Thank you to everyone who had something to offer last week's FOTW, Dulce de Leche.
As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
This week's flavor is: GRAPE.

There are so many grape flavors out there! Quick run down on the ones I've tried:
TFA Grape Juice. Weak. Tastes like a cross between watered-down store brand grape juice from concentrate and grape kool-aid. I think the best use I've ever seen of this flavor wasn't even as a grape, it was used to make CAP Sweet Strawberry into strawberry jam in this old Flavor of the Week post
TFA Grape Candy. Tastes kinda like a grape lollipop with some of the plastic wrapper still stuck to it, weird plasticky note, but has been used to give other ingredients a jolly rancher vibe.
INW Grapes. The grandaddy of the grapes, the one that caused many of us, myself included, to become Grackheads. Like shoving a handful of mixed white and red grapes into your face. But not American table grapes, more like the thick-skinned grapes with seeds in them. Tannic, earthy, and a bit floral.
FW Grape Soda. So much sucralose, it's insane. Major coil gunker and tastes like diet grape soda. Probably pretty yummy if you're into that sort of thing but it actually gives me a headache.
FLV Grape. Delicious and 90% of the way to a perfect grape kool-aid or grape popsicle.
SC Grape. Mouthwatering grape candy; "the LA Watermelon of grapes."
Edit: TFA Champagne and FA Brandy should both get mentioned here too for musty white grape notes. But then if we're going to do that, it starts getting into how some lychee flavors taste kinda like weird grape candies and from there, who knows what tangents.
I've mixed up samples of FA White Grape and RF(SC) Grape to try this week.
Note that TFA Grape Candy is INCREDIBILY strong.
Like for a tfa flavor........daaaaaaaamn. Anything above a 3% is straight up flowers.
Plastic flowers, IMO. Even worse than regular flowers. I suppose one could argue that plastic doesn't have a flavor but I don't know how else to describe it. It's plasticky.
I have all of those but only recently got FLV Grape. INW Grapes was my favorite for a long time but now I use FLV exclusively!
It kind of depends on what you're looking for in a grape. INW Grapes is very natural-type grape. The only really natural grape I've tried, so that makes it special to me. Also, Grack Juice.
But if I could only have one grape forever it would probably be FLV's. It's so tasty. I enjoy SC Grape quite a bit, too, but I think FLV's might be more versatile.
FE Grape- Welche's -type grape juice... the purple stuff in the big jugs you find at the store. Decent... not great.
OoO Grape Soda- excellent fake grape flavor. reminds me of grape pixie sticks. Doesn't have a fizz sensation but has something extra... similar to when you eat a pixie stick.
OoO Crushin' Grape Soda- Dimetapp aka... disgusting medicine. hate it.
FA Concord Grape- okay at low percentages in candy mixtures but can get medicinal really quickly. I use it at 1/2%
I couldnt stand FA concord, eveb at low percentages it just tasted like a floral perfumey mess. I'll have to try ooo grape soda, inw has been the only grape I've liked so far.
OoO grape soda definitely has that chalky grape taste going on. Like a grape version of these.
Yes. Something like that... but I like it... lol
If you like that, my ADV since I started has been using TPA - Energy drink. It tastes exactly like those candies (fun dip/rockets/pixie stix). It doesn't taste grape, more neutral, maybe a little raspberry, but you can easily add any fruit combo.
Interesting to hear there's another flavour so similar. I normally stay away from oOo, but I'm going to order this flavour
Great quick notes, thank you. I might have to check out that OoO Grape Soda. Have you mixed it successfully with anything yet?
Well... I mixed the grape soda with Watermelon Fizz Candy because I've heard grape and watermelon are good... It was not. I think it was the "soda" and candy... they were too much. Tasted almost like straight EM. Was weird. So... no. Not really sure what to mix with the Grape soda? Maybe a regular watermelon (not the OoO one would work)
If you were a big fan of Cheyenne little cigars, then you might just like this:
INW DNB- 1.5%
INW TA Garuda- 1%
INW Tobacco Symphony- 2.5%
INW Tuscan Garden- .5%
It's a grape Cheyenne because INW lied their face off when they said Tuscan Garden is a cigarette style flavor. It's a grape style flavor. Not for me, personally. This recipe was decent enough, but I never made more than a 10 ml test. I don't suppose I will.
I've never had one of those. How far is Cheyenne from Swisher?
Cheyenne is a bit mustier imo
Really, that recipe might be closer to a SS than a Cheyenne. I've only had Cheyennes because they are like $2 a pack and I was poor. It was just the closest thing I've had that I could use to describe it.
Seeing as I have INW Grape in the cupboard, I started a new recipe - definitely a work in progress - https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/share/b79b6b19-a112-4df0-b3dc-0e518a905454
Looks sensible-are you aiming for a grape slush??
Yeah something similar with what I've got ... it definitely needs some more Koolada which I'll do as v2 and see how it goes, and I'll give it a longer steep as the Grape might need a bit longer to come to the fore, although I am tempted to bump the Grape up by 0.5% as well
Looks like the start of a cool, grapey winner! The only thing I would have done differently with those ingredients is maybe started the raspberry at 0.25% in version 1 and worked up in a subsequent batches if it seemed to need more, since that stuff is so potent, but I don't have any reason to think, without having tasted it, that 0.5% raspberry isn't where I'd wind up eventually.
6% - FA Cola
2% - Polar Blast (or Koolada)
2% - INW Grape
I had a go at cloning VapeShlurps - Cold Filtered.
I got to this point and was pretty happy with it. The is pretty clear, the polar blast adds a cool hit to it and the grape just adds another note of flavor at the back.
This is my recipe for a Grape Forzen Yogurt. Let me know what you think about it
https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/48138
2% (CAP) Creamy Yogurt
4% (TPA) Grape Juice
1% (TPA) Kiwi (double)
1.5% (FA) Meringue
2% (TPA) Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
This recipe is very straightforward and take ideas from a lot of already proven bases and formulas, but that once put together creates a delicious creamy frozen yogurt.
(English is not my mother tongue; please excuse any errors on my part)
¡Ignacio! ¡Gracias! No he intentado usar el kiwi para hacer el jugo de la uva más audaz y más natural. Tengo todos estos ingredientes y se mezclan esto esta mañana.
Ignacio! Thank you! I have not tried using Kiwi to make Grape Juice bolder and more natural. I have all these ingredients and will mix this up this morning.
GRAPE DRANK
10% TFA Grape Juice
5% TFA Champagne
Simple, yet delicious flavor. Needs a 1-2 week steep. You will know it's ready when the color has a hint of purple.
What's wrong with it before the steep?
FWIW, I don't think 10% is a crazy amount if you're trying to use TFA Grape Juice as the main flavor in a simple recipe like this. Maybe I have a bad bottle or something but it seems to be a very weak flavor to me.
FA Concord Grape @3% is an earthy grape flavor with virtually no sweetness as a S&V. More on this and development with steeping later.
Will the "more on this" possibly be shared live on youtube on Noted Monday night with me and /u/cheebasteeba and /u/mlnikon ?
Very possibly, my good sir.
The only grape flavor I have experience with as a single Flavor is liquid nicotine wholesaler grape. It's pretty much like a super sweet grape kool-aid or a grape soda Flavor.
Reading your flavor review on that one, I get that it's a candy-sweet grape, but I couldn't tell from the description, is it a sucralose sweetness or something else?
Simple chilled Cran/Grape: 10% FLV Grape, 10% TFA Cranberry, menthol to your liking. 1-2 day steep.
What kind of set up are you putting that into?
FA Grape Concord- musty, floral overpowers a mix as low as 0.5%. A 10% dilution may be in order, it might be useful in minute amounts.
FA White Grape - super floral, I did not like it. but again, maybe a tiny amount would help a mix.
INW Grapes - my go to grape so far. It's supposed to be a mix of white and purple grapes, but I get purple. A bit like grape bubblegum to me. Love it. Mixes nicely with apple.
GRAPPLE
INW Grapes - 5%
FA Fuji - 0.5%
FW Natural Green Apple - 0.5%
FA Pear - 0.5%
TFA Whipped Cream - 0.25%
I've heard people saying good things about the Super Concentrate Grape, but have not tried yet.
Purilum White Grape — quite authentic white grapes flavor with some sour notes. At 2% I didn't get any aggressive florals in it, even though it may seem slightly weak. Would totally recommend it to play with. Pairs nicely with FA Blackcurrant.
I'll give it a whack.
Gremmonade, A Twisted Grape Lemonade
-
TFA Grape Juice - 4%
-
RF Blueberry Lemonade Slushie (SC) - 2.75%
-
FA Forest Fruit - 2%
-
FA Lemon Sicily - 1%
-
Koolada (10% in PG) - 0.5%
Definitely still a work in progress, but it's not too shabby snv.
That looks really good. Most of the grape flavors I've tried seem to be crying out for some citrus. Looks like you gave TFA Grape Juice what it wants, and then some.
Thanks! It's not too bad for a first attempt. The grape is kind of masking the lemonade at this point, which is surprising to say given how weak TFA Grape Juice is.
I think next attempt I'll bump up the RF SC Blueberry Lemonade Slushie to 2.5%-3% and maybe back the grape juice to 4%. I just didn't want to go overboard with the super concentrate.
I'll whip up a couple variations and report back.
I love grape and have been torturing myself using TPA Grape Juice. It can be morphed into something grape drank or candy-like but you spend a lot of time trying to hide its' deficiencies. I am going this moment to add Flavorah in my cart. It sounds like exactly what I need in my life.
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Seems like there is an abundance of grape flavors available but surprisingly few grape recipes.
Yes, I think it is a flavor like cherry that folks run weary from. I think grape pairs up nice with quite a lot of things in the beverage/candy realm....I typically make recipes like:
TPA Grape Juice 5% TPA Dragon Fruit 1% FA Kiwi 2% INW Cactus .4% FA Arctic Winter .4%
Sort of a candy/beverage type....or a simple candy...
TPA Grape Juice 5% LA Watermelon 3% TPA Peach Juicy 1.5%
Or a Grape Pixy sticks type:
TPA Grape Juice 5% TPA Sweet and Tart 2% FW Cotton Candy 5%
Not the most stable mix but pretty tasty on a shake and vape. Again, all these recipes are suffering to some degree with the TPA Grape Juice. Look forward to developing new grape things with FLV and INW. I am relatively new to reddit and I hear these comments about "knife fights" and the like and mostly I see a small core group and perhaps a ton of lurkers/crickets..hahahha...
Kind of a random contribution but grape flavor juices are huge in Malaysia, just one small vape store I use has like 10 grape flavors alone and this is no where even close to all of them. http://imgur.com/a/WrP6b
Every time I get on facebook I see a few new grape juices in the VAPE THAILAND group.
Excited about amaretto week...will it include marzipan and a mention of almond?
It'll include whatever people want it to include. But yeah, maybe I'll try to finish in time for that week a Disaronno recipe I've worked on in the past that got back-burnered, which was using both marzipan and almond and was not using any of the amaretto concentrates.
My grape recipe has been in the works for a few years. It's called "Grape Sour Apple's" on ELR It's a Sour Grape candy like the little ones you get from a Chinese/thai restaurant. Let me know what you think. Grape Sour Apple's
