JF Cheesecake Graham Crust
submitted about 8 years ago by PerennialPhilosopher

Setup: Goon LP, 25g SS316L twisted and claptoned w/ 38g spaced 5 wraps @0.19 ohms, 112w power, cotton half wicks.

Testing: Jungle Flavors Cheesecake Graham Crust @ 2%, steeped two months.

Flavor Description: very similar to TFA cheesecake (graham crust), but maybe a bit better solo. the crust part of this is a little less grainy and the cheesecake part is slightly more accurate. I was expecting this to be a little more concentrated, but it seems to be scaled the same as the TFA version. TL;DR: see TFA Cheesecake (Graham Crust)

Off-flavors: none

Throat Hit: none

Uses & Pairings: almost anything. i would use a little of both this and TFA to get the best of both the cheesecake from JF and the crust from TFA instead of the usual CAP NY cheesecake+TFA cheesecake graham crust combo if you don't like CAP NY cheesecake.

Notes: holds up to a steep!

Second Opinions: Brian via ECX review: "Very happy with this one. The graham cracker crust in particular is what sets this apart. Great flavor."

Wood via ECX review: "seems to be a mix between a tfa graham and a capella ny cheesecake. I get a bit of an odd aftertaste at 4% solo and its an OK flavor but not sure it gives me anything I dont already have with my other cheesecakes."

So comparing this the TPA version, how's the coconut level in here? After trying /u/hashslingslashur 's Leche de Coco and re-evaluating a couple of mixes, I'm pretty firmly in the TPA tastes like coconut camp. Does the JF have that same thing going on?

I don't get any coconut from either really. So you might get some in the JF version.

I'm gonna guess that the coconut flavor comes from the small amount of Gamma-octalactone in the TFA version. Not everyone picks it up though, I saw someone mentioned it in a recipe for almond milk on ATF and that's where I got the idea to use it in my recipe

TFA Cheesecake (Graham Crust) is supposed to be the crust of a cheesecake, not the actual cheesecake.

It that what it's supposed to be? That's pretty much all I get out of it. It's like cheesecake is supposed to be this thin layer of crust and this big fat thick layer of cheesecake, but with TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust, someone has gotten that backwards. Love that ingredient, even though that's one weird cheesecake if it's supposed to be the whole cheesecake.

I dunno about this "tastes like coconut" camp, it might be populated entirely by strawberry non-tasters and other oddballs.

Photo is of just a crust

"This cheesecake is quite different from our original. it has more of a pronounced graham cracker note, with a tiny hint of coconut."

Note: Can't wait till the wiki is available for sharing this information.

Well, shit, they even advertise coconut in it. Looks like the "tastes like coconut" camp are normal folk and I'm the oddball!

I'm with you. No cheesecake at all, just graham crust

It's definitely crust heavy, but I do get some cheesecake. JF has a more cheesecake heavy overall effect

This was the flavor I reviewed for the DIY or die competition I started at 4% and bumped it all the way up to 7% I definitely get the coconut and only subtle hints of graham cracker maybe I'll dig up the review and add it to the comments

Why age this two months? I have a hard time believing that the flavor changes much after a few days.

Because I made the tester two months ago and got busy. I finally got around to it today.
