VC v1 has a weird plastic play dough aftertaste to me have not tried V2 but I am assuming it will taste like ass to me. I ordered some TPA Custard and FA Custard is there anything else I can try?
Edit: I'm a retard when it comes to searching this sub. Found a thread that has plenty of input!
Eedit 2: Thanks so much guys I placed an order with the recommended custards and some other vanillas and will be playing around with my mixes
V1 tastes a bit funky for me too until it steeps for a week or so. V2 takes closer to a month, and even then it still isn't all that desirable to me but the steep time is definitely quite a bit longer.
INW Vanilla Shisha, DIYFS Holy Vanilla, or even TFA Vanilla Swirl (or some mixture of 2-3 of them) might be a bit more desirable for your taste buds.
Thanks for the suggestions! I will order those tonight and start playing around with mixing them.
I feel like in order to enjoy CAP VCV1, you have to appreciate the eggyness (for lack of better term) it brings to the mix after a decent steep. It doesn't necessarily jive well with everyone's tastes though.
INW Custard is also amazing. It's also the closest out of all of them to shake and vapeable.
If you haven't tried it at 8% and 8 weeks out ... you haven't tried it in its prime ..
I keep a 16oz bottle in rotation at these stats and just add finisher flavors as I go (30 ml bottle) plus nic.. and I have a constant supply of VC heaven. Then I can make any flavor of fruit or vanilla custards that require a 24 hour steep or less that will be better than anything I've ever purchased at any vendor for any price...
This is the magic liquid that Grants sells out of (or used to - not really in the loop anymore) in less than 4 hours when they posted that they were back in stock monthly... just saying .... if you don't get this from VC CAP then I am truly sad for you.....
Ok, you've convinced me to try this. V1 or V2? And do you just leave it in a dark place for 2 months or shake it every now and then?
V1 obv
also trying this. i mixed up a 60ml of 8% VC1 last night and don't intend to touch it til October 1. i'm intrigued. i used to dislike VC1 as well but thanks to a few recipes that use it at a higher percentage and call for at least a few weeks steeping i've learned to love it and consider it vital. i'm looking forward to giving this a go.
...kay, I'll throw that together and set a calendar reminder. The "magic liquid" got me. Admittedly, nothing I make lasts that long anymore. I'll steep something if I have the foresight to make more, but I'm about 90% shake and vape nowadays. This? I'll put the effort towards this.
Always use google site search when searching Reddit subs. The built in kind of sucks unless you know what you are looking for...
site:www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/ insert search term here
The new and improved search is even better. Thanks again to fellow mod /u/InertiaCreeping for that.
thanks for posting that. I've been trying real hard to use the side bar and not post questions I KNOW have been posted before. but that internal search function sucks big time. I was looking for some simple fruity recipes and got back like 10 results. I know there must be many many threads on something that basic. I put it in the new and improved search and that returned dozens of results - plenty for me to sift through and find some good recipes. I would think that search function deserves it's own entry on the sidebar. I been following this sub since January and 8 months later I find out where the "good" search function is.
Someone fetch my pitchfork while I warm up this tar. We have a heretic in our midst...
Seriously though, let it steep. It continues to improve in some mixes out to 6 months and beyond. In the end though, we're all different, some people just taste things differently. I've not tried it myself as yet, but I've heard good things about the RF SC vanilla custard from a few people, might be good to try it as an alternative.
Try Flavorah vanilla pudding or vanilla custard? I have one of those at home (will reply with which later)...doesn't need a lot of steeping (i vape mine fresh and it's still good). No weird peppery or funky notes. Reminiscent of lunch box "pudding cups." I like it, I'm also not a fan of Capella's take on it.
I ran into this early on as well. Not sure I've really solved it. One thing about Caps Custard V1 custard is its' density...it has a thick body that I don't know anything else has covered. Second on the vanillas mentioned that drop off the egg side of the custard and push on the vanilla notes.
I love vc1 but I absolutely hate it when it's 3-4 months steeped. 1-2 months is perfect for me. A few days ago I tossed out a half a bottle of Ken's strawnana custard (recipe from elr) because it tasted horrid after 4-5 months of steeping, tasted great after a month though.
inerwa custard is awesome i mix it 6% inw cust 3% tpa cust 2% jf biscuit it taste so good adv for sure i am not a big fan of caps either tpa is way better imo and inw is tops i can shake and vape inw and it taste great sure steeping helps but cant do that with caps.....
I hate it too so you're not the only one. I like practically every other custard besides Capella's. My favorites are Flavorah Vanilla Custard, Molinberry custard and INW is good too.
I'm well versed in V2, it's... it's just empty is the thing. It doesn't taste bad at all but it just doesn't do anything in a recipe. Even after a month. I've tried it at 4% in a recipe, 8%, 12% and I'm always wondering where exactly the custard is.
I'm guessing you already had TFA suggested.
Pretty keen on TFA's French Vanilla Creme. It's not labelled as a custard, but that doesn't stop me from using it to replace CAP custards in recipes at a much lower percentage. As I understand it, it's their reformulation of French Vanilla Deluxe, which I have not tried. Sweet vanilla, dense mouth-feel, and an almost spiced cream going on. I was expecting it to be underwhelming, but was pleasantly surprised. 0.5-1.5% as a backing flavor as over 2.5% seems to just make everything taste like vanilla. I wouldn't go to 3% or above unless using as a single flavor.
INW Creme Brulee is pretty good too, also blends well with other vanillas and custards; a little richer, caramelized-sugar custard-pudding.
FA Nonna's Cake, while being very much cake-like also has a vanilla custard kind of texture and taste to it, except with some buttercream icing tossed in. Plays well with other flavors, pretty decent with fruits too. Can actually work as a pretty good standalone flavor at 3% (per HIC's recommendation), but I often sneak it into my custard blends at 0.75-1.5%.
I personally love adding caramel to custard flavors, though. TFA Pistachio & FA caramel (or TFA Dulce de Leche Caramel - the only TFA caramel I like) combined with a small amount of custard flavor or custardy vanilla takes on a character almost like a creamy vanilla praline swirl ice cream, but moves over to more pudding-like if you push the custard flavors higher.
Noticed you ordered FA custard. It's a lemon custard, but it's not too intensely lemon-flavored so you can use it to do all sorts of wild stuff with vanillas, fruits, or other flavors. Notably darker than any other custard flavor I've got, probably around the same shade as a FA vanilla.
Hope you enjoy your custard journey. Mine's still ongoing and I'm even loving the blends I mess up because they end up tasting pretty great after an extended steep.
