I've been attempting to clone Adirondack Cayuga off and on since I started DIY almost 2 years ago. During the Adirondack Christmas sale I bought up a bunch for old times sake and a couple months ago I revisited my cloning efforts. I'm going to close the vault on this one and release it as-is (internal version 5.68.6.1 lol).
#Adirondack Cayuga Clone
- 4% TFA Pineapple
- 4% TFA Kiwi (Double)
- 3% TFA Papaya
- 3% INW Mango
- 1% FA Kiwi
- 1% TFA Dragonfruit
- 1% FA Fuji Apple
TFA Pineapple is clearly what brings that acidic bite of Cayuga to the table, the primary top note in this clone. I originally made a variation of this clone with INW Pineapple (and still love it) but it is quite different. 4% is definitely the sweet spot for TFA Pineapple, any more and it dominates in a bad way, any less and it fades away after a few pulls. I use INW Pineapple in other juices and I don't see TFA replacing it but it belongs here.
TFA Papaya and INW Mango are the bulk of the body, they fill your mouth and bring a ton of sweetness to the juice. Call me crazy but I really like Papaya and use it in a lot of juices. I barely even register it as a flavor any more, it is pure, sweet, full bodied middle note. The same goes for INW Mango for my taste buds. I use it so frequently it just fills out the middle so well and is quite versatile at any percentages below 5%.
Kiwi Double has its own "bite" characteristics and after settling on the Papaya and Mango I did a lot of experimenting with it while trying to boost the tartness of Pineapple. Any more than 4% and it gets bitter real quick and any less and the whole mix loses luster. If you smell Kiwi Double and Cayuga back to back you will know it is clearly in the real thing. FA Kiwi tempers the harsh bite and rounds out the kiwi flavor overall. In an effort to keep the flavor count down I tried many, many times without it and it just didn't work. It is quite the magic bullet in this clone and was a major "AHA!" moment when I added it. I don't think FA Kiwi stands very well on its own but it pairs extremely well with Kiwi Double in this ratio.
TFA Dragonfruit is just such an amazing emulsifier, it's like EM in that it imparts a nice sweetness and works well in low amounts in just about any fruit juice to smooth things over. In this mix you can't quite put your finger on it but the mix falls flat without it.
FA Fuji Apple is just a trademark of mine, I put it in almost everything. It is so tart yet refreshing, here it fills out the top notes in addition to the Pineapple and Kiwi Double.
The biggest challenge of this clone was getting the hallmark tartness of Cayuga to stick around. TFA Pineapple is one of the more pronounced flavors in this juice and getting it to stay put was difficult. I think the blend of FA Kiwi and Fuji Apple helped out here.
Enjoy!
Looks good I will give it a go! That mango is scary though, I'm not sure how you enjoy that one over the other wonderful mangoes out there
Edit: INW mango is just super floral and weird above 0.5% for my taste. I think TFA phillipine 3% may be the answer but I will try your version first
In all likelihood INW was not used in the original Cayuga as I'm not sure they were even on the market at that time. Interested to see how your experiment plays out, I was vaping the real thing back to back and they are very close.
