Setup: Recoil w/ flavor barrel, Dual 15 wrap 26g 3mm Nifethal 70 coils @.15 ohms. 60w power, 450F temp limit. Full Cotton Wicks.
Testing: RF SC Brown Sugar @ 2% and 4%, 60/40 VG/PG, Steeped 18 days.
Flavor Description: Right off the bat, some people are using this stuff, and I'll cover that in the second opinions.
I'm pretty sure this isn't safe to vape. It's another one of the sticky concentrates, a lot like RF SC Cherry Cola Type but not quite as dark. It's not a scientific test by any means, but I set up some coffee filters and put a drop of this and FA Cocoa on there to see if they asorb. The FA Cocoa absorbed, stained the hell out of the filter, but it absorbed within 30 seconds. It's been five minutes and I'm still looking at a puddle of gelatinous something sitting on top of the filter from the RF Brown Sugar. I'm getting burnt notes off of this on the first drag at 2 and 4%. Even at .25%, I'm getting like 2 drags max before it tastes markedly burnt. Dry burning the coil afterwards, there is something heavily gunking them up.
With all that said, it definitely tastes like brown sugar before it tastes like burning. It's pretty intensely dry though, even at .25%. Like a bitter chemical back end and then you run straight into something burning.
Off-flavors: Really dry, chemical bitterness, and then burning whatever the hell.
Throat Hit: Harsh right off the rip, worse when it's burning.
Uses & Pairings: Coffee creamer? Baking?
Notes: I can't find a point at which this doesn't burn. Using .25% at 300F, I'm still getting some burning. I've rewicked 8 times total, and i don't feel like there is an intersection of where this works but doesn't burn in normal concentrations at normal vaping temperatures.
Second Opinions:
So like I said, some people are using this.
H/T to /u/runcibles/ for the suggestion.
I got the MSDS for this flavor in hopes it would reveal what is going on. It doesn't seem to explain much but I'll link it anyways.
I asked directly why Brown Sugar and Cherry Cola Type seem to have these characteristics this is all I got back.
> Those particular flavors are more viscous than most. > It's nothing to worry about. Just make sure to shake very well before using.
So again not helpful but not surprising as they probably consider that proprietary information. Starting to look like it's some of the actual aromas they're using that is causing this to gunk so bad.
Yeah, I'm not buying the nothing to worry about. Even if it's fine (as fine as vaping actually is) from a health perspective it just means they have almost 0 utility in this application. They still vape terribly. Thanks for reaching out, even if was just the standard brush-off in response.
I'm glad to see one of my favorite reviewers agree with me :) Truth is I thought to myself "it can't be that bad" and I retested it a month later and simply threw it away. I also agree with you on most of the SC line being not-that-good, I've bought 10 of them and the only one I did not throw was peanut brittle. Not that it was so amazing, it's the only one I found without weird off notes and I use it as an accent in my peanut/pb recipes
I have about 20 real flavors that I'll never use. Ridiculous
Real flavors is about the exact opposite of Flavorah to me. I'm not ashamed to say I have added some FLV flavors to my cart minutes after testing them. I get this insane fear that they will run out two days later or something. I will probably end up with a box of expired double flavorings 😂😂😂
Oooo, didn't even think about it but the RF flavorings I got could probably be used for my coffee creamer mixes.
Now I've just got to stop drinking black coffee. I'm racking up a lot of flavorings I have to figure how to actually use outside of vaping before I toss them in frustration.
Well...shit. I just got a bottle of this as a replacement for TFA's version, because I was hoping that it wouldn't have the problems that TFA's does(I'm not a huge fan of vaping sugar)
Back to the drawing board...
Where you getting that from? Here is the component list for it. There is no sugar listed.
Sorry for the off-top comment but did you happen to pick up RFSC Grape or RFSC Aged Bourbon Cream?
No sir, I did not. That's your own little nightmare to deal with.
I've got bigger nightmares than those to deal with. I was just thinking, if you had pending reviews, I could get out of writing them. Kinda feeling pressed for time at the moment. But that's ok, I'll crank them out. Time to start thinking about how to stretch "grape cotton candy" into 300 words.
I wonder if you got a bad batch? I have tested this at 1.5% standalone and found it to be a pretty realistic brown sugar. I've also tried it mixed with various things at 0.25%. I don't really get the burnt note, I get that more with SC Coffee which this is quite similar to. I am a little concerned after your review though. One of the things I like about RF is that they list exactly how much of the potential harmful chemicals are in their flavourings, in this case a tiny amount of acetoin
I don't know about the bad batch thing. Not saying that anyone that enjoys this is somehow wrong, but I feel like the actual way the concentrate is built is weird. I have a bottle of RF SC Spongecake and and RF SC Brown Sugar in front of me, and even though the color is identical if you flip the bottles the Brown Sugar is sticking to the bottom of the bottle while the spongecake just comes off completely clean.
