/pear/peachy thing. There's a tartness to it that brightens other fruits and a chemical in it that helps other flavors blend together when used at a low %. Strawberry Ripe contains a chemical that softens and sweetens other flavors but that softening can really mute flavors so it's not always a good thing.

I'm not sure what else you might need. Definitely looking forward to seeing what you cook up on your own.

I am in Canada and my favorite supplier, unfortunately, does not yet carry Inawera which seems to be the most common of my missing flavors. Another Canadian company DOES carry Inawera, but it seems they are out of stock of the flavors I need when I have money, or I am out of money when they have stock! In particular, I would love to find a nice citrus flavor, with orangey notes or something "Margarita" ish... I've been able to pull together some fairly good cheesecake type recipes but am getting sick to death of those, just want something fresh and summery with lots of fruit! Thanks, and I apologize if my formatting sucks....

Are there any other flavors you would recommend I could buy that would go well with some of the flavors I have? I'm kind of regretting getting 99% fruity flavors

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

Strawberry/Peach/Coconut is a classic combination. I think it's called a "Flamingo" profile.

I would recommend finding a recipe that looks good and is well-reviewed, buying the flavors you need to make it, and mixing that up. At the same time, single-flavor test all of your flavors so you know what you're doing, and you can start tinkering with that recipe to tweak it to fit your own taste and then building your own. Here are some recipes using flavors you already have in addition to some that you'd need to order:

If You Like Pina Coladas

Timebomb

Peaches & Cream

Cobbled Peach

Tamamango

Awesome Apple Pie

Honey Sucker

God Milk

Mother of Dragons' Milk

Dreamsicle

Watermelon Crack

Banana Milk

Berry Creamy
