When I started vaping it was extremely hard for me to find a juice that I liked. That's one of the things that got me into mixing. I tend to mix strawberries and cream. How is it that ejuice companies are able to keep such a vivid strawberry flavor in their recipes after sitting on shelves for months? When I mix a recipe it seems like the strawberry starts to fade after a few weeks of steeping. Is there a way to remedy this problem? I have every strawberry that is popular. INW Shisha Strawberry in combo with others seems to last the longest.
My guess is they use a lot of flavoring and also multiple strawberry flavors. (I'm not 100% though)
I was thinking they must use a higher percentage of flavoring. I'd like to know. I'm also curious to how certain companies sweeten their juice. It seems like a combo of sucralose and ethyl maltol.

Imagine a jam/dough cookie covered in castor sugar. My question is not so much with regards to flavor, but rather texture. When you bite into this cookie, you get a sense of the castor sugar which is distinct and separate to that of the cookie itself. After a couple of chews, obviously the buttery cookie flavor will dominate, but for a brief moment these two flavors/textures were separate.
I was just curious if someone would have any ideas on how to achieve such effect? Is this layering?

personally: do you think a 2% sub of fa cookie would work in place of 5% cap sugar cookie, or would 2.5-3% be better?

Ok so, I'm a long time lurker of the sub, don't believe I've ever posted anything though, so please be kind lol.
I don't have a lot of money (between rent/other bills, work and culinary school, I'm absolutely broke) so lately I've been looking in to buying a flavorless base already premixed to 6mg/ml. My questions are:
Who ships fast?
If I got a 1L bottle of flavorless base, how much flavor concentrate would I need for a 120ml bottle or even a 30ml unicorn?
Is there any flavor mixes similar to Golden State Vapor's bananas foster or hex?
If I didn't get any flavor extract/concentrates, and just vaped the base straight up, should I get a higher ratio of pg? Because I assume that flavors help with the throat hit and the feeling of vaping...
I really appreciate any help anyone can give. I'm just lost at this, even though I've read the side bar several times.
I have heard good things about Carolina xtracts shipping but idk if they have base per say, but you can get PG and VG super cheap so that seems like a decent way to go. It's probably cheaper to mix the base yourself
(Btw. I just used like 5-7 mls of flavor in one 100ml bottle for reference, seems like that's on the low end. And also, I just tested 50/50 + 60/40 pg/vg and definitely preferred 50/50, solid throat hit, the 60/40 was too dry and harsh with my recipe)

its ok we all make gross mixes. you wouldnt have good without bad though. like if everything was good it would just be normal. and thats no fun.
finding highly rated recipes is a good way to start, since the creator has already done most of the work. if you dont like the end product you still have good flavors (hopefully).
Do any of the more experienced (or not so experienced) mixers have any thoughts on DIYFS Holy Vanilla vs INW Shisha Vanilla? When I started DIY a few months ago my first flavor order included DIYFS holy vanilla because it is used in a highly rated clone recipe of my ADV. Initially I was only interested in clones of my ADVs but having mixed for a bit I'm really starting to see the potential of DIY and now I'm branching out into all sorts of recipes. Where ever I see INW shisha vanilla in a recipe I have been subbing in the DIYFS at a similar percent. I was under the impression that both are "ultimate" vanilla flavors. If I have one do I really need the other? any thoughts are appreciated.
In the settings at All The Flavors, if I'm mixing by weight should I leave the default flavor density as "same as water"?
i pretty much do calculations in my head (by memory/extrapolation)and use 1g per ml for flavor or nic in pg. the same as water
vg is 1.26g per ml
some people go by specific gravity but all that matters is that you can replicate your recipe. not that pear flavor may weigh 1.10g for a made up example.
So I received my RF SC flavors (Apple, Cinnamon Roll, Sugar Cookie, and Grape). I mixed single flavor of grape at 3.5% and I am loving it already!! At my local café, they are known for cinnabuns and I love treating myself to cinnabuns from time to time. I would love to do something with my cinnamon roll concentrate to create cinnabuns recipe. My favorite commercially available juice is Ahlusion's Peach White Tea. I've tried replicating that and have failed miserably, resorting instead to a mild green peach tea flavor. If the marketing is to be believed, Ahlusion develops their own flavor concentrates for that. I tend to almost believe it, as multiple juices of theirs taste very unique and I can't pick out the individual flavorings at all.
- I have yet to try FW White Tea, so can't comment on that one. Will have to get some to give it a go.
- TFA Earl Grey is about as far away as I could possibly imagine from what I was going for, but YMMV. To me, that bergamot flavor dominates, way too strong for such a subtle flavor as white tea.
- TFA Honeysuckle at VERY low % with TFA Green also at low % might be the right direction, however in my experimenting it's not quite... right. Gets too floral too quickly.
- I have ZERO experience with any flavoring manufacturers outside of FA, FW, TFA, and INW. Expanding beyond those might be the only solution, but I'm a creature of habit.

I can't really help the OP but I can tell you that I think Ahlusion is using tea extractions or proprietary tea flavors, so there's a very good reason why you haven't had much luck replicating them.

Hello just starting making my own ejuice and have a quick question sometimes when i make this recipe http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/858672/Naked%20100%20Lava%20Flow I get cloudy ejuice sometimes I do not. I have been steeping three bottles for like 2 weeks and one has cleared up and the other has not. Are they safe to vape? thanks!
TFA Pineapple is likely the culprit for causing cloudiness. As for why one bottle has cleared up and the other hasn't it might have to do with how well you shook one bottle vs the other or how well you shook up the concentrate before adding it to the mix.
I have tried many iterations of this recipe and TFA Pineapple will always end up irritating your throat. Here's my variation to it. I have Marshmallow and Banana cream, which tones down the pineapple a bit. If you strictly want to mix up the recipe you mentioned, reduce Pineapple to .7% or even .5%.
And yes, TFA Coconut/Pineapple can make your recipe cloudier. But it will settle down in 2-3 days.
Just did two, no nicotine, mixes on the 25th this month. Currently steeping but when I tried my Liquid Barn Cola freeze, 80% VG / 20% PG with 10% flavor, it tastes burnt and kinda shitty. I am using an E-Leaf iJust 2 kit and a store-bought E-Liquid tastes just fine. What do you guys think? More steeping time or should I mix with more PG?

TFA Cheesecake is one of the worst flavors you can vape. Tastes like used gym socks with molding cheese fungus. You may be one of the lucky ones who actually likes it but that's unlikely.
INW Strawberry is hard to work with. I've only messed with it a few times and it goes from barely there to floral very easily. I'm not a fan of it. INW Strawberry Shisha is leagues better.
Tfa cheesecake is something different than tfa cheesecake graham crust? Cuz i love the graham crust mixed with fa vienna cream & tfa graham cracker clear as a pretty solid cheesecake base for a lot of mixes
Hi guys, bought like ten days ago some flavors from Flavor West, respectively Blueberry Cotton Candy and Blood Orange. Being a beginner, I didn't thought to try them first, so I made 100ml of each flavor, at 10% concentration. Now, I don't like them, really, last time I tried to vape a tank of the Cotton Candy, I almost threw up, it even stepped for 10 days now, but nothing changed.
My question is, anyone tried to mix these up, or something similar? I've heard the cotton candy Is more a sweetener, so maybe I can try... I also have some Heisenberg I could mix. I don't know, maybe that sounds stupid, being that they are already mixed, but I've spent a lot for them (nicotine is not cheap here).
You learned an important lesson here, don't make massive amounts of anything you've never tried before. Most solo flavors are pretty boring just by themselves.
Honestly, if those are the only flavors you have, you're not going to have much luck with them at this point. You mixed those at such a high percentage that really nothing is going to help. You're likely to just ruin more juice trying to make it vapeable.
both those flavors should be used at 3% or less in most applications. Especially anything labeled cotton candy. cotton candy flavoring is just ethyl maltol, which is more or less an additive. Ethyl maltol can sweeten mixes when used properly but above 1% it will just mute your flavors over time. Try ordering flavors based on recipes you'd like to make. Go to alltheflavors.com and find one or two highly rated mixes that sound good. Then do your shopping for those recipes. It will give you a chance to familiarize yourself with those flavors. =)
What flavors should I buy next? I'm only really interested in fruit recipes. I have TFA apple, strawberry and DX peach. Was going to pick up dragon fruit and blue raspberry slush next.

Yeah that's fair. I just don't want to order specific flavors for recipes I don't end up liking. Would rather build up a collection based on what I'll use the most
I suppose you could browse the lists in this thread and pick out the interesting sounding fruits. Probably have a better shot at finding recipes you'll like by searching through the top recipes. Find 2 or 3 that look good, but hit different fruits that interest you. Then if the recipe ends up not being that great, you've at least built your inventory with things you might find a better use for. Either way you'll be gambling a bit. You'll most likely end up with flavors you don't like, but at least you'll only be out a couple bucks.
Some staple recipes I've been mixing every other week over the last year or so. There are a lot more excellent ones I go back to, but ATF is your friend to find them.
Add strawberry ripe bt TFA, cactus from INW, pomegranate TFA, and if you like fruity candy....rainbow drops TFA, sweet and tart.
Polar blast is another good one for fruity slushies.

My cantaloupe from flavor west I recently ordered smells like nail polish remover. Anyone it experienced this flavor before?
Ok so I dont have FW canteloupe but have had this same experience with other flavors. Because I dont have that flavor I was waiting for someone else to chime in but ima share anyway.
Ive had multiple flavors smell like isopropyl alcohol, alcohol, nail polish remover, and even the nail polish remover with acetone. the flavors tasted fine when used in dilute amounts after time.
In my experience it was the use of ethyl alcohol as a solvent to blend flavors into a solution. It evaporates out of the final mix with time. However I must reiterate: Ive never used FW cantaloupe.
edit: not saying all those alcohols were used in the flavor. I am saying that those concentrated flavors combined with ethyl alcohol. smelled like other alcohols
I have a new juice that I'm working on. Its 5% FA pomegranate 5% CAP Dragon fruit and 2.5% TFA chai tea. 3mg nic at 70/30. After letting it steep for 7 days the flavors are spot on where I want them, however it has a very dry mouth feel. I want this juice to have a juicier (wet) mouth feel. What can I add to this mix to give it that feel?
TFA Dragon Fruit, INW Cactus and FA Pear can bring wetness to a mix, in some cases CAP Cucumber works too. There might be more. However, I'm not so sure it would have much impact here. 5% FA Pomegranate sounds very high, I would tone that down before attempting anything else. Drop it to 2-3% at the most and add some other flavor or brand if you still feel it needs a boost.
Thanks. I am looking for a very bold flavor with the strength of the pomegranate. Originally I tried it at 3% and it just didn't pop the way I wanted it to, so I increased it to 5%. Yes it was strong but, after it set for a week it was right where I wanted it. I will try the Pear in the next batch I mix up and maybe drop the Pomegranate back down to 3% along with dropping the Chai Tea down some too.
I've been DIY mixing for about 3 months now and was curious about a few things. What do you look for when buying nicotine? Is there a way to do a huge base of pg/vg so you can just add flavors and go?
As for premixes, you can buy or make them yourself, the drawback is that you lose some control. With PG/VG, you lose control over the ratio, which is fine in my book. I still have the separate components too, if I want to adjust it or max out in either direction. With nic, you lose control over the strength, which is a bigger issue. And if you buy some random premix with nic, it's very likely to be of poor quality and highly oxidized. Nicotine needs to be of high quality, shitty nic ruins the experience.
TL;DR - Get quality nic and mix that by hand. PG/VG premixes are fine if you're not too fussy about the ratio.
I'm just getting started in mixing, bought a very nice strawberry concentrate, pg/VG and nicotine shots. I made it exactly as described 70/30 but I'm still getting a scratchy throat. I'm sensitive to PG but the concentrate and nicotine were PG based too (never had an issue before with friends home made stuff) and I'm wondering if I can just add more VG?
Should I try make it 80/20 next time?
It probably needs to sit for a few days for the alcohol to evaporate. Some mixes are harsh after they are first mixed.
If it's a PG sensitivity then lowering the amount of PG used in the mix would help.
A girl at my work said it was perfect, it tastes great I just get this scratchy feeling in my throat. I added some VG to it and shook it. Will whip up another batch higher VG (as max as I can with PG based flavour and nic) and see how it is after a few days.
I mixed my current batch up on Monday afternoon, vaped it on Tuesday at work and it hurt like hell on my throat, the guy at the store shook it for me when I made it in front of them to make sure I was doing it right.
I have some left of the store own brand 50ml + nic so I'll use that and some backup raspberry sherbert. I can't afford anymore eliquid this month which is why I went the diy route, I was spending £15 every few days for 30mls.
So have you had this concentrate before? Or is this your first time trying it. Because some concentrates just don't taste right or have bad throat hit for some, but not all, people. It kind of sucks but that's just the way it is sometimes. I will say that even if it hurts your throat now, save it and let it steep. Go back to it after 3 days, after a week, after 2 weeks, and after a month. If it still hurts your throat after a month, your body just doesn't like that particular concentrate :-(
Edit: this is all assuming that you have already tried mixing it at higher VG.

Do premium liquids just use a shit load of sweetener or am I missing something?
I've been messing around and trying different recipies on ATF and ELR. They have been quite nice and enjoyable, but I recently got a couple premium juices (golden ticket and mango bobba) and they are so full and sweet and rich. For juices like that, is it really just a load of sweetener that they use to achieve that sweetness and mouth feel? If so, what types of sweetener are best to get that sweetness? I don't mind having less sweet juices but I also like to have one or two available for when I get a sweet tooth (I don't eat sugar or anything sweet usually, so vaping replaces that for me). As always Help is much appreciated! This sub has been such a valuable resource for my first steps into diy
A lot of it is sweetener. However the fullness in flavor can be achieved. I find that a lot of DIYers are deathly afraid of over flavoring and go to the opposite extreme.
Hmm interesting, thanks for the reply! So aside from sweetener, you are suggesting they might use more percentage of flavoring than most diy recipies? I usually have about 15% flavoring or less in my mixes, is that kind of low compared to "premium" juices? I always thought going above 20% was excessive but I don't know much about making juice, just going off what I've seen around the internet.

Hey all. Another noob mixer here with another noob question.
I'm looking for a good artificial banana flavor for a banana cream recipe (also need help with the cream). I'm looking for more of a "banana pudding" style banana with more of a banana runt candy flavor as opposed to a natural banana flavor. Anyone know of a concentrate fitting this description?

You can take this recipe as a good starting point
TFA Banana Cream and LA Banana Cream are going to be your best flavorings to use for this type of profile. TFA Banana Cream is more of the cream pudding flavor while LA Banana Cream is a runts flavor with no cream notes.
Hi, I received all of my DIY items through the post yesterday and went straight onto trying to make my own liquid. So I looked on a post on Reddit elsewhere (I'm from the UK also) and they told me what to order.
So I have these so far:
-18mg 70/30 VG PG Nicotine shots (18 bottles) -Pinkman concentrate (justvape247) -Pink lemonade concentrate (justvape24/7) -Blue raspberry slush concentrate (justvape24/7) -250ml VG and 250ml PG -20 x 30ml bottles for the juice. -Scales for weighing
So I followed a tutorial and used an online eJuice calculator as I was told mixing via weight is better than doing it by drops or ml. Here are two Gyazo screenshots of an example I was using to get a 30ml bottle of juice with a nicotine strength of 3mg.

So here are the questions I have:
By following this and the items I ordered, am I doing things right? I find even when I made one with 0mg nicotine, there's not much flavour and a tiny harsh hit on my throat I've steeped a couple of them for just over 14-15 hours and still the same. I have also tried a couple of methods I have seen online such as leaving them covered in warm water, letting the water cool and shaking etc. I have also not steeped one or two of them as a lot of places I looked online said steeping isn't necessary. I couldn't find a website here where I could order 72mg nicotine so I had to resort the the shots. Thanks all. Help is much appreciated.

The math is correct, your juice is 3 mg/ml with 10% flavoring. As for mixing/steeping, shake the bottles before use, shake the finished mix thoroughly, then if it needs time, store in a cool and dark place. Don't heat or breathe the juice.
I haven't tried the concentrates you're using so I can't speak for their quality or strength. You could try bumping the flavoring up to 15% and increasing the PG to 50%, just for the sake of troubleshooting, although the harshness will increase. If you're comparing it to commercial juice, maybe you're just missing the massive amount of sweetener they contain. The atomizer you use definitely has an impact too, some tanks work well with dessert type flavors while being terrible with finer fruits and berries.
To sum up, you're doing fine. It's either the concentrates, your expectation of them, or your tank/coil.
Sorry I completely missed your reply. At least I'm doing things right, that's a good start haha. I've tried testing the juice in an rda with fresh coils and wick and also in two other tanks, one with a new coil so I'm guessing it's either the steeping time that's needed or the fact the strength/quality of the juice isn't great. I have a couple bottles steeping so far and it's been around 20 hours now so I'll feedback with the result once I've finished work. Thanks again.

What is the difference between steeping a juice for a week and shaking it, using half the 10ml, and putting next to the steeping juice? I haven't really had a dedicated steep yet, so will it mature even if i use it very slowly over a week?
Shaking it is just mixing all the ingredients together evenly. Steeping is letting the mix homogenize to get the flavor to be at it's absolute peak. Some flavorings, like creams, custards and tobaccos, don't taste like much freshly mixed but after sitting for a while they get really rich and vibrant.
I mean to say that will it mature overtime if I use it a little bit throughout the week. What's the difference between it just sitting still in a dark place and occasionally being used in the steeping process
What Strawberry flavour would people recommend as a first strawberry? I am looking for something that is good on its own but also versatile to mix with other flavours.
Also does "Sour" have any effects on coils like sweetner? I am not interested in adding extra sweetner but I do like sour fruits as well as fruits.
TFA Strawberry & TFA Strawberry (Ripe) are two of the most popular and versatile for a beginner.
Sour mutes mixes pretty quickly and, depending on the amounts used, gunk coils up. LA Lemonade, which is loaded with citric acid aka "sour", always leaves my coils gunked after a few days. Not black gunk but a clear looking salt.
Made 240mL of this about 2 months ago but I subbed the CAP VBIC for TFA VBIC. I just took 30mL of it out and added some nic to it and noticed it was peppery...I've vaped at least 90mL of this batch and never encountered this. I've heard of TFA VBIC being peppery to other people, but it was never a problem for me. My nic tastes fine in other mixes that I made today. And the Unicorn Milk smells kinda like acetone...What in the entire fuck? Did I let it steep so long that it went bad? In 2 months? It has been in a closet with all of my other large batches. And the room I mix in is kept cool and has blackout curtains...None of my other mixes with the same nic and same VBIC taste weird.
EDIT: Peppery taste is gone. Guess I just didn't shake my bottle well enough and got a nic hotspot or something.
Looking for flavors or recipes that stand up to a "bully build".
I mixed up a simple forest fruit (5%) and cream (3%) juice and tasted, as I always do, in my hadaly. After an overnight steep it was fine. Dripped some the next day with no problem. I'm on the go a big chunk of the day and usually have 2 or 3 tanks in the car so I don't have to refill while driving or to have different flavors as I drive. No problems with a 1 ohm kayfun build - flavor is on point. Same with a .7 serpent mini build (flavor was particularly good in the serpent mini). When I want a bit more cloud I use my iJoy Exo tank which has a beefy 3mm ID .3ohm build (small builds don't really work well in the Exo). what was a fine juice was really muted and weak in the Exo. I don't use super tanks like the baby beast etc. For the most part I use single coil rebuildables. No problems when dripping. I'm having problems getting flavor out of my "beefier" tanks. What sort of recipes work best with beefy builds?
What wattage are you running on that Exo? might be too hot, for that tank id try a dual coil, run it a bit less hot and take slower drags. (maybe?)
The Exo is a single coil tank. I vape it under 45 watts usually in the 35 - 40 range. I've tried the same juice with similar builds (or even lower ohmage) in my dripper with no issue. That tank, I think, just mutes flavor some. I was hoping to change the juice to a "stronger" juice rather than change the build. I only use that tank in the car when I have a taste for more clouds.
EDIT - looked at the Exo again and there is dual coil deck option (which I probably tossed when I opened the package) but with very rare exception I prefer a single coil build. I have no tanks with a dual coil build.
Can anyone suggest a good cheesecake base with common flavors (cheese cake graham crust, cap graham cracker, Meringue, etc?) buddy wants a strawberry cheesecake and I haven't really ventured into that before
CAP New York Cheesecake has had that base covered for me at 2-3%, any higher just gets weird for me, plastic sort of. Support it with a bit of TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust, FA Almond, and some dark cream like TFA Bavarian Cream or French Vanilla for a more well rounded flavor. I like to keep the cheesecake a bit in the background of a dark berry, such as TFA Blackberry. I'm not well versed in cheesecake vapes nor do I have a recipe to share, in fact it's been a long time since I meddled with it, but those are the flavor combinations I've enjoyed in the past. And it does need a fair bit of steep to really shine, I'd give it one week minimum, preferably two.
Can someone explain to me, how should I mix juices with recipies? I live in Lithuania and here we can't get nicotine separately, cause it's illegal, so our e-juice stores sell only pre-mixed bases with particular concentrations of nic. Been trying to figure out what to do for a long time now and I think it is impossible for me to mix precisely. EDIT: Also, I could try and get PG and VG separately, but it is also not easy to find the needed kinds of them and you have to buy in big bulks. I know, it sucks.
We all use premixes in a sense, as nic has to be heavily diluted to be safe to handle. Even if you can only obtain premixes in compliance with the European regulations, you can still be accurate.
Then how do you use percentages in recipies? I mean how does the calculation work? If you have x ml of premix, then, when you add flavouring, concentrations change n stuff. Maybe I'm just retarded haha. My friend just told me to measure in drops, which does not work with recipies, cause of the different and unknown densities (can't calculate the volumes) and also almost no one writes recipies in drops (would be illogical anyway) EDIT: any good calculator I could use?
No worries, it can seem confusing at first. But if you have a basic understanding of the terms PG/VG ratio, nicotine strength (mg/ml) and flavoring percentages, the actual mixing isn't hard. A calculator simplifies things since you can just type everything in and see the results. I don't have one to recommend as I don't use them though.
You can use the supplies you've listed. If you want 3 mg/ml juice, then you can just use the 3 mg/ml 70/30 base with flavoring. You may end up with 2.7 mg/ml 60/40 juice, but that is fine. It doesn't have to be any more complicated unless you're adamant about the strength and ratio, in which case you can combine the bases to hit the mark exactly. But you should get your feet wet first, find some flavorings you really enjoy, then worry about the details.
I'm not sure if you're asking how to mix? I would recommend a scale, otherwise you'll at least need a syringe. Drops are too inaccurate.
What are some of the nicotine concentrations and VG/PG ratios available to you?
0,3,6 mg is the standard, also i've checked my local provider's online shop and they started selling bases called "DailyBase" from Spain. This line of products has "Nic Shot" (70/30 VG/PG; 19,5 mg nic), which allows to add more nicotine to the juice.
VG/PG ratios available are: 50/50, 70/30 and 100 VG.
EDIT: unrelated: tired of my DIY juices tasting like shit (was really hyped to buy a couple of different aromas and the juices were impossible to vape ( example: CAP vanilla creme/custard or smth) even after extreme changes in concentrations and steeping.
You can use that 70/30 19.5mg nic just like the 48mg 50/50 nic I use. Any decent just calculator such as alltheflavors.com or dot1ml with allow you to input your nic base in whatever mg and PG/VG it comes in, input your bottle size and the nic level you want in your finished juice, and then it will tell you how much to add. You will need to buy some PG and VG to do that.
Also, it sounds like you just don't like CAP Vanilla whatever. If that's the case you're not common but you're also not alone. What are some other things you've tried?

Ok, so you had 100mg/1ml and you diluted it to 30mg/100ml? That would be 0.3mg/ml.
Did you mean to say you diluted it to 30mg/ml?
If that's what you meant, it's 3.76g or 3ml per 30ml bottle for 3mg/ml juice. Also any juice calculator such as alltheflavors.com will let you type in 30mg or your nic strength and 100/0 for the VG/PG ratio of your nic base, allowed by the desired nic strength of your juice and bottle size of your juice and do that calculation for you.
What's a good way to keep track of all of your mixes that are steeping?
I got flavor testing working pretty well with notebooks, I leave a couple pages for each flavor and it's working fine. But for mixes it's getting really messy and I need a better system.
It seems like a spreadsheet might be best since I need to keep track of exact %'s and weights and do calculations etc. But that's turned into a complete disorganized mess too when I tried it.

I would be scared one day they shut down or have a data problem and I lose everything.
I use notepad on a laptop, one file for each recipe. I start each iteration with a version number so I can reference it, listing the exact ingredients and percentages (copy/paste and adjust), followed by notes, and a blank line before the next version. Then sorting the files by folders according to success.
I could still lose all the data if I don't back it up though, and it does require a computer at the mixing station. The only real drawback is that I can't access the notes remotely. But I suppose you could use Google docs or something too.
I am on the verge of making my first mix, and I am still contemplating what I should make. I ordered Strawberry, Peach, Cream, Sour, Sweetener, and Menthol, all from Liquid Barn. The combinations keep spinning in my head and I don't really know what I should try first. Any suggestions from the seasoned DIY crowd? How would you combine these, if at all?
Liquid Barn aren't all that good to begin with, IMO. On your reorder check out some well reviewed recipes from here and alltheflavors.com and then order those flavors. Also reference the "first flavors order" from the sidebar.
Having said that, just try each one of those fruits standalone at 5%. You could also make a few batches with/without cream, sweetener and/or menthol, using those around 1% or so until you get a feel for their strength. Sour I don't have an opinion about, never tried it.
TL:DR Looking for a scale on amazon, please suggest some quality scales that arent super expensive!

Anyways im tired of using srynges and worrying about cleaning them all the time and being careful not to cross contaminate my flavorings.. so i wanna start mixing by weight like all of you pro's!
Was hoping to order off of amazon since i have prime, so im just hoping some of you could suggest some quality accurate scales for mixing by weight. There are tons of options out there and some can be quite pricey, so im hoping to find one for a decent price that works well enough for DIY. I dont wanna grab one and find out its a hunk o junk

Do others mix in their tank? I only started DIY a week ago and have 5 flavours to start with but after vaping them as they are I have started to mix them up in my tank - I already have some that I will probably make in a bottle later. This technique helped me figure a rough ratio for the Vanilla and the mint with my fruit salad and raspberry. I haven't done anything with my lime and lemon yes - just love it as it is.
Not a great idea, the contents need to be distributed evenly, almost impossible to achieve if you mix directly into the tank. You'll get random bursts of different components, so I hope you're not doing this with strong nic and flavor concentrates. But even if you're talking about diluted premixed flavors, you won't get any real idea of the percentages so you reproduce it accurately. You should consider an RDA for testing flavor combinations, but you'll still need to mix the juice properly before dispensing.

I'm not trying to discourage you, it sounds like you're having fun, so keep it up! I'm just pointing out that you would get better results doing it the normal way. I should add that there's another problem with combining premixes, and that is dilution. If you combine two premixes, each flavor actually becomes 2%, not 4%. If you combine four premixes, you get 1% of each flavor. Figuring out a ratio there gets pretty complicated. It gets even worse by the fact that twice as much flavoring does not equal twice as much flavor. So that method is really only useful for finding good flavor combinations, any math goes out the window. But keep mixing and have fun with it, that's what's important.
I've done tank mixing with single-flavor tobaccos but the combination always tasted differently (usually improved) after 10 hours or so. If you're going to use this method it would be better to mix them in a bottle and allow the mixture to meld for a day or so before testing.

So I recently found this recipe on ATF (dude.. where's my lemons? By: WhoIsJason) it's a a really good shake and vape, but I want to try and mess around with it a bit. I wanted to either add a bit of baked & crustyness or maybe add some nutty flavor into it. Was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on how I might start to modify it? I have some ideas but not sure if they are good ones haha.

So I have Cap pralines and cream which I have been wanting to use in a mix for a while. Not sure how strong it is but cap seems to need higher percentages usually. Not too sure what % would be good to start at though.
If I were to go the bakery route, I was thinking of keeping it simple and adding a bit of TFA Cheesecake (graham crust). Maybe start at 1% and go from there? Any other flavors that might work better?
Attempting to modify an existing recipe is a great way to learn how it's constructed. It is easier though to start off by adjusting the percentages or omitting some flavors to see how they are balanced and what they bring to the mix, before trying to introduce new elements. Even substituting a flavor from one brand to another can throw the whole mix off.
Adding entirely new flavors to a mix is a gamble that requires some understanding of how the existing flavors interact and what the new flavors would do, to have a reasonable chance of success. However, you can never say for sure what will happen until you try it and you will inevitably learn something from it. Stick to 10 ml batches though. Add less than you intend to and you'll still be able to notice the new flavor in the mix and see if it works, while not rendering the juice unvapable.
If you aren't familiar with the new flavors, you should solo test them first. You'll get a better idea of where it might fit, but also without knowing the properties, it'll be hard to identify the effects in a mix.
For nuttiness you could find success in FA Almond, INW Marzipan or FA Walnut, while the results might be appalling with CAP Hazelnut, CAP Toasted Almond or FA Pistachio. Could and might, there's only one way to find out.
I haven't tried CAP Pralines & Cream, but take a look at this page and you'll see that 2% is a good starting point. I suspect it might clash with the lemon and drown in all that cream, so maybe this isn't the best recipe to try it in.
Sooo, this was a wall of text basically saying that you should go ahead and try for yourself :) I like your ideas and they may or may not work, but whatever happens, you have learned something from it. I could see a wide range of flavors working in this recipe, such as INW Biscuit, FA Custard, TFA Pie Crust, CAP Sugar Cookie, etc, as it's a pretty general profile - lemon, cream and sweetness. Just have a reasonable expectation of the outcome and don't get discouraged by failures, since that is how you learn.

Really gotta start doing my own single flavor testing as well, the flavor notes on here are extremely helpful but it doesn't replace tasting it all for myself - very time consuming though haha. Looks like I got my work cut out for me haha. Can't wait for my scale to arrive, should speed things up a bit.
It can be quite interesting! Depending on how refined the recipe is, you may realize that some ingredients are redundant, such as three kinds of cream achieving the same thing or one flavor cancelling out another, or that they might serve a surprising purpose. Some flavors may be used to sweeten a mix, bind flavors together, add texture etc, and it can come from rather surprising sources. TFA Strawberry Ripe, FA Pear and INW Cactus are examples of flavors that are often used not for their actual flavor but for their other properties.
Single flavor testing is very useful in the long run, but don't try to test a ton of flavors at once. Do a few at a time so it doesn't get tedious. Focus on the ones you want to use the most but know the least about. The ones you've already familiarized yourself with shouldn't need solo testing, but that is your call.

is it a must to shake flavorings before mixing? My first 4 x 100ml fruit mixes from famous recipes are ruined because i did not shake flavorings before using. I have correctly used a scale and vg,pg, nicotine and flavorings from reputable vendors and my ejuices taste weird. i strongly believe that they have chemical taste.. i let them steep for more than 3 weeks now and they taste unvapable. I am getting a calibration weight to make sure my scale is working properly and some community recipe flavors from bullcity. I will shake my flavorings this time and mix by weight to see if it will make any difference. if it does not work, i will buy a new aws lb -501.. I am lost and i am not sure where i made my mistake.

so about 6 weeks ago, i asked people's thoughts on making a boo-berry recipe, i was directed to a recipe, in which the mixer used both sucrose and dyketone flavors to accomplish. (nexxt time i will tone it down even more) However, the blueberry did not feel distinct enough. I went to the local shop (needed some cleito coils) and asked them to level with me, not to divulge their recipe(though i did ascertain that the do seem to be mixing it themselves) and asked if their were any dyketones or sucrose at play. They said they try their best to not poison their customers, so I've narrowed it down ever so slightly. You guys have to understand, though I am sure many of you do already, this is my white whale, on a new coil, this local shop flavor was incredible, and it bothers me to know that they have the same resources i do, yet i cant figure out the profile entirely. Help me out, anyone stumble upon a secret boo-berry recipe?, help a gal out.

How do all of you guys store/ display all of your flavors? I am starting to feel like my USPS cardboard box is shabby, and too disorganized, i tried using long bags to categorize flavors into recipe, but that gets annoying as there is a lot of cross-over. Any suggestions like a specific shelf or tacklebox or something like that?
