what is better, by weight or by volume?
so my new Smoant Charon arrived today, along with my doge rda. first time building, dual coils coming out at 0.27ohm. any suggestions for optimum wattage?
That's all personal preference. Play around with it as much as you like until you get where you like it. You can check steam engine for the heat flux
I knew I could rely on you. Thanks again for all your help, I really do appreciate it. I'm so happy with this charon, couldn't have purchased a better mod for my price range
What would be the best flavoring or combination of flavorings to use for creating a cream soda recipe? From my searches, the cream soda flavorings all seem to be a disappointment. Anyone had any success?
Sorry I have no valuable input here but I do wanna add this: I just bought some juice by a company called "Sticks" it was less than ten bucks for a 60ml at my local B&M... not plugging them at all I don't even know who manufactures them, to be honest. Anyway, I got three 60ml for 20 bucks so I was expecting them to be sub par at best... They're supposed to be like pixy sticks, I assume. Not big on candy flavors myself, but I didn't have the money for anything else and I have a shipment for my first DIY mix in the mail so I figured screw it... It'll hold me over a few days. So I got three different flavors, Strawberry, Rainbow, and Grape.. I tried the strawberry first, was actually really good, then the rainbow.. tasted like skittles, not good, but not unbearable... so today after running out of the first two bottles I decided to try the grape, and I was really suprised, it had the same exact taste and feel of a carbonated grape soda. I don't really know how to explain it, or what they used to make it but it definitely has a carbonated feel to it, one I've never experienced in an e-liquid. So I do know it's possible, as far as how to get there I don't even have the slightest clue. But if anyone does figure it out please let me know as I am very interested too.
Soda is hard to do in general. Keep in mind you will never really achieve the correct level of "carbonation" feel. You may want to keep an eye on the Flavor of the Week thread that just got posted.
Morning vape
does anyone else have trouble vaping in the morning? I can hit it all day long but first thing in the morning I feel like my chest is gonna explode! makes me cough up my internal organs! I have to dial it right back and do the smallest most pathetic inhales ever!
just me?
How long ago did you get off the analogs? I felt the effects for many months after quitting, although not to that extent. If it's been much longer, I'd take a look at the choice of flavorings first of all, but it could be lots of things (temperature, PG, nic, coil gunk). If you're heavy on creams, spices, nuts, chocolate, that could be messing with your throat/lungs. Doesn't sound good anyway and probably a reflection of your vaping the day before, you might want to try vaping unflavored at a lower power setting for a day, just to see.
Hey guys Im new in diy ejuice and im doing a strawberries and cream I did start with the Fizzmustard mustard milk and I didnt like that much and just made mine which is
TFA Marshmallow at 2%
TFA Graham cracker clear at 1.5%
TFA Strawberry ripe at 2%
TFA Strawberry at 4%
TFA Vanilla bean ice cream at 5%
What im facing here is the recipe is not sweet I dont mind to put a little sweetner but the strawberries here is so powerful and maybe the cream base isnt that powerful
Any advices guys?
Do you have TFA Bavarian Cream? That is a pretty sweet cream flavor that works great for S&C type profiles. I would replace Graham Cracker Clear with Bavarian cream if you have it.
Yeah i have it What percentage do u recommend if i replaced it with the graham cracker
GOD MILK is a good S&C recipe to try out if you have all the flavors.
Hi everyone, I am literally a DIY virgin, I have some supplies, and I want to make my first juice for my son & me. After looking up some recipes for peach gummies, I see a lot of recipes that call for sweetener and extra flavorings of specific brands. I have only a peach concentrate from central vapors on hand. Do I really need sweeteners? Isn't the pg/vg already sweet? I thought DIY was going to be easy, but apparently many recipes are very nuanced. Any help/advice is appreciated!!
EDIT: I think I am woefully unprepared to begin making juice. Now I see that I should buy a nicotine test kit to proof the nico I bought?? Gahhhh!
I don't know anything about the peach concentrate from central vapors, but most of the peach concentrates pretty much taste like peach rings candy without much help from other flavors. Try a small batch of it by itself first, see what you think.
Yes, VG is sweet. You might find you don't need any sweeteners.
I always put the nic in the bottle first. I measure by weight so I know it is correct so I just skip proofing it.
Since it's my first go, I'm thinking small batch first. Ever do small batches in experimenting?
Not new, just wondering if nude nicotine is always slow as fuck? I placed an order for 50mL of Smooth and 50mL of Signature nic salts on the 10th...They printed my shipping label on the 17th and still haven't dropped my package off. Carolina Extracts comes in 3 business days like clockwork. I've been without nicotine for nearly 6 days now.
I know you aren't new, but this isn't a serious post is it?
I didn't want to create an entire thread for it. I've seen some people, including you, say they got their stuff in 3-4 days, but most seem to say right at a week. I'm sitting on 10 days and USPS still doesn't even have my shipment yet. I always order my nic when I'm working on my last 30mL of nicotine since I don't have much room in my freezer to store it and don't really need more than 100-120mL at a time anyway. But 10+ days seems a little absurd and I just wanna be sure I made the right choice for my nic salt vendor going forward.
Hello
Just mixed another batch of a liquid I normally make. It's usually clear when it's just mixed but this time the liquid is very foggy and cloudy.
I looked in the bottle and there appears to be a tiny piece of foil or something similar sitting at the bottom of the bottle. I'm assuming this is what has made the liquid go cloudy as the other 6 batches were all crystal clear.
Should I throw it out? Or can I take the foil out of the bottle and vape it?
If you aren't sure then it's probably best just to dump it. That being said, it's probably fine. Juice is cheap tho, so best not to risk it if you have any doubts.

I love FLV mango, but I want to love it HARD. See, as delicious as it is, the dryness is too too real. Any tips for getting this flavor slippery in recipes where cactus and dragonfruit aren't ideal?
Thanks!
Hello fellow DIY'ers!
What would make juice feel / taste "dry"? Hard to explain but I mixed up a batch of one-shot Bronuts by DIYorDie on Friday and it feels like it just sucks all of the moisture out of my mouth and has this very dry feeling to it. The taste in general (chocolate donut) is right on point and isn't lacking at all.
My mix was at 3mg using a PG based 100mg/mL nic. Followed the recommended 10% one-shot concentration mix ratio.
And no, I was not dehydrated. Also tried the mix in several RTAs and a Goon RDA. Had two other people over that night and both also got the pronounced dry feeling.
Thanks!
I just ordered a litre of Avoria 50/50 base liquid (6mg nicotine), now I need to add some flavors to it.
All (most?) tutorials I can find on mixing are about buying all the ingredients (PG, VG, nicotine) separately, but mine's already mixed. The only thing I need to figure out is how much flavor should I add? I'll get a few 30ml glass bottles for that.
I'm currently looking at TPA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, I like vanilla. It's sold in 15ml bottles.
You can probably get away with just putting in 0mg max vg(alternatively 0mg 100% pg if your calc doesn't have a max vg setting) in whatever calculator you are using and mix from there.
So say you have a recipe on ELR that you like. Click the wrench, click adapt, hit 30ml(or whatever amount you want to mix), and then hit 0 for nic and max vg. That way it will tell you the right flavor % for that batch and the correct amount of your base to add(labeled in the calc as amount of vg)
Just remember that the base is getting diluted with flavors so it isn't going to be 3mg and a 20% flavoring mix will have a different nicotine concentration than a 15% flavoring mix.
some help crafting a light citrus juice?
I'm trying to put together a light summer time citrus juice. I have 4% CAP grapefruit; 4% CAP Juicy Orange and thinking about adding .5% TAP Sour and perhaps some koolada. it's a little over the top citrusy. any ideas on what I might want to add to sweeten it up a bit and make it a bit lighter? would a cream (say bavarian) or something like that work? any input is appreciated.
Sweet cream or vanilla swirl are two I sometimes throw in with fruits around 1% usually
Probably Leave out the sour. Maybe post your Flavor inventory in the what can I make with these Flavors thread also (without knowing what you have it might be hard to make suggestions)
thanks. how do I post my flavor inventory? I have an account over at ELR and I have set my flavor stash to public. I'm not a master mixer or anything but i do have all the usual suspects - all the creams, custards, vanillas, strawberries etc. 153 flavors in all.
flv pink guava 2%
thanks. my flavor stash for fruits is not that extensive (I mix custards and dessert more than anything else). I don't have FLV pink guava but I do have CAP sweet guava which should be a reasonable sub. I somehow ended up with 5 or so different coconuts - I wonder if one of those could work to add a little creaminess?
Hey guys I found a recipe I really like & love to vape, but for some reason no matter what my wattage is I still get some juice in my mouth (not over-dripping either) . I'm wondering if it has to do with the juice? Its 10% juicy peach 5% raspberry and 5% sweetener. I love the juice but it's driving me nuts
Well that doesn't have anything to do with the juice, but your percentages are way, way too high. A couple things; when you list a recipe, list it in a bulleted list so it's easy to read. You do that by typing an asterisk followed by a space and whatever comes next. After each line make sure you hit enter twice. Also make sure you always list what flavor brands they are. I'm going to assume in this case it's all TFA.
I don't know where you got those percentages but you'll want to bring those down to 5, 3, and 1. That much sweetener is definitely going to be muting your mix.
What is your VG/PG ratio?
Sorry, my first post here...But yes all flavors are TFA. My ratio is 30% PG, 70% VG. But thanks, I'll bump the percentages down next time
Okay so I'm a first-time mixer, I'm just mixing to avoid the crazy high prices in California. I'm planning on mixing for two good friends and myself and we all go through roughly a 60ml per day... My first shipment is coming in any second now via UPS... I'm going to mix up two test batches of 15ml of the "UNICORN MILK 'LEAK'" recipe... because this flavor matches all our preferred profiles (we all vape strawberry shortcake daily, and also a blueberry cheesecake). In return for making them their juice, they agree to buy some of the supplies when needed. Even if they don't I'm still going to make them their juice so they don't have to pay 18 bucks for 60ml... Anyways I have the recipe for unicorn milk adapted but I was wondering if I could use blueberry jam by Capella in place of strawberry or if I should switch up the percentages of them? Is blueberry jam as strong as sweet strawberry or sweeter? Should I lower or raise the percentages? Bonus question: can anyone point me to a good watermelon lemon(lime)ade recipe that's simple for a beginner DIYer? Thanks in advance.
I have no experience with Blueberry Jam, seems you'll just have to try it out. Strawberry tends to stand out better than blueberry though, so it may need some support. Are you asking because you happen to have it? Otherwise I would rather suggest TFA Blueberry Wild or FW Blueberry, with a bit of FA Bilberry to give it some bite.
As for the recipe request, browse this list and see if anything sounds interesting.
How long do flavors tend to last if kept sealed in a cool dark place? I just picked up the free RF SC ones and won't have time to experiment for awhile.
How do I go about learning what flavors to mix together and what %'s to use?
Trial and error would take many lifetimes with all the possible combinations. How does one go about understanding this stuff without having to mix and taste it?
The Flavor Bible book is a great resource for determining flavor pairings. You can easily find a free PDF of the book by googling/searching the sub. Other than that, trial and error. I know you don't want to hear that but the only way to get to know your flavors is to use them.
this book is awesome, thanks.
i actually don't mind trial and error i just figured that was an impossible way to do it given all the options.
Single flavor testing can help cut back on the time. So you can get a ballpark range for every flavor. I also find the flavor reviews here very handy since they will basically tell you to use around X% single flavor, Y% as an accent, Z% for the base in a mix. But even with all that, you'll probably need a couple different iterations of a recipe to tweak it all how you want it.
Hey there fellow vapers!
Got into mixing my own juice like half a year ago, now I'm starting to use more than just one flavor. Can you help me to come up with a nice recipe? I searched here a few times and didn't find something I could recreate. All my flavors are from capella, which are: Banana Split, Golden Pineapple ,Grapefruit, Hibiscus, Honeydew Melon, Lemon Lime, New York Cheesecake, Orange Creamsicle, Pomegranate, Super Sweet, Vanilla Custard, double Watermelon.
I hope I'm not violating any rules posting this here, if so please let me know and help me to find the right place for my question.
I just ordered my second batch of flavorings and want to make a certain recipe, the only problem is it requires VBIC and i'm a pepper taster. I ordered VBIC Capella instead, can i substitute for this instead of the tpa version in the same amount or does an adjustment need to be made? The recipe i'm making is MY DUDE (My Man Remix) by [ENYAWREKLAW] you can find on the eliquid recipes site.
You can sub it 1:1 but it's not going to be the same. u/ID10-T, what's your recent solution? I believe it will involve buying more/different flavors though.
Slightly higher % of LB Vanilla Ice Cream (slightly higher than the % of TFA VBIC used) + 0.5%ish HS Vanilla Ice Cream. Same as TFA? Nah. Missing that sharp vanilla beanness that I think is what pepper tasters are tasting as pepper. But better than just subbing in CAP or FW for the TFA VBIC at the same %? You betcha.
Hello, ive been vaping on and off for about 2 years now and with this new law in Europe alot of my favorite vapestores dont carry the cheap and delicious ejuice it used to like 120ml for 15$ etc, only thing i can get now is literally too expensive, ive gone through 60ML's in 2 days and i cant spend 20$ for 60ml of eJuice every 2 days, its too much so i decided to start mixing myself. Also i dont really want to stack flavorings like 15 different flavorings so i can mix all the time, i usually just get flavoring that contains it all for example like a flavoring that is donuts with blueberries or strawberrys with blueberries and mint so like 3 different flavors in one flavoring, so far ive mixed my ejuice 4 times and it has never worked out, flavor is always muted even tho i use the amount of flavoring that is recommended, some flavorings 10-15% and some others 3-6%, i usually start with lower and work my way up with the flavoring because i dont want to overflavor causing it to mute the flavors but its never as good as the ejuice i would buy from the store that are made ready like cosmic fog or one hit wonder, why is that? i let my juice steep and everything, even breath and hot water steeping but it never comes out flavorful, the flavor is like i was just vaping pure vg mixed with pg aka no flavoring at all, the last flavoring juice i mixed even had mint in it but i can't feel any mint at all, when i smell the DIY ejuice it does smell good but vaping it i cant taste anything? and if i vape for example dinner lady lemon tart its insane how good that is compared to mine, i dont understand what im doing wrong, are the 3 in one flavorings that bad? i really doubt it because if i smell the flavorings they smell amazing and exactly like i would want my ejuice to taste like but the flavor just dissapears when i mix it up
Well, with premixes you're at the mercy of whoever made it and the quality will vary greatly. Just because it smells good doesn't mean it will translate well into being vaped. Even flavor combos by reputable brands such as Capella tend to be very bland. If you choose to go this route, you will probably just have to get a few different brands of one shots and find something that works through trial and error.
Commercial juices are generally loaded with sweetener, which tricks your mind into thinking they're great. Most of them really aren't. If you must have this sweetness, you could add some sucralose to your mixes.
As for the flavor seeming muted, this could be the combination of lacking the sweetener and using a bland one shot (you never mention what you're mixing), but something like mint should always come through. You could try increasing the amount of PG in the mixes, try 50/50 just to see. When you steep, put the cap on tight and store it someplace cool and dark, don't breathe or heat.
Yeah i can tell when sucralose is added but with the commercial juices i can easily tell all the flavors when im vaping it, every flavor comes through like its supposed to but currently my mixed juice i can't even tell what flavors i can smell, its just overall sweet flavor but no specific lemon or whatever berry taste like other juices have.
but thanks for response, ill try
Has anyone had problems with their FLV Mango 15ml? I recently bought a 15ml of FLV Mango (original packaging), after my first mix I go to put on the cap and it just screws itself apart. I haven't anything like this happen with any other caps so I thought it must be a defect. I ordered this from Bull City Flavors who did a fine job on their part. *EDIT: Pictures.
Yes, it's not just mango. I own their entire line and I would say 5-8% of them have done this. Just put it back together and push down on the top. From now on you have to squeeze the bottle on the sides when you want to screw the cap on or off. Not a huge deal as it still seals the liquid in the bottle.
Ok, here goes:
I bought some 6mg nicotine bases, and an array of flavours. I want to try making something that resembles tobacco and peaty whiskey. I ordered different tobacco flavours, a whisky flavour, an oak wood flavour, and black honey. I also got some bottles and syringes to be able to work accurately.
Couple of questions:
- What are pros and cons between buying bases with nicotine in and buying high concentration nicotine and 'clean' bases?
- Do I just throw stuff together in a bottle and let it sit for a while? How do I know how long to let it steep?
- I'm used to high PG liquids, most recipes I find online are high in VG though. Any specific adjustments I should make if I would want to convert one of those to higher PG? I think I read that you need less flavour% in high PG juice somewhere?
Edit: This is a recipe I found and adapted to what I bought, and so would like to try: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/1607840/honey+whiskey+oak
Any opinions or advice on it? I put it at 0mg nic because my bases contain nicotine and the calculator didn't support that.
Having a base like that isn't too bad since it makes it pretty quick and easy. Add flavors and then just squirt that in and you're good to go. I make a Base like that for all my little test bottles because it's a pain to do eight 10 ml bottles all at the same time when you're adding nic, pg, and VG separately. I made mine so that when I add 5% flavoring, everything comes out to 60/40 VG/pg and 3 mg nic. So if I'm doing a 2% single flavor test, it'll be a little off, but nothing too crazy. What VG/pg is your base? I would figure out what your end result will be when flavors are added, and adjust the calculator accordingly, leaving the nic in. Then it gives you the total weight for base, and you just add that much.
For larger batches I like to use nic, pg, VG separately. That way I can get precisely what I'm aiming for. There's not much control when it's all already mixed. Good enough for testing, but I like the final product to be precise. But it's really all up to you and what you're comfortable with.
As for that recipe... if it ends up tasting like black licorice with caramel vanilla whiskey, don't give up on tobaccos. Hit me up for some suggestions. TFA isn't really the best route. But if you like it then just ignore me.
I bought both 100% PG and 100% VG with 6 mg of nicotine, so that I would be able to play with different mixes. I realise that I will get a final result lower than 6mg because of the added flavours, but I can live with that.
I also got the turkish tobacco and the western blend of TFA. Any opinions on those? Maybe better to swap in one of those instead of the RY4 double?
In that case I would probably just do it just how you have it. The difference in weight will be pretty negligible.
The only TFA Tobacco I've found to be workable is the Western. For a while I didn't like it, but something in my taste buds must have changed because I can tolerate it now. There's obviously quite a few people that like the TFA tobaccos since there's a lot of recipes that use them, but they were the first ones that I tried when I got in to diy, and they almost made me give up. They were either too floral or just didn't taste anything like tobacco. But my taste buds can be stupid sometimes, so you might just love it! I'd just give it a go with what you've got there and see what you end up with. It'd be a good idea to single flavor test everything that is in there. That way if you get something that seems off, you can determine the culprit and either adjust your percentages or sub it for something else.

Buying nicotine base in a higher concentration and separate PG and VG will save you a lot of money. It also allows you to control your PG/VG ratio. With a premixed base, you can't do that. There are no pros in buying a premixed base in my opinion. You could say it saves you time, but if you end up mixing by weight, you aren't saving a great amount of time.
-
You should be measuring what you are putting in. Different flavors have different percentages that they are useful at. Along with that, different flavors require different "steeping" or sitting times. A cool, dark closet or drawer is best for that. No exposure to heat or sunlight. Mixes also need to be shaken for several minutes.
-
This is sometimes going to depend on flavors used. You could leave it as is and see how the recipes turn out. I don't have experience in mixing tobaccos recipes, but I can tell you they can take close to a month to be ready. Especially since you have that RY4 in there.
My reasoning was that I could control the PG/VG ratio, because I bought both 100% VG and 100% PG with 6 mg bases. Ending up a little lower than 6mg because of the flavours added is fine by me.
A month sounds like a long time. I'll be curious way sooner about how it turned out :p I'll probably check weekly how it's progressing. Would a different tobacco flavour work better in that recipe, you think? I also have TFA's turkish tobacco and the western blend.
Can someone recommend some fruity TPA or FlavourArt concentrates that don't need a long steeping time ?
I am thinking about Strawberry Ripe TPA. I use 70/30 VG/PG 6 mg/ml nic. pink mule base btw.
Strawberry Ripe is not ideal to use on its own. You probably won't taste much out of that. Are you just looking to make single flavors?
In Charles Nobles's PB Cereal recipe, here: https://charlienoble.com/blogs/thoughts-from-charlie/pb-cereal-its-time-to-release-the-recipe
Am I correct in assuming that 1d/10ml means one drop every 10ml of juice one intends to mix?
http://www.realflavors.com/shop/ice-cream-sandwich-super-concentrate/
Can someone please review this? Just found out about this after placing my order.
It literally just came out. RF SC flavors are pretty hit and miss.
Yeah, I jumped on their free promo. I should've checked their new releases. Not too long ago, I posted in weekly chat thread about creating Ice Cream Sandwich recipe, it's still work in progress. My next cart is almost ready so I might as well give this a shot. Cheers :). If you can't tell by now, I am on a hunt for ice cream sandwich flavor :D
Just wondering how many flavors do you guys usually have in your stash at once? Right now I have around 13 and I feel that's good to start with.
Also wondering how many different juices you guys have at a time since some take quite a while to steep.
How do I make fruits brighter or more crisp/pop? I think someone suggested tpa dragonfruit. And there was another lemon one I think. I dont want to impart any flavor really just want a concentrate to make my cap raspberry stand out a lottle more tangy against a hefty cheesecake base. Help greatly appreciated...
What are you mixing that is showing to be lack luster?
I would like an additive to expirament with in future mixes. But specifically its this one where the raspberry is just a little too flat. The cheesecake tastes so real i dont want to change it and im not really interested in another raspberry concentrate. Would u suggest the dragonfruit or lemon here?
Is fa polar blast similar to koolada or is it minty? And how does arctic winter taste ? Looking for a koolada substitute
Polar Blast is koolada and methyl lactate together. IMO WS 23 is the a much better cooling agent than koolada and FA Polar Blast.
It feels my less gritty than Koolada and mutes much less.
Is there an essential tobacco flavor I should check out? I already have:
FA Perique Black
FA Virginia
FW American
FW Black Fire
FW Desert Ship
FLV Connecticut Shade
FLV Red Burley
FLV Turkish
INW Gold Ducat
(I also already have FA Oak Wood & TPA Acetyl Pyrazine)
INW Black for Pipe is my favorite. A tobacco absolute might also be a nice thing to have on hand. INW Garuda is almost like tea to me, INW Cuban Cigar is dry and goes well with Black for Pipe, and INW Virginia is kind of grassy.
Try extracting your own from some good quality pipe tobacco. Much more authentic tasting.
thanks, sounds interesting, I'll read up on extraction.
Easy, but takes some time.
Get a tobacco. Aromatics didn't really work for me (Bourbon pipe tobacco had no bourbon taste). I've had great results with Dunhill Early Morning and Nightcap.
Let it dry and put it in a Mason jar and cover it with PG
Let it sit for a month or two
OR
Put it in a crock pot with water on warm. Leave it overnight, take it out to cool for the rest of the day. Repeat this for a couple days.
Get an Aeropress and use the regular coffee filter for the first pass
Get some 2 or 2.5 micron filter papers and filter it again. This one will take a while. You don't want to force the plunger down. It sometimes takes me a whole day to filter it.
Then it's done! I do single flavor on those Dunhill at 8%. I just ordered some more tobacco today to get some more going.
So my webshop was out of INW shisha strawberry so i decided to pick up the normal strawberry. Is it kind of substituable? Should i use a little bit higher percentage?
Good luck with that. INW Strawberry is a floral fuckfest. I hate that flavor.
Hello everyone,
I am really new to this and need some help. I have my mod (Alien SMOK) and a 30ml bottle of e-juice that is about to run out. In my country there are no sellers of e-juice and buying it online is not an option (custom taxes + local regulations = pita). Also, here we don't have stores that sell all the ingredients easily. It's not as easy as going to the local drugstore.
So after watching tons of videos and reading a lot, I am almost ready to make my own e-juice. I have recipes, the VG and the PG (nicotine free) but I still need to buy the flavors. From the local distributors what I know about the flavors is this:
1- They are edible 2- They can be used in cakes (so heat = ok) 3- They have no sugar 4- They have no PG 5- They have no coloring 6- They have alcohol as dilutant (the edible kind)
So the question is if this would work, if it would be safe and if so, which considerations I should have with the recipes.
Thank you very much!
We need more info on the flavors. You can't go into a grocery store and buy random flavors. Typically those are extracts and you cannot use those to make juice.
There isn't much info since there aren't stores for this here. The guy that sells this stuff sent me that info so I would assume 100% that this stuff is for cooking... What can I do? Any ideas? That's the only thing left to prepare juice
Hello All, New to Reddit but have been mixing for a while. I am looking for suggestions on making my yogurt vapes more tangy. I am currently using TPA Greek Yogurt at 8%. Any help is greatly appreciated.
My go-to yogurt base:
-
FW Yogurt 4.0%
-
CAP Creamy Yogurt 1.0%
-
FA Madagascar (Vanilla Classic) 1.0%
Give that two weeks
I've been DIYing for 2 months now and I still haven't made any decent juice. Everything I've made has been from an existing recipe, all of which are predominantly fruit flavours. I find that I get very little flavour, or the flavour is muted and has little taste/mouth feel. It's not a case of vaper's tongue because store bought juice tastes fine (it tastes even better after vaping my DIY stuff), it just has a much more upfront, cleaner flavour.
I've tried batches without nicotine to rule that out, and also purchased PG and VG from different vendors to rule those out (though I've tasted the VG and they both taste the same, like a sharp but sweet thick syrup).
When I make up a batch I shake all of my ingredients prior to adding them. Once it's made I give it a good shake and put it away to steep, shaking daily. Steeping doesn't seem to make any difference (I've had some juice where the flavour has disappeared completely after steeping for several weeks).
One of the better recipes is one I found on here (Looma - https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/3f4xmc/lets_make_looma_a_simple_recipe_that_well_dive/), but it still doesn't seem to have a full flavour or any mouth feel. It's hard to describe but it's almost as if the flavour is in the background, and isn't really coming through.
I mix everything (by weight) at 70VG/30PG, I make all of my 5ml test bottles with 0 nic, if I like a recipe I'll mix up 50ml @ 3% nic.
I know taste is subjective but I'm convinced there's something wrong here, in my 3 years of vaping store bought juice I've never had anything taste as dull and flavourless as the stuff I'm making.
Does anybody have any idea where I'm going wrong?
Wow, I find Looma to be powerfully, intensely, almost too-muchly flavored.
Do any of the recipes you've tried have CAP Super Sweet or TFA Sweetener as an ingredient?
This is why I think I'm going wrong somewhere, all of the recipes I've made where people have commented that they're very strong I've found to be weak, yet my store bough juices are way more potent, I can actually taste them in my mouth.
A few of them do, I've tried with and without (I'd read that CAP Super Sweet can actually mute flavours, and also gunk up coils really quicky), but it seems to make no difference :|
Have you tried single flavor testing some of your flavors? Might be worth a try to see if your concentrates are ok.
I've only tried FA Fuji as a standalone (mixed at 4%), and I definitely get a hint of apple but without actually being able to taste it (it's kind of dull/muted/dry). It's definitely one of my favourite flavours though.
Hello, so i am trying to get some scales to start mixing my own juice and had a question about the max weight of scales - does the max weight apply to the total weight on the scale or just the weight added after taring? Had a look through the side bar etc but couldn't find this specific bit of information that is quite important for anyone looking to use flavour shots that require mixing 500+ml of eliquid at a time
You shouldn't have to mix 500 mls at a time.
Well I am planning on using flavour boss boss shots at first, and these come in 500ml and 1L bottles. I'd rather just mix up 500ml at a time rather than doing 250ml twice
If I have 1 bottle of 10 ml concentrate and it says I should mix it 10%+, does that mean I should dilute it with just 90 ml of nicotine base (100 ml = 10 %) and no more than that ? it's confusing me because I want to know how much of DIY liquid can I get from that 1 bottle...
The mixing percentages are generally suggestions- you can go higher or lower (I kinda think a lot of the suggested percentages skew a bit high). Your flavor percentage is the total percentage of flavor in your final mix. For example, if you mixed a 30 mL batch using your concentrate at 10%, you would have 3 mL total of flavoring. The remaining 27 mL is your VG, PG, and nicotine. So, if you're looking to mix the entire 10 mL bottle of concentrate, your entire mix would need to be 100 mL to have 10% flavoring.
There's quite a few online mixing calculators you can plug your desired numbers into.
I bought 100mg/mL nic to mix into bottles with 0% juice or to boost the strength of 3mg and 6mg bottles to 9 or 12... depending on what works best.
Is it generally correct to divide 1mL of the 100mg/mL by the size of the bottle? Eg, 1mL of 100mg/mL into a 0mg nic 30mL juice bottle means one mL of 100mg nic is at approx 3mg strength?
If you have 100mg/mL nic, then 1 mL contains 100 mg of nic. 1 mL of this in a 30 mL mix is 3.3 mg/mL (100 mg divided by 30 mL), so your math is correct. Always divide total mg by the total volume to get your strength.
Edit: And if your adding nicotine to juice that already contains some, don't forget to account for the existing mg. For example, if you are adding to a 30 mL bottle of 6 mg/mL juice, you already have 180 mg of nicotine present.
So i started mixing and i started off putting %1.5 of flavorings in a 30ml bottle. Its been a couple od days and the flavor is starting to disappear, so my question is whats the ususl amount of flavoring you should put in your ejuice.
It differs greatly between flavors and flavor brands. What flavors have you been using?
Flavor art, capella, tpa
Hi everyone, I have a question that I fear has no real solution. I have been enjoying mostly light and floral vapes which tastes awesome on my Goon 1.5 with .16 ohm coils, but when I put the same mix into my Smok baby beast, with 6 or 8 coils, I feel that its just so muted and faint. I played with airflow, and upping the wattage, but its disheartening. It just isn't good. great recipes mixed just suck on the baby beast. Now, commercial juices are the same way but the degradation is much less severe, and I think that the baby beast usually performs better than say, my Griffin or my Cleito 120. Is there anyway I can "turn up the volume" so I can taste it? Should I just start upping the concentration percentages? What is the best way I should start going about tweaking the recipe?
I don't really know anything about the premade coil tanks, but are there other coils that it takes that doesn't ruin the flavor for you? If it's a fat tittie$ chuckin coil then it might be that you're getting so much flavor that your tongue isn't keeping up. Before adding more flavor, I'd try cutting back. Or using something geared more towards flavor than clouds.
Thanks for taking to time to reply!
I believe the Baby comes in dual, quad, sex, and octo-coils. Would a dual coil setup be better for flavor? I thought with the smaller chamber and overall size it would have better flavor than the full size beast..... I guess that's what I get for assuming too much.
Can you recommend some good flavor chasing rdas and tanks?
Like I said, I don't really know much about them, but I always got the vibe that they were geared towards Cloud chasing. I personally get the best flavor off of some simple dual coils. I'm kind of boring when it comes to builds and stuff. 8 wraps of 26g kanthal has done the trick for me for 2.5 years.
My personal favorite for a tank is the Conqueror Mini. I actually just ordered a second one this morning because after searching for a while I just decided that I'd go with what I know I like.
A lot of people like the O-Atty and Hadaly and single coil things like that, but I could never get in to single coil. I'm probably not the best person to ask. I've been using a Mutation X v2 since January 2015 haha.
Have you considered getting a RTA to solve this? Best flavor for a tank hands down.
Really going from a RDA to premade coils is going to be a light and day difference. No way to really get around that.
Yes, I'd agree with you, it is a night and day difference in taste, between the Goon 1.5 and the Baby Beast. But, with commercial juices the difference isn't as significant between them. At this point, it looks as tho I'm going to have to over flavor and over sweeten in order to fine recipes for the specific platform. I'd really like to buy more hardware but its not in my humble budget. T_T
Without knowing the recipe, it's hard to say. Those are cloud tanks though. Not known for their flavor
Thanks for the quick replies guys!
Even tho I know the Goon 1.5 isn't really designed for flavor chasing I have really found that when I use the max air flow restriction, the top, body and finish is so much better tasting, than any of my other rdas. ( I only have a couple) I have a Vandy Vapes Govad, Coilart Dpro, and a couple old Velocity and Air Force One.
The One recipe that I'm in love with is Longing by Id10_t. It really is awesome, on the Goon 1.5, but so lacking on my Baby.
My 2 cents - I use the Q4 for the best flavor in my cloud beast. Also, I have found that my KYLIN RTA has the closest flavor production to a dripper.
Thanks for that suggestion. The X4 coils on the Baby beast are really much much better than the v6 and v8 coils. Have you tried the dual coil offerings? Is there even a dual coil setup?
So after a bit of research and a bit of time. I've purchased a Psyclone Hadaly and its flavor production is amazing, better than the Coilart Dpro, Goon 1.5 and other RDAs that I own. I'll eventually probably buy a squonker, but I'm gonna have to do a little research on those. If anyone has a good suggestion for me, I'd really appreciate it. I've also discovered that a Smok Baby Beast X4 coils are much better at flavor production than the v6 and v8 options. I can taste individual components in each mix now. The flavor still isn't defined like on a Hadaly, but its acceptable for me now. So save your v6 and v8s for those cloud chucking competitions. I am ordering the x2 coils to try out soon, if anyone's interested in a report on those let me know!
So this might be a dumb question.. I ordered a 120ml bottle of 12mg nicotine instead of 18mg. How can I figure out how much more to add to my juice to get the strength of 18mg nic?
You can't make the end concentration of nicotine higher than the base concentration.
It can't be higher than 6mg/ml, with your base, to at least make a 50/50 mix.
Got an order from gremlin today and they threw in a bottle of this stuff called jag juice it's a apple pomegranate was just seeing if anyone has any experience with using it I tasted a drop of it and was pretty interesting
They are, pretty aggressively, trying to get rid of their DIY Flavor Shack inventory. I was going to buy that flavor but I couldn't find a single thing on it so I went with Holy Grail RY4. I didn't want to waste my money on something that could suck.
You're honestly probably just going to have to mess with it yourself. I would check out what things go well with apple and pomegranate and throw Jag Juice into it.
I played around with it used jag juice at about 4% then CAP double watermelon @ 5% came out very tasty might actually order more think I threw a little bit of sweetener in but wasn't really necessary I'd recommend it worth a try anyway the apple isn't the standout at all it's a good blend
Yeah tried making this
Jag juice 5% Double watermelon 4% Sweet cream 2% Super sweet .25%
Zero expectations gonna try it tomorrow
Make sure you hit the reply when replying. You definitely could have left the Super Sweet out. Also probably the Sweet Cream. That's an interesting combo for Watermelon, Apple and pomegranate. But please report back in 3-4 days.
Please advise me on my recipe. This is my plan to make a nice fluffy tasting Lemon Meringue Pie.
- CAP Lemon Meringue - 8%
- CAP Vanilla Custard V1 - 3%
- TFA Whipped Cream - 2%
- TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust or Graham Cracker (clear) - 2%
Looks a lot like this. You may find that the lemon is weak and/or waning over time.
Would the Vanilla Custard overpower the Lemon Meringue Pie?
Not really, but the more you add on top of it the less prominent it will be. Depends what parts you want to emphasize. There are a couple of recipes on ATF that you can use as a reference depending on which way you want to lean.
What do u guys think about the flavorings that have all in one? for example a flavoring that is lemon cake already, would it be any good as a standalone used 3-6% ( thats what they said i should use) the flavoring i want to try is described as: is fresh baked lemon cake with sweet topping but im not sure if it would be any good as a standalone
maybe if i added 2 flavorings like donut+ fresh baked lemon cake flavoring together? how would it be?
i dont want to stack up alot of flavors but i still want to make a good ejuice.
You have a brand for these said flavorings?
No one knows what you're talking about without that info.
the brand is copy cat but i excpect no1 to know their flavorings because its like German company or something.
Yesterday I made a 100 ml DIY tobacco mix with 10 ml of concetrate and 90 ml of 70 vg/30 pg 6mg nicotine base, it's steeping right now in my drawer.
-My question is, if I want to further dilute my mix with base (if, for example, the taste is too strong), should I do it now while the mix is "young" or after 3 weeks when the mix is steeped (matured) ?
I mean, is it okay to add base to the mix after it's steeped ?
Not really a new mixers question but i didn't want to clutter the main page with a question i know has been asked a few times.
Flavor inventory tracking. I use ATF for my recipes and i like i can add my inventory with price and i get the cost of a recipe, but as my inventory has grown i need something that can help me keep a better track of what i have on hand so i know when to re-order. Unless i'm missing something atf doesn't subtract flavor amounts used in a mix from my inventory amount.
So the question is, are there any good calculators out there that will help me keep an accurate and automatically updated stock inventory? Thanks
Edit: Seems like i may have answered my own question, it looks like the "Recipe Calculator" the 3rd one in the resources list will do what i was looking for, once i get it set up correctly.
Did I buy the wrong VG/PG? My ejuice smells and tastes like plastic, vapes OK just tastes off. Like a plastic or chemical, kinda hard to say exactly how it tastes.
I just copied a recommended dessert flavor recipe to the t and steeped it for 5 days (no light, shook vigorously twice daily).
I bought:
I smelled the VG and PG in the bottles they came in and didn't notice any smell at all. All the flavors smell like I'd expect them to.
I'd assume it's just the bottle I mixed it in, but I put some juice I bought in an identical bottle and it tastes/smells fine.
