Strawberries proved to be a more interesting topic than I thought it would be, with lots of people sharing many notes on them last week. Thanks everyone!
As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

i was hoping you meant cocaine
Do you know of any flavors that taste like cocaine?
No one has posted anything regarding recipes, or anything. So, I think I'll be the first. These are the soda concentrates I own:
-
FW Dr. Cola
-
TFA Dr. Pop
-
TFA Cola
-
TFA Cola Syrup
-
TFA Citrus Punch
-
TFA Cola Cherry
-
CAP Cherry Cola RF
-
FW Grape Soda
Yes, I mix for myself. and I have a thing for soda. I don't quite have original recipes. But this is what has worked and what hasn't worked for me.
This is what HAS NOT worked, at all:
-
TFA Dr. Pop, at any concentration. It smells fine on the bottle and when diluted. But vape it and you can only taste clove and soda. Cherry or other supporting aromas are gone. I haven't been able to find the recipe where it would be beneficial because it has this lingering carbonated taste. I've stopped trying, for now.
-
TFA Cola Cherry: I'm terrible at describing flavors. But I can say that this one smelled well on the bottle, smelled well after dilution (I tried only @10%, can't remember where did I get the idea). I tried it also @ 8%, with 2% TFA Marshmallow and 3% Whipped cream. On both cases, the single flavor and the one with extra texture, evolved to a weird chemical flavor that doesn't resemble cherry cola. Haven't experimented with it since.
This is what has somewhat worked:
-
FW Dr. Cola: Yes, this gives a more authentic Dr. Pepper flavor. but only on an RDA, I found the flavor did not hold consistently when vaping it on a tank. So, I make small amounts (10 ml or so) dilute it at 5%, shake, and let it rest overnight. I find that quite enjoyable.
-
TFA Cola: I got this looking to make my first Vanilla Coke recipe. I haven't created my own, but this recipe worked for me. The one thing I did different (and I wrote a review, of course) was to let it steep for a week. Mostly because when I vaped it after an overnight steep, it tasted like water, but came together after a few days in the dark corner.
-
TFA Cola Syrup: I think I'm a weirdo. I love this one @5%, as a standalone flavor, after an overnight steep. Haven't tried it on a different mix because I've been satisfied with this one as it is. I've heard others find it nauseating at lower percentages. But that's my personal preference.
-
CAP Cherry Cola RF: I like this better than the TFA one. I mixed it @ 5%, and it has held and lingered better. It's closer to a cherry cola than the TFA version, in any case.
-
TFA Citrus Punch: I tried this flavor as standalone. It's good but it has... a void. I tried to fill the void with FW orange, which was the only citric flavor I had at that time. Then, I found a recipe here, Baja Mas a Baja Blast tribute by /u/halld84, got the flavorings that I was missing, and mixed it. For me, that was it. I need look no further. And, I have to say. Surprisingly, for a recipe where the main notes are citric fruits, the citric aroma doesn't really fade. I made my first bottle somewhere in May, and two months later it is still going strong. I have never tasted the original Baja Blast thing, but I found this recipe quite enjoyable.
I haven't said anything about FW Grape Soda, right? That's because I haven't found the right combo that works. When I tried like single flavor @15%, it also had voids. Rather weak for my taste, but it may have been too much and muted the flavor. Then I tried it adding TFA Sour Flavor @ 1.5%. Not much of an improvement. If someone could suggest something for this flavor, whether percentage-wise or otherwise, I'll be grateful.
So, there you have it. This is what I can say about soda.
Edit: Tried to fix format, and gave credit to author of Baja Mas.
Thank you for these notes! I only have two of these flavors, TFA Citrus Punch, which I got to make this mountain dew recipe by /u/mlnikon , but I haven't gotten around to trying the flavor or the recipe yet. Busy busy busy, you know?
And FW Grape Soda. You might have blown that sucker out at 15%; I get more than enough grape soda flavor out of it at 8%. Unfortunately, I also get more than enough gunk from all the damn sucralose in that thing.
Awesome notes man. Sodas were my first genre of recipes I started mixing so this one strikes a nostalgic note with me! I'm with you on that cola syrup, I used it in a recipe at like 7% or 8% and it was an easy ADV for me at the time. Have you tried the FW Grape Soda with a lemon lime? That might be nice.
Edit: I thought I posted this last week! Sorry for the late response
I haven't messed much with a lot of cola or soda flavors, but I was partial to Root Beer as a soda, so I made a recipe for one.
- TFA Root Beer - 5%
- TFA Cream Soda - 2%
- TFA Vanillin (10%) - 2%
- TFA Wintergreen - 1%
I Made a post about it here on Reddit with notes.
I think original coke had coke in it...so this all makes good sense. And if you need to go on a long mixing binge well than no coke won't help you but it might help you feel super confident that you did make the best mix on the planet...for about 15 minutes until you need more...hahahah .....do not even entertain the idea of entering this world...now psychedelics that's another story....ok back on topic my ADHD minded friends...
I wish I had a long list of notes regarding cola and soda but the list is short and the motivation was simple. I've been obsessed with slush vapes and was aiming to make my own personal line (for me of course) of slush type vapes and well cola and cherry cola ...I don't know if that exists at the machine but always ends up in my cup somehow?!?!
Anyhow, they say cola is a combination of Cinnamon, Vanilla and citrus with perhaps some nut accents. I've been drinking it my whole life (well most of it anyway), and I never even stopped to consider what it really taste like...it was just this thing. And somehow this thing is dark brown. All I know is we love it and we even debate about the great cola war...we all know Coke is better right?! : )
So how do these two concentrates translate into vape (I only have two for reference): FA Cola is definitely a stronger sharper cola with a prominent 'spiced' note that I for some reason pick up in something like a Shasta cola or other "off" brand. Perhaps it is a cinnamon or clove related aromatic in there but I get it and I'm not alone. The LB Cola Freeze is a bit' less defined overall but more round and balanced without any apparent spiced note that I get from FA. Overall, I like the LB quite a bit' more and use the FA under it to add in some of its good qualities without showcasing its spicy side. My cola stone looks something like:
LB Cola Freeze 4%
FA Cola 1%
It tastes like cola all day long. Is it too boring?!? I've successfully added in things like Shisha vanilla and a touch of lemon sicily to pull it richer or brighter. Cherry...that is a whole other topic ...INW Cherries works with this other $30 cherry we won't give much attention hahaha. Cola tastes great. It translates ok into a vape I don't know if it is amazing. WS-23 (the best thing since ever) makes it a much more authentic experience IMO. Cold soda and warm soda....night and day. Heaven and hell? Ramble concludes.
I think I'll give that cola stone a try! I only recently got LB and haven't tried it yet. I sniffed the bottle of course; it smells kind of weird.
Cool man I'm curious what your thoughts will be. It does smell a touch medicinal maybe but I don't get it in the vape...oh how palettes vary.
Do you know why they call it Soda?
Because it's sodalicious!
Shoulda went with something involving "sodalicious." The Coke joke is just too much for some people.
Not Coke, but if you are making soda flavoring (come is included) I recommend using tfa champagne with sweet tart for a base. It gives it that grainy sugar texture that is akin to carbonation. As long as you keep it away from constant heat, it holds up for a few months. Toss in various Cola/Lemon-Lime/Cherry combinations for the main flavor flavor.
I've vaped a lot of FA Cola. I made a large batch of:
FA Cola 4%
FA Black Cherry 2%
and couldn't quite finish it..it got a little boring with just cherry. The cola itself is fantastically zippy authentic soda. Sweet, but also has a punch. I think if you spruced it up with something like more fruit, cream, ice cream or maybe root beer it could be better. Still a great flavoring.
I don't have much experience with cola's but recently got FA Cola, and I'd agree it's a pretty solid flavor for a general Cola. Could easily have lost of use's for some interesting stuff.
I'm actually working on a chocolate cherry coke cake now, I was hoping to have it ready for this FOTW but it's turning into more of a project than I thought at first and I haven't had as much time to focus on it lately.
I've tried making cakes thinking it would be easy...they mostly sucked.
Yeah, I'm kind of a fan of FA Cola, too. Mixing it with ice cream sounds like a great idea! Coke float, anyone?
Have you seen the recipe by wllmc of VU for all-FA "Dr. F'n Pepper?"
It's 2% FA Cola, 1% FA Black Cherry, and 0.5% each Almond, Marzipan, Edit: Vanilla Bourbon, and Caramel. I like it better with the Cola increased to 3%, and all of the 0.5% ingredients increased to 0.75%, while leaving the cherry at 1%. It's still a hot, flat Dr. Pepper, but it's a pretty neat recipe.
You missed the vanilla :) I enjoy FA Cola too, briefly, as a single flavor that could use some support. I would love to add lemon, lime, cherry or vanilla to it, but anything I mix it with seems to cover up too much of the cola flavor, turning it into a heavy sweetener of sorts. I've never intentionally utilized it that way, but it could probably add a sweet and juicy back note to a fruit mix. For now though, I'll probably keep this as a single flavor.
Lol I definitely vaped something like this. I can't remember the exact %s I used but it was FA Cola + Black cherry. Pretty good but I think there might be better black cherries and the cola definitely needs something to liven it up.
Heck yeah, when you first taste it it's like "holy cow this literally tastes like a cherry soda", then that enjoyment fades a little and you realize it needs some more complexity. I agree that FA Black Cherry could probably be replaced with a better cherry. Maybe some kind of maraschino cherry or something to give it a sweet, syrupy cherry like a real soda.
INW Cola is true to the taste, but its pretty harsh throat hit
Yep, it's harsh, but it has that citrus tone that it's just perfect with INW Whisky. One of my ADV on rotation. Akin to [[K-Boom Hard Man]] juice.... Damn it... Time to do another 60ml batch...
What ratio are you doing that at? 1 to 1 or 1 to 2, etc?
Oh, sorry bout that. Should've typed the ratios. This is what I normally "cook" and let it steep for at least 3 days (1week is even better)
INW Cola 2.5~3%
INW Whisky 1.5%
TPA Oakwood ~.5% (to smooth out the alcohol note o the Whisky)
As always YMMV.
o7
Edit: forgot the vg/pg... 70/30
Has their ever been an authentic coca cola recipe? i've tried many cola flavors but there's always something missing
I tried CAP Cola and it is really good. As a solo vape with 5-7% I liked it the most, but adding a 2% FA Black Cherry is also quite nice.
It tastes more like cola ice cream, the kind we get at the open air baths as kids (in Europe that's a thing). Like Langnese Cola Pop or Calippo Cola. But it's good.
Then I like FA Cola. This tastes more like a real Cola, it has that sour fizzly note too which I think is missing in CAP Cola. The ever famous 4% Cola, 2% Black Cherry is on my list too.
And then I tried to mix a Cuba Libre last weekend:
4% FA Cola
2% FA Jamaica Rum
1% Lime Tahity DISTILLED
It's steeping in the cellar...I will decant a bottle after work, so I can give my impressions. What a coincidence that it is flavor of the week :)
edit: so I just tried my Cuba Libre and surprisingly I really like it. It brings out the fizziness of the Cola more and it's quite refreshing. I like it more than Cherry Cola even.
I've mixed up some versions of that Cuba Libre, too, but never got it to the point where I felt it was worth sharing. Is that Lime Tahity the cold-pressed or distilled version?
Uh...well...that one here:
http://flavourart.de/FlavourArt-Aromen/Zitrus----Tropenfruechte-20/Limette-Tahity-Aroma.html
damn...ah found it. That one here:
https://flavourart.com/en/store/flavors/tropical/lime-flavor-tahity-distilled/
So distilled it is.
Yeah, all my own creations are not really worth sharing :) This one won't be different I fear.
Oh. Coca-Cola. Pop. That kind of coke.
Oh. :/
e - certainly don't have anything in this category, but next week I'll drop a couple recipes for the grains/wheat one. That's my fetish.
Tell FOTW to stop doing coke.
Edit: wow what a list, NVM keep doing coke.
Take it from Trance he learned the hard way.
Just say no.
Seriously though, cola flavors. Have you tried any of them?
Pretty sure they're all flat. I've probably tried FA cola in juice at shops. I have a 10ml of INW Kola laying around from a couple years ago. It's like RC cola or some other pretty good offbrand. So, a great base to build off of.
This is good timing since I'm about to attack red cream soda (Big Red) and I've had TFA Dr. Pop , TFA Champagne and HS Red Cola (bought it thinking it was red cream soda not an energy drink) I guess I better bust out the testers.
I'll be more focusing on the flavor than the carbonation. I think that might ease my burden on that one.
Is there anything "red" tasting in Big Red, or is it just vanilla cream soda with red coloring? Is HS Red Cola an energy drink or a cola flavor?
it's almost like a bubble gum flavor along with the cream. I've read that the bubble gum flavor comes from orange and lemon oils in the drink. So it's only a sort of bubble gum. Sorry I can't explain it better. I'm not good at flavor notes.
I've tried a few. But I honestly didn't like them. It always just seems like flat soda syrup lol.
That's why I think the best use for these things is probably profiles where it doesn't matter that the soda is flat. Cola gummies, maybe an ice cream cola float or cake with cola icing, something like that.
Yeah that makes sense. I've never thought of that. Maybe a root beer float would be awesome if it could be pulled off correctly. I think the tough element that winds up missing is it needs some kind of zesty feel to replicate the fizzy element of it.
Also, the cola scent really sticks to your tank after your done vaping it. It takes a while to go away.
I'm new to this forum and DIY in general. I've only made some one shots from Wizard Labs, a few single flavors, and as of Monday night Strap On by ID10-T(Which is so tasty I have been chain vaping, best bottle of juice since I started vaping in April).
One of the single flavors I made happened to be FA USA Pleasure. It tastes exactly like the Haribo Cola Gummies. If someone was looking to make a cola gummy, all they would need to do is add in a some chewiness, sweetness and a bit more sourness.
Welcome to /r/DIY_eJuice and DIY in general!
I think if you liked Strap-on, you would enjoy one of the many variants that people had fun creating.
As for that cola gummy, sounds like some CAP Jelly Candy would get you almost all the way there, adding both chewiness and a little sweetness. Perhaps a touch of Sweetener and less than 0.5% of just about any lemon flavor for that added bit of sourness would finish it off.
Thank you. I definitely plan on making the variants as well as my own due to how tasty it is. It's so nice for this Texas heat.
I will have to order that CAP Jelly Candy next time I buy some flavorings. I've only ordered from Wizard Labs and they don't sell it. I have FA Lemon Sicily, which everyone seems to give a thumbs up to so I imagine that will be solid.
Yay, a fellow Texan! Yes, FA Lemon Sicily 0.25% ought to do it.
if you have not tried this recipe you have to absolutely have to!!!! Perfect Coca-Cola in fact if somebody tells them about this they may close down the subreddit because they don't want their secret recipe getting out.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/3szegv/nukacola_classic_variants/?st=irl1vo1e&sh=483858db
This is my first public recipe, and it's my baby, so lemme know what you think! To me, this is if you mixed a cherry limeade and a cola. But it's quite syrupy; not cloying though. You know when you get a Slurpee or a slushie and you sip up all the good shit at the bottom? It's that.
- INW Cactus .25%
- TFA Champagne 2%
- INW Cherry Cola 8-10%
- RF SC Ginger Ale 3%
- FA Lime Tahity (Cold Pressed) 2%
The breakdown:
INW Cactus: needs no introduction. It helps keep the vape saturated, really helps cancel out the dryness that TFA Champagne brings to the recipe.
TFA Champagne: Again, it's a soda recipe. Champagne brings the bubby.
INW Cherry Cola: the star. However, this is an INW -OLD FORMULA-, so make sure you're getting the right one. I'm not sure if it's being reformulated or discontinued yet. Anyway, this is the main proile; it's got the sweet, semi-syrupy feel of a fountain cola with just enough artificial grenadine-ish note to help it along. The percentage is quite high for an INW but that's where it sits nice for me, in this context. Dial it back if you want a less syrupy, more kind of rounded and softer soda.
Ginger Ale; this flavor was a complete dud as a standalone. However, it really brings the body to this recipe. It's neutral enough to be a fantastic soda base for anything you want to bring to it. It fills it all out nicely, and brings a bit more bubbly.
Lime Tahity; again, no intro needed. It's a fucking great flavor.
I know some of these concentrates are off the beaten path, but I'm quite proud of this recipe so I hope somebody out there can enjoy it too.
