Hi,
I'm using one shot flavours with darkstar nicotine, PG and VG.
I always mix at 50-50 and at 12mg.
The problem I have is despite steeping all my juices taste horrible and I can't quite figure out why.
I use the right %'s and mix in a clean area.
Premade juices taste fine on the same tanks.
Any idea where it's going wrong?
More information would probably be helpful, what setup are you using, mtl or dl subohm? Have you tried mixing up an unflavored batch with nicotine, or a batch without nicotine? That should tell you what the problem is.
I believe several people have posted about darkstar nicotine being harsh but I could be mistaken. Usually harshness is a nicotine issue, but it can be certain flavors. Try it without nic and see.
This a thousand times. The first step to any issue with taste is "What's it like without nicotine?"
PG and VG are used in a variety of industries, many of them involving taste, some of them medical. Nicotine only really gets used for getting a buzz and as a pesticide(Which, to be fair, isn't the weirdest substance to get a buzz from).
I've had the oddball bottle of bad VG, never bad PG, and sometimes entire bad brands nicotine.
I use authentic kayfun mini v3s at around 12w on a 1.1ohm kanthal coil.
It's not that the juices are harsh it's just that they taste like dirty dishwater at times?
I've tried chefs flavours concentrates, drip hacks, pixlated and divine.

Do the mixing unflavored with nicotine and the flavored without nicotine, but also, if you're making your own recipes, go to elr or atf and mix one of the highest rated recipes you can find, and see if that tastes better. Don't stop trying to develop your own recipes, but find a really good recipe you can vape all the time until you get a good recipe of your own.
That's all well and good, but how exactly do you mix? Prefab 50/50 Nic base + one-shot flavoring? Separate ingredients, i.e.: Nic/VG/PG/+ one-shot flavoring?
There's too many steps where things can go south, so you need to start by checking out each ingredient.
If you use 50/50 base, make up a batch of 0 Nic. If you do separate VG/PG, make up a 0 Nic batch of each one. Does one taste bad? Bad base. Do they all taste bad? Bad one-shot.
Now, add Nic. Does it get worse? How's it taste? Peppery? "Hot", maybe? Bad Nic.
Knowing what you mix helps, but without details of how you mix, there's not much specific advice that can be offered.
