I think I'm cursed...
submitted over 8 years ago by RamboUnchained

I've been vaping for 2 years and DIY for 5 months and I've yet to find an all day vape...Between shared recipes and my own creations, I have some awesome stuff. Just not anything that I can vape for days or weeks on end. I'm not asking anyone to share their recipes, I just want to know how you guys found an all day vape. Like...I'm seriously stumped. I'm pretty much done with whatever I'm vaping after a tank or two. IDK if it's because I have so much shit mixed, so subconsciously, my brain won't allow me to just vape one thing or if it's because I don't like the juices I'm vaping as much as I think I do.

Variety is my ADV. I usually switch flavors several times a day. It's funny because when I was smoking I craved one specific type. Now it's constant variety that keeps me engaged in vaping and mixing. Not only am I switching flavors, I rarely mix the same thing in exactly the same way. Even if it's just 0.25% more or less of one of the ingredients than it was last time, there's always some tweak to try out. So if you're cursed, we're cursed together.

That's funny you have no ADV, because after I initially tried strap-on and was unsure of it, I came back to it a few days later and decided to add my favorite flavor concentrate of all time: CAP Sweet Mango at 1.5%. I know there's already manly strap-on but I didn't have that mango flavor. I also add 0.5% TFA Marshmallow.

I haven't stopped vaping this for weeks. I haven't even made any other juice. The only juices I've vaped were some mitten vapors stuff I won in a giveaway and that's usually only for like five minutes until I NEED more mango strap-on. It's definitely my "Marlboro Blend No. 27" this summer.

I have, on rare occasions, an ADV. I usually have three or four juices that I'm vaping at a time, switching between them two to five times a day, replacing one when it runs out with something else. But every so often, I'll get stuck on one and not want to switch. Sometimes it's because it's something I'm working on and the way to improve it isn't clear even after a few mLs. Usually it's because it's someone else's recipe and it's terrific, and /u/apexified's Manly Strap-On was one of those. I could easily see this "Sweet Manly Strap-On" being another.

But my definition of ADV and yours is very different. I'm just talking about not stopping until a 10 to 60ml bottle is gone and then never making it exactly the same way again. I couldn't do one thing for weeks. Just could not do it. Maybe OP and I are afflicted with some kind of olfactory ADHD.

That is funny, I did the exact same thing (minus the marshmallow) and it is a tasty treat. I'll have to throw some marshmallow in on my next mix of this.

Yep, I'm in this camp. I carry 2-3 tanks plus what's on the mod. I'm constantly swapping out flavors. I've never had something I could hit all day long. Even when I first started vaping.

by partzman2over 8 years ago

I always carry a bottle of 3mg unflavored juice to clear out the previous flavors when I'm out and about. As I usually carry 3 or 4 flavors, unflavored juice cleans it right out between flavors.

i think a lot of us switch flavors just because we can. we're not locked in to one particular liquid just because there was a sale that let us get the price/ml down below $0.20

When I smoked, L&M menthols were my jam. I got that good throat hit like I did when I smoked Newports, but almost none of the cough Newports gave me. I don't do as much tweaking as you do, though. But that has me thinking...maybe I should go back up on my nic level. Maybe from a 3 to a 4.5 or even back to 6. Hmmmm.

I am so happy to hear of someone else that switches flavors multiple times a day - I go at minimum three different flavor profiles a day.

From what I can gather many people who DIY love variety, but more like 'what will I mix and vape for the next few days' not 'which of my 8 recipes to drip next', if that makes sense.

11 points

by leapinglabratsover 8 years ago

I get sick of creams in the long run. Nuts, chocolates, spices, coffee etc get old pretty quickly too. On top of that, they cause pain in my throat and lungs if I vape too much of them, and they are nightmare coil gunkers from hell. For me, that's unsustainable.

I go with pure fruits and berries, any combination of them, without additives. Maybe that's just my thing, but it feels much cleaner and I don't grow tired of it. And little to no steep required. I'm usually a proponent of using concentrates sparingly, but I can't stress it enough when going this route. You want a smooth and delicious flavor that will last you the whole day, not a flavor punch resulting in muted senses or a floral perfume that feels more like eating soap than taking a sip of juice.

I'll still mix up anything on the side. I love some spicy chocolate with my coffee, minty ice cream, salty licorice, you name it, but I couldn't go a whole day with any of them. I've stuck with my raspberry blackcurrant vape for months now with small variations to keep it interesting, if you want to give it a shot: 3% TFA Raspberry Sweet, 0.5% INW Raspberry, 1.3% MB Blackcurrant, 0.7% INW Blackcurrant and 0.7% TFA Nectarine. The exact ingredients aren't vital, it's just an example.

I love that recipe. It's out there, but not "too" out there. I like so many different things that I find it really hard to not add "a little of this and a little of that" in almost everything I mix. So a simple fruit mix can easily turn into a cake or a tart with a bunch of supporting flavors by the time I'm done with it. I MAY have 6 recipes with less than 5 ingredients. I rarely use EM or any sort of sweeteners.

Try out this Honey Pearry clone. It's been my ADV for two plus years now.

6% TFA Pear 5% TFA Strawberry 3.5% TFA Honeydew 0.5% (or less) TFA Apricot (rounds out the flavor nicely, but even a little too much is overpowering)

I never get sick of it. It's flavorful enough to keep me interested but light enough to be background.

I think I know your situation :)

Been searching for the ADV for about 6 mounths. The result is the tuned for my taste clone of Jimmy the Juiceman: Strawberry TPA - 7% Apricot TPA - 3% Mango TPA - 1%

Mixing some new recipes almost every day - and there's nothing better for me...

As for my wife: Mojito TPA - 8% Strawberry TPA - 4%

That JTJM clone looks tasty. Shurb v4 (and Grackjuice) brought me into the world of DIY. Mainly Shurb v4, because I was sick of paying $25/30mL at my local B&M. All I had to do was tone down the Raspberry it is was basically 1:1. I made a 500mL batch of it 6mo ago and I still have 300mL of it.

15 % Sweet Tangerine. Nothing else. I found it on an old vaping thread from 2013. I was getting pissed off with all these apparently awesome recipes that require 15 different flavours including 3 different variations of Strawberry, 2 types of cheesecake, a hint of lemon meringue, a drop of cotton candy, 2 types of cream and some artificial sweetener, then steep for 7.5 weeks. A no bullshit shake n vape straight tangerine was exactly what I was looking for and it really works for me.

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

I'm going to have to revisit my single-flavor notes. I may be looking at this from the wrong angle. My ADV might just be a single flavor.

3 points

by BuryMeInSmokeover 8 years ago

I've been vaping for around 3.5 years, been DIYing for about 2.5 years. I've found maybe one recipe that I can vape for more than two days in a row but I've only done it a few times. There's quite a few recipes I can do for two days in a row if my laziness outdoes my need for a different flavour but yeah, most of the time, after 24 hours with a flavour I'm ready for a switch up.

DIYing makes it worse IMO. A lot of options all at your fingertips.

3 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

Yeah, DIYing definitely makes it worse. I went from buying 1500 to 2000mL of juice at a time to owning nearly 200 concentrates and having roughly 3000mL of 77 difference juices...I have an embarrassing amount of 10mL bottles in a basket next to my door. I just grab a couple of them on my way out.

by Laserbabzover 8 years ago

I've been in that boat. For a long time. Still sorta are, i guess.. Here's a few go-to's i can vape ALOT of before i have to find another juice on the shelf.

FA Forest Mix 4% + CAP Harvest Berry 1% (i usually add 2-4% Koolada to this mix, sometimes a little bit of Anise, dont add that much koolada unless you really like a fresh kick)

FA Fuji 3% (I often add 1-1.5% koolada to this)

CAP Juicy Lemon 1.5% + CAP Juicy Peach 3% + CAP Yellow Peach 2% - i can vape this ALOT, and i HATE lemon. It tastes, to me, like a sweet and sour hard candy.

I hope this helps just a little :)

Sorry if formatting sucks, i still dont understand how to format ind here :D

2 points

by MedicatedDeveloperover 8 years agoMixologist

To add a line break you need to have a totally blank line between them.

Line One
<blank line>
Line Two

I hope that helps!

PS: TPA Quince at 0.25-0.5% and TPA Passion Fruit (0.5-1%) are fantastic apple (esp FA Fuji) enhancers IME.

by Laserbabzover 8 years ago

Thank you - i will try and look into those !

Your formatting is just fine. I'm gonna try all three of these. They look like they can be vaped right away, no?

2 points

by Laserbabzover 8 years ago

Yeah straight SnV, the lemon one mellows out a little bit over the next day or two, but that's about it.

3 points

by Prometheus_unwoundover 8 years ago

I find that juices that end up being my adv are generally on the mellow side. I vape 5-10 flavors a day too, but only because I'm taking notes and refining recipes. For me, having an adv is kind of critical for satisfying my nicotine addiction.

3 points

by thegoldenstatevaporover 8 years ago

I don't know why someone would want an ADV! Variety is the beauty of vaping and switching flavors for different moods is awesome. I guess if you are wanting to DIY then being able to mix large amounts of a single flavor would be advantageous but still, I could never just stick with one flavor.

1 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

Yeah, I'd still have other flavors. It's more of a convenience thing for me. I love being able to swap flavors at will. But at the same time, it'd be nice to have a real go-to juice.

3 points

by psykiover 8 years agoMixologist

I fail to see the problem here. I strongly disagree that the reason I don't have an ADV is because I like the juice less. Once you open Pandora's box of DIY you have a virtually infinite supply of juices and variations you can choose from. I typically have anywhere from 5-10 juices I'm "actively" working on and whenever I leave the house I usually take 3 30ml bottles with me. Dripper at home, tank on the go. I'll rarely use the same flavor back to back but occasionally I will in the dripper. When I'm working on juice most of the variations will be minor but every now and then I'll start from scratch with a whole new profile.

Ultimately I still have my "favorite" juices I vape more often and will almost always take a variation of those with me. I guess you could call those my ADV, just not literally.

3 points

by RinVapesover 8 years ago

Some people are not the ADV kind of person.. Maybe that's how you are? It'd be like eating the same food over and over again.

2 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

I guesso. I just figured since I only smoked one brand of cigs, I'd be able to vape one kind of juice. I guess it's a little more nuanced than that, though.

1 points

by RinVapesover 8 years ago

I see where you're coming from and it makes sense... However, I don't know that you may have stuck with the same cig if they were flavored like food/etc. Maybe there's a difference in the type of flavor it is? I don't know. Taste buds are weird.

1 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

Yes they are! There's beauty in variety though.

2 points

by grrrkgrrrlover 8 years ago

Imho a good way for an absolute noob is cloned recipes that you used to buy. You used to love something, right? Find a clone for it. You know for sure you love the overall flavour profile (depending on how sensitive you are it might be close to identical), and you will also learn a fair bit about how ingredients work in the process. So when you end up looking at other people's recipes (not clones) you can estimate if you will like them or not, or what you'd like to tweak to make it better for you.

2 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

That's the thing. I've never had a true adv and I already have clones for the juices I used to buy. I have about 15-20 juices that I make sure I always have mixed, but I can't vape either of them for more than a day. Some days, I'll fill my tank with juice X and take a bottle of juice Y in case I need to refill while I'm out. My wife says it's out of boredom. She's been vaping a placid clone for about a week straight. Before that, she vaped a banana pudding mix for about a month.

4 points

by grrrkgrrrlover 8 years ago

Not everyone ends up with an ADV. so long as you have juices you enjoy overall and are happy to vape them instead of smoking cigarettes you've hit the target. That's the target. I don't have an ADV either but I have a juice I will choose for work in the morning and then in the evening I will choose something else. I have about 5-7 juices overall. It's fine.

2 points

by sirfletchalotover 8 years agoI <3 ID10-T

This. I tend to vape vanilla in a MTL setup by day, then turn to sub ohm custards in the evenings once home. But that's not set in stone. I have 3 or 4 go to MTL juices and at least 10 DTL flavours in rotation

1 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

How'd you manage to narrow it down to 5-7 juices?

2 points

by JayJuiceVapesover 8 years ago

You're probably just not an ADV kind of guy. I'm the same way I change flavors just about every time I fill my tank and I carry around 4 or 5 bottles with me everywhere I go.

I think we're rare anomalies. Not having an ADV is cumbersome lol.

2 points

Have you considered dripping instead of tanks? I never fell in love with any flavors when I used tanks. For me, the deck and coil I'm using have always had a huge impact on the whole experience, especially in the context of craving consistency.

I dunno, when I first switched to vaping I smoked menthols, so I picked a menthol eliquid. Like not a menthol cigarette, I can't stand the sweet artificial tobacco flavor, but straight menthol, PG, and VG. Used that for about 3 years until I started mixing my own juice. Nowadays I'll switch up my flavors after 90mL of the same or so, but I still have a bottle of menthol for when I need to make juice and don't want to go full mad scientist.

The only flavor I've had consistently as an ADV is mustache milk. It's not perfect (it's got a tiny tiny bit of sweetener, not a lot, in it... I think, and I'd prefer if it had none) but it's pretty damn close to the perfect cereal flavor. I've bought and mixed other flavors I considered vapable (I have probably around 50 to 60 various DIY flavors)... but nothing I could really get behind. Right now I've been using a cync (cigalike vape) because I was getting sick of my full rig, and enjoying it. I'm really liking the five pawns black flag risen in the cync a ton, I might almost consider it an ADV... but I'm not confidant I would like it in a regular rig. I think the nutty coffee flavor might be overbearing in a real vape rig... but in the cync it's fantastic. The mango and the lava naked 100 juice's were acceptable for me, but not quite there either. I've made some pretty good mangos myself that were nearly, but not quite, as good as the naked 100 one. Still the naked 100 flavors for me are buy a bottle, enjoy it, and move on for now... mustache milk is literally the only flavor I can buy over and over and never get sick of.

Do you like mango juices at all? If so, try /u/ID10-T Strap-on recipe, and then add 1.5% CAP Sweet Mango. I also add 0.5% TFA Marshmallow to fluff it up a bit, but you don't have to.

I've tried every variation of strapon. They're all tasty, but something about it is offputting after vaping it for awhile. More than likely the strawberry getting lost. That's not exclusive to strap-on and its variations though.

I'm in the same boat, except I kind of have no issue with it. I always have ~20 different 30ml bottles of juice ready at all times and I'll vape a few drips of about 10 of them everyday. I don't get as much flavor when I drip the same juice over and over. I think it's great though, it keeps me constantly searching for new recipes

2 points

by cldzvpover 8 years ago

Never really had an ADV, always went with rotating flavors. The default became a nearly flavorless juice, just a couple drops of a single flavor will provide a tone, a mouthfeel, without tasting much, a peaceful to go setup. There's no need to feel like you must be chewing on something all day long, every day.

1 points

by sensfan5555over 8 years ago

I find if my recipes have too high of a flavour percentage, I get tired of it quick. Lots of others factors as well, but normally using stronger flavours and keeping it fruity, I can vape it much longer, and delays vaper's tongue as well.

1 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

I brush 3-4x a day. I don't think I've ever had true vapor's tongue. More or less just get tired of the juice I'm vaping. Some of my juices have as little as 6% total flavoring and I get tired of those, too lol.

I'm the same as you, I've never vaped anything for more than a day or two. My question is, why do you care?

You have a lot of options to you for flavors, that's not a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with not finding an ADV.

1 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

Convenience. I like the thought of being able to just make a big batch of something and vaping only that. It seems to be a pipe dream at this point.

1 points

by Fazy89over 8 years ago

Just make a big batch of several things? I dunno, half of my enjoyment comes from the range of available flavors, having a pipe dream of just vaping one flavor, seems so... unambitious?

1 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

I have quite a few large batches and these are the bottles that I keep in a basket. I just randomly grab some on my way out each evening. I guess the beauty of it all is that I always grab something I know I'm going to like.

1 points

by MedicatedDeveloperover 8 years agoMixologist

Have you tried dripping versus a tank? I go way overboard with a tank as you can just sit and drain it by chain vaping giving me vaper's tongue. The deliberateness of dripping combined with improved flavor lets me use just a couple drippers loaded with opposing flavors throughout the day. Usually something fruity, something earthy/green/spicy, and then a dripper with a flavor I'm developing at the moment.

1 points

by RamboUnchainedover 8 years ago

I drip at home. I spend a lot of time away from home, though. I bought one of those EZ Drippers for my commutes but got tired of the flavor I put into that. Bought some more of the fill bottles and realized I was right back at square one. A bunch of bottles everywhere.

I'm a lot like you. I like variety. However there are a few recipes that I'll make a 120ml of and vape the absolute shit out of. These are usually simple recipes with only 4-5 ingredients and a very straightforward profile. One of those is [Goldfish18's Cannoli] ( https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/6222#cannoli_contest_entry_by_goldfish18). Another is [Philosophucker's Grack Juice] ( https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/9396#grack_juice_by_philosaphucker). And also [Ckemist and HocusKrokus' (Kopel) Lake Placid] ( http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/776443/Kopel%20%26amp;%20Ckemist%20Remix:%20Lake%20 Placid).

My adv before getting into diy with a friend was sinking ship vapors abyss. It's a vanilla custard, but it has like 18 spices in it... And constantly changes flavors... Sometimes you'd get a hint of cinnamon, sometimes hint of coconut, sometimes a hint of chocolate... It was and is a really amazing product. I just got tired of paying 20 bucks for a 30ml bottle. It is still my absolute favorite juice of all time tho... Nothing has come close, and we have not yet come close to cloning it.
