So, I track my finances with Mint, and had created my own category for vaping to see what I spent on it. When I was debating if I should DIY juice, I did some math and I was like "Geez, that sure looks like a 90+% savings, can't be that much." I was wrong, it was at least that much.
Between February and March, I made an investment on DIY juice gear (scale, flavors, vg/pg, nic, etc). After a $45 re-up on flavors in April after finding kind of my regular mixes...
I realized that the only vaping thing I have spent money since on was $8 worth of cotton a week or so ago.
I was probably averaging about $125 / month on juice alone before I went DIY. Now... Saving a ton. THANK YOU all from /r/diy_ejuice.
Here's the graph:

(edit: a word)
Awesome. I'd probably save more if I wasn't obsessed with constantly buying flavors.
Yea it's weird the graph doesn't show the $75 order from bull city every month
Nice to see it in a graph like that, i know iv saved alot but may have to try this mint thing, might actually make me look at what I'm spending in other areas, What have you done with your saved money? Treated yourself to anything you normally wouldn't be able too?
I really recommend mint, I'm sure they're mining your data and making money off it, but I used it to help me buy a home and swear by it after.
I just increased the amount I put into savings, though. Not exciting, until... I have a lot of savings and it's really really exciting :)
My problem with any kind of budgeting app is that every one of them either: a) requires you to manually enter every transaction you do or b) updates automatically, but not until a few days after the transaction took place.
If there was one that updated instantly and automatically, then I would be all over it. But banking technology is unfortunately too shitty for that to be possible.
Wow. I wish I had the ability to do that myself. I switched to DIY when tanks were less hungry so it wouldn't have been quite as much at the time. Over 90% saving now, if I go by current levels I go through.
Sell a couple of bottles at a great price and you can turn it into profit pretty easily.
>Sell a couple of bottles at a great price and you can turn it into profit pretty easily.
Definitely. I sell mixes at 5$ for 30ml to friends and coworkers. 120ml for 15. I don't make a profit because I've spent a looot on flavors but it does help offset the cost of bottles and VG/PG.
Right on. I'm happy with my equipment so all i ever bought was a $5 pack of coils and a $40(!!!) 120ml bottle of liquid every 5 weeks or so. Now I make 240ml for a couple bucks, my coils last longer, and I don't have to worry that shipping isn't going to make it in time before I run out.
So many benefits.
Last year in January I spent $70 shipped and made a gallon of base. I bought about 40 flavors ($40 with discounts) also. This lasted me all year and I still had 1/4 a gallon of base left that I tossed out last month. I still have over half of the flavors too...
I decided to only make 2 liters this time. And spent even less money. I'm going to spend about $20 to replenish some of my favorite flavors too.
I vape around 5-10ml a day. Let's just say I vape 2000ml a year... A 60ml of suicide bunny is $25 not including shipping or brick and more markups... 2000/60x25= $833~ I spent about $110 and the base lasted 1.5 years and I still have half the flavorings left and even tossed some base out; eventhough it was still perfectly clear and tasteless.
> $8 worth of cotton a week
wow .. what cotton is that expensive? or do you change your cotton after every puff?
Hahaha, no, I have only spent $8 total since April on vaping at all, just that cotton I bought "a week ago or so". That $8 worth of cotton and it lasts me probably six months and I rewick every other day or so.
