July 2017 Recipe Thread
submitted about 8 years ago by kirktBring on the Diacetyl, baby

This is the thread to share all of your best individual creations. If you want to share your recipe as its own post, it must have extra content such as development process, variations, etc - but please post it here as well for posterity. We also have weekly threads for new-mixer questions and "help me mix something with these flavors" threads. Please help keep the community "clean" by posting in appropriate threads.

It's best to use the format:
<Flavor> (<Vendor>) @ x%
<Flavor> (<Vendor>) @ x%
<Flavor> (<Vendor>) @ x%
<Flavor> (<Vendor>) y drops per z ml
(note - if you are having trouble with spacing, hit the space bar twice before you hit return and your comment will begin a new line without a paragraph break).

Don't forget to review the many recipes from the June thread. Your next ADV may have already been posted there. Congrats to /u/MrBurgundy314 for having the top-voted recipe last month.

Happy Mixing!

Strawberry Slurp

Mfg | Flv | Pct ---|---|---- INW | Shisha Strawberry | 3% FA | Strawberry (Red Touch) | 2% JF | Sweet Strawberry | 1.5% OSDIY | Blue Raspberry Slush | 2% FA | Polar Blast | 0.25%

Featuring the Holy Trinity of Strawberries. A unique strawberry syrup, a realistic freeze-dried strawberry, and a candy strawberry that puts CAP Sweet Strawberry to shame.

This was a first attempt at recreating a Strawberry Slurpee. Missed the mark, still hits the spot for a sweet, refreshing summer strawberry recipe. Sharing because even though it's what you might call a failed early version, it tasted so good I didn't want to put it down. When you mix up something like that, the profile goal suddenly seems so unimportant.

Lord have mercy! I have all of these.

Give it a try! I might continue working on making it taste and feel more like the Strawberry Slurpee I had planned to create. I think I know what it would take to do that. But, I don't think I would enjoy it as much as I do now if it tasted just like a Slurpee.

by kindgroundabout 8 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

I get more of a waxy strawberry taffy rather than a strawberry slush. One or two of the concentrates are bringing this waxy/gummy note or mixing together to form it but I can't figure it out.

I'm going to let it steep a bit and see what happens.

What flavor is the freeze dried strawberry one?

4 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

FA Strawberry. Very realistic berry otherwise, but no juiciness to it at all. It's a quality that it shares with quite a few FA fruits.

Always a flavor away from making a lot of recipes....I can't believe I haven't picked up JF's Strawberry yet...adding to cart! I'm assuming it has its' own vibe that something like TFA or FW won't hit in your stacked strawberries approach here? Are you getting any significant cooling from .25% polar blast? I have been using Arctic Winter at around .6% in some recipes and when I tried to sub-in Polar Blast I had to crank it up to over 1 % to get any similar cooling effect?

1 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

It's most similar to CAP Sweet Strawberry except I think CAP Sweet Strawberry tastes like strawberry candy with some of the wrapper still stuck to it; no wrapper with JF. (CAP Sweet has a weird chemical note to me that mostly, but not entirely, steeps out). TFA definitely would not be the same. I haven't tried FW Strawberry yet.

I'm apparently more sensitive to WS-3 than most. You'll probably want to crank that up to 1% or higher. And if I were going to finish turning this into a Slurpee, one of the things I'd do is put more Polar Blast in it, for sure.

2 points

by SophisticatedHackabout 8 years ago

Thanks man. Yeah I find that same issue with a lot of their fruits including watermelon-it tastes good but it carries a lot of baggage bordering on "off-notes". I am starting to lean back towards a good menthol over polar blast.

Any subs for OSDIY slush?

3 points

by SophisticatedHackabout 8 years ago

You can build a blue raspberry flavor combining 1 to 1 raspberry and peach. I don't know how that would interact in this recipe but try it stand alone to test the theory if you are so inclined.

2 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

I haven't tried it as sub in this recipe yet, but Liquid Barn's Blue Raspberry might have a similar effect on these strawberries.

I want to try this with hibiscus for that slurpy syrupy goodness. Guess I'll have to make two!

2 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

If I wanted to continue pursuing making this into a Slurpee, a lil Hibiscus and a lot more coolant (preferably WS-23 instead of the Polar Blast) would go a long way. Probably some RF Soda Base as well.

No clue why I got that sudden urge after reading the holly trinity strawberry syrup description, I felt like mixing the 3 strawberries with 1% FA Maple Syrup and 1% INW Grapefruit.

Ingredients are on the table ready to mix. I will update if my sudden urge was a call for disaster

Mixed this up and the strawberry stacking strikes a nice balance and creates a pretty vivid syrupy strawberry. It is certainly good. I think I can see where the waxy and mentos comparisons arise and I personally think it is the Shisha strawberry. While I do love it as a flavor it does have some darker syrupy notes that stand out in a mix. It calls a lot of attention to its unique flavor which I think can be mildly polarizing where some will dig it and some won't as much. It is some real hair splitting and I have nowhere near the skill of the mixer here but I think I would put the JF as the star of the show as it has more of a neutral artificial strawberry flavor. It is going to really come down to how much you love shisha strawberry but the mix is undeniably tasty and perfectly concentrated.

I made a second mix adding .5% cap hibiscus (credit Concrete River) and 1% fw pink champagne (credit apexified) with .8% WS-23 (credit ID10-T and Malaysia) and .5% cap super sweet and it morphs into a pretty 'lovely' slush type vape. It is certainly going to be gone by days end.

Thank you ID10-T for affording idiots like me the opportunity to share in these works.

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

That second mix sounds excellent! And you're right, it might be even better with the JF Sweet and INW Shisha strawberry %'s swapped.

Cherry Belonging

Mfg | Flv | % ---|---|---- TFA | Cherry Blossom | 4 LB | Vanilla Ice Cream | 5.5 LB | Pink Lemonade | 1.5 FLV | Cream | 1

It's often said that possession is nine-tenths of the law, but when it comes to... certain things, I still subscribe to the playground rule of ownership: "I licked it, it's mine." This abstract recipe, made of only ingredients found in All The Flavors' June 2017 Awesome Box, was inspired by that philosophy.

Cherry Blossom is an ingredient you generally want to use as an accent at lower than 4%, as it can even be the focal point of a recipe as low as 2%, but here the higher % is needed to make it the star and to make its cherry flavor stand out in the mix. The rich LB Vanilla Ice Cream pulls its floral top notes way down but doesn't extinguish them entirely, which is good, they keep things interesting.. The pink part of LB's Pink Lemonade, which is a delightful powdered-mix pink lemonade flavor on its own, further enhances the red fruity flavor of Cherry Blossom. With a little help from FLV Cream, the lemonade combines with that cherry flavor for something oddly somewhat reminiscent of a Sonic Drive-In "Cherry Limeade CreamSlush," which is just their cherry limeade blended with ice and soft-serve ice cream.

order a dr pepper (or whatever soda) w/ extra dr pepper (or whatever soda) from sonic.

it fucks em up sometimes, theyll tell me they cant do it (no one orders it prolly) and i have to walk em through the process like:

  • hit the shot button for dr pepper
  • add sm-med shot of syrup into ice
  • dispense more dr pepper into it

sooo good

I have only one cherry flavor - FA. would that be a reasonable enough sub to get the jist of this mix? would also have to sub the FLV cream - I have at least 1/2 doz creams to choose from. Do have the LB flavors. thanks.

1 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

No, that's a completely different flavor. But if you can't tell, I've been really into mixing citrus and vanilla cream together lately. Just a little phase I guess. But LB VIC and and a little Pink Lemonade are great together!

You could always try something similar with a different fruity top note instead of cherry. And TFA Whipped Cream is a good sub for FLV Cream but it's better with good steep on it.

great - thanks. I do have TPA whipped cream as well as FA Fresh Cream. Will try with the TPA first. I'm a mostly custard/dessert sort of guy but branching out to fruits. what fruit might also work here? last any pure fruit mixes you think I should try? I recently mixed a bunch of tiger blood type mixes which were quite good as well as a strawberry/kiwi/watermelon mix that was fantastic.

A Good Book

  • Almond FA 0.5%
  • Connecticut Shade FLV 0.5%
  • Fig Fresh FA 0.5%
  • Holy Vanilla DIYFS 1.5%
  • Milk Chocolate JF 0.6%
  • Oak Wood FA 0.4%
  • Red Burley FLV 2%
  • Tatanka Tobacco FLV 1%
  • Up (coffee) FA 0.5%

This flavor is inspired by one of the most glorious things in the existence of aromas, in my opinion . . . old books. What I’m not trying to do: create a vape that tastes like an old book. What I’m trying to do: create a flavor based on the findings of what aromas make up the smell of old books. Scientists have studied the volatile organic compounds (VOC) that combine to create the aromas that people associate with old books. This is intended to be a mélange of those aromas that has tobacco as its foundation with supporting notes from the other aromas.

Ha! I'm still working on an ice cream for the Mixers Club (I have roughly 8 days, right?) . . . I think I'm getting close with something. As an aside, my daughter (step-daughter technically) is a smoker despite watching me and her mother struggle to quit . . . she's, also, a bit of a book nerd. She and my wife are on a cruise, and my wife was telling her about this flavor profile. She said she wants to try it when she gets back. I told her I would set her up with whatever she needs (device, coils, juice) if she would just give it a shot. I'm hopeful!

I've been working on a custard RY4 . . . which I'm ham-handedly calling custaRdY4 right now. It's only on day 2 of testing/tasting. Once I get to a computer, I'll share it with you . . . I'm still struggling with mobile. In the early stages, it's a buttery-caramel, vanilla custard with a tobacco backbone . . . pretty dang sweet without any added sweeteners. Definitely a dessert tobacco. The recipe lacks any flavor notes at this point in the process because it is still subject to change/a work in progress.

Posting here for posterity.

I started on this DIY journey trying to make a clone/remix of Vapor in a Bottle's Seduction. It was my former ADV and one of the best fruit profiles I have ever tasted. Those were lofty expectations I know. Now that I have about 300 flavors to choose from I realize just how lofty they were.

The description of Seduction on their website says "Get seduced! Fall in love with a sweet, hard candy lemon, lime, raspberry juice. A truly unique flavor that you won't find anywhere else, consisting of the following flavors: Main: Raspberry, Lemon, Lime. Background: Blueberry, strawberry."

I love citrus and I've been working with this flavor profile since I started DIY which has been roughly 10 months. As a new mixer I definitely had my share of disastrous results taking this rocky clone road. One of those involving a painfully crazy percentage of TFA key lime. Lol I sure as hell [didn't know shit] (https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/5944up/weekly_new_mixers_questions_thread_week_of/d9fsjmm). Sorry about being an annoying noob u/wh1skeyk1ng.

I'm a little more experienced now and I would really never ever recommend taking on cloning as your first challenge in mixing. Find and mix a bunch of well known/regarded recipes and learn from your flavors first. You'll save a ton of frustration.

After a few months of trying, I published an awkward remix recipe. It was really nowhere close, overly complicated and far from done. Shortly thereafter I had a few clues from the creator and some eye opening single flavor tests of Inawera concentrates (specifically lime, lemon and raspberry). I put those in the brain bank for later when I had more experience. I was done pursuing this for the moment and needed to compile and learn flavors.

Today I give you what I feel is a 95% clone. The percentages may not be exactly spot on but it's damn close. To me it's really close and definitely delicious and very much "in your face" like the original. I went with all 6 flavors being Inawera because a lot of the small shops that mix house juice usually have one concentrate supplier. After being given a cactus hint by the creator and tasting the lemon and then the lime in there it seemed that it was the case here too probably. Well that and I wanted to see if I could use all Inawera anyway.

If you're a sensitive taster the percentages may need adjusting a little bit for your palate. Sweetener can also be added but I generally only add 1 drop of Capella Super Sweet per 10ml if any.

[Cajolery - a Vapor in a Bottle Seduction Clone] (http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/1592962/Cajolery+%255BVapor+in+a+Bottle+Seduction+Clone%255D)

  • Blueberry (INAWERA) 0.75%
  • Cactus (INAWERA) 1%
  • Lemon (INAWERA) 1%
  • Lime (INAWERA) 1%
  • Raspberry (Malina Koncentrat) (INAWERA) 1%
  • Strawberry Shisha (INAWERA) 1.25%

INW Lime and Lemon - In my opinion these 2 concentrates are the very best tangy,  candyish versions of these flavors. I'm definitely in love with both of them. INW Lemon is my Frank's Red Hot. The original Seduction is described as a candy and that's what you get here.

INW Cactus - Duh. We need to coax some juiciness out of this citrus candy. Also what fits better with lime than cactus? Aaaaaaannnnnd the guy at Vapor in a Bottle told me so.

INW Raspberry/Strawberry Shisha/Blueberry - These are the berries that are described in the profile. Let's ride the Inawera train all the way then. We know that the Shisha Strawberry is going to turn that flowery Raspberry into something jammy and sweet. The blueberry brings a little bit of je ne sais quoi and is quite sweet itself. Both of these combined bring just enough sweetness to balance the bitterness from the lime and tame that rind note a bit.

TLDR It's citrus and berries. Just mix it. If you like fruits and citrus you'll thank me. Grab your Inawera box and take a journey with me.

So as promised I mixed that now, because my flavors have arrived. Here is the proof I really did it hehe:

http://imgur.com/5vnAqlQ

So I directly made a 60ml on 3mg Nic 20/80.

Vaped on a Pharaoh RDA at 100 Watts. Shake and vape obviously.

I never vaped the original you try to clone, so I cannot say if it is accurate or not. What I can say is that it is delicious. I added no sweetener and it is just the sweetness I like. Not too much.

Front up is the citrus (candy), followed by some berries. Nothing surprising here. But I also get some perfumy notes, almost musky. I can taste that this is partly from the Raspberry. I don't know if that is just me, but that is what really makes the juice. It makes it rather complex and interesting. I was quite surprised, did not expect that.

So thank you for sharing, I will definitely put that on the list of my fav. juices to make.

I call this VCO, its straight up vanilla custard overload. If you want a rich creamy dark vanilla custard with depth and an eggy body topped with a caramelized sugar crust this is it. This is actually version 2 as the first was a little bit too rich. This is surprisingly good after a 2 day steep, but keeps on changing and getting richer week by week.

###vanilla custard overload

  • Vanilla custard v1 (Cap) 4%

  • Vanilla bean ice cream. (Cap) 2%

  • French vanilla. (Cap) 2%

  • Cheesecake (Graham crust)
    (Tpa) 2%

  • Creme brulee
    (Inw) 1.5%

  • White chocolate
    (RF SC)1.5% (optional)

  • Bavarian cream
    (TPA)1%

The RF SC White chocolate definitely adds a bit more creamy mouth feel and a touch more sweetness. If you don't have it though it's not going to break the recipe.

It's my first time posting a recipe, hope you guys like it.

3 points

I have TPA double chocolate clear and INW milk chocolate. any thoughts?

I haven't tried any other chocolate in it, actually I haven't tried any other chocolate flavors at all.

White chocolate doesn't have any chocolate in it. I mostly just use it for enhancing the vanilla and creamy taste.

I'd imagine chocolate might push this to a chocolate souffle flavor

More Than a Mango Smoothie

Ingredient | Percentage ---|--- TFA Banana Cream | 2.25% TFA Dragonfruit | .5% FA Fuji Apple | 1.5% Koolada 10% | 1% FA Meringue | .5% Cap Sweet Mango | 4.25% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream | 2%
TFA Vanilla Swirl | 1%
TFA Whipped Cream | 1%

A nice summertime vape. I hope you like it as much as I do

Ice Cream - TFA VBIC, TFA Vanilla Swirl. In earlier iterations this was entirely VBIC but I threw in some vanilla swirl and toned down the VBIC a bit later on. The vanilla swirl compliments the VBIC nicely and also helps out to 'blend' the ingredients a bit.

Mango - Cap Sweet Mango. Not too much to say here, we don't want a bold earthy mango but rather a light and sweet mango as a top note and Cap sweet mango fits that profile perfectly.

Apple Juice - FA Fuji Apple, TFA Dragonfruit, FA Meringue. This is my ghetto version of apple juice. I thought to myself what is apple juice? well it's basically apples and sugar. I don't use sweetener so I used Meringue as the sugar. I always add a touch of dragonfruit to my apple because they compliment each other perfectly.

Banana - TFA Banana Cream. I have a few banana flavors but none of them are too realistic tasting. I decided to go with TFA Banana Cream here because it's delicious and that's basically what the end result is after throwing the bananas in the blender anyways.

Koolada - I like my smoothie cold. Omit or adjust to taste.

Whipped Cream - When no calories are involved I'll take my smoothie topped with whipped cream please and thank you. Adds a subtle layer of creaminess to the mix also.

ELR Link Thanks for reading.

Might just have a different palate my friend. I don't taste much hibiscus as its just there for sweetness and enhancing the blossom. I do get a buttload of cherry blossom and light creamy cookie. I suggest turning the meringue down as sensitivity to that is most likely what is causing it.

edit: Another thing to note is I am vaping this on a hadaly around 25-40 wats on a simple single coil.

INW grapefruit has a very authentic grapefruit flavor for me. During my testing after I got the flavor, it was quite strong at 5%. I wanted to whip something up that tamed out the bitterness, and added some fruity complexity and sweetness at the same time. I mix this at 75/25 VG/PG and its great as a shake and vape, but the grapefruit mellows a bit after a day or so. Berry base really supports the grapefruit zing and bitterness well.

An awesome fresh summertime ADV for me

Hope you enjoy.

It just might. I haven't tried the white variety so cant comment on it specifically. Only one way to find out...

The White is sharp and has more bitterness so I'd start pretty low, like 0.5% and work up.

Yes. I hesitate to use most Inawera over 2%. I mixed it up today at 0.75% White Grapefruit today. I'll give it a test tomorrow. I'm hoping all the EM in the Strawberry Ripe will mute some of the bitterness.

Oddly enough, I was planning on mixing essentially this soon, as my first real foray into Pear. My starting percentages would have been different, and I was going to add a touch of lemon, but otherwise this is what I planned on mixing. I'll take your word for it that these are the right percentages, and just mix this instead. Not sure if I should be pleased or not ;).

I've been seeing FLV cream in a lot of recipes lately (lately to me anyway as a relatively new DIYer). I do have a bunch of creams but not FLV. until I'm due for another flavor order, which other cream might work best in place of FLV?

1 points

cap vanilla whipped cream is probably the closest sub

2 points

by geb999about 8 years ago

as a follow up I mixed this two days ago - very nice. I have BBIC and your Longing remix in my mixing queue.

one last question... does the 1% FLV cream (or 1% CAP vanilla whipped cream in my case) start to come out more as it steeps? I'm a cream fanatic. do you think an additional say 2% TPA Barvarian Cream (or any other cream you think might work) would throw the whole thing off or is it more likely to better satisfy my cream addiction?

Them Apples

  • Cereal 27 (CAP) @ 5%
  • Cream Fresh (FA) @ 1%
  • Fuji (FA) @ 2%
  • Graham Cracker Clear (TPA) @ 1%
  • Meringue (TPA) @ 1.5%
  • Super Sweet (CAP) @ 0.25%
  • Toasted Marshmallow (TPA) @ 0.5%

Total Flavoring: 11.25% Steep: 5 days (SNV)

Bananas are boring, strawberries are sweet, cinnamon is spicy. You're a tough sale, but that's okay! How do you like... Them apples?

Toasted Redux #3. Pulled that cinnamon, threw in some apple, and adjusted the base. Upped Cereal 27 to compete with the crispness of Fuji. Dropped Meringue and Cream Fresh a touch because the apple sticks to them and they were taking over. Makes for a nice dry cereal and tart apple cream vape. Notes for everything but apple are over on Toasted .

Flavor Notes:

FA Fuji is my guy. I needed a crisp apple to drop right next to the cereal, and there's nothing better than ol' faithful. At 2% it doesn't totally take over, but it begins to command the recipe. Fuji's tasty. I know it, you know it, we all know it. Boom.

This is good off the shake, but after 5 days it starts to become whole. Fuji will recess a bit and the creams will settle.

Happy mixing. 👽

::drools::

Good off the shake is an understatement. I had something really similar to this, but clearly I had just a bit too much FA Fuji, because already this seems far more on point. I'll leave a review if I can keep my hands off it for five days. I'll approach this thought when that fork in the road nears.

That Fuji can be a bully. There's a very fine line between it accenting and fully taking over. Glad you're digging this one, meatball! Thanks for the kind words. :)

This is a vanilla and peppermint I came up with wanting something a bit sweet yet refreshing for summer. I was inspired by u/JohnLaCuenta's recipe [here] (http://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/6ei80w/z/diog65o), but I wanted to go further with it and use the concentrates I prefer.

It doesn't really need a steep but a day or so makes it come together a bit more. Also, feel free to adjust koolada and/or menthol to your liking or leave it out altogether.

I've used no creams because I didn't want it to be heavy and rich. Some may call it repetitive, boring, run of the mill, or even go as far as calling mundane. Well I say "big deal!" if your tastes are traditional like mine.

[Vanilla Mint Sex] (http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/1553804/Vanilla+Mint+Sex)

  • Arctic Winter (Menthol Artic) (FA) 0.75%
  • Kool Effects (Koolada) (FW) 0.5%
  • Meringue (FA) 1%
  • Mild Winter (Peppermint) (FA) 0.75%
  • Natural Mint (WG) (INAWERA) 0.75%
  • Vanilla Shisha (INAWERA) 1%
  • Vanilla Swirl (TPA) 5%

Meringue/Vanilla Shisha/Vanilla Swirl make up the vanilla and gives it some volume and sweetness. Shisha brings up the vanilla depth in true missionary style. I know Swirl is pretty high. I feel it does a lot for the volume and sweetness in this recipe and works well this high here.

Natural Mint/Peppermint are two of my favorite mints. Natural has that combination of vegetal kind of spearmint (I think I owe u/hocuskrokus a dollar or something for using that word) and a peppermint note to it. FA peppermint is just my favorite straight peppermint concentrate. I couldn't imagine not using it here.

Menthol/Koolada is there to keep it cool and refreshing. It's pretty good without the menthol but I don't love it without a cooling agent like koolada. It's supposed to be cool mint.

Mix and enjoy. As always I appreciate feedback if you have some.

EDIT: words and formatting.

Alli-Gator Gum (Lemon Lime)

Lime Flavorah @ 0.6%

Lemon Sicily Flavourart @ 2.0%

Marshmallow TPA @ 3.0%

Dragon Fruit TPA @ 1.0%

Cactus INW @ 0.2%

Sweet and Tart TPA @ 0.4%

Sweetener TPA @ 0.4%

Total @ 7.6%

This was an aim to hit a gator(ade) style gum vape after thinking about a recipe following gum week and getting a little nostalgic. One of my favorite gums was the lemon lime Gator Gum-always nice to age yourself as it was discontinued in 1989. This profile was completely guided by memory of how it tasted. Gives me the luxury as well to say this vape tastes just like it and unless you have some lying around (that would be something!) you can't really deduct points on accuracy. This approach of not using a gum base to develop this came directly from observations made by ID10-T that these gum bases are mostly colored/flavored pink-not an ideal canvas upon which to build a fruit flavored gum. Thus, I did not use a gum base.

I went about this in a pretty straight forward manner using Flavorah lime and Lemon Sicily to form the main lemon-lime flavor. The Flavorah lime has a very distinct artificial lime flavor that lines up very well with the artificial lime type flavoring you run into in many products from candy to snow cones. At only .6% it is the identifying characteristic that cannot be subbed. Lemon Sicily did a nice job to balance the sharpness of the lime. Everything else was a calculated guess to create texture (marshmallow) and juiciness (Cactus). The dragon fruit seemed to work as an emulsifier/juicifier/complexifier and I was really on the fence as to whether this was more of a Lime Skittles flavor than the mythic Gator Gum until I added just a touch of TPA sweet and tart to add that little zing that sold me that it could be. Either way, it is a pretty nice fruity citrus summer type vape for a lime lover like myself.

I hope you enjoy it and thank you for being inspired enough to mix it up. Curious to hear your feedback. I noticed that I had to really shake the crap out of the bottle to get it to homogenize. I mixed it close to 90 VG so that is probably why.

I don't have FLV Lime. Yet. I'm gonna sub INW as it's another great candy lime. I'm curious about the 3% TPA Marshmallow though. That stuff is mostly EM and will kill a mix. With all the citrus here it probably needs a little muting though.

Looking forward to mixing this up.

Cool man yeah that sub sounds like it would work. The marshmallow was my way of adding mouth feel without bringing in any of the off notes a lot of the texturizers bring to the party. You could certainly drop it a percent if you plan on sitting on it. I have been mixing up small batches and vaping it in a day or two which is typical for me so I don't doubt it would fade against a steep. That damn EM ...hahahha...

Blue Frost Revisited

Mfg | Flv | % ---|---|---- Cap | Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy | 1 OSDIY | Blue Raspberry Slush | 8 Cap | Hibiscus | 0.5 FW | Pink Champagne | 2 TFA | Raspberry (Sweet) | 1.5 TFA | Strawberry | 2 ECX | WS-23 | 1

Revised, reformulated, and remixed. It's been almost 2 years since I made the original and in the last year it hasn't changed. But I'd kind of always wanted to go back and simplify the mix. When I got my hands on some WS-23 one of the first things I thought after trying it was that it was the "Frost" I needed in Blue Frost.

With new found inspiration I decided to strip Blue Frost down to the essentials. I dropped the FLV Raspberry, FW Razzleberry and TFA Sweetener; the first two because they are superfluous and the last because I never really used sweetener when I mixed it for myself (and when I do Cap/PUR Super Sweet are the way to go.) Wayne was right about the Razzleberry watering down the mix and the candied raspberry effect it brought to the table was already covered by the combination of Raspberry Sweet and Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy.

Cap Hibiscus: I'd seen it mentioned several times that this flavor works well in slushee mixes and in ConcreteRiver's review he describes a "Lingering sticky sweet mouthfeel, again more pronounced with higher wattages. Almost like the way the syrup in a slurpee sticks to your mouth long after you take a sip."

And, of course, he's right. It works well to bridge the gaps and enhance the syrupy aspect of Blue Slush.

WS-23: This stuff is the best coolant I've tried, hands down. I worked my way up from .25% and it kept getting colder and colder with no perceptible off notes or funky muskiness like I get from Koolada (as low as .5%) At %1 it's a perfect frost, adding all the cold without affecting any of the flavor. This stuff is amazing and quite addicting, I kind of want to put it in everything now.

The original Blue Frost was 90% where I wanted it and after working on it so long, I was satisfied with where it was at. Now it's 100% to my palate and officially done. So if you've tried Blue Frost, please mix this up and let me know what you think :)

I've been on a slush binge working and reworking things and your notes have helped me along the way. I have that WS-23 on order and your recipe looks good. I am surprised your getting any effect from the Hibiscus at .5%?? I have to "add to cart" yet another thing...hahaha...Did you experiment driving it higher or did the floral(ness) start to creep in too much? Thanks for this write up and remix man. I'll be mixing it up mid-week when I get a few goodies in.

2 points

by Apexifiedabout 8 years agoSuckling from the teats of Daenerys Targaryen

I was surprised about the effect, too! I planned on starting at .5% and expected to work my way up from there, just until it started to get too floral but .5% had exactly the effect I was after with just a slight tinge of floral on the exhale.

Actually I read your notes on the slush's you were working on from the Slush FOTW and it got me hyped on slush too. I was working on a few different slush recipes after that before getting WS-23 and deciding to remix Blue Frost (again)

Definitely let me know what you think and hopefully it will at least give you some ideas for your slush (which I will happily mix up:)

An already awesome recipe, somehow made even better. I'm vaping this at this very moment and it's super. Loving the additional sticky syrup thing from the hibiscus, and that WS-23 is what's up.

I mixed this up with a couple of subs (the creator cringes). I subbed out the Cotton candy with marshmallow (maltol heavy like the cc) and the TPA Raspberry sweet for FA's Raspberry (I like it better than TPA's). So yes, in fairness it is a bit' different.

Nonetheless, it makes a real nice blue slush vape. OSDIY really did everyone a favor as it anchors the whole thing together. I've been wrenching on this profile for a good while as well playing the pros and cons game in my head and I think you made some real good moves I would have never considered:

The pink champagne plays in there nice and soft but is doing something nice to sort of emulsify things maybe and drive home that beverage texture? It works.

The biggest thing you did that I had never done in this profile was the addition of TPA Strawberry which is one of my favorites of all time. I am guessing you used it to kind of act as a natural sweetener to the raspberry. It pops its head through here and there and plays with that raspberry in a nice way. It kind of intensifies the raspberry in a cool way that I can see the slush flavor hits.

The Hibiscus does make it stick to you and that trick I lifted as well from Mr. Concrete River.

And of course, that WS-23 takes every "cold" vape to another level of satisfaction. It is amazing.

All in all I think it is a really nice vape and forgive me for the subs as I add to cart that Caps blue CC. I felt like I had enough of the core recipe to make a basic assessment and it is real nice and I will be happily finishing this bottle before sun down! Nice work!

Thanks for the feedback :)

I think subs/remixes are great whether intentional or out of necessity, especially if you get a chance at some point to mix the original. It give you an opportunity to get creative and also compare how the changes affect the profile and intentions of the original. It's all in the spirit of DIY, so no cringing from me.

That said; the Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy does enhance the blue notes and also plays off the textural component of Pink Champagne. But I like the idea of marshmallow for mouthfeel. I agree with FA Raspberry being a better raspberry in general, but Ras sweet worked better at keeping things artificial, exactly as nature didn't intend a Blue Raspberry to be but as we've all come to expect.

1 points

by SophisticatedHackabout 8 years ago

I will mix it 1 to 1 next week for certain as I am most impressed with it even in my "remixed" form. I hadn't considered the raspberries from that perspective-I have this compulsion with FA raspberry that I'm seeking therapy for : ) I will mix it again (with Ras Sweet) prior to getting the Blue ras CC as I've already ripped though 15 mls of it and that rarely happens with me. Its clear to me that you have crafted a great recipe.

I had two days to come up with a five-ingredient all-FLV recipe that would have only 3 days' steep, to go head-to-head against /u/concreteriver. What was at stake besides bragging rights was the loser having to vape 5% OoO Cheese. I lost, as seen here. Barf bag in hand, I will do the Vape of Shame.

Here's a link to the winning recipe, Gravity.

But I'm still proud of what I came up with.

#Gumeye Ball

Flavor | % ---|--- Vanilla Pudding | 3.5 Lemonade | 3 Bubble Gum | 2 Cream | 0.75 Marshmallow | 0.5

Notes:

This whimsical one was initially inspired by, and borrows its name from, a delightfully macabre, silly poem.

Gumeye Ball by Shel Silverstein

There’s an eyeball in the gumball machine,

Right there between the red and the green,

Lookin’ at me as if to say,

“You don’t need any more gum today.”

This recipe is a big bite of one of those cartoon or superhero-styled ice cream bars from an ice cream truck, whichever one is vanilla- and lemon-flavored, probably Tweety Bird or some other yellow character. You know, the ones with the gumball eyes? This is the bite with the eyeball in it.

FLV Bubblegum - an authentic bubblegum flavor that's less chalky than some other manufacturers' offerings.. I get some harsh throat from it standalone, but Vanilla Pudding and Marshmallow smooth that over nicely.

FLV Vanilla Pudding - This soothing stuff makes a great base even without much of a steep. It tastes like a vanilla pudding cup, and those ice cream truck bars have much more in common with pudding than with actual ice cream. Kids don't know any better. They aren't looking for the perfect custard tones layered into crispy malty dairy notes in their all-natural preservative-free hand-churned ice cream made from the milk of Kentucky grass-fed holsteins and eggs from free-range chickens collected by Swedish virgins during a full moon and flavored with real Tahitian vanilla beans. Gods, that gets exhausting. Relax. Have some vanilla pudding. Enjoying this flavor lets you be a kid again.

FLV Lemonade - Sweet, sugary lemonade. Definitely not freeze-squeezed, more like the Country Time, like something you'd buy from a kid with a lemonade stand. Blends in easily with the vanilla pudding to make one of those lemon-flavored ice cream cartoon heads.

FLV Marshmallow - I want sleep on its pillowy deliciousness, just bury my face in there. It tastes more like an actual marshmallow than any of the other marshmallow flavors. In here, it eliminates any need for added sweetener, smooths over some of the rough stuff, and changes the mouthfeel and flavor of pudding into something more like soft-serve ice cream.

FLV Cream - Don't need a reason to use FLV Cream, only a reason not to. This recipes gives no reason not to. FLV Cream aka Frank's Red Hot does a great job of pulling all of this together and providing satisfying finish, without calling too much attention to itself.

Steep 2 days.

been following your recipes/video appearances for a while now and enjoy them both. I know this was mixed as part of a contest using FLV flavors only. Outside of the lemonade I don't have any of the FLV flavors. how do you think this will hold up if I sub all the rest out to get a general sense of the mix? I have others bubblegum, marshmallow and cream. what might be a reasonable approximation for FLV vanilla pudding? I don't have any vanilla pudding flavor. perhaps FLV Vanilla Custard at the same percent?

2 points

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

Before I was challenged to do this, I had been wanting to do the same profile using INW Bubble Gum, LB Vanilla Ice Cream, TFA Vanilla Swirl, and whatever Lemonade or Lemon worked best - but I never actually got around to mixing it up that way. I'm sure you could the same profile, and probably even do it better, using completely different ingredients. FLV Vanilla Custard would probably be a good sub at the same %. But it's not as sweet as Vanilla Pudding. If one or more of your other ingredients are sweeter, it should be fine.

Cheat Day (Maple Bar)

  • FLV Maple Bar @2%

  • FA Zeppola @3%

  • TFA Cinnamon Danish @.25%

  • FA Maple Syrup @.5%

  • FLV Frosting @1%

  • FLV Milk & Honey @1%

  • CAP Super sweet @.4%

A maple bar has been a vape I've mess around with off and on for about a year now, and now I finally found it. For background, as a weight class athlete and bodybuilder I generally keep a very strict diet, but I'm also a former fat kid so I LOVE food and Maple donuts have always been one of my favorite foods to eat, so since I partially use vaping to curb my sweet tooth, this was not just a flavor I wanted, but somewhat needed for my own sanity. Now I can have a little cheat day ever day. :)

FLV Maple bar:

So this is obvious, it's a maple donut. But it's not quite a maple donut. Check out ConcreteRiver's review on the DIY subreddit, I'd agree with him. But the short of it is it's dry, somewhat stale donut base, but the Maple frosting is very good, and it's just that, a maple/vanilla frosting, not maple syrup.

FA Zeppola:

The perfect donut body, light and fluffy, somewhat fried and sugar covered. This simply fills the body of the donut base out. The only issue with it is it's a little TO light of a donut in my opinion so next we add

TFA Cinnamon danish:

Okay, so this is SUPER low %, but to me all the Cinnamon danish's are very strong. I prefer TFA over CAPS, the cinnamon is more baked into a dense dough and less "bright" so to speak. .25% is low enough it doesn't provide any cinnamon flavor to the finished recipe, but it adds just a bit of dense dough to the donut.

FLV Frosting:

I actually really love this flavor, it's kinda waxy but in a good way. Not like a buttercream frosting, but like canned vanilla frosting from the store, which works great to separate the maple frosting from the dough flavors making it seem more like it's on top of the donut and not just maple baked dough

FA Maple Syrup:

The frosting kinda lightens the maple frosting and brings a touch to much vanilla, so this just brings the vanilla back into balance.

FLV Milk & Honey:

This is a weird flavor. But it's also an amazing flavor that I only just recently finally picked up. It's not honey, but it's not maple either. It's a weird somewhat dark sweetness, but when combined with other maple flavors it really takes on a darker, more maple type flavor. Without this the whole thing was just a little, so this smooths it out, sweeten's things up, and enhances the maple frosting. I would say this isn't 100% needed, but it's much better with than without.

Super sweet:

This is always optional, but it's a donut and donuts have all the sugar in them, so just put it in.

Right after I mixed this it smelled dead on like a maple donut and tasted great after a shake, so you can SnV this, but it really comes together better after a week, letting some of the dough flavors settle in, and the frosting/cream type flavors fill out.

Kahlua Bourbon

Concentrate|Percentage| :---|---:|---:|---:|---: VG|70.00%|140.0|8.820 g|7.000 ml Cappucino (SC)|1.50%|3.0|0.150 g|0.150 ml Vanilla Bourbon (FA)|1.00%|2.0|0.100 g|0.100 ml Caramel (FA)|1.00%|2.0|0.100 g|0.100 ml Jamaican Rum (FA)|1.50%|3.0|0.150 g|0.150 ml Fresh Cream (FA)|1.00%|2.0|0.100 g|0.100 ml Hazelnut (FW)|0.50%|1.0|0.050 g|0.050 ml

Steep time: Minimum 2 weeks

It's been a long time coming, but I've finally created a coffee-forward juice that I actually enjoy. There are definitely ways to improve upon this, but after 4 months of testing coffee concentrates, my tongue needs a break.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not a big coffee drinker, but back in March, a friend of mine introduced me to the White Russian. Dairy + alcohol sounds like a bad time, but it was much better than I expected. So, the hunt is on!

I began my quest by Googling the word "Kahlua" and found out that it was an actual company by the name, and Wikipedia defined Kahlua as a rum and coffee flavored liqueur. Right off the bat, I knew I would be combining Jamaican Rum with SC Cappucino to create the base of the drink.

Now, for the cream. TFA Sweet Cream wasn't heavy enough and brought some unwanted eggy notes with it at 2%. FLV Sweet Cream was a bit too heavy for what I was going for. I settled in with FA Fresh Cream at 1%. It adds a delicate sweetness and smooths the rum and coffee out quite well. But...

Ew...This isn't sweet...at all...I don't want to overdue but this needs SOMETHING. When I do decide to drink coffee, I drop a soft Werther's Original caramel candy in my cup and let it melt. I also use a few sprinkles of hazelnut. So, let's put them both in the coffee! The caramel sweetens up the mix and adds a bit of grittiness while the hazelnut adds some body, so things aren't super creamy.

From there, it was time to add some alcohol. Vanilla Bourbon isn't quite the vodka that is found in a White Russian, but the boozy notes it delivers fit well into the mix. It also brings that warm vanilla with it which helps bring the entire mix together.

If you're anything like me and not a big coffee drinker, this will either taste exactly like what I have described above, or it will taste like burnt popcorn lol. There is no in-between. It's not profoundly sweet or cloying at all, but the flavor lingers on your palate and in your nostrils if you exhale out of your nose.

It's been awhile since we've seen a recipe by you, hasn't it? I'm glad to see you've made something you're proud of. Also that looks amazing. Sweet Rice, Holy V, and Rich Cin seem like they'd be perfect together, FLV Cream is my Franks Red Hot, and who doesn't love FA Almond.

This one was made for my girlfriend but it turned out amazing and super addicting. Based of Special K Cinnamon pecan cereal.

Cinna'nut cereal

  • CAP Cereal 27 @3%

  • FLV Cinnamon Crunch @1.5

  • FLV Crunch Cereal @.75%

  • FW Butter Pecan @1.5%

  • FA Nut Mix @.5%

  • FA Meringue @1.5%

  • FA Cream Fresh @1.5%

  • TFA Vanilla Swirl @2%

  • FW Hazelnut @.5%

  • TFA Toasted Marshmallow @1%

CAP Cereal 27/FLV Cinnamon crunch/FLV Crunch cereal

These 3 create the cereal base. A lot of people dislike FLV crunch cereal, and I understand why. If you use it high it taste funky as hell, but at .75% WITH the cereal 27 it bends the flavor away from the standard corn cereal taking it more into a wheat grain cereal, and the cinnamon crunch brings some cinnamon sugar coated grain flavor to it to bring the base.

FW Butter pecan/FA Nut mix

Being a pecan flavored cereal FW butter pecan was a pretty obvious choice, but I didn't want it to go to far into a candied nut flavor, so using FA nut mix in a small % adds a vague nut flavor without being to obviously any single nut in order to bolster the pecan flavor.

FA cream fresh/TFA Van swirl/FA meringue/TPA toasted Marshmallow/FW Hazelnut

A very basic creamy milk base. Adding the TPA toasted marshmallow to it brings some brown sugar type sweetness to the mix emulating the sugar mixing with the milk in the bottom of the bowl.

Optional

If you want a slightly drier texture to it .25-.5% of AP will help with that. It's good without and depending on how you prefer the cereal would decided if and how much you'd use.

Honey's Wet Melons

  • TFA Papaya 1.5%
  • TFA Honeydew 1%
  • INW Cactus 1%
  • INW Honey .5%

edit: don't laugh at my title this is very serious
edit2: Here they mention Papaya and Cactus combine to make a bubblegum. I'm definitely getting a gum vibe from my recipe, texture more-so than flavor. Neat stuff.

That would explain why my watermelon, strawberry recipe tastes like bublelicious gum. I was confused AF lol.

Looks good, I mean who doesn't love some big juicy melons?

Lol, I'm still learning how flavors interact with eachother. I believe TFA/TPA lists what chemicals are in their flavors, not that I know what it really means. Like Strawberry Ripe has a lot of ethyl maltol.

Everyone appreciates some nice melons.

Fruit Punch

  • TPA Jackfruit @ 2.5%
  • TPA Nectarine @ 3%
  • TPA Strawberry @ 2%
  • FA Black Cherry @ 0.50%
  • FA Royal Orange @ 0.50%
  • Koolada @ 0.25%

I really like the versatility of Jackfruit, and I thought it would provide a great canvas for the other flavors. It has a soft, tropical fruit body that really helps bridge bright fruits together.

TPA Nectarine really shines here. If you've never used it, it's very similar to TPA Juicy Peach, but it has more of a fleshy taste. It's got a bit more tartness than the peach, and personally, I think it's juicier. It's the high note that brightens the entire mix.

I thought TPA Strawberry was the best Strawberry for the mix. With the other flavors, it provides that red, almost syrupy flavor that you'd find in commercial fruit punches.

FA Black Cherry was used because I felt like the recipe wasn't "red" enough without it. I know that might not make sense, but I can also pick out the red fruit flavors in a fruit punch, and the black cherry does a nice job of complimenting the strawberry- it adds more of an overall punch flavor.

FA Royal Orange was used to keep the nectarine in the forefront of the mix. Without it, the nectarine falls a bit flat, and it doesn't pop as much. Royal Orange on its own is somewhat of a soft, flat, orange flavor, but here it helps in keeping things fruity.

Koolada is obviously optional, but as with all of my fruit mixes, I think it helps in pushing the entire mix to a crisper, brighter level.

I'll just throw my rec for MF Nectarine in here. Probably the best concentrate ever made. Recipe looks good! Just missing the Black Cherry.

I'll have to give that a try! I really enjoy TFA Nectarine and think it's a bit undervalued compared to TFA Juicy Peach. If MF is better than TFA's, it's gotta be amazing.

Cool Your Gherkin

I wanted something in the way of a good fizzy party punch with mint and fruit floating in it. Something that reminded me of long days getting sunburnt on the lake, 4th of July parties, long weekends and no worries.

One of my favorite summer beverages is cucumber mint sparkling water. I don't know what it is but I can't get enough of the stuff. It's great to just have in the fridge steeping at all times. I've got fresh spearmint coming up in my herb garden which I tastedon't alongside Cucumber Mint by Flavor West. It's got a good, green mint flavor that doesn't read too much like gum. It's herbal enough to mimic that snipped mint flavor, and is kind enough to supply a decent base for a little additional cucumber flavoring by TFA. TFA's cucumber is a little salty to my taste all alone, but it's authentic and crisp. I wanted a little bubbly so I threw some Champagne in there. Pink Champagne might even work better if you have that.

Jamaican Rum is in the mix because it's a solid rum that smells spot on like cheap Cachaça. Papaya and Pink Guava have that nice tropical fruit muskiness that just fits in here so well to fruit it up and bring it alive. I may have to kick that Papaya down a little since it and the Pink Guava are powerful flavors and threaten to overpower everything else in the mix, but I've had this in my RDA all day while paddleboarding. It was excellent.

Brand | Flavor | % ---------|----------|---------- TPA | Champagne | 1% TPA | Cucumber | 2.5% FW | Cucumber Mint | 1.5% TPA | Jamaican Rum | 2% TPA | Papaya | 2% FLV | Pink Guava | .5%

Edit, now that I have a little time: reformatted, added details.

I wanted to make a shitty political joke so I made this shit:

https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/share/f66541f3-a221-4bbf-9116-3026f8022f3d

% | Manu | Flavor
0.75 (TPA) Marshmallow 0.75 (self) Menthol Crystal 10% dilution
2 (FA) Peach 3 (TPA) Peach (juicy) 2 (CAP) Sweet Strawberry 1.5 (FW) Wintergreen

Additive: 4 drops of TPA Dragonfruit. ~.11g

V1 used cap cool mint instead of wintergreen. It was a very poor choice since cool mint is a bit like a vanilla andes mint and didn't fit well with the peach.

apart from mints i've been stuck on making . cereals ... some are better than others.

So, long time lurker, used to post a lot, but life kicked me in the face a bit.
I just mixed this up, and yeah its strong, in your face flavor, but that's kinda what I was gunning for here. S&V is great on this, and it works for me, since I'm in Texas, and its hot. VERY hot.

  • Jackfruit (TFA) @ 4%
  • Kiwi DBL (TFA) @ 2%
  • Dragonfruit (INW) @ 1%
  • Super Sweet (PRL) @ 0.5%

I wanted something nice and tropical for July and August, as well as something that would work in a tank as well, since I've been super busy, and dripping isn't always doable. Mixed it at a 70VG/ 30PG ratio. Next time I make a smallish batch of it, I might add a touch of coolada to it, see how it comes out. As of right now, I KNOW I'll be making a much bigger batch of this.
Hope folks try it and give feedback! Thanks for being an awesome Reddit community.

So here's something I kind of knocked together as a first try that turned out pretty well. It's very vapeable on day one, and gets better over time, but it's nothing like a final version. It's good though, good enough that I had to rescue my sampler from a non-vaper who tried it and wanted to keep vaping it. But it's not properly balanced yet.

Hill St Blues V1

FA Bilberry 1%

FW Blueberry 4%

FA Cream Fresh 2%

FA Custard 4%

FA Lemon Sicily 0.5%

FA Zeppola 4%

Notes:

So, first off, FA Zeppola is the bakery I have been waiting for. I like the idea of bakeries, and I use lots of them, heavily sometimes, but they all have a bit of a chemical taste for me. Not Zeppola. I love Zeppola. I'll copy something I posted to another forum here:

"When I was a small child my mother and I were very poor, and lived in what I can only describe now as a hovel in rural Southern Quebec. She was pretty capable, and grew a lot of our food, canned it, etc. She was also a pretty good cook. A treat, one we didn't have often, was doughnuts she made from scratch. She'd make the batter out of... things, I suppose ;)- I wish I had gotten that recipe from her, but I imagine it was basically a cake batter with some spices- and then deep fry the doughnuts in this terrifying pot full of hot oil. They were amazing, especially still warm from the pot. Zeppola tastes a bit like those home-made doughnuts to me, with a dusting of powdered sugar my Mom would not have added."

Suffice it to say that I like Zeppola. That said, while I mean it to be the main note I think 4% might be a bit much here. V2 will pull it back a bit, I think. 2% might be enough.

OK, so the next note is Blueberry. I'm using two of Edible's Blueberry Trinity flavors, but it's still worth commenting on them. The Bilberry is the other star here. It has this great, great dark thing happening that just soaks into Zeppola's cakiness and gives the whole thing some delicious forbidden weight. 1% is crazy high for Bilberry, but it works here. The FW blueberry adds some brightness and sugar, and is absolutely necessary, but I think it's a bit much here- I will take it down to 2-3% in the next revision.

OK, on to the accents. I wanted this to have a light feel that precluded things like CAP's VC. I also think a bit of lemon makes blueberries pop, so... FA Custard was a no-brainer. I like FA Custard a lot, a lot more than most, I guess. It's subtle, but great, and it has this very nice little lemon thing happening on the exhale. 4% might actually be a bit low here, surprising for an FA flavor.

That said, Cream Fresh might not be the right cream here. I think V2 might want a slightly different cream profile that I am working on...

And speaking of lemon... there's no way I would devise a recipe like this and not put a bit of lemon in it. It makes the Blueberries pop, it marries with the FA Custard, it cuts the richness of the Zeppola...

I intended the lemon as an accent, but I think V2 is going to promote lemon to a main flavor, as it marries so well with everything else, and might help keep the recipe from becoming cloying.

by EdibleMalfunctionabout 8 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

I must mix this up ASAP. Bringing the lemon forward even more would probably be really good. At a low percentage, as you said, it enhances the blueberry, but even lemon and blueberry as main flavors go awesome together, especially in bakery mixes like this.

Cool, definitely let me know what you think. This version is pretty good, I think, but I also think there's a lot of room for improvement. And, after a month, I'm not sure I entirely like how it steeps.

It has been a pretty hectic little while for me, so I haven't had a chance to get back to playing with it recently, but I'm planning on mixing a few variations (some just tweaks, some pretty different) this weekend. I'm all ears when it comes to thoughts/suggestions.

Watermelon Ripe

Watermelon (Red Summer) FA 4%

Watermelon Purilum 1.5%

Cucumber Cap 2.5%

Cucumber FA 1%

Dragon Fruit TPA 1%

Hibiscus Cap .4%

Raspberry FA .4%

WS-23 1%

Super Sweet Cap .2%

Total 12%

I have to admit when I mixed this up I was aiming for a watermelon agua fresca beverage. Instead what comes forth is a pretty realistic bite of ripe cold watermelon. I'm okay with that and its' something I've been after for a while. Funny how things can happen.

It is a really straight forward recipe really. The cucumbers combine to give support to the watermelon and provide water content and some texture while not bringing a lot of distracting flavor to the mix.

The watermelon blend is the key here that I could never crack. I always loved the realism of FA's watermelon but hated the amount of failures left in its' wake trying to get what I wanted from it. The purilum watermelon acts as a natural booster (here) to make the FA watermelon push through the mix in a present way without morphing it into something it is not. A true fleshy watermelon. It is very ripe and sweet but holds onto realism.

A few additives are in play here...the TPA Dragon fruit helps bind things. The Cap Hibiscus helps fill in some of the body of the melon and sticks it to your mouth without being floral. The FA raspberry acts to add some depth to the melons ripeness. The WS-23 to put this thing in the freeze box and one drop of super sweet just to lock in the ripeness.

If you are after a candy watermelon this won't be your jam. If you want some real fruit in your face and you like watermelon then I invite you to give it a mix. Shake and vape ready. Cheers.

The following recipe is based with u/Enyawreklaw's [Obsidian RY4 cookie recipe] (https://diyordievaping.com/2017/05/01/obsidian-cookie-ry4-by-enyawreklaw-diy-e-liquid-recipes/). I've been toying with it for a few weeks and I really like it. I think Obsidian is really a pretty well thought out recipe and appreciate the way that it's been designed to be bent and added to in simple ways. The cookie dough in it might be a bit polarizing depending upon your tastes but it does really need to steep a bit.

I didn't want to make "toppings" as Wayne suggests. Instead I wanted to push the envelope on it's profile a little further and make it more rich and decadent. Deeper and richer. I'm a big fan of the deep caramel and rich bakery notes that Obsidian has already and I wanted to push it a bit further without mucking up the caramel and brown sugar notes that were already there. I turned to fruits that fit to try and accomplish that. Ones with juiciness and dark sweetness. They may seem like toppings in the recipe but once you taste it you realize they snuggle right in pretty well.

[YakGak - Obsidian Based] (http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/1543377/YakGak%20%5BObsidian%20Based%5D)

  • INW Cherries 0.5%
  • FA Cookie (Biscotto) 0.5%
  • FLV Cookie Dough 2%
  • FLV Fig 1%
  • FW Hazelnut 0.5%
  • FA Pear 0.75%
  • FW Pie Crust 1%
  • TFA RY4 Double 3%

For flavor notes I'm only going to comment on the concentrates I've added to the Obsidian base for this recipe.

FLV Fig - I've been messing with figs since I started DIY. I love this fig. It's what I expect from a fig. It has a cooked(ish) fig flavor that's really rich and dark. It brings a bit of natural sweetness and serves to deepen and sweeten the caramel/brown sugar notes in the TPA RY4 Double/Pie Crust. It also reinforces a little bit of earthiness in the tobacco perfectly. I feel like it makes it that much more rich and luxurious.  This IS the fig I've been looking  a long time for.

INW Cherries - I've only used enough here to lend a hand to the fig and keep it away from getting too earthy and muddy. Keeping it low here helps brighten up the dark sweetness of the fig a bit without getting a medicinal cherry note.

FA Pear - This ingredient completes what I consider to be the "hat trick" that makes these 3 additions to the mix work.  This particular pear has some juiciness that blends with the caramel to get sweet and a bit sticky on the end of the tongue. It also helped to brighten the fig a bit more. It blends here very well. You don't really taste pear, but it's there doing its job.

Sweetener - I've left out the sweetener. I'm not a big fan of it and more than a few drops per 30ml takes over a mix for me. Feel free to sweeten for your own palate but I find it sweet enough already.

I have to give thanks to Wayne of course for the Obsidian base. It's a pretty stellar base to build upon. It's very rich and has a lot of depth. I'm not a huge fan of many of his recipes but this one I definitely like and can get behind. I'm actually a bit surprised that I haven't seen many recipes building upon it yet. It's really just begging for it.

Give this a mix and let me know what you Think. Feel free to make adjustments to the fig/cherries/pear combo. Turn up the fig, turn up the cherry, whatever you want to your liking, but I think the pear should stay where it is.  You can shake and vape this pretty much but it's going to blend together a bit better after a few days. Wayne suggested 7 days for Obsidian but I think it's pretty good at 3 or 4. Cookie dough can be a little weird and soft/airy when it's fresh. If you're getting that, let it steep for a few days and come back to it.

You can try subs for this recipe but it will surely end up far from its intended results.

Just dug this out of the "failed recipes" box and gave it a taste, and it was actually quite nice. I don't tip my toes in the fruity waters often, but here's what happens when I do:

Apricaught Me Slippin' v2

FA Apricot- 1%

INW Cactus- .25%

FA Oakwood- 1.5%

INW Gold for Pipe- 1%

INW Black for Pipe- 1.5%

INW Dirty Neutral Base- 1.5%

Steep time: I'd go a month. I set it aside after a couple weeks, and wasn't satisfied. Trying it again now it is at a month and a half. On ELR

Don't let the 4% of tobaccos fool you, the Apricot/Cactus combo are still very much on the top here. I'm not going to pretend to have the words to describe them, because it's the road less traveled for me. Suffice it to say that I picked FA Apricot for this based on research here. It just seemed like my best bet, but I have no other Apricot experience to compare to.

The tobacco base: this is pretty good without the Apricot/Cactus too. A slightly modified version can be found here for anyone interested in that. What I'd really like to touch on is the Gold for Pipe. It's not a flavor that I can really get in to on its own. But in a recipe like this, it plays a pretty important role. I use it as kind of a bridge between the tobaccos and the sweets. So if you're trying to make an aromatic blend, throw in a little Gold for Pipe to blend the stronger tobaccos with your topping of choice. It works great. Another example of how I use it can be found here

I'm trying to wrap my head around an apricot, fig, hazelnut, and honey drizzled with cream recipe. My first iteration tasted good vaping it, but on the knuckle taste test it was most foul. Waiting on FLV Fig to get here and thinking about eschewing FA Hazel Grove for FW Hazelnut.

FLV fig has a great dark musty sweetness. It compliments rich tobaccos and bakeries well. It should do something nice with creams but it may overpower apricot a bit.

If you're looking for a brighter fresh(ish) fig I'd recommend Capella.

In my head, the apricot would play second fiddle to the fig . . . so that might be okay. I was reading about a turkish dessert that involved cooked figs stuffed with hazelnuts and honey and served with apricots underneath a drizzling of cream. Package should be here tomorrow or Friday . . . it will be the first thing I tinker with. Appreciate the suggestion. I'll definitely come back around to it if I can't make FLV work.

Strawberry Bourbon Cream

Ingredient | % ---------|---------- TFA Strawberry Ripe | 6 FA Strawberry Red Touch | 1 FA Vanilla Bourbon | 2 CAP Whipped Cream | 2

Peach Ice Cream

Ingredient | % ----------|---------- TFA Juicy Peach | 3% CAP Vanilla Bean Ice Cream | 4% TFA Bavarian Cream | 2% FA Fresh Cream | 1%

Hey guys, I made some simple recipes with flavors I had in my stash. In the strawberry recipe the best part IMO is the combination of strawberries. For me, CAP Whipped Cream doesn't impart much flavor (very soft), but adds to a comfortable mouth feel. The Vanilla Bourbon doesn't taste like alcohol to me, but it really classes up the mix with intriguing vanilla complexity.

In the peach ice cream the creams combine into one delicious ice cream. The Bavarian cream really makes this interesting. If you enjoy creams and haven't tried FA Fresh Cream, I highly recommend picking it up. I'm not really getting harshness from Peach Juicy at 3%.

I added 1 drop per 10mL of CAP Super Sweet to these for extra deliciousness. I've been vaping on the same framed staples for a while now with no noticeable deterioration of the coils. Thanks for reading!

edit: Come to think of it, I do get a nice whipped cream taste on the exhale. Light, sweet, fluffy and creamy.

by ID10-Tabout 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

Vanilla Bourbon shouldn't taste like alcohol, it's not named after the liquor, it's a type of vanilla named after Bourbon Island (now called Reunion Island) where it is grown, which was in turn named after a French royal family. So it's good that it doesn't taste like alcohol to you. That means the power of suggestion doesn't work on you as easily as it seems to work on others.

🤔 That's neat. I have Catalan Cream and Vanilla Bourbon, but kinda forgot about them. I think they can be useful in changing things up. Catalan has a touch of citrus I believe.

Creme Katalan tastes like a creme brulee with all the sweetness removed. It's a strange one.

Ice fkn Tea Peach

Ingredient|Percentage| :--|:--| INW Black Tea|3| CAP Juicy Peach|1.75| FA Apricot|1| TFA Koolada|0.5|

You can up the Koolada if you want it colder.

The Apricot is there to remove the razor blades from the Peach. FA Apricot is soooo smooth. Always add it to Juicy Peach. It makes the flavor pop and removes the throat hit. Also it's really really good.

The recipe tastes exactly like Pfanner Ice Tea from the Supermarket.

Oooo I haven't seen INW Black Tea or, that I can recall, heard anything about it. Have you tried FA Black Tea in order to be able to compare them?

Yeah, FA Apricot is terrific.

by Ernie_is_deadabout 8 years ago

Sadly I have not tried FA Black Tea yet.

But the INW one is really good, very authentic taste. Ordered it for my wife, she wanted to try it and now half the bottle is already gone.

Bloody Mango Sorbet

MFG | Concentrate | % ---|---|---- FLV | Blood Orange | 2% FLV | Mango | 3% FLV | Peach | 1.2% FLV | Marshmallow | 0.5% FA | Polar Blast | 0.5% FLV | Sweetness | 0.2%

I LOVE FLV MANGO, but it can be thin at times and is super juicy. I used FLV Peach (which is AMAZING) to give it some more body. If you have FLV Pear and are not afraid to use it then drop peach to 1% and add .5% of FLV Pear. It provides that amazing texture without it's godawful flavor. I used FLV Marshmallow here because I have it and it is <3 I needed something to provide the sorbet softness and add sweet, so here you go. FLV Blood Orange, I have been eager to use this in a mix since I smelled and tasted it. Much over 2% in mixes and it gets REALLY rindy, to me. At this level it is enough to stand and sing with the Mango. Polar Blast and Sweetness, YES, cold and SWEET. Feel free to get CAP SS in here, I would not add any extra Maltol with TFA Sweetener... If you dont have FLV Sweetness you should, it is a bit different.

Steep time, this is really good as a SnV, full body comes in after a few days.

Cooling: This is really good without the Polar Blast, I tried it with FLV Ice and I get a weird note with that one, not as bad as straight Koolada but still. Also good with WS-23

Enjoy :)

I LOVE FLV MANGO too, and I love you, too, and I can't wait to try this. I'll try the pear version, because I need to face my Fears head-on. Maybe one of each and compear them.

2 points

by FearTXabout 8 years agoTobacconist

ohhhh, a compearision sounds good.

by FearTXabout 8 years agoTobacconist

Also, I really like the pear included version better, it has more texture and a bit more nuance. But I would hate for someone to buy it just for this recipe. You HAVE to mask the taste of FLV Pear, it is atrocious.

I worked hard on a bloody mango too, in the dark days before our Lord & Savior FLV Mango. Gave up in dissatisfaction eventually, never made it back around to it. So I'm extra excited about this one.

And yes, I've heard enough about FLV Pear to know that if they hadn't sent it to me, I wouldn't buy it. Whoever thought you needed butyric acid to make a Pear flavor should be tarred and feathered.

can i replace the FLV blood orange with FW ? and if so, at what percentage? thanks

2 points

Honestly, about the same percentage. I love FW Blood Orange, the separation issue with it has always bothered me, obviously not enough over the years to not use it. I should work out well here.

Cool! Hope you like it. I did 70/30. It's vapeable right away, but I'm sure it will get better as it sits

I don't have a refined palate and I mixed this yesterday on a whim but I'm enjoying it so far.

Nana Fucks
Banana Cream (LA) 3%
Banana (FA) 2%
Ripe Banana (TFA) 1%
Cactus (Inawera) 1%
Sweet Strawberry (CAP) 2%

I was looking for a candy banana flavor without the offensive clove and/or plastic taste. The cactus and sweet strawberry seem to mask that a bit while rounding out the overall flavor. I think the three banana flavors work well together but I didn't experiment with different percentages at all.

If anyone wants to tinker around with this and report back it would be greatly appreciated! I mixed 120ml on the first go so I'm gonna be rocking it for a bit.

I didn't have any colorless LA Banana Cream and I don't know if there's a flavor difference.

I haven't tried dripping the juice yet. Currently using in a Uwell Crown .15 ohm Ni coil @ 470 deg f.

Simple one flavour shake n vapes ive been trying the last few weeks.

For context im vaping 180 watts 0.12 ohm coil on an rx300 with a smok tfv8 tank.

Tfa frosted donut @ 8% 70/30 vg pg ratio. This is my favourite shake and vape. Its quite sweet on the inhale with a vague pastey taste and has an exhale of powdered sugar. Easy to daily and vape for a few days in a row. But can be a little boring. 5% is way too weak. 10% the powdered sugar gets lost and its all just pastry inhale.

Tfa Root beer @ 2.5% 70/30 vg pg. I tried this a few times, trying to get the flavour right. 10% ruined a coil and was basically unvapable. 5% was a too strong for my taste with a strong root beer inhale and a bitter exhale almost like unsweetened sarspirella. Ive found at 2.5% its just right. Sweet rootbeer inhale and a light sweet exhale. I find it sits just right but still a little bit too much for a daily.

Tfa Caramel Candy @15% 70/30 now this is one seriously delicious and sweet daily vape. Im a caramel fiend at the best of times. But this almost tastes like caramel sauce, not so much caramel toffee or a block more like caramel ice magic.

#CHOCOMINT

 Fudge Brownie (TFA) @3.5%
 Chocolate Milkshake (RF) @2.5%
 Vienna Cream (LB) @1.0%
 Double Mint super concentrate(RF) @2.0%
 Acetyl Pyrazine (TFA) @0.5%

Just whipped this up today from scratch and it smelled so good that I couldn't help myself to a tank. If it tastes this good without aging I can't wait to see what it tastes like a week or 2 from now.

This is my first time using Double Mint (Real Flavors Super Concentrate) and at the % above it's VERY intense especially at high watts and is very paradoxical experience to have such a warm vape deliver such a cool hit at the back of the throat.

by WorstAdviceROCabout 8 years ago

Have you tested that DoubleMint as a single flavor? If so, is it more like the gum-style DM, or is it more vegetal? Strong mentholation?

Night Screamer

Mixed at 70VG/30PG w/2mg Nic.

Vanilla Bean Gelato (TFA) @10%
Strawberry Ripe (TFA) @5%
Pink Lemonade (P&B) @5%
Sweetener (TFA) @3%

Made this based on a flavour I tried a couple of years back that I cannot find locally anymore. I really like this one, a sweet, fizzy affair with a creamy exhale.

Give it a try and let me know what you think. Alright as a shake n vape, perfect on a heat steep for 3 hours.

by gjshuckyabout 8 years ago

Simple ADV for those that like it sweet and fruity with a fresh kick.

Passion

I mix at 70VG/30PG with Nic @2mg. Based on what I got flavour-wise from TNGL Passion.

Passion Fruit (TFA) @20%
Sweetener (TFA) @5%
Extreme Ice (FW) @3%

If you like it cooler, up the Extreme Ice, although based on what I've tried I wouldn't got more than 5% max. I like my flavour strong and I'm a sucker for sweet, I imagine that this could live without Sweetener (or very little) and for the Passion Fruit itself I wouldn't go lower than 15% as for me at least, I struggled to really get it to come through lower than that.

Shake n Vape.

by the-guitaristabout 8 years ago

those are an extremely high percentages for the passion fruit and Sweetener!!!

by gjshuckyabout 8 years ago

Yeah I know... I'm not sure if I have a high threshold for tasting the sweetness on my pallet, I see recipes all the time that suggest anywhere for a few drops to 2% max for sweetener, yet I got nothing lol

1 points

by Ernie_is_deadabout 8 years ago

Damn. And there I feel bad when a recipe has 15% flavor all together.

My tongue would fall off vaping that :)

How long have you stopped smoking? Just recently?

1 points

by gjshuckyabout 8 years ago

Haha!

I'm starting to toy with toning them down now, the more I read up the general consensus is less is more.

Started vaping about 18 months ago, DIY for about a month. Some gaps of rage quit smoking along the way as I seemed to get plauged with various hardware issues but all good now, much better since I got into rebuildables. Currently, haven't been a 'smoker' for a good few months.

1 points

by Ernie_is_deadabout 8 years ago

That's cool! I am only vaping for 7 months now, but have not touched a cigarette since.

Tastes are different I guess. I usually stay below 10% combined. And there are some single flavors that I really like at 3% and less as a standalone.

#Bour-BAM!

Mfg | Flavor | % ---|---|---- LB | Vanilla Ice Cream | 5 HS| French Vanilla Ice Cream | 0.5 TFA | Kentucky Bourbon | 3 TFA| Toasted Marshmallow | 1 JF | Dulce de Leche | 2 FLV | Bourbon | 0.5

I love /u/Taclite 's All-TFA Bourbon Ice Cream, from the December 2016 Monthly Recipe Thread.

  • 8% VBIC

  • 3% Kentucky Bourbon

  • 2% Toasted Marshmallow

  • 1% Brown Sugar

If you like TFA VBIC and are patient, I highly recommend trying it. However, that stuff requires a three-week steep to be good and a month to be amazing. And pepper tasters can't enjoy it. A straight sub of TFA VBIC with CAP or FW just isn't the same. So I tried making my own faster-steeping, pepper taster-friendly, version.

LB VIC + HS VIC is my favorite replacement for TFA VBIC if I want to make something for the pepper people. LB is a just a bit too light and fluffy by itself but a lil touch of HS makes it so rich and satisfying.

TFA KB + TM, if you haven't tried these two together, catch up, please. See Coop's Kiwi Bourbon recipe for details. The way that toasty thick sweetness melts into the bourbon is sexual.

JF Dulce De Leche - There's the brown sugar flavor that Bourbon basically begs for, without the long wait. The problem with vaping Taclite's recipe without the long steep is that TFA Brown Sugar at 1%. Taste it too soon, it's like the brown sugar is very angry and punishes you for your impatience. But if you just use less, it won't reach the eventual perfection of month-old Taclite BIC. This JF DDL, on the other hand, settles into the cream just as fast as the bourbons do. And if you overdrip a bit when mixing, no big deal. Can't say that for TFA Brown Sugar, an extra 0.15% of that could be catastrophic.

FLV Bourbon - Even at just 0.5%, this is the real star here. It's not as sweet corny sour mash flavored as TFA's (but also not as watered down), it doesn't have the alcoholic bite of FA Whiskey (which isn't a bourbon anyway), and it's not as well-rounded as RF SC's bourbon (but it doesn't need a steep to not be gross and then promptly fade out like that one either). What it does is absolutely nail that oak barrel aged thing like nobody's business. This flavor might not make you want to ditch other liquor flavors, but it'll certainly make you think twice about reaching for TFA Red Oak or FA Oakwood.

This recipe (and the one that inspired it) goes so well with a cup of coffee in the morning, it's ridiculous.
