So I finally took the plunge and decided to attempt mixing my own ejuice. I have been browsing a lot and settled on attempting to use a recipe already established to try and learn the concepts. I mixed the watermelon crack clone but I get this strong perfume smell off of it and when I vape it, it also taste like perfume but its more muted, kind of flavorless. Its been curing for 2 weeks now and I have tried using hot water baths on 1 of my 2 bottles to see if that helped but it hasnt. It tastes good when i put a dab on my tongue, is this any indication of how it will taste if I let it cure longer or should I start trying to adjust it?
Yeah, that's pretty much how they flavor is supposed to taste. Perfume, jolly rancher, and menthol.
The floral flavor does go away after a week or so.
Did you shake your concentrates before mixing? The menthol flavor should be very blatantly obvious when you vape it.
Lastly, as popular as this recipe is, some people straight up hate it, or would consider it an acquired taste. It's not for everyone.
Awesome!! didn't think you'd be one of the people to reply to this. From all the comments on your threads about the clone at the levels from first to final I thought this might be the flavor for me but maybe its not. I did shake the concentrates before I did it but the cool mint was also the first flavor I added to the mix as well so maybe i measured it incorrectly. Im going to tweak it a bit based on annathiika comment earlier about maybe toning it down to maybe help my tastes. Going to leave them to cure for a longer while too, I read a lot of people coming back to it after forgetting about it after a while and loving it. Again, thanks for your input, much respected.
The menthol actually comes from the Jungle Juice, so if you're missing that, it's a key ingredient.
I actually mix everything at half the values I have listed in the recipe, except jungle juice. It seems to not need as long to steep and it saves money. I keep the recipes at the given values though because I'm absolutely sure that's pretty close to the actual recipe used by BX.
Do you even like it? It sounds like you might not. If that's the case, crazy mad props to you for putting all that work in to accurately clone something you don't even like.
I did not care for it at first. No, wait. I absolutely hated it.
Now I vape it more than anything else. It grew on me.
Im on the side of hating it. I get the perfume taste as the OP did.
I did take some of the notes from it and remixed it into something completely different that turned out more of my preference. More of a watermelon cream instead of the candy/menthol.
You sure it's not the menthol you're tasting because thats what i get and the menthol is just too much for me to handle.
If it wasn't so overpowering in the menthol dept it would be my all time favorite because it's fantastic but i can only handle one or two hits .
more likely it's a combo of the jungle juice and hard candy. i get some perfume from fw hard candy and a LOT from fw jungle juice and like op, i get hardly any menthol from it even though i heard people saying it's overpowering

I actually dont taste any menthol on my vape, but when I take a dab of it and put it on my tongue, I can taste the menthol, the watermelon everything. Tastes delicious, but when I vape it, just a muted perfume taste with no menthol at all which is concerning because I was prepared of a strong menthol at first. Maybe I mixed it incorrectly.
My girlfriend and I don't get any perfume from this recipe. All you can taste is menthol for the first 5 pulls or so and after that you get adjusted to it and taste everything else. As others as suggested you could try to cut the flavoring in half or more and see if that helps. This recipe might not be for you as a lot of people don't like it.
I've seen people leave the mix for a month before they touch it and they claim the watermelon flavor comes out more. That might also be a avenue to explore instead of pouring the bottle you made down the drain.

It's not just you, I can't stand that recipe for the same reason. I kicked the flavor percentages for every flavor down to 75% of the original and it was much better, still medicinal and perfume-y to my taste, but it may work better for you.
Ill mix another batch today with a reduced percentage and give it a try. I bought enough concentrate to make at least a litre of this stuff lol so hope it works out. May I ask did yours every get any better with extra curing time and have you tried tasting a dab on your finger? if so how did that taste compared to when you vape it.
Actually you could just dilute it down with VG/PG. Just keep track of how many ml you add so you know how much nic to add also
A good 3 day steep made the mint and melon amalgamate a bit better in the flavor. Tasting it wasn't bad, if I remember right, very syrupy but not unpleasant, almost like that mint watermelon gum with the strange vg/pg tang mixed in, and it was just vaping it where I got that children's tylenol flavor. If it matters, I usually vape at 60w .3 ohms, kanthal dual coil in a Royal Hunter X rda.
it could be that you just don't get on well with the recipe. Tricky though if you do the back of the hand test and it seems really tasty there.
Few things: make sure your VG isn't too high, make sure it's fairly good PG/VG that you got from a reputable vaping site, same with nicotine, don't do anything to 'help' steeping other than shaking and leaving it in the dark, shake all your concentrates before adding, make sure you're mixing by gram weight and not drops.
Most importantly is your device though. When I first started, I tested my juice on shockingly bad set ups. Make sure it's something that you KNOW delivers good flavor.
Finally, try a different recipe. Did you get any other ingredients? I or someone could help you put together some other recipe, and if that wasn't perfumy then you'd know it was that recipe, or the menthol or something. Oh and single flavor testing the most likely ingredients will help you identify which one is the problem flavor.
Nice tip, I did actually only filled it with VG after I added all the flavorings. I do have some PG as well so maybe I'll add some to my next attempt.
I do have to go and purchase a scale too, I've been reading its more accurate that way. The company I bought all my supplies from didn't sell those so ill search for a decent scale as well.
Ive tried them on both a goblin and arromamizer both of which i've been using for the past year with store bought ejuices.
I actually made the mistake of just buying the flavors for this recipe which was another n00b move on my part. But hey its a learning process.
thanks for the advice!
yeah, don't go full VG for your first attempts. I did that and nothing tasted good. Go for close to 50/50 for your first few tests, send off to Fasttech for a Hadaly clone too. You MUST drip to test your juices. And on something that allows for great flavor. And yes, get a cheap ass scale from amazon and go by grams.
You might want to try LA watermelon solo to make sure you are not mute to it. When I started mixing I didn't realise I was mute to many flavours (mainly strawberries but some cherries and watermelons as well)
im mute to strawberries too but just finally tested real flavors SC strawberry today and i must say I can definitely taste it and its not too bad at all. Ive tried like sweet strawberry cap and jungle, ripe, inw shisha, prob a few others im forgetting
Consider yourself lucky, I cant taste RF SC strawberry. INW Shisha is the only one I am getting :/
